EyeGuide, a leader in objective, affordable eye tracking for improved wellness, granted patent for visual attention testing without calibration

EyeGuide is poised to deliver Focus to the market as the most affordable, mobile, and fast eye tracking platform for ocular motor testing–Pat Carney, CEO

EyeGuide, a leader in affordable, effective eye tracking solutions since 2011, announces today a key patent granted from the United States Patent and Trade Office. Patent 10,398,301 grants EyeGuide IP for performing a visual attention test on a patient without calibrating pupil position of the patient.

“This is a critical next step in eye tracking technology, and something we’ve been building toward for a number of years,” said Dr. Brian Still, Founder and Chief Science Officer for EyeGuide. “Most eye tracking systems require lengthy calibration processes. They are also further reliant on bulky hardware, so in most cases it just isn’t possible for them to deliver reliable eye tracking test results in environments, such as on the sidelines of sporting events, where speed, and mobility, are of paramount importance. Our intention with Focus is to change all this, making objective, actionable eye tracking testing available anywhere, at any time. Our new patent adds to a rich portfolio of IP that will allow us to do that.”

Presently, EyeGuide is bringing to market Focus, a complete hardware and software solution that employs a 10-second visual attention test to assess fatigue and other wellness issues. Built on validated science, refined through more than 12,000 user tests, Focus is highly mobile, easy to deploy and test in any setting. Further, it is coupled with an Apple iPad to optimize the user experience, and it makes use of the “calibrationless” IP protected in this new patent to generate results faster than any competitor offering.

Dr. Catherine Ronaghan, a board certified surgeon and associate professor at TTUHSC, led a team that conducted 61 visual tracking tests of 21 surgeons using EyeGuide’s Focus system. Surgical participants were tested at the beginning and end of both 12-hour and 24-hour shifts, and then results were compared.

Ronaghan’s team learned that there was almost no change in visual attention for surgeons tested before and at the end of a 12-hour shift, even when that shift occurred overnight. However, visual attention dropped significantly after a 24-hour stretch of work, suggesting the possibility that fatigue, due to the longer time on-call, may be a cause of visual attention impairment.

“We saw in our study’s population a drop of almost two full grades, -1.8 (SD 1.6) after 24-hour in-house trauma and acute care surgery call,” according to Ronaghan. “That’s significant,” she continues, “and for obvious reasons. Visual attention is critical for surgical effectiveness.”

Dr. Sharmila Dissanaike, Chair of the Department of Surgery at TTUHSC, notes that Dr. Ronaghan’s trial study is part of an ongoing departmental effort to investigate how to provide the best patient outcomes, while preserving the wellness of surgeons and other healthcare providers. All trauma and emergency general surgery surgeons in the department have now transitioned to 12-hour shifts instead of the traditional 24 hours, although the 24-hour model remains the standard at most trauma centers across the country. Anecdotally, the surgeons report improved well-being since the transition last year, lending credence to the findings from Dr. Ronaghan’s study.

“EyeGuide is poised to deliver Focus to the market as the most affordable, mobile, and fast eye tracking platform for ocular motor testing,” said Pat Carney, CEO. “Right now we see Focus as an ideal solution for a wide range of users to rely on for understanding how fatigue impacts performance in work or play. Focus is also a great tool for charting overall wellness, even improving visual attention.”

EyeGuide Inc, based in Philadelphia, PA USA, is the maker of Focus, a SOFAST™ (Simple, Objective, Fast, Affordable, Status Tracking) tool intended to replace the finger test for ocular motor function. Focus captures 1200 data points on eye movement in just 10 seconds, enabling you to capture, chart, and analyze objective data to better understand your overall wellness. National Experts Call on the American Public to Recognize Public Health Crisis and Take Action During National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month

https://www.prweb.com/

You can save a life!

Our growing Survivor Network is a testament to the fact that immediate bystander CPR and defibrillation greatly increases the likelihood of survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a public health crisis. It strikes 1,000 people each day in the U.S. alone. Thousands of lives could be saved each year if more people understood the critical importance of bystander intervention with CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation urges the public to take some simple steps to be prepared.

Sudden cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. Usually, there is no warning. It strikes people of all ages who may seem to be healthy, even children and teens. When SCA happens, the person collapses and doesn’t respond or breathe normally. They may gasp or shake as if having a seizure. SCA leads to death in minutes if the person does not get help right away. Survival depends on people nearby calling 911, starting CPR, and using an AED as soon as possible.

Today, only 1 in 10 victims survives. But when bystanders give CPR and use an AED at the scene, as many as 5 in 10 victims survive. And, since sudden cardiac arrest most often occurs at home, laypersons will most likely be called upon to help save the life of a loved one.

Here’s what everyone needs to know:

Survival from SCA depends on the quick actions of people nearby who call 911, start CPR and use an AED to restart the heart. Specifically, they should:

  • Recognize sudden cardiac arrest. If a person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, assume it is SCA.
  • Call 911 and follow dispatcher instructions.
  • Start CPR. Push hard and fast on the center of the chest at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute (e.g., to the tune of “Baby Shark” or “Staying Alive”).
  • Use the nearest AED as quickly as possible to restart the heart.

“Our growing Survivor Network is a testament to the fact that immediate bystander CPR and defibrillation greatly increases the likelihood of survival from sudden cardiac arrest,” said Mary Newman, MS, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation president. “And, since most cardiac arrests occur in the home, taking time to learn CPR and how to use an AED could mean the difference between life and death for a loved one.”

About the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is a national community benefit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and saving lives. Programs include the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Network, an online community that provides peer support and opportunities for survivors and loved ones to participate in awareness, advocacy, and research initiatives. The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is a proud co-sponsor of the CallPushShock movement. For more information, resources and access to national experts, visit https://www.sca-aware.org.

Visikol Expands Image Analysis as a Service Capabilities

News Image

At Visikol we have assisted many pharma and biotech companies with making sense of large multi-dimensional data sets and extracting key quantitative metrics

Imaging data sets are generated through drug discovery research projects using a wide-range of imaging modalities such as optical projection tomography, optical coherence tomography, echocardiogram, light sheet microscopy, MRI and X-ray CT. While many research groups have the capability to generate these data sets inhouse, a lot of research groups struggle with transforming these large and sometimes noisy data sets into actionable insights that allow them to make more informed decisions during the drug discovery process.

“At Visikol, we have assisted many pharma and biotech companies with making sense of large multi-dimensional data sets and extracting key quantitative metrics. We find that most off-the-shelf image analysis platforms are limited in their flexibility and a lot of research groups reach out to us when they need help with building customized image analysis solutions,” described Visikol Chief Science Officer Dr. Tom Villani.

To start an image analysis project with Visikol, Clients discuss with the Visikol project team the types of end-points they are interested in and the details of their specific research question. Clients will then send along a hard drive of data or upload files to Visikol’s secure cloud-based file sharing platform. From this data, Visikol can apply its 3Screen™ image analysis tools which are a suite of digital pathology algorithms designed for use with both two-dimensional and three-dimensional image data sets. These tools are ultimately used to transform the data sets provided by Clients into actionable insights that allow Clients to make more informed decisions during the drug discovery processes.

“Over the last few years, we have worked with Clients on projects ranging from analyzing 40-plex multiplex slide data sets and processing thousands of in vivo optical coherence retina imaging data sets to identifying novel image-based biomarkers such as in our recent work with Enzyvant Therapeutics,” described Visikol Director of Imaging Services Dr. Graeme Gardner. While there are many digital pathology companies in the marketplace today offering services as well as off-the-shelf digital pathology solutions, Visikol has become a leader in this space through its expertise with multi-dimensional datasets, on-demand custom software development and image analysis software validation and clinical deployment.

About Visikol

Visikol is a CRO focused on advanced drug discovery that is leading the fields of bio-imaging, bioinformatics and image analysis. We conduct end-to-end drug discovery services that include both 2D and 3D in vitro models and assays, 3D whole mount tissue imaging, digital pathology and custom drug discovery projects. Visikol offers a portfolio of drug discovery services ranging from 2D and 3D cell culture model and assay development to in vitro screening, animal tissue histology and automated image processing. The focus of these services is to transform tissues into images and ultimately into quantitative data sets that can be mined for actionable insights that help our Clients make more informed decisions during the drug discovery process. Additionally, Visikol manufactures and sells a suite of tissue clearing reagents and 3D immuno-labeling kits. These products allow researchers to easily and rapidly image whole tissues and 3D cell culture models in 3D instead of traditional 2D sectioning. Pastor Ronald A. Palmer’s newly released “With God As My Partner” is a real-life story that inspires everyone to accept God as their partner in everything

News Image

“With God As My Partner: An Autobiography”: an inspiring memoir that talks about God’s calling to a person who has a vast faith and trust to Him. “With God As My Partner: An Autobiography” is the creation of published author Pastor Ronald A. Palmer, a hospital corpsman and surgical technician who spent a year in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He answered the call of God to preach in April 1969 and to Pastor in 1971. He felt led to write this book to encourage others, especially those pastoring small churches.

Palmer writes, “In 1972, I felt impressed by the Lord to write a book about my life and ministry. He even gave me the title, With God As My Partner. I voiced my objection in prayer by ‘reminding’ Him that I had only been preaching for three years and pastoring for one. I had no experience in writing, but all I heard in return was, ‘Not now.’

“I went through life with many ‘experiences’ (both good and bad) piling up through the years. About four years ago, my wife said, ‘Ron, why don’t you write a book about your life and ministry?’ I didn’t have any good answer for her; and since she is my best friend, my closest confidant, and my dearest prayer partner, I gave it some serious thought. In the following year, I came in contact with three or four others who asked me the same thing. Because of this, I went to the Lord in sincere prayer, and He said, ‘Now is the time.’

“The book is not really in any chronological order but goes back and forth at times as I remember things. Again, the only way I could remember times, people, and names are with God as my partner. I was not striving to produce any item of ‘literary art,’ but something that could be shared with others what God has shared with me through the years. It has been an interesting journey, and I look forward to continuing it.

“When I gave the book its title, it was with a sense of humility, and not arrogance. I am well aware of the fact that the only way I (or anyone else) can ‘partner’ with God is by His grace, realizing that it is all for His glory.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Pastor Ronald A. Palmer’s new book is a fascinating read that allows the readers to accept Christ as their partner in conquering the challenges and journeys in life.

With this purpose, Palmer aims to inspire others through his experiences on how he answered God’s calling as a person.

A New Article Explains How Accurate Car Insurance Quotes Online Really Are

News Image

“Car insurance quotes can be really accurate. But you must offer accurate info, first!”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Carinsuranceplan.org has released a new blog post that explains how drivers can get accurate quotes and save car insurance money

Drivers rely on quotes to take important decisions and plan their available budget. So, it is of utmost importance to get as accurate as possible quotes. But should drivers rely on online quotes? This blog spot explains more. Also, drivers can get free car insurance quotes from https://carinsuranceplan.org/how-accurate-is-a-car-insurance-quote/

  • Quotes can be really accurate. Although they are approximations, they can predict the final price with great accuracy, when the submit form is used properly. And online quotes tend to have a high degree of accuracy. The reason is simple: data is sent and received between user and an insurer’s database with extreme speed.
  • However, the accuracy of the quotes depends on the info provided. As drivers can hear many times, quotes are as accurate and they let them be. This means that if a person wants really accurate quotes, he or she must provide accurate info. Providing a wrong car model or a wrong ZIP code will make the prices differ from the actual costs.
  • Keep relevant documents nearby when searching for online quotes. This includes documents for the car, driving license, ZIP code. They will make sure that the provided data is offered with higher accuracy.
  • Offer accurate annual mileage estimates. Online questionnaires will ask about how many miles are driven per year by the customer. They will ask an approximation, offering several range options. Choose the one that approximates better the actual mileage.

Carinsuranceplan.org is an online provider of life, home, health, and auto insurance quotes. This website is unique because it does not simply stick to one kind of insurance provider, but brings the clients the best deals from many different online insurance carriers. In this way, clients have access to offers from multiple carriers all in one place: this website. On this site, customers have access to quotes for insurance plans from various agencies, such as local or nationwide agencies, brand names insurance companies, etc.

Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption Releases Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces List

News Image

“We are so pleased to see a growing number of employers recognize the importance of supporting families formed through adoption,” said Rita Soronen, President & CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Annual survey of employers reveals increased investment in adoption benefits

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption released its 13th annual Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list recognizing organizations with the most robust adoption benefit programs. The list compares financial reimbursement and paid leave offered to employees who adopt, based on a survey of organizations across the United States. The Foundation partnered with RTI International, an independent, nonprofit research institute, to conduct this year’s survey.

More than 25 years ago, Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s® and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, led an initiative advocating for better adoption benefits in the workplace. The Foundation has carried that legacy forward through its signature Adoption-Friendly Workplace program and 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list.

The 2019 list includes a diverse group of organizations, with three to nearly 350,000 employees, representing 23 industries. On average, employers that completed the survey offer $9,362 in financial reimbursement, which is up 1.2% from 2018. The average amount of paid leave was 7.4 weeks, up 1.3% from last year’s list.

“We are so pleased to see a growing number of employers recognize the importance of supporting families formed through adoption,” said Rita Soronen, President & CEO of the Foundation. “Congratulations to all the organizations on this year’s list, and thank you for sharing our belief that every child deserves a permanent home and loving family.”

NVIDIA is atop the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list for the second year in a row. The Santa Clara, CA-based artificial intelligence company offers all full- and part-time employees unlimited financial aid to cover the cost of an adoption. NVIDIA also provides up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave to women and men welcoming an adopted child into their home.

“NVIDIA recognizes that families are built in many ways, but they all share the common bond of love. We are excited to be recognized by the Foundation for the second year in a row. Our commitment to employees and their families is core to who we are,” said Beau Davidson, Vice President of Employee Experience at NVIDIA.

The Foundation also ranks employers by size, industry, best paid leave and foster care benefits. Additionally, a new impact list recognizes organizations with more than 1,000 employees that provide the largest overall financial benefits for adoption and have the capacity to reach the greatest number of people. Target Corporation ranked first on the 2019 impact list.

The Wendy’s Company has been designated with Forever Family emeritus status after being atop the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list for many years. “One of Wendy’s core values is ‘Do the Right Thing.’ Our founder Dave Thomas was adopted, and he strongly believed that offering adoption benefits is simply the right thing to do for your employees,” said Todd Penegor, President & CEO of The Wendy’s Company and Vice Chair of the Foundation’s board of trustees. “Wendy’s is proud to be one of the companies leading the way with robust adoption benefits, and we are thrilled to see NVIDIA top the list for a second year.”
