Festo Launches Two New Product Lines at Assembly 2019

https://www.prweb.com/

The solutions of the Simplified Motion Series from Festo at a glance.

Festo showcases at Assembly 2019, October 22-24, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, Ill., the company’s two newest product lines – the Simplified Motion Series and CPX-AP-I remote I/O. Festo also displays such automation solutions as its kit-based servo press, lines of electric drives and actuators, intelligent pneumatics, and adaptive gripper. (Festo Booth #721)

Simplified Motion Series

The Simplified Motion Series of electric drives combines the simplicity of pneumatics with the benefits of electric automation. These new electric drives equipped with Digital I/O and IO-Link® enable a range of operational and productivity benefits and deliver intelligent IIoT communication.

The actuators in this series are built for simple motion between two mechanical end positions. The drives offer optimized motion characteristics, including gentle cushioning, while advancing and retracting into the end positions and pressing and clamping functionality. Units in the initial release include toothed belt axis, spindle and toothed belt axis, mini slide, electric cylinder, and rotary drive.

CPX-AP-I remote I/O

The new Festo remote I/O system CPX-AP-I, which improves the performance of mixed valve terminals and I/O systems, is compatible with most communication protocols, including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and EtherCAT. These rugged, compact, and lightweight modules can be mounted directly on machines in IP65/IP67 rated environments. CPX-AP-I recently received a 2019 Reddot award for product design.

CPX-AP-I enables valve terminals to be moved closer to pneumatic cylinders, which reduces pressurization time and increases the machine’s overall performance. Process data in and out of each bus module is as much as two kilobytes. Scan cycles for a mix of both valve terminals and I/O are below one millisecond and are expected to approach microseconds. Latency is virtually nonexistent.

CPX-AP-I remote I/O has the capacity of up to 80 I/O modules, which can be a mix of digital I/O, analog I/O, I/O-Link, and valve terminals. Furthermore, the distances between modules is up to 49 feet (15 meters). CPX-AP-I has a theoretical upper limit of 500 I/O modules and 164 feet (50 meters) distance between modules.

The YJKP servo press kit

Whether the application is to press-fit printed circuit boards into housings, seal module housings, or press-fit and test seals, the YJKP servo press kit provides a unique, cost effective solution. Without forfeiting reliability, ease of use, or performance, the do-it-yourself (DYI) kit approach shaves thousands of dollars off the cost of pre-built presses that are utilized for electronics and small-parts manufacturing.

Companies simply specify what they need and avoid expensive oversizing. The operating software is pre-installed in the controller and ready for use as soon as system integration is complete. Parameterizing the press unit is simple and intuitive. No programming skills are needed. The modular software offers a range of application-specific functions and can be displayed on a PC, tablet, or other interface device. Pre-defined press functions make configuration of joining processes easy. Key process parameters can be fully checked and tracked for quality assurance.

Fast changeover

The VTEM Motion Terminal’s intelligent pneumatic valves change functionality based on downloadable apps. The Motion Terminal is ideal for products with short lifecycles, lines where multiple stock keeping units (SKUs) are manufactured, and small lot production. Functionalities include:

  • Pressure control with a fluidic muscle DMSP
  • Pre-setting travel time with a DGC linear drive
  • Flow control with flow sensors SFAH
  • Caudal regulator with the DGC linear drive
  • Pick and place with a DGSL mini slide

Fast, trouble-free assembly with these linear axes

The ELGC/EGSC electric axes and electric slide from Festo offer innovation solutions for electronics and light assembly applications. The ELGC and EGSC can be assembled in as little as 90 seconds into one, two, or three axes for prototype or production assembly and testing systems. OEMs and end users simply screw the axes/slides together. Customer mounting plates are not utilized, and no special expertise or tools are required.

The efficient use of space that characterizes both the spindle and toothed belt axes ELGC and the mini slide EGSC is essential for assembly, testing, inspection, small parts handling, and desktop applications. ELGC/EGSC-based systems, whether they are pick-and-place solutions, linear, or three-dimensional gantries, benefit from each unit’s compact dimensions. The ELGC, with its internal, protected recirculating ball bearing guide, is particularly suitable for X-, Y-, and Z-axes applications. The mini slide EGSC is ideal for Z-axis movements or guided linear individual movement in any mounting position.

Fast engineering with this innovative end-of-arm tool

The new DHEF adaptive shape gripper is an end-of-arm tool that offers maximum gripping flexibility with minimal engineering. The adaptive shape gripper automatically grasps mixed objects, multiple shapes, fragile items, and unaligned objects. The flexible silicone cap gently forms around objects, gripping it firmly. This gripper is ideal for collaborative robotics.

Other Festo Assembly highlights include:

  • A range of electric drives and linear actuators
  • A portfolio of IO-Link solutions
  • Festo Stars of Automation for guaranteed 24-hour shipment of core products.

Vigorous Innovations Launches Pro Version of its Percussion Massager for Athletes

News Image

Representatives with Vigorous Innovations announced today that it has launched the pro version of its Percussion Massager for Athletes.

“We’re very excited about the launched of the pro version of our Percussion Massager,” said Justin Robinson, owner and spokesperson for Vigorous Innovations. “It equips users with extended battery life; it’s extremely quiet but still powerful.”

Robinson revealed that the Pro version empowers users with the rejuvenating effects of the VI PRO Percussion Massage Gun without the noise and nuisance of most electric massage percussion devices.

“The VI PRO is trusted by athletes of all ages, personal trainers, physical therapists, chiropractors, and medical staff,” Robinson said, before adding that it also comes with four easy-to-change heads that allow users to quickly and easily swap out a different percussive head for different muscles groups or to spot-treat tired joints or scar tissue.

“The forkhead is great for your back, the bullet head is amazing for pressure points, and the flathead and ball head are great for large areas,” Robinson stressed.

Robinson went on to point out that the ultra-quiet design of the Pro version is unique because most percussive massage guns are extremely loud and can damage users’ hearing.

“The VI PRO features a brushless five-speed motor that delivers 1400-3200 strokes per minute that is so quiet you can use it anywhere (including the office) without bothering other people or pets,” Robinson said. “Each VI PRO comes in a hard shell carry case for total portability. Take it with you to events, competitions, work, or different rooms in your home. A quick charge cable is included along with easy to read instructions, bonus online instruction videos, and a digital eBook.”

To top it off, the newly-released product also comes with a 100 percent money-back guarantee and full year warranty.

As to how customers rate the product, one Amazon reviewer identified as Makai gave it all five stars and described it as an awesome massager.

“I’m a triathlete, and I’ve been thinking about purchasing one of these percussion massagers for a while,” Makai said, before revealing, “I was hesitant to spend that type of money for one and was planning to purchase a cheaper one. I’m so glad I spent the money. This item is powerful, quiet easy-to-use. It arrived on time, and when I open the box it was in its hard case. This massager really gets into hard to reach places and also takes out those knots. I recommend this item if you’re looking to purchase one.”

But he isn’t the only one. A second Amazon reviewer identified as Jeremy Taylor also gave it all five stars.

“I am a sports chiropractor, and this device is a must-have for any sports therapist/clinician as well as for personal use,” Taylor said. “I use it to decrease tone in tight muscles but also to activate muscles that aren’t firing due to injury, inflammation, overuse, or inactivity. I’ve used other therapy guns, but they are so loud and distracting in a clinic. This device is very quiet, and I can use it on patients all day without needing to recharge it. And the price is amazing.”

What Are The Best Car Insurance Discounts For Students?

News Image

“Studying hard and leaving your car at home while at college will make the car insurance premiums significantly cheaper”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Compare-autoinsurance.org has released a new blog post that presents the best 2 car insurance discounts for students.

Teens are perceived as high-risk drivers. Students below 25 years old make no exception. In fact, some companies may consider students even more predisposed to to accidents and ask for more expensive premiums. Find out more about the existing options to lower the costs. Furthermore, get free car insurance quotes from http://compare-autoinsurance.org/.

  • Good grades student discount is the most valuable discount on the market. Students with a GPA above 3.0 or a B average can qualify for this discount. Companies view hard-working students as more responsible. Plus, they assume that these students spend more time in dorms/at home and study, rather than going out for parties. The value of this discount varies a lot between carriers. The typical range is around 5%- 15%. However, some companies offer a 35% discount to students under 25 years old that complete the teenSMART driver education program. Also, each carrier asks proofs of good grades, like a report card. Some companies may require the student to be on Dean’s Honorary list in order to grant the discount.
  • The resident student discount is another big discount. This discount is designed for students who study far away from home and leave the car at home. In this way, they do not driver regularly and are less exposed to accidents. Again, the value and requirements for this discount will vary. Generally, the carrier will require documentation to prove that the student is at least 100 miles away from home. The value of the discount is around 20%.

American College of Lifestyle Medicine to Honor International Public Health Leader and North Karelia Project Director Pekka Puska with Inaugural Dr. Ancel Keys Award

https://www.prweb.com/

Professor Pekka Puska

“Like Ancel Keys, Professor Puska has impacted and saved the lives of so many as a leader and contributor to public health and policy.”

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) today announced that Pekka Puska, MD, PhD, MPolSc, a Finnish professor, physician and former member of the Finnish Parliament, will be awarded the medical professional society’s first-ever Dr. Ancel Keys Award. The award will be were presented during ACLM’s sold-out 2019 Lifestyle Medicine Conference at its annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Orlando, FL.

Puska has had a significant influence on public health research and practice in Finland and globally for several decades. He was, for 25 years, the Director and Principal Investigator of the North Karelia Project for prevention of cardiovascular diseases in North Karelia and later on in all Finland. Within 35 years, an over 85 percent decline in annual heart disease mortality among the working age population and a dramatic general improvement in public health took place. Turning an area in Finland with the highest heart disease death rate into a country with one of the lowest, the project is widely seen as a model for successful population-based prevention of cardiovascular and other noncommunicable diseases (NCD).

The Dr. Ancel Keys Award was established to recognize a person who has made significant contributions to thought, evidence, practice and policy through research and the application of scientific principles, with particular emphasis on public health issues and population science. The recipient must be highly respected through research and publications as a leader in epidemiology, biostatistics and nutrition, with concern for public as well as individual health. The recipient must have shown courage in taking an evidence-based public policy stance. It will be awarded by ACLM every three years.

The Keys Award is named in honor of Ancel Keys, who started his career in physiology and moved into public health with experiments to meet wartime needs for survival rations (the “K-ration”) and to re-nourish the starving survivors of war in Europe. After the war, Keys became interested in tracing the causes and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, initiating studies that included the landmark epidemiologic “Seven Countries Study” showing the correlation of dietary saturated fat to heart disease. He named and evaluated body mass index (BMI) and with his wife also introduced the Mediterranean Diet.

Puska formerly held the position of Director General of Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare from 2009 to 2013, and currently is a professor at University of Helsinki and University of Eastern Finland. He has twice served as a member of the Finnish Parliament, working on both its Health and Social Affairs and Education committees.

From 2001 to 2003 Puska served as the Director for Noncommunicable Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva. At WHO, Puska directed the work on integrated prevention of NCD targeting the main risk factors (tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity) through health promotion, national programs, policy measures and regional networks. His department’s work culminated in adoption of the Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health by the World Health Assembly in 2004.

Internationally, Puska is Past President of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI), and he has also served as the chair of the Governing Council of the WHO International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) and as the President of the World Heart Federation. Domestically, Puska has served among other things as the Chancellor of the University of Turku, Chair of the Finnish University Council, Member of Board of Academy of Finland, Chair of the National Nutrition Committee and President of National Union of Finnish Students.

Among his several honors are Honorary Doctorate at St. Andrew’s University (Scotland) and Lisbon University, as well as Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. He has received, among other recognition, WHO’s annual Health Education Award in 1990, WHO Tobacco Free World Award in 1999, the Nordic Award for Public Health in 2005, and the Rank Prize in 2008.

Puska continues his affiliation with THL, the country’s comprehensive national institute for public health and welfare under Finland’s Ministry of Health.

“Pekka Puska is deserving of this award for the creative and courageous efforts he has made throughout his career, not just for the health of the people of Finland, but people around the world,” said ACLM President Dexter Shurney, MD, MBA, MPH, FACLM, DipABLM. “He is a giant in cardiovascular research and policy. Like Ancel Keys, Professor Puska has impacted and saved the lives of so many as a leader and contributor to public health and policy. We are honored to have Pekka Puska be our first Dr. Ancel Keys Award recipient.”

ABOUT THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF LIFESTYLE MEDICINE: ACLM is the medical professional association for those dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of Lifestyle Medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable health care system. Lifestyle Medicine involves the use of the use of a whole food, plant-predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection as a primary therapeutic modality to prevent, treat, and, oftentimes, reverse the lifestyle-related, chronic disease that’s all too prevalent. ACLM addresses the need for quality education and certification, supporting its members in their individual practices and in their collective desire to domestically and globally promote Lifestyle Medicine as the first treatment option, as opposed to a first option of treating symptoms and consequences with expensive, ever-increasing quantities of pills and procedures. Shady Grove Fertility (SGF) Improves Treatment Outcomes and Helps More Couples Conceive through Cutting-Edge Clinical Research

https://www.prweb.com/

Cells under microscope

“It is one of the core values of our practice to constantly refine treatment protocols and understand treatment outcomes so that we can help more people achieve the goal of a successful pregnancy.”

Physician-scientists from Shady Grove Fertility (SGF)—a premier fertility and IVF center—presented new information that helps to improve treatment outcomes for the one in eight couples who face infertility at this year’s premier education and research meeting for reproductive medicine. Held from October 12 to 16, 2019, in Philadelphia, PA, the theme of this year’s Scientific Congress of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine was “Celebrating 75 Years of History and Innovation.” The program featured scientific, postgraduate, and video presentations as well as plenary lectures addressing the most pressing clinical and basic-science issues in reproductive medicine. The meeting drew nearly 10,000 attendees from 94 countries to share their clinical research and study findings from the past year.

For the past 28 years, the physicians at SGF have placed a high value on conducting clinical research and remain a leader in the field. It is one of only a few private practice fertility centers in the country to employ a full-time dedicated research team who perform under the direction of Director of Research, Kate Devine, M.D., board certified reproductive endocrinologist who sees patients in SGF’s Washington, D.C., K Street location.

“This conference offers physicians in our field from around the world a unique opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other,” explained Dr. Devine. “With a common goal of improving treatment outcomes for patients across the globe, SGF is able to share its findings so that others can benefit. Learning from each another’s research stirs innovation and helps us sow seeds that turn into new ideas for next year’s research endeavors,” Devine added.

Among the findings SGF presented this year, two of the most notable included a new study that evaluated the optimal oral medication type (letrozole compared to clomiphene citrate, or clomid) and dose in controlled ovarian hyperstimulation/intrauterine insemination (COH / IUI) cycles to increase clinical pregnancy rates (CPR) while lowering risk of multiple gestation, i.e., twins or triplets.

The data suggested that in ovulatory women, a starting dose of 50mg of clomid provides a greater chance of a singleton gestation than a higher starting dose. Simply put, more medication doesn’t always mean better success rates, and a higher dose increases a woman’s risk of multiples.

The data also showed, in the overall population, clinical pregnancy rates were comparable between patients who received letrozole and women given clomid. However, in women who are anovulatory (do not ovulate) specifically, there was a lower chance of a multiple pregnancy when given letrozole compared to clomid. In women who are ovulatory, neither medication showed a higher risk of multiples or a higher clinical pregnancy rate than the other.

“To maximize clinical pregnancy rates while minimizing the chance of multiples in oral ovulation induction/intrauterine insemination cycles, medication and dose should be chosen carefully. Our research sheds an important light on this popular treatment approach, making it safer for women by lowering their chances of high-risk, multiple gestation pregnancies while optimizing pregnancy rates,” said Devine.

This retrospective study evaluated 8,911 patients who underwent 15,453 oral ovulation induction-IUI (OI-IUI) cycles from 2004-2018 at SGF.

In the second, highly notable study, SGF’s physician scientists showed women with endometriosis achieve equal success rates when using euploid blastocysts during frozen embryo transfers compared to couples with other diagnoses—a significant finding as this challenges decades of fertility myth that suggested women with endometriosis don’t have the same success using fertility treatments.

Conducted in partnership with the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), SGF’s research gives hope to the nearly 10% of women who have endometriosis.

“We wanted to understand whether endometriosis, which may decrease a couple’s chances of conceiving naturally, also decreases their chances of having a baby from IVF, as many believe. Furthermore, we wanted to understand ‘why’. Was it that these women didn’t have the same rate of genetically normal embryos? Or that they have impaired endometrial receptivity preventing them from achieving or keeping a pregnancy?” explained Dr. Devine.

This retrospective study looked at 472 frozen embryo transfers in SGF patients using chromosomally normal blastocysts (as shown by preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy [PGT-A]). Three subsets of patients were included: women with surgically proven endometriosis, patients with isolated male factor infertility, and non-infertile patients electing genetic testing for a single gene disorder. The male factor infertility and single gene groups of patients were selected for comparison, as they typically yield strong pregnancy and delivery rates using IVF and because neither egg nor uterine infertility factors were likely to be present.

The results from the study showed that women with endometriosis had statistically similar rates of pregnancy and live birth compared to the other groups. Further, when patients with endometriosis were compared to each control group, there was no difference in the number and frequency of chromosomally normal blastocysts with PGT-A.

“We are excited to see that even though women with endometriosis may have impaired fertility, their diagnosis is not limiting them in their success with IVF treatment,” explained Devine.

“Patients can be reassured that their chances of a live birth are good when a euploid blastocyst is available. I’m encouraged for women and what this means for how we treat endometriosis. Along with advancements that we continue to make across the board, this study should encourage women with endometriosis that it’s very possible to build their family with the right treatment and timely care,” added Devine.

Mushroom Networks Sets Networks on Autopilot Furthering the Human vs. Machine Saga

Mushroom Networks, Inc. announced today a new set of capabilities that further automates networks via their cognitive SD-WAN routers. The new mechanisms can intelligently understand flow patterns, identify traffic types and accordingly adjust real-time treatment of IP packets over the WAN networks – moving those mundane duties away from network engineers at the enterprise branches.

Mushroom Networks’ SD-WAN routers have the ability to control how packets travel over the network by taking advantage of overlay tunnels that optimize performance in real-time with respect to application types. As an example, a WAN link can be greylisted with respect to real-time traffic during a period of high latency, while still being utilized for file transfers during the same period. These types of capabilities enable IT managers to automate traffic flow to WAN assignments providing dynamic management of those WAN resources on an on-going basis without costly and error-prone human involvement.

SD-WAN and IT automation have been widely regarded as a rising threat to human jobs as they can significantly reduce or completely eliminate many traditional IT tasks. “The new capabilities offload the manual analysis and never-ending network debugging work from the network engineer’s plate and automates that piece of the job”, said Dr. Jay Akin, CEO of Mushroom Networks. In fact, as more parts of network management are automated, job requirements for network engineering are shifting from daily routine tasks, including putting out daily fires, to high-level and forward-looking design projects.

Regarding the feared (but largely unjustified) threat that SD-WAN and IT automation jeopardize the jobs of IT professionals, Dr. Akin added, “Similar arguments were made about carriage drivers when cars were first invented, but I can safely argue that there are more professional vehicle drivers today than there were carriage drivers”.

About Mushroom Networks

Mushroom Networks, Inc., is a privately held company based in San Diego, CA, patented Broadband Bonding SD-WAN solutions to a wide range of Internet connection applications. Their products bond dissimilar broadband access technologies forming a single highly reliable broadband pipe that can easily be scaled and customized based on needs. It is incredibly difficult for consumers and retail employees to determine a floral bouquet’s remaining vase life, but no one wants to sell or buy flowers that are past their prime

PMA Fresh Summit, Booth #126 – October 17, 2019 – Evigence Sensors™ and fresh-cut tulip supplier Jarja Floral today announced the launch of a sensor specifically designed for the floral industry. Developed in partnership by Evigence and Jarja, the new Floral Merchandising Aid (FMA™) Sensor will be unveiled at the PMA Fresh Summit, Booth #126 in Anaheim, California. Leading supermarket chains are piloting the sophisticated freshness sensors on bouquets in select locations to reduce waste and increase customer satisfaction by ensuring optimum merchandising at point of purchase.

“It is incredibly difficult for consumers and retail employees to determine a floral bouquet’s remaining vase life, but no one wants to sell or buy flowers that are past their prime,” said John Oosterveld, president, Jarja. “Until now, there was no way to properly measure floral freshness to appropriately merchandise a bouquet. The FMA Sensor makes it easy for retailers and consumers to know the precise freshness of a floral arrangement.”

Designed to visually indicate the remaining saleable life of a perishable product, the latest addition to Evigence’s growing lineup of color-changing, intelligent sensors will help floral retailers better monitor and manage the merchandising of their bouquets. Like all Evigence sensors, the FMA™ Sensor takes the form of printed, self-adhesive labels in a variety of shapes and sizes that can be customized to a meet the shelf-life profile of all fresh-cut flowers.

“The extension of our sensor technologies to floral freshness was a natural fit. Like food, flowers have a short shelf life that is heavily influenced by temperature fluctuations during storage, transport and display,” added Yoav Levy, CEO, Evigence. “Floral retailers will no longer be forced to depend on a date code that cannot tell them when a bouquet is past its prime. Our new FMA Sensor gives retailers an accurate view of the bouquet’s saleable life from the time it arrives to the time of sale so they can better merchandise their stock—increasing sell through and eliminating waste.”

Changing color to indicate current freshness based on proprietary technology that monitors temperature and other freshness factors, the FMA Sensors are now available to retailers around the globe and can be calibrated for varying floral life spans. Barcodes, prices, date codes, and product origin information can also be printed on the FMA, offering transparency throughout the bouquet’s journey from producer to retailer and into a consumer’s home.
