Creating a Strong Digital Personal Brand is Key to Career Success

Digital You Cover

“Personal branding is alive and well in its new digital-first version and is in fact one’s most valuable career asset if developed and used properly,” says author William Arruda.

Despite talk that the personal branding revolution is over, there is a new era of digital personal branding that is not only thriving but vital to success. In Digital You: Personal Branding in a Virtual Age, branding expert and author William Arruda contends that while the analog personal branding of the 1990’s and 2000’s is indeed over, the death of personal branding is just myth.

Arruda identifies nine trends in what he calls the personal branding reboot: nexting, flextrapreneurship, digital first, brandscaping, treadmill learning, digital advocacy, distance branding, digital dexterity and Youcasting. Understanding these trends is critical to one’s ability to amp up success and happiness at work.

“Personal branding is alive and well in its new digital-first version and is in fact one’s most valuable career asset if developed and used properly,” says Arruda. “The myth of its death results from confusion by those who confound use of social media with what is actually required to stand out in a noisy world of information overload.”

“We live in an ever-changing virtual age where first impressions are now commonly made through one’s digital presence—a first impression is not necessarily a result of the first handshake or in-person conversation. As such, it is important to make strong digital impressions to stay relevant, visible and valuable. One must master new rules and tools. Regardless of who you are and where you are in your career, craft your digital brand of distinction,” states Arruda.

Arruda outlines how to do this in four strategic, logical and serial parts mirroring the personal digital journey he asks the reader to take:

Real You + Virtual You + Visual You + Social You= Digital You

From defining your authentic story and translating that for a digital audience, Arruda guides you step by step on how to create your unique digital brand and build your network. “I’ll guide you on how to be a multi-media standout and show you how branding tools—especially LinkedIn—can be utilized for maximum results.

First-Ever San Diego-Grown Geisha Coffee Featured at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters

News Image

Mraz Family Farms Geisha, grown in San Diego California

Now, unlike any other moment in history, we have access to Geisha, one of the world’s rarest, multiple award-winning and delicious coffees, grown right in our backyard. We see this as the beginning of a sea change in coffee producing

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters announced today an exclusive partnership with Mraz Family Farms, owned by multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter Jason Mraz, to provide the first-ever San Diego grown coffee to consumers in the U.S. This is the first time a Geisha varietal has been grown and harvested on San Diego soil and made available online and to local consumers.

The unique availability of intercontinental-grown coffee is made available due to Frinj Coffee’s proprietary coffee plants that have proven viability in partnering with avocado farms in Southern California. Mraz Family Farms is one of the early Frinj Coffee growers, is a certified organic operation, and located in northern San Diego. Partnering with Frinj Coffee in 2015, they planted their first coffee plants, integrating them into their existing avocado farm. As co-partners, they worked together to grow high quality, single-origin varietals for coffee enthusiasts. Frinj Coffee is credited with managing the post-harvest process for Mraz’s production and the preparation of the highest quality lots for sale to Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. This year marked the largest harvest to date and is the first time Mraz Family Farm coffee will be available to San Diego, and only through Bird Rock Coffee Roasters.

“It has always been our mission to provide San Diego with the best specialty coffee the world has to offer, and now we can include San Diego County in that lineup of excellence,” said Jeff Taylor, co-owner of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. “Now, unlike any other moment in history, we have access to Geisha, one of the world’s rarest, multiple award-winning and delicious coffees, grown right in our backyard. We see this as the beginning of a sea change in coffee producing and are thrilled to be on the forefront with our outstanding coffee partners, Frinj and Mraz Family Farms.”

This launch follows Bird Rock Coffee Roasters’ and Frinj Coffee’s partnership earlier this year where an exclusive cupping event took place, featuring a California-grown certified organic Cuicateco, which received a score of 92 in a third-party review from Coffee Review. The coffee was grown by Frinj’s flagship and organically certified farm, Good Land Organics. All beans available for purchase sold out in one day.

“This is a true milestone in California’s culinary history and I am proud to see it,” says Jay Ruskey, CEO of Frinj Coffee. “What you are tasting in this cup is the tireless refinement of 20 years of farming from a very dedicated group of people on the Frinj and Mraz Family Farm Team. Thank you Bird Rock for supporting us.”

Frinj Coffee is on a mission to develop coffee production along the southern coast of California. There are 47 partnering Frinj farms between Santa Barbara and San Diego with more than 57,000 coffee trees planted in the ground. Coffee, an entirely imported product, has now been growing in California for over 17 years. The increasing demand for super-specialty coffee is what is fueling the commercial growth. Another result of this pioneering industry is the opportunity to provide the struggling local farming industry with an alternative to the existing commercial crop production of avocados and citrus with a high-valued crop.

“In 2015, with the help of family & friends, Mraz Family Farms was established to produce a diverse array of organic fruits in a sustainable and conscious fashion. At that time, we planted our first coffee trees and teamed up with Frinj Coffee to help us grow high quality, single-origin varietals for serious coffee enthusiasts,” said Jason Mraz, owner of Mraz Family Farms. “Bird Rock Coffee Roasters will be the first and closest coffee shop in California to sell Frinj’s California Geisha grown by Mraz Family Farms. We are proud to have partnered with both of these companies. After 20 years, it is an honor and a thrill to still be sharing my joy in coffee shops.”

The Mraz Family Geisha has tasting notes of jasmine tea, honey, key lime pie, and elderflower. The coffee will be available by the cup at all six Bird Rock Coffee Roaster’s locations for $35 per cup as supplies last. The whole beans will be available online and offered at 4oz for $199 per unit.

Further harvests from Mraz Family Farms are expected in the Spring of 2020 and to be available at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters.

With the continued interest in outdoor fitness, PlayCore’s updated best practice guidebook release is a timely tool for providing communities with guidance to create meaningful outdoor fitness spaces.

The book, Outdoor Adult Fitness Parks, Best Practices for Promoting Community Health by Increasing Activity, was created with an expert advisory council, including Dr. Michael Suk, M.D., J.D., MPH, FACS, and Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Geisinger Health System, Danville, PA; Dr. Gary Liguori, Ph.D., Department Head of Health and Human Performance, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; and Dr. Thom McKenzie, Ph. The guidebook helps outline the need for and the unique benefits of outdoor fitness. In addition, it offers design best practices on creating outdoor fitness parks that align with total body fitness, proposes strategies for implementation and sustainability, suggests meaningful ways to maximize the investment in an Outdoor Fitness Park through maintenance and programming, then presents methods for tracking and reporting outcomes for continuous improvement.

The book also features several case studies of Outdoor Fitness Parks that have embraced best practices to create meaningful spaces where communities gather to increase physical activity and promote health improvement.

Trella Health Named a Best Place to Work by Modern Healthcare

Trella Health, the leading source for post-acute, acute, and ambulatory care outcomes data and performance analytics, announced it has been named one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2019. Trella was ranked No. 19 in the healthcare suppliers category. The complete list of this year’s rankings is available at https://cutt.ly/9eyGR91.

“We are honored to be included in this esteemed list of healthcare organizations,” said Ian Juliano, CEO of Trella Health. “Every day our incredible employees exemplify our core values of care, ownership, drive, and innovation as we empower customers to grow their businesses and deliver excellent patient care. Words can’t describe how fortunate we feel to have such a team.”

Trella Health provides solutions to healthcare providers- including home health, hospice, skilled nursing, and acute organizations- to grow their business and drive better patient outcomes. Trella Health’s solutions allow healthcare providers to better compete in the value-based care environment.

To complete the assessment process, which includes an extensive employee survey, Modern Healthcare partners with the Best Companies Group. “With record unemployment levels, organizations face stiff competition to attract and retain top talent. The providers and companies making this year’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare list understand the importance of creating an environment where employees can not only excel in their own development but contribute to the mission of improving care delivery,” said Aurora Aguilar, editor of Modern Healthcare. “An appreciation—and dedication—to their organization’s mission was one of the most common refrains from employees filling out surveys this year.”

Trella Health was honored at the 2019 Best Places to Work Awards Dinner on Thursday, September 26, at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel. This is the second year Trella Health (formerly Excel Health) has made the list.

About Trella Health

Trella Health provides acute, ambulatory, and post-acute organizations with the most complete picture of care activity in their service areas. As one of only a few companies in the country deemed ‘Innovators’ under the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service’s Virtual Research Data Center Program, Trella has access to 100% of Medicare Part A and Part B claims data. Trella analyzes 1.2 billion claims annually and presents relevant insights to nearly 10,000 users so they can build higher-performing care networks, serve more patients, and reduce the cost of care.

Cancer Hope Network honors longtime volunteers Lori Roth and Randy Cohen

Randy Cohen and Lori Roth - Spirit of Hope honorees

“Cancer can consume you. It takes over your life. It’s a helpless feeling…To see an organization that was helping people who aren’t as fortunate as we are…how could we not be involved?” – Lori Roth, volunteer, Spirit of Hope honoree

For 15 years, they’ve volunteered at nearly every Chrysalis Gala that Cancer Hope Network has hosted. Now, they’re being recognized as the Spirit of Hope honorees for 2019. The event will be held Saturday, November 2 at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston, NJ.

They’re Lori Roth (Prager Metis, CPAs) and Randy Cohen (Torcon, Inc.).

Randy and Lori were drawn to CHN by chance. Randy’s sister Wendy started work at CHN and recruited them to serve as volunteers at our Chrysalis Gala in 2004. Nearly two decades later, their tireless work on behalf of adults facing cancer is still creating hope for patients across the nation.

“The gala is a fantastic event that brings together so many people and so many resources to help provide for what Cancer Hope does for the whole year,” Lori says with characteristic modesty. “It’s one of the biggest fundraisers of the year and I feel like it’s the wind beneath their sails. It’s also a perfect way for me to help. Maybe I can’t do all the things that other volunteers in the organization do, but I can help them to fund their work. Randy and I are pleased to do whatever we can to make sure that all the people that are doing good can do that good.”

“Lori and Randy have been some of CHN’s staunchest supporters through the years,” says Executive Director Cynthia Gutierrez Bernstein. “Their passion for CHN and their dedication to providing support and encouragement to people facing cancer is nothing short of inspiring. We are enormously grateful for their generosity, dedication and unwavering commitment.”

That commitment was born of personal pain. “Cancer has been a big part of our life,” Lori says. “When Wendy first came to Cancer Hope and we first began volunteering, Randy’s mother was experiencing a cancer recurrence and she passed away soon after. I had lost my father 1996 to multiple myeloma when he was 61.”

Randy has successfully completed treatment and surgery for high grade upper tract urothelial carcinoma. He’s begun the process to become a CHN Support Volunteer.

What might have caused others to run from reminders of painful times has inspired Randy and Lori to marshal their time, treasure and relationships on behalf of others.

“Cancer can consume you. It takes over your life. It’s a helpless feeling,” Lori says thoughtfully. “Despite our painful losses, we always knew that we’d done everything we could for my dad and Randy’s mom. To see an organization that was helping people who aren’t as fortunate as we are….how could we not be involved?”

It’s an outlook the two share. Lori vividly remembers Randy looking at her as he was going through treatment, saying “I know that this sounds crazy but I feel lucky. I’m lucky I have you, that we have the doctors we have and thankful that we were able to lead our lives in the way we wanted to.”

“Through the years, we’ve heard the stories of so many patients who were helped by a match with a Support Volunteer,” Randy recalls. “Wanda (Diak, former Executive Director, current Support Volunteer) has always been fantastic. At last year’s gala, when Diane Bongiorno shared her own cancer journey I was just beginning mine. I knew I had a mass and had a biopsy scheduled, but hadn’t been officially diagnosed. The work the gala makes possible was even more personal, more meaningful. We were in tears.”

While in treatment, Randy discovered that he has a hereditary genetic mutation called Lynch Syndrome. Rather than bemoan his fate, he’s lept into action with the same, nurturing, giving, “how can I help others” energy that he brings to his volunteerism. Their whole family has been tested and he and Lori have become champions for awareness and testing.

“It’s not about what happens to you,” Randy says. “It’s about how you react to what happens. CHN can help make how you deal and how you react, a positive thing. You’re going through something difficult and trying to do what you can to find the positive.”

“There’s not a lot of tools in the box that can help you do that,” Lori agrees. “Cancer Hope Network helps you realize that you’re not alone, that there are other people with you. Cancer doesn’t come with instructions. People don’t even know what they need to ask for. That’s what makes spreading the word and helping people find out that they can come to CHN and get help is so very important.”

To learn more about the event, or to schedule an event with Roth and Cohen, contact Sarah Miretti Cassidy, CHN Director of External Affairs at 908.879.4039/scassidy@cancerhopenetwork.org.

Lead Singer of Five Finger Death Punch, Ivan L. Moody, Announces New Product Lines for Moody’s Medicinals, Launch Event at The Grove in Las Vegas

I am not able to eat on a normal schedule when I’m out on tour, so these products help manage my appetite, as well.

Moody’s Medicinals, a health and wellness innovator specializing in both Cannabidiol (“CBD”) and non-CBD health and wellness products launched its first trailblazing line of high-quality products in June 2019. The company is now introducing a new range of sugar-free AM and PM shots, as well as a new personal CBD diffuser pen that can be enjoyed in three formulas: Relax (made with organic blackberry and blueberry waters), Energize (made with organic grapefruit and orange waters) and Silver Bullet (made with menthol and mint with vitamin B12 and ginseng).

The official launch event for the new products will be at The Grove (4647 Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119) on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. Five Finger Death Punch will be kicking off their Fall 2019 U.S. Arena Headlining Tour with two exclusive shows in their hometown of Las Vegas on November 1 and 2 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The Moody’s Medicinals AM Shot is a refreshing Raspberry Lemonade flavor and the PM Shot is a calming Lemon Iced Tea flavor. Both shots are certified pure CBD.

Five Finger Death Punch’s world-renowned lead vocalist, Ivan L. Moody, created the company because taking CBD helped him personally manage his anxiety symptoms, PTSD, and OCD. However, he noticed a gap in the marketplace concerning the extreme amounts of additives the competitors used. He set out to deliver a variety of CBD & non-CBD health and wellness products that do not contain sugars, alcohols, and unnecessary additives.

Ivan Moody realized that Moody’s Medicinals could provide better ingredients, quality, and potency across its products. “It became important for us to continue listening and innovating based on all of the ways people have made Moody’s Medicinals a part of their lives. The AM and PM shots will not only complement the additional products I used to tame my anxiety, but they can help me start and finish the day calm and focused. I am not able to eat on a normal schedule when I’m out on tour, so these products help manage my appetite, as well,” said Ivan L. Moody, creator of Moody’s Medicinals.

All of the Moody’s Medicinals product lines are available for purchase online at MoodysMedicinals.com. The new products are available for pre-order.

The company continues to comply in full with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations as the company develops its CBD/hemp extract product lines.
