OnSeen Unveils Its LiveCare Technology Solution to Developmental Disabilities Service Providers at 2019 OPRA Fall Conference

LiveCare - Better Home Healthcare Administration and Verification

LiveCare – Transformative Technology for the Developmental Disabilities Community

“We are excited to partner with OnSeen to implement LiveCare for the Developmental Disabilities Community so we can improve the efficiency of our in-residence processes, lower our administrative costs, and improve the service delivery and experience for our Consumers.” Rich Johnson, CEO, ViaQuest

OnSeen, Inc. announced today that it is unveiling its LiveCare Technology Solution to Ohio Developmental Disabilities Providers at the 2019 OPRA Fall Conference. LiveCare is a transformative technology solution for DD Service Providers that seamlessly connects Consumers, In-Home Caregivers, Provider Supervisors and Managers, and Guardians through an affordable, easy-to-use, mobile-web platform. In doing so, LiveCare: (1) increases the efficiency and reduces the cost of in-home Caregiver admin tasks; (2) increases the mobility of DD Consumers to attend outside appointments and activities; and (3) provides electronic visit verification (“EVV”) of Caregivers at the Consumer’s residence. LiveCare supports the collective missions of OPRA, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and the Ohio DD Community by helping DD Providers improve service delivery so that individuals with developmental disabilities can lead increasingly independent, productive, and integrated lives.

LiveCare for the Ohio DD community is comprised of 3 modules: (1) Consumer Financial Account Management Module; (2) Consumer Transportation Management Module; and (3) Caregiver Appointment and Task Management Module. With these three modules, LiveCare provides real-time, 360 degree visibility and control of Consumer financial account management, Consumer transportation, and in-home Caregiver processes. OnSeen partnered with ViaQuest, a leading DD Service and Transportation Provider, to implement LiveCare to manage its in-home Consumer financial account management and Consumer transportation management processes. “Our administrative processes prior to LiveCare were mostly manual and less efficient than we wanted. At the same time, communications with and visibility to our in-residence Caregiver activities were inherently delayed and restricted,” said Rich Johnson, CEO of ViaQuest. “Given our mission to transform the way home care services are delivered, we are excited to partner with OnSeen to implement LiveCare so we can improve the efficiency of our in-residence care processes, lower our administrative costs, and improve the service delivery and experience for our Consumers.”

OnSeen is offering 2019 OPRA Fall Conference attendees a 25 percent discount on all LiveCare Fees, including its upfront implementation fees and ongoing monthly SaaS fees. Any 2019 OPRA Fall Conference Attendee who schedules an appointment with a member of the OnSeen Executive Team during the Conference is eligible for this Special Offer. “The principal objective of our LiveCare Solution is to help home healthcare providers deliver higher quality service and more positive experiences for persons with developmental disabilities.” said Mike Lanese, CEO of OnSeen. “We are thrilled to be a Platinum Sponsor of the 2019 OPRA Fall Conference and to make this Special Offer to this amazing group of Providers that deliver critical services to Ohio DD Community.”

Rotary lights up Kansas City’s Marriott Hotel and Kauffman Center to support global polio eradication on World Polio Day, October 24, 2019

Rotary members in the Kansas City region are among millions reaching out on World Polio Day to raise awareness, funds and support to end polio – a vaccine preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.

On Thursday, October 24, Rotary clubs in Kansas City will illuminate the exterior of the Marriott Hotel at 200 West 12th St, Kansas City, MO 64105, and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The Marriott Hotel will be illuminated with Rotary’s humanitarian service pledge to End Polio Now. The message will be displayed on the edifice beginning at sunset on Thursday October 24. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108, will be illuminated in red, the color of Rotary’s End Polio Now initiative. By vote of the Kanas City, Missouri, City Council, Thursday, October 24 has been declared World Polio Day in Kansas City.

”This is one day with one focus for Rotarians all over the world,” said Rotary District 6040 Governor, Marc Horner. “The End Polio Now message is Rotary’s promise to the children of the world.”

Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative 30 years ago, Rotary members have contributed $1.9 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Incidence of polio has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from about 350,000 cases a year in 125 countries in 1988 to just 33 cases in 2018. To sustain this progress, and protect all children from polio, Rotary has committed to raising US$50 million per year in support of global polio eradication efforts. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match Rotary’s commitment 2:1. Without full funding and political commitment, this paralyzing disease could return to previously polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk.

About Rotary

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.2 million members of more than 35,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work improves lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world. Hennepin County, Minnesota Partners with KVC Health Systems to Transform Its Child Welfare Approach

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minnesota’s most populous county is changing its foster care system, from a reactive child protective model to a proactive model that strengthens families.

“Child maltreatment is a problem that has multiple roots – poverty, domestic violence, mental illness and chemical addiction,” DeCubellis said. “We know that incidents of maltreatment will continue to increase unless we change our approach from reactive to proactive.”

KVC Institute Model Eases Transition from Child Protection to Child Well-being

Hennepin County is flipping its child protection system from reactive to proactive — to improve outcomes for children and families, address the system’s disparities and transform the workplace culture.

KVC’s Safe & Connected™ Consultation & Information Sharing Framework® has been instrumental in making this shift.

“It helps us look at the case from a different perspective,” said Annie Jordan, Hennepin County child protection practitioner.

Responding To a Need for Change

Hennepin County is the largest county in Minnesota, with 1.25 million residents and 274,000 children. In 2018, Hennepin County’s Child Protection Intake took 18,005 referrals. Of those, 8,873 were screened in as child protection reports and went to investigations. With a high number and volume of child protection involvement and disproportionate number of Native American and African American youth involved, transformation has never been more important.

Deputy County Administrator Jennifer DeCubellis and other leaders have identified intersecting issues that play a role in family stress and well-being. Hennepin County leaders are shifting resources to early identification, intervention and prevention – moving services upstream to help families sooner, prior to child protection involvement, with the hope of preventing trauma from ever happening.

“Child maltreatment is a problem that has multiple roots – poverty, domestic violence, mental illness and chemical addiction – in families and in our society,” DeCubellis said. “We know that incidents of maltreatment will continue to increase unless we change our approach from reactive to proactive.”

Transforming the Approach to Child Protection

Hennepin County’s Children and Family Services began a partnership with KVC Health Systems in January of 2018. KVC consultants spent the first four months getting to know Hennepin County’s structure, processes, and practitioners. Then they slowly began introducing the consultation framework in high priority areas in child protection and children’s services. By the end of summer, the Safe & Connected™ framework was implemented across all of Children and Family Services.

This evidence-backed KVC model is helping Hennepin County’s Children and Family Services transform their approach to child protection by:

Infusing critical thinking, collaboration and transparency throughout the decision-making process.

Using collaborative decision making at key points in the child protection process, from intake and screening to investigations and ongoing case management.

The Safe & Connected™ framework has also been implemented in children’s mental health, education partnerships with schools for county-involved youth, and the courts.

Using the Safe & Connected™ framework takes more time up front, however, by slowing down the process, Hennepin County is starting to see results. Practitioners are sharing knowledge, involving families sooner and using critical thinking to approach cases differently and solve problems. Together, teams of practitioners are embracing a new practice that is better serving children and families.

Shifting From “I” to “We”

Thanks to the KVC model, a multi-disciplinary review team comprised of representatives from child protection, public health, and the attorney’s office collectively decide what happens to child protection referrals. The Intake Review Teams are led by a neutral facilitator through a discussion using the Safe & Connected™ framework. Together, they agree on what avenue a referral should go down – screened out or screened in – and whether other services and supports could benefit the family.

“We are shifting it from ‘my work’ to ‘our work’ – it’s not just falling on one person’s shoulders. Now it’s on the shoulders of the entire team,” said Child Protection Intake Program Manager Michelle Seymore.

Autumn Heller, an ongoing child protection supervisor agreed: “My whole unit has appreciated the framework because they can process cases together and receive input from one another,” she said. “Practitioners are saying they don’t feel as alone. They feel validated for their hard work and decisions.”

Infusing Critical Thinking and Shared Problem Solving

Practitioners have more time for processing and problem-solving. Using the framework helps them take a step back and look at the larger picture.

“We get flooded with details…. this helps us take a more distant perspective,” said a child protection supervisor, Cassandra McClurg.

“It’s helped us have conversations about cultural differences, race, and religion…to take that into account,” said David Maghakian, child protection practitioner. “We are constantly putting on different ‘glasses’ and keeping each other in check about our biases.”

The framework allows for discussions about complicating factors and gives space for the ‘grey areas,’ which leads to more thoughtful critical thinking about a family’s situation.

Focusing on Families to Build Trust

In addition to adopting the KVC model, Hennepin County uses evidence-based practices such as Family Group Decision Making and Critical Family Response meetings to involve families sooner. These voluntary meetings bring together family members, supporters, stakeholders, and practitioners for a discussion with a neutral facilitator. Together, the group identifies resources and supports, and collectively solves problems.

“Instead of being reactionary and defensive, we are slowing down and working with families like the human beings they are,” Leah Olsson, child protection practitioner, said. By operating intentionally from trust, honesty and openness, “The communities and parents trust us more.”

Lindsay Guthrie, Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) child protection practitioner, described her experience. “I detected a lot of emotion because the family finally had the space to express their worries for mom and children in a safe space,” she said. “The mom had her own voice and talked about her concerns as well.”

“The family wanted things in the safety plan that we hadn’t even talked about. They came up with their own unique plan – they made it in a way that would work for them,” Lindsay said.

Overall, practitioners have been enthusiastic about using KVC’s Safe & Connected™ Consultation & Information Sharing Framework®. The process has helped them to slow down and work more effectively as a team, share knowledge and engage in critical thinking – and ultimately serve families better.

By flipping the system to focus on well-being and early intervention, practitioners are better equipped to prevent crisis and trauma. In the process, Hennepin County’s Children and Family Services is strengthening and supporting families and communities.

Independent Evaluation

This implementation of Safe & Connected™ is part of a developmental evaluation through NORC at the University of Chicago with two research partners, Dr. Meg Hargreaves and Dr. Erin Watson. Hennepin County and KVC Health Systems look forward to sharing the results of this independent evaluation of the child welfare transformation’s effectiveness.

Burlington Medical Develops the First-of-Its-Kind Radiation Protection Garment Exclusively for Women

Lead Apron for Women

The Princess Vest

This unique design allows the flat, protective core material to be fit much closer to the shape of the breasts and axillary area whilst giving greater comfort and protection.

THE PRINCESS VEST

Made for women, designed by women

Unisex radiation protection garments have not only been the standard choice for female providers, they were the only choice. Women in radiology had to settle for either a flat garment that places pressure on the breasts, or a loose garment that can allow harmful radiation to penetrate the sides of the breasts.

Female leaders of Burlington Medical, a product designer who worked in the fashion industry for more than 40 years, and a Registered Nurse with years of experience in interventional radiology, decided that female providers needed a specialized solution. Their creation not only minimizes radiation exposure to the breasts and axilla, but is more ergonomically sound and reduces musculoskeletal strain.

SHAPED FOR THE FEMALE BODY

Princess Vests are designed exclusively for the female form. The innovative Princess Seam creates a convex shape that molds to the breasts. By eliminating the flat, angular designs of unisex vests, Princess Vests offer greater comfort and easier movement to female providers.

PROVIDING PROTECTION WOMEN NEED

Unisex apron designs can leave the sides of the breasts and axilla exposed to scatter radiation. The contoured shape of the Princess Vest more closely fits the breasts, lymph nodes, axilla, and front neck areas, providing better radiation protection to sensitive tissue and organs.

RELIEVING MUSCULOSKELETAL STRAIN

The close, contoured fit of the Princess Vest eliminates excess overlap, shaving the overall weight of the garment. An integrated elastic band amplifies the ergonomic design allowing a more comfortable fit.

“I joined ProtecX, Burlington Medical’s UK sister facility, after working in fashion, design and fit for 40 years. I started doing some hospital visits to customers and I noticed that a lot of ladies were wearing vests but putting their hands in the armhole pouch as if it were a pocket. When I asked them why they did this, they said, ‘Nothing ever fits around our breasts so we just put our hands in there instead, to fill the gap!’ ”

“So I started considering how we could construct a seam to allow us to shape the protective material over the contours of the breasts whilst still protecting the wearer from scatter radiation through the puncture marks in the seam line.”

“The solution is both the construction and shape of the convex seam, the Princess Seam, which hugs the breast tissue, giving the advantage of better fit and protection. This unique design allows the flat, protective core material to be fit much closer to the shape of the breasts and axillary area whilst giving greater comfort and protection. It also eliminates extra material from the closure systems of unisex vests, greatly reducing the overall weight.”

Denise Johnson, Production Manager of ProtecX and inventor of the Princess Vest

50 Years Young – Zimmer MedizinSysteme Celebrates 50 Years in Business and Builds Toward the Next 50

Zimmer Celebrates 50 Years Young - Providing outstanding customer service has been a priority for us since Zimmer's early days in Germany! Here is a picture of the first official 'Zimmer Customer Service Bus'. When you saw the "Z" on the front of this VW

Zimmer Celebrates 50 Years Young – Early days, the first official ‘Zimmer Customer Service Bus’.

The company’s 50-year journey to today’s success parallels the entrepreneurial endeavors of three generations of the Zimmer family.

Zimmer USA announced that 2019 marks the 50th year in business for its German parent company, Zimmer MedizinSysteme.

The 50th anniversary celebration has been ongoing throughout this year, with parties at both the German and American headquarters. Zimmer USA published an article, looking back at the story and pictures of its evolution since 1969. Zimmer MedizinSysteme started as a manufacturer of physiotherapy devices, growing into its position today as a global leader of device manufacturing for the physiotherapy and aesthetic medicine fields.

Zimmer MedizineSysteme is a family company that began humbly, in Ulm, Germany. Later, in 1986, Zimmer MedizinSystems, an American company, was established as its US distribution arm. (The German parent company is Zimmer MedizinSysteme, while the American subsidiary is Zimmer MedizinSystems, with an “s” at the end.) Today, Zimmer USA has offices in Irvine, CA and Allentown, PA. Zimmer MedizinSysteme has expanded throughout the rest of the world, focusing on creating quality products for Aesthetics, Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine and Podiatry, with innovative Cardiology and diagnostic products complementing its range of offerings.

Around the globe, the Zimmer name is associated with its flagship Cryo devices. The company has set the gold standard for Cryotherapy and skin cooling systems, having sold over 45,000 of these all-natural cryotherapy delivery systems. The product has also significantly contributed to safer laser treatments while improving patient comfort.

Zimmer MedizinSysteme also takes its place on the world stage for its recent collaboration announcement. Zimmer has developed the new CoolTone device for Allergan plc – the leading global pharmaceutical company and manufacturer of the original Botox®. CoolTone is a non-invasive, magnetic field device for body contouring and fat reduction.

Another testament to its continued growth, Zimmer’s progressive Z Wave Q Radial Pulse Technology device has just made its debut on the medical aesthetics market. Like the rest of the Z Wave family of non-invasive devices, the Z Wave Q is FDA cleared for the temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite, the temporary increase in local blood circulation and to relieve minor muscle aches and pains. Z Wave Q may also be used as an adjunct in Cryolipolysis™ (CoolSculpting™) and other body contouring treatments for enhanced results. A new water-cooled generator enables the device to operate with a 50% softer sound than its predecessor, the acclaimed Z Wave Pro, while providing equally effective results. In fact, Zimmer touts the Z Wave Q as the “quietest shockwave device on the market”.

The company’s 50-year journey to today’s success parallels the entrepreneurial endeavors of three generations of the Zimmer family. In the early 1930’s, the seeds for the business were planted by Erich Zimmer, the grandfather of Zimmer’s current co-CEOs. In 1969, the modern incarnation of Zimmer MedizinSysteme was founded by Erich’s sons, Bernd and Peter Zimmer. In 2013, Bernd’s sons, Armin and Michael Zimmer, took the positions of co-CEOs. Additional family members are employed within the company, continuing with the business’s family-run tradition.

Today, Zimmer MedizinSysteme operates worldwide with hundreds of employees and provides a source of income for thousands. The company is a world market leader in cutting-edge medical devices and looks toward another 50 years of growth.

About Zimmer MedizinSystems

Zimmer MedizinSystems in Irvine, California, with its parent company based in Neu-Ulm, Germany, has 50 years of expertise in manufacturing high quality medical devices.
