Machine-Learning Data Company NthDS Honored with HBJ Innovation Award

NthDS - Discover. Digitize. Deliver.

Discover. Digitize. Deliver.

We’re innovating first to market solutions that make it impractical to continue to use the legacy methods

NthDS, an A.I. Business Solutions company, will become an inaugural recipient of a Houston Business Journal’s Innovation Award this week. Founded in 2018, NthDS revolutionized oil and gas data management with a powerful new A.I. software that saves organizations unprecedented time and labor costs by digitizing well log data and other records in the blink of an eye.

New for 2019, HBJ’s Innovation Awards recognize companies large and small using innovative methods and concepts to show measurable growth. NthDS’s award will be presented at a luncheon at the Marriott Marquis Houston on Thursday honoring the city’s best new companies.

“We’re very proud to be recognized by a respected institution like HBJ for the groundbreaking work we’re doing,” said NthDS CEO Michael Ramirez. “We’re innovating first to market solutions that make it impractical to continue to use the legacy methods.”

Manual data entry is slow, expensive, and impractical, making hundreds of thousands of historical records obsolete and useless. NthDS’s innovative Nspect solution uses artificial intelligence to instantly scan all kinds of records, from printouts to typed pages to handwritten notes. No matter how old, no matter how damaged, and no matter how illegible, Nspect can add any records—including well log data—into a client’s database of choice, saving weeks of work and tens of thousands of dollars in labor costs over manual recovery.

optimize.health Named a Finalist in Cerner Code App Challenge

optimize.health, the digital healthcare platform that powers provider reimbursements for the new wave of remote patient care, today announced that it has been named a finalist in the 2019 Cerner Open Developer Experience (code) App Challenge. This annual contest encourages third-party developers to design applications that integrate with electronic health records (EHR) systems to improve consumers’ access to their health information.

After careful deliberation, judges selected Seattle-based optimize.health as one of five companies deemed to best exemplify Cerner’s commitment to innovation in digital health. The firm unveiled its solution earlier this year, combining high-quality remote patient monitoring devices with an intuitive digital interface that allows patients to manage chronic medical conditions from the comfort of their own homes. The physiologic data they produce – vital signs, weight, blood pressure, heart rate and more – is then securely shared via optimize.health’s HIPAA-compliant platform with their healthcare professionals. This vital data can alert the patient’s clinicians to potential health issues at a nascent stage, enabling them to update care recommendations if necessary. Such early interventions can lead to better health outcomes, subsequently reducing hospital readmissions and, in turn, healthcare expenditures.

“We’re delighted to be selected as a finalist in this prestigious competition,” said Jeff LeBrun, co-founder and CEO of optimize.health. “We share Cerner’s commitment to providing transformative solutions that empower patients to better engage with their data and take a more active role in managing their health. Our platform also offers care providers greater insight into patients’ daily habits, and helps them to manage reimbursement for remote care rendered.”

Cerner, one of the largest suppliers of electronic health record systems in the country, launched its annual code App Challenge in 2016. As part of the entry process, third-party developers are encouraged to use Cerner’s health IT platforms and resources to build apps that facilitate patients’ access to data and accelerate transformation in healthcare. Potential solutions may be submitted at any stage of development–whether in ideation phase or as a working demo—but are required to embed across all EHR platforms. Apps may be created independently, as a team, or in collaboration with hospitals and health systems.

The winner of this year’s challenge will be announced in December and will receive a one-year membership to Cerner’s code program, as part of which Cerner engineers help to guide the app through the validation process. The winning proposal will also be added to Cerner’s code app gallery.

Interest in mobile health technologies has been growing in recent years, as hospitals and care providers seek to balance the healthcare needs of a rapidly aging population with burgeoning costs. In 2019, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) further paved the way for the adoption of innovative digital health solutions with the introduction of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes that support expanded reimbursement for remote care services. optimize.health’s platform meets the necessary standards for Medicare reimbursement and is currently used by some of the nation’s most respected health systems and research hospitals, as well as smaller practices wishing to embrace the benefits of remote patient monitoring. For more information, please see here.

About Optimize Health

Established in 2018 by experienced digital health entrepreneurs Jeff LeBrun and Chuks Onwuneme, optimize.health makes it easy for healthcare providers to offer patient-centric, reimbursable remote monitoring. optimize.health’s solution offers a wide selection of affordable devices, which integrate seamlessly with its easy-to-use technology platform, empowering patients and providers alike to improve health outcomes and contain costs.

Can Pets Help Today’s Teens Cope with Mental Health Issues?

“While previous generations have come to understand the positive impact pets can have on their health and well-being, members of Gen Z are tackling entirely new pressures and mental health issues unique to their generation.”

American Pet Products Association (APPA) CEO Steve King announced that the Association’s non-profit campaign Pets Add Life (PAL), charged with promoting the joys and benefits of responsible pet ownership, launched its latest video campaign today. A Pet Sees You is a short film highlighting the mental health benefits of pet ownership for members of the Gen Z population. To help tell the story, PAL has partnered with Gen Z director, Richelle Chen, to connect with young adults on a relatable and emotional level. Watch A Pet Sees You on YouTube or visit http://www.PetsAddLife.org.

“While previous generations have come to understand the positive impact pets can have on their health and well-being, members of Gen Z are tackling entirely new pressures and mental health issues unique to their generation,” said King. “We’re committed to doing our part to help promote alternative ways pets can help today’s younger generations cope with their struggles, while joining the meaningful, and extremely timely, mental health conversation.”

A Pet Sees You shows the day to day challenges of a high-school aged girl who faces the constant pressures of school, having an online presence, anxiety, heavy use of technology, mass shootings, and the desire to change the world. Despite these struggles, the short film emphasizes that a pet sees you, even when it feels like others don’t. The actress in the film stars alongside an affectionate and loyal Weimaraner, who also happens to be her best friend behind the scenes. The duo was cast as a package deal, making their on-screen connection even more relatable.

According to a recent Wakefield survey of 1,000 Gen Z Americans ages 11-17, nearly 80 percent have a pet in their household. 60 percent have a dog, 36 percent have a cat, 14 percent own fish and 23 percent have a small animal, reptile, bird or horse. Research from the 2019-2020 APPA National Pet Owners Survey also shows that Gen Zers identify stress relief (66 percent) and reduced levels of anxiety and depression (61 percent) as specific health benefits of pet ownership, more than any other generation.

“With the growing support of research showing that pet ownership can positively affect the Gen Z population, the pet care community has a responsibility to be at the forefront of these important discussions,” said King.

In conjunction with A Pet Sees You, PAL has provided resources on its website to further connect with Generation Z, which include links to mental health lifelines, quizzes to help respondents find their perfect pet, influencer testimonials, a pet finder and conversation starters to help teens talk to their parents about getting a pet.

Call for Corporate Sponsorships – IARFC 2020 National Financial Plan Competition

News Image

2019 Competition Winner Rebecca Boyle

Your Corporate Sponsorship means the continuation of the out-of-classroom education for these future consultants who need to understand fiduciary responsibility. It is a win-win scenario for everyone… IARFC Trustee and CEO H. Stephen Bailey, MRFC®.

Working from a fictional family financial case narrative, the students have to analyze data, find solutions, and present their financial plan articulately. Last year the entries included 13 universities nationwide, encompassing 71 teams. Ultimately 3 teams were brought to Nashville, TN during the IARFC Conference to present their plan to experienced financial professionals. The importance of this experience is to take what they are learning in class and apply it to a real world scenario.

Encouraging This NextGen of Consultants

The shrinking number of financial consultants equates to a shortage of up and coming professionals. A job outlook statistic from the Bureau of Labor Statistics sees a 7% faster than average growth in job outlook for 2018-28. This becomes an important statistic when attracting the next generation to a career in financial services. What better way to support an industry that encourages this career interest than to reach students at the collegiate level?

“Coming from a consultant who has enjoyed a successful and lucrative career in financial services, we have got to reach out to young people and instill in them the benefits of helping others through financial responsibility,” comments IARFC Trustee Chair and CEO, H. Stephen Bailey, MRFC®. “Your Corporate Sponsorship means the continuation of the out-of-classroom education for these future consultants who need to understand fiduciary responsibility. It is a win-win scenario for everyone.”

Corporate Involvement

Corporate Sponsorship gains positive visibility and advertising. Download the Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities Information to find out how the IARFC can promote corporate backing. A short webinar that details Competition Phases and Sponsorship is available upon request.

Corporate Sponsorship Levels Include:

  • $25,000 – Diamond
  • $15,000 – Platinum
  • $10,000 – Gold
  • $5000 – Silver

The Computer Center Announces New Main Street Janesville Location and Dedicated Training Center

Janesville’s downtown is going through some great changes right now and when I was looking at new locations I really wanted to stay in the downtown area.

In October The Computer Center becomes a Janesville Main Street business. The Computer Center, which has been providing IT support and training since 1983, announces its move to 39 S Main St., Janesville, WI. The technology company will occupy the 5000 square foot 3rd floor of the location. This move and expansion provides The Computer Center the ability to launch a training facility and multi-media conference room services in 2020.

Cyber security training will be the focus of the new training center, helping small businesses protect themselves from ransomware, phishing scams, and identity theft. Up until now there hasn’t been a single source for quality training in the area that specifically addresses the unique needs of small businesses and their staff. This is especially true when it comes to protecting their data and learning about new threats.

The facility will double as a space that other businesses in the area can rent for their own training, meetings, lunch-and-learns, business seminars, or other similar business events. It will be multi-media ready, allowing most anyone to come in, connect, and present to up to 20 attendees.

“My vision is to once again provide quality technology-related training to Rock County and the surrounding area. The Computer Center started as a training company back in the 80’s and I’ve always had a passion for teaching business owners and their employees how to truly leverage technology to make them more competitive and efficient in today’s market,” says James Pearson, President of The Computer Center.

Up until now, Pearson has been focusing on on-site training, renting space for his seminars, or using webinars. While these will continue, “having a dedicated technology training center will really open up additional possibilities and potential for assisting businesses in ways we currently cannot”, he stated.

According to a 2019 study by IBM about data breaches, 24% are due to human error. Further, as of 2019 individuals have become the primary target for cyber-attacks, above any specific industry or organization. Statistic also indicate that 1 in 5 small businesses will fall victim to some sort of cyber attack each year, and that number appears to be growing.

These scary statistics point to an ever-increasing need for businesses to educate themselves and their employees on the latest identity theft techniques such as phishing, social engineer, and other scams. And, since the bad guys are constantly coming up with new ways to trick people, keeping up with these constant changes can be challenging.

The ability to help educate local businesses on how to protect themselves was a key factor in the decision to move to the larger location and open a dedicated training center.

“Janesville’s downtown is going through some great changes right now and when I was looking at new locations I really wanted to stay in the downtown area. The location at 39 S. Main gives us the best of both worlds, the ability to continue showing our support in keeping technology companies in downtown Janesville, and a better way to serve our community by opening the training center next year,” says Pearson.

Currently The Computer Center is offering free webinars on a variety of IT-related topics including enhancing productivity, evaluating moving to the Cloud, and cyber security. You can find our more and register for an upcoming webinar, held every Thursday at 2pm, by visiting http://www.computer-center.com/webinars

Life-saving Ostomy Surgery Moves Out of the Shadows

UOAA estimates that there are 725,000 to 1-million people in the U.S. are alive today as a result of ostomy surgery.

It can save the lives of those shot or stabbed in the abdomen. It’s a life-saving surgery used in the final stages of common cancers such as colorectal and bladder. When deadly complications of inflammable bowel disease arise, it can give life back. When an infant comes into this world with a birth defect or rare disease of the digestive system, it can provide a childhood not possible several generations ago.

Yet ostomy surgery is still often talked about in hush tones and cloaked in stigma. People of all ages have this type of surgery that creates an opening (stoma) in the abdomen that allows for the removal of bodily waste into an odor-proof pouch outside the body. At its most simple it’s just a new way to go to the bathroom.

Though ostomy support and information has been around for well over half a century it is known that people still delay or refuse the surgery and die because of a preconceived notion of life with an “ostomy bag.” People who have connected with support and educational resources like those available from United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA), learn that there is indeed a full life possible after surgery. With a proper pouching system fit, emotional support, and doctor and ostomy nurse consultation – there are no limits on what a person living with an ostomy is capable of doing.

“Let’s work together to make sure people don’t suffer alone in silence,” says UOAA President and Susan Burns who had her life saved over 30 years ago from ileostomy surgery. Ostomies are life-savers¬. UOAA estimates that there are 725,000 to 1-million people in the U.S. are alive today as a result of ostomy surgery. “We’re living proof that you can pick up the pieces and do things like play with your grandchildren, go to college, find love, excel in your career, play sports and embrace life,” Burns says.

Saturday, October 5, 2019 is Ostomy Awareness Day and the theme is “Ostomies Are Life-Savers.” You can help ostomy awareness move out of the shadows and into the public consciousness. The resilience of the ostomy community will be on display at eight Run for Resilience Ostomy 5k events around the country from September 28th through October 12th. You’re also invited to attend or gather friends and family wherever you want and sign-up for a virtual walk/run option. Please visit http://www.ostomy5k.org for details. “Hollister Incorporated is proud to stand with UOAA as the exclusive Diamond Sponsor of its 2019 Run for Resilience Ostomy 5K events. UOAA and its members work tirelessly to increase awareness and support quality of life and life-saving ostomy surgery,” said Brian Luedtke, Hollister Senior Vice President, The Americas. “By coming together as a community we can collectively make a difference and help people living with ostomies experience their best lives.”

Go to http://www.ostomy.org to learn more about this life-saving surgery and all the ways to make an impact on this day. The Run for Resilience is supported by Hollister, Coloplast, Byram, Colo-Majic, ConvaTec, Safe n Simple and Kem Enterprises.
