Neoti to Provide New LED Scoreboard and Displays at Parkview Field

“Neoti is excited to partner with the Fort Wayne TinCaps and All Pro Integrated Systems to upgrade the LED displays at Parkview Field,” said Neoti President and CEO, Derek Myers.

Neoti has been awarded the LED video display project for the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field. Selected for their ultrabright LED technology and exceptional service, Neoti is excited to share this technology with another Indiana-based company.

Neoti’s rugged, outdoor ECO panels were a natural choice for this large stadium application. The ECO product line is built to withstand the most demanding environments, including the wide range of weather that Fort Wayne experiences each year. The ultrabright ECO panels will replace the ballpark’s original video boards from 2008.

“We had a good run with those video boards,” stated TinCaps President, Mike Nutter. “Over the course of almost 800 TinCaps games, and hundreds more non-baseball events, the boards had just run the course of their useful life. It was time to replace them and we’re excited about the new possibilities for the fan experience with the upgrade to HD.”

Final production and design of the video displays are moving forward now that the funds have been approved. The new displays, along with an updated control room, will be installed by All Pro Integrated Systems, and will be in place for the 2020 TinCaps season.

“Neoti is excited to partner with the Fort Wayne TinCaps and All Pro Integrated Systems to upgrade the LED displays at Parkview Field,” said Neoti President and CEO, Derek Myers. “We recognize the standard that has been set by the TinCaps and the City of Fort Wayne with Parkview Field, and it is our honor and goal to exceed expectations with our LED video display products and services.”

The LED video displays and updated control room are just part of the upgrades taking place at Parkview Field. The TinCaps are committed to providing their fans and visitors with a memorable ballpark experience and so, in addition to Neoti’s LED video displays, there will be many upgrades throughout the ballpark.

About Neoti, LLC

Headquartered in the American Midwest, Neoti is a leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution and service of direct-view LED Displays. Neoti specializes in high definition, fine pixel pitch displays for such applications as broadcast, higher education, corporate spaces, retail signage, exhibits, worship venues, and creative experiences; while providing additional direct-view LED Displays for indoor, outdoor, and rental applications. Neoti is also proud to offer world-class, U.S.-based component-level repair and service capabilities for nearly all makes and manufacturers of direct-view LED displays. Founded in 2006, Neoti is privately owned, providing an unrivaled level of support and service to its customers.

Louisiana Walks for Parkinson’s Benefits the Davis Phinney Foundation

News Image

“As Davis Phinney says, every challenge met is a victory,” says Louisiana Walks Event Director Michelle David Lane.

The spirit of Louisiana will be embraced by the 8th Annual Louisiana Walks for Parkinson’s, sponsored by US WorldMeds and benefiting the Davis Phinney Foundation. The event celebrates all the best that Louisiana has to offer — community, living well, and of course incredible food, beer and wine.

The walk and festivities will be Saturday, Oct. 12 at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La.

The event benefits the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s. The organization is focused on programs and research to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. In 2018, a portion of funds raised at Louisiana Walks were also donated to the NOLA Ballet’s local Dance for Parkinson’s classes. This year the event is supporting the local community by bringing a world class symposium, the Davis Phinney Foundation’s The Victory Summit, to Baton Rouge in March 2020.

Delicious local food, wine, beer, many activities for children, and a selection of handicap accessible courses make this event tailor-made for people who want to have a lot of fun while giving back to the community. There will be a silent auction, crafts, raffles, live entertainment and more.

Event Director Michelle David Lane and Susan Sapir-Fields, assistant walk director, shared their stories here. Susan lost her mother to Parkinson’s; Michelle herself was diagnosed at a young age, and happened to be diagnosed the same year as Davis Phinney.

“People think of it as a shaking disease,” Michelle says. But she says, it’s so much more.

She explains that Parkinson’s affects so many aspects of day-to-day life, including speech and the ability to carry on regular tasks that many people take for granted. The medications people take to help ease symptoms have side effects, she says. And there is no cure — which is why programs and activities that help people with Parkinson’s live well today are so important.

That extends to dedicated caretakers, including Susan who took care of her mother.

“Being a caretaker is a full-time job,” Susan says. Members of Team DPF, one of the fundraising arms of the Foundation which includes both people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones, will join Susan and others at Louisiana Walks. The organization recognizes that “living well” means different things to different people, but celebrates all aspects of the good life: Physical activity, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying cultural events like Louisiana Walks.

Getting through the day, taking a long walk, doing daily chores and savouring the best your day has to offer are all “victories” Michelle says.

“As Davis Phinney says, every challenge met is a victory,” Michelle says.

The Davis Phinney Foundation has research-based and experiential data supporting how much exercise, daily victories and living well today can improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s, and those who care for them.

For more information about the event, including sponsors, activities and a sneak peek at silent auction items, go to http://www.parkinsonswalk.org.

Sponsors of this year’s walk include: Waters Parkerson & Co., Amneal, Boston Scientific, MaxHome, Ochsner and LSU/Tulane Neurology, Bistro Orleans, Don’s Seafood, Mary Brocato, Backyard Lawn Master Outdoor Living, SLO Melt, Abita Brewing Co, Acme Oyster House, Baudry Therapy, Big Easy Food, Copelands, Gold Medal, Medtronic, Raising Canes, Reginelli’s Pizzeria and many more.

The Davis Phinney Foundation was founded by Olympic cyclist Davis Phinney in 2004 to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. The organization’s focus is to provide programs and resources that offer inspiration, information and tools that enable people living with Parkinson’s to take action that can immediately improve their quality of life. Parkinson’s is the No. 2 neurodegenerative disease — second only to Alzheimer’s — and affects more than 1 million people in the United States. The Foundation’s work impacts hundreds of thousands of individuals and families each year.

Team DPF is the grassroots fundraising community that supports the Davis Phinney Foundation through participation in a wide range of athletic and community-based events. With a focus on fun, personal empowerment and fundraising for Parkinson’s, Team DPF welcomes all ages and abilities. With roots in cycling, Team DPF also extends to runners, climbers, swimmers, hikers, community events and more. Team DPF is sponsored by: Primal, Alt Red, SCRATCH Labs, BOCO Gear, Altra Running, Baker Insurance and Boulder Neurological and Spine Associates. Visit dpf.org to learn more.

Typical Penalties For Drunk Driving Or Driving While Intoxicated

News Image

“DUI convicts can expect harsh penalties, including fines, community service or even jail time”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Compare-autoinsurance.org has launched a new blog post that explains the typical penalties applied to people caught with DUI/DWI. Besides immediate penalties, future car insurance premiums will also become more expensive.

For more info and free car insurance quotes online, visit https://compare-autoinsurance.org/penalties-for-dui-dwi/

Each state has its own laws regarding DUI/DWI and associated penalties. The most common penalties include:

  • Jail and community service. First-time offenders with a low BAC will usually have to do community service. The situation changes, even for first offenders, when human victims are involved. In this case, the felony is likely to result in jail time for the DUI driver. The length of the jail time sentence depends on the condition of the victims. The guilty driver can expect to serve several months of jail time for minor injuries like bruises, or even many years behind the bars if the victim dies because of the accident.
  • Fines. Depending on which state the incident happened, expect fines from as low as $500 for first-time offenders in North-Dakota, and as high as $10,000 for drivers that have children on board in Texas.
  • Drug and alcohol education programs. Many states offer lesser penalties to those drivers that attend these programs. In some states, participating in a drug and alcohol education course is mandatory.
  • AA meetings. Judges may sentence DUI drivers to participate in this type of meetings, depending on their cases.
  • License suspension. The majority of states will suspend a driver’s license if they fail a breathalyzer test. The suspension time vary from state to state, and it can be as low as one week to as much as one year in Georgia. Factors like, first-time offense, multiple DUI convictions, or the severity of the offense are considered when a license is suspended.
  • Ignition interlock device. In some states, the judges can order for an ignition interlock device to be installed in the cars of multiple offenders. This device works like a breathalyzer that doesn’t allow the car engine to start if the driver’s BAC is above a certain level.
  • Expensive premiums. Car insurance rates will double, or even triple. And that’s in the best case. The insurance provider can drop coverage, or it will simply not renew your policy. DUI convicts are considered a high-risk driver for the insurance companies and at least three years.

Cumberland Academy of Georgia Expands Its Experiential Emotional Intelligence Curriculum

Student at Cumberland Academy of Georgia who participates in the "IMAGINE If..." program

“The more we infuse Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into the curriculum and student life, the better our students are equipped to handle stress and surprise,” said Dr. Spargo, director of counseling at Cumberland Academy.

Cumberland Academy of Georgia believes that social growth is equally as important as academic growth. In addition to a teaching staff that specializes in educating students with learning differences, Cumberland houses a therapeutic counseling staff that plays an equal role in student success at school, at home and in the world. One of the tools Cumberland counselors utilize is an experiential emotional intelligence curriculum entitled “IMAGINE If..”. “IMAGINE If…” emphasizes core principles like “gratitude” and “courage” in an effort to build a student’s level of self-awareness, motivation, and self-esteem.

On a weekly basis, students explore various topics through open discussions in the classroom and journaling digitally through Google Classroom. The counseling staff introduces the material to students during homeroom, and teachers incorporate the information into their lessons, providing students with additional opportunities to explore concepts in their daily interactions. The digital journal also provides students with opportunities to express their feelings and reflect. Journal prompts are provided, and students respond based on their thoughts and experiences. This online forum is monitored by counselors and provides them with valuable insight and feedback on each student.

“The more we infuse Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into the curriculum and student life, the better our students are equipped to handle stress and surprise,” said Dr. Spargo, director of counseling at Cumberland Academy. “The program helps us know how to listen and reach our students, so they can develop life-long skills to navigate successfully in all areas of life.”

Aligning with Cumberland’s mission, the “IMAGINE If…” program helps provide support and guides students in learning the importance of goal setting, daily positive practice, and self-awareness to become self-sufficient young adults. Jennifer Kramer, speaker and author of “IMAGINE If…”, regularly visits the campus and is accessible to faculty, staff, and families as a consultant.

About Cumberland Academy of Georgia

Cumberland Academy of Georgia specializes in the needs of students in grades 4 through 12 who have high-functioning autism, Asperger’s syndrome, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning disabilities. Cumberland was founded in 2007 by Debbi and Matthew Scarborough, and is a fully-accredited, independent, non-profit school that seeks to provide a safe and supportive academic atmosphere for its students. Cumberland accepts applications year-round. To schedule a family tour, please contact Jane Paoletta, Director of Admissions, at 404-835-9000, or email admissions@cumberlandacademy.org.

25 North American senior living communities win the Beacon Award for ‘Best in Wellness’

ICAA NuStep Beacon "Best in Wellness" Award

ICAA NuStep Beacon “Best in Wellness” Award

The Beacon is awarded to communities that successfully foster a wellness culture and an environment that supports wellness for all who live and work there.

As the population of older adults continues to grow and more individuals seek a better, longer life, where people choose to live becomes increasingly important. Wellness has emerged as a culture shift in many senior living communities in the last decade. These communities prioritize wellness—and its pursuit—as an essential way of life. Yet how they structure their support for wellness can significantly affect health and longevity. Wellness is not simply something to practice; it is a culture that permeates all aspects of life—and now a new awards program will highlight communities whose efforts make them shining examples. Twenty-five communities have been recognized with the 2019 ICAA NuStep Beacon Award for their “Best in Wellness” achievements.

The Beacon Award was created as a joint venture between two organizations: the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and NuStep, LLC, both of whom have long supported, and advocated for, older adult wellness. ICAA is responsible for leading, connecting and defining the active-aging industry. CEO and founder Colin Milner says, “Senior living communities have been aware for a long time how important wellness is for the health of their residents, which is reflected in a survey ICAA recently conducted. The survey shows that 59% of senior living communities state that their business model will be wellness-centered with care services by 2023.”*

The Beacon is awarded to communities that successfully foster a wellness culture and an environment that supports wellness for all who live and work there. Wellness is typically defined by seven key dimensions: emotional, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, vocational and environmental. These dimensions improve a resident’s quality of life when they are nurtured and prioritized as a whole.

The Beacon recipients have demonstrated remarkable strength in creating resident-staff partnerships to create meaningful opportunities that empower participants to improve their quality of life. The award-winners achieved this by weaving wellness into the fabric of their communities. By doing so, they could then provide exceptional innovation, inspiration and motivation for engaging residents and staff in a wellness culture and journey.

“It is a pleasure to honor the top 25 wellness communities,” says Jane Benskey, marketing communications specialist at NuStep, LLC (a manufacturer of recumbent cross trainer exercise equipment used in healthcare, senior living and fitness settings). “Their recognition of the value and importance of creating cultures where wellness is not a program in a room, but rather a way of life, is having a lasting and positive impact on many lives.”

Milner agrees. He adds, “Although there are only 25 winners of the 2019 Beacon Award, every community that enters the awards contest, and every older adult or staff member whose life improves due to that community’s wellness culture, is already a winner.”

The award recipients are beacons for the industry, going above and beyond to bring wellness to many nuances of daily living at their communities. ICAA and NuStep, LLC are proud to announce this year’s top 25:
