Sunshine Coast Health Centre Announces ‘Georgia Strait’ Women-only Trauma Program to Open in November 2019

Sunshine Coast Health Centre is a best-in-class trauma treatment program for women.

We are very excited to expand our trauma treatment offerings to women through the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic.

Sunshine Coast Health Centre (https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/), a best-in-class Centre in British Columbia for trauma treatment, is proud to announce plans for a woman-focused trauma treatment program called the “Georgia Straight Women’s Clinic.” Using a non 12 step methodology, the Centre has established a reputation as a top-rated methodology to treat trauma and PTSD and has historically focused on men only. Its residential facility is located in Powell River, BC, but it has reached clients from the key cities in British Columbia such as Vancouver, Richmond, or Victoria as well as clients from other key cities in Canada such as Calgary or Edmonton. The program is now expanding to a parallel offering to be named “Georgia Straight Women’s Clinic,” and focusing on trauma treatment for women.

“We are very excited to expand our trauma treatment offerings to women through the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic,” explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. “The new women-focused program will help women with moderate to severe trauma issues in a relaxed, residential setting. Our program will be the first of its kind in Canada.”

A website for the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic is currently in development. For now, persons interested in the trauma treatment program for women should visit the website at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/ and then click on the “contact” button. Information can be requested at that point. Alternatively, persons interested in the treatment philosophy and methodology are urged to visit the information pages on Non 12 Step Methodology (https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/non-12-step/) and trauma therapy (https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/trauma-program/). These pages provide an overview to the perspective of the Centre and are a starting point for self-education. Above all, however, each individual is urged to reach out to the Centre for a consultation as no two individuals, nor their situations are exactly alike.

EXPANDING TO MEET THE NEEDS OF CANADIAN WOMEN SUFFERING FROM TRAUMA

Here is background on this release. Scheduled to launch November 2019, the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic will be the first of its kind in Canada. Currently, women with moderate to severe trauma issues have limited inpatient or residential care options. Long wait lists exist for trauma-specific care of any kind. Most residential programs are strictly trauma-informed, meaning they focus on addictions and treat trauma as a secondary symptom. In addition, most residential programs are mixed gender and are therefore unable to provide the same level of safety and support found in a women-only program.

The Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic will be the first program in Canada to offer trauma-focused care exclusively for women. An abundance of one-on-one, highly personalized care is what makes trauma-focused treatment possible. While the Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic will offer group therapy and psychoeducation, it is understood that trauma can sometimes prevent group participation, particularly in the early stages of care. That is why a heavy emphasis will be placed on emotional self-regulation, offering evidence-based therapies such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), hypnotherapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and many others.

For these reasons, Sunshine Coast Health Centre is proud to announce the Georgia Strait Women’s Program.

Workout Anytime Appoints Terri Harof New Director of Franchise Development

Terri Harof, Workout Anytime’s new Director of Franchise Development, is joining the fast-growing fitness brand following many years in both sports marketing and franchising. Harof even worked with the brand’s co-founder, John Quattrocchi, while running her own advertising agency. Harof feels her career has come full circle as an avid health and fitness enthusiast who has been teaching group fitness since her college days to her new position as the Director of Franchise Development. “I love the franchising space and I love the health club space,” said Harof. “When John approached me about the position, it felt like a great opportunity considering my passion for the industry and our professional history.”

Harof intends to use her experience to bolster the franchise expansion of the rapidly growing brand. Her hiring comes in tandem with Workout Anytime’s fortified franchising efforts and a new, limited-time offer for new franchisees. In celebration of its 20-year anniversary, Workout Anytime has reduced its franchise fee to $20,000 through the end of the year.

The brand has seen impressive franchise sales growth over the past five years and is increasing club membership numbers thanks to its all-access offering within a $31 billion fitness industry. Seventy-three percent of Workout Anytime franchisees are multi-unit owners, something that greatly appealed to Harof when she decided to join the team.

“We have 170-plus locations in 21 states, but there are so many amazing prospects for us across the country and internationally,” said Harof. “My goal is to get out there and target areas across the country that are underserved and that fit the demographic to continue our growth.”

Randy Trotter, Senior Vice President of Development, could not be more thrilled to see Harof join the Workout Anytime executive team. “Terri’s background in both fitness and marketing makes her a perfect fit for the Workout Anytime brand,” said Trotter. “It has been a thrill to watch her grow in the industry after working with John, too.”

“We’re going strong in the southeastern U.S., but I want people outside of that region to know that we’re absolutely interested in opening outside those markets if it makes sense for the brand,” Harof continued. Workout Anytime is currently looking for franchisees in target markets including Florida, southern Georgia, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado.

Workout Anytime is committed to equipping its franchisees with extensive training and support to create the best experience possible for the clientele. Harof feels that a huge benefit to franchising with Workout Anytime is that franchisees don’t have to give up their careers to run a successful business. “We have a wide variety of franchisees who are still involved in their original business and they’ve been able to diversify by opening Workout Anytime,” said Harof.

Harof feels that the supportive executive team behind Workout Anytime is what takes the franchising experience above and beyond that of competitors. “Our franchisees are awesome; they’re passionate and incredibly knowledgeable. They love what they do and it’s so apparent thanks to the amazing corporate team behind it all,” Harof said. “The energy here is great. Our franchisees feel it and love it.“

“I’m so happy to be here,” said Harof. “This is an industry I love and the people I’m working with are incredible.”

ABOUT VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY

Venous insufficiency, the cause of significant suffering due to the sequelae of venous hypertension, most commonly arises as achy, tired, and heavy legs. It may or may not be associated with varicose veins, spider veins, or skin changes including venous ulcerations and indiscriminately affects between 30–40 million Americans. Numerous factors including age, weight, prolonged sitting or standing, genetics, or a history of DVT (blood clots) can increase the risk of developing this common and often underdiagnosed disorder. Treatment options have evolved to an array of minimally invasive procedures in an office setting.

Pear Sports Partners with LIVMOR to Provide Remote Digital Fitness & Wellness Coaching for Veterans with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

News Image

“It is very rewarding to partner with a medical technology company like LIVMOR to provide digital wellness coaching solutions that will assist physicians and medical professionals in addressing chronic cardiovascular illness,” said Bob Allison, Founder of PEAR Sports.

PEAR Sports, creators of the PEAR Health & Fitness Platform that delivers targeted smart coaching technology, today announced it has partnered with LIVMOR to develop digital fitness and wellness training programs that produce better outcomes and experiences for those suffering from Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). LIVMOR, makers of the Halo+ Powered by Samsung medical-grade remote monitoring device, develops proprietary software solutions for wearable devices that continuously monitor the health and wellness of patients with chronic conditions. Together, LIVMOR and PEAR Sports will participate in a pilot study at the Dallas VA to serve Veterans with PAD.

According to the CDC, PAD affects about 8.5 million Americans, including 12-20% of individuals older than age 60. PAD also raises the odds of more severe health problems, like coronary artery disease, heart attack and stroke. A heart-healthy lifestyle, including exercise, diet and stress reduction has been shown to reduce the risks of heart disease and PAD.

“Fortunately, symptoms of PAD can be reduced and even eliminated with diet and exercise,” reports Ken Persen, Founder & CEO of LIVMOR. “This is the goal of the joint LIVMOR and PEAR Sports pilot study — to interpret patient data, create personalized, actionable health coaching exercises, and send them directly to the Veterans to help reduce their symptoms and increase their overall quality of life. We are working together with the goal of delivering specific video and audio instructions directly to patients on their prescribed Halo+ tablet.” Ken added, “This is a great opportunity to use tele-health to extend the services provided to the Veteran population.”

The LIVMOR Coaching Platform Powered by Pear will be part of the prescriptive LIVMOR Halo+ program, currently in clinical trials, that provides an elegant turnkey solution for continuous remote monitoring of PAD patients. The LIVMOR solution uses the first prescription-only smartwatch for accurate remote monitoring of heart rate, heart rate variability and activity. This new digital coaching platform will deliver proactive wellness and exercise instructions targeted to improve patient results. The objectives of the pilot study, which is being performed in concert with the Dallas VA, are to monitor Veterans with PAD, and then provide custom and relevant fitness programs to reduce their symptoms and help them become healthier through proven exercise and wellness training.

“It is very rewarding to partner with a medical technology company like LIVMOR to provide digital wellness coaching solutions that will assist physicians and medical professionals in addressing chronic cardiovascular illness,” said Bob Allison, Founder of PEAR Sports. “We are particularly enthusiastic to work with LIVMOR to deliver engaging and effective exercise content to our Veteran population through the pilot study at the Dallas VA. We know the symptoms of cardiovascular disease can be alleviated with appropriate exercise and wellness programs, and we look forward to improving the wellness journey for Veterans suffering from PAD.”

Highmark’s Outcomes-Based Contract for SYMBICORT® Improves Patient Outcomes for Asthma, COPD

“As Highmark furthers its leadership in value-based strategies, results like these are proof that a shared commitment to identifying the right medicine and approach in a priority therapy area can improve patient outcomes.”–Sarah Marchè, senior VP of pharmacy services, Highmark

Highmark today announced that its outcomes-based contract with AstraZeneca for the respiratory medicine SYMBICORT® demonstrated positive results in improving patient outcomes for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Under outcomes-based contracts, drug companies are accountable for the clinical effectiveness of medications and the per-member, per-month medical and pharmacy costs for members who use the drug compared to the costs for members who use other drugs to treat their health condition. The goal is to ensure that Highmark members have access to the most clinically effective, cost-efficient medications possible.

Highmark initially announced its outcomes-based contract with AstraZeneca for SYMBICORT in April of 2018. SYMBICORT, approved for the treatment of asthma and COPD, helps decrease inflammation and open up the airways in patients’ lungs. As part of the contract, Highmark reviewed specific pharmacy and medical criteria to determine if asthma or COPD-related symptoms for Highmark patients on SYMBICORT were in-line with the clinical trial results provided by AstraZeneca.

Highmark found that the number of patients taking SYMBICORT who saw a worsening of symptoms requiring them to visit a health care provider or hospital were substantially lower than expected. Among Highmark members on SYMBICORT with a primary diagnosis of asthma or COPD, more than half experienced a stabilization or improvement of their symptoms.

Highmark and AstraZeneca’s contract for SYMBICORT was one of the first outcomes-based agreements involving asthma and COPD. The contract applied to Highmark’s commercial members in its national health insurance markets and its core health insurance markets in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware. Slightly more than 30,000 SYMBICORT prescriptions were filled for Highmark commercial members in 2018.

Highmark has also forged outcomes-based contracts for the treatment of several other high-cost, chronic health conditions, including diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease.

“Outcomes-based agreements like this show the value of medicines like SYMBICORT to both patients and the health system in reducing exacerbations, hospitalizations and inpatient visits,” says Sarah Marchè, senior VP of pharmacy services for Highmark. “As Highmark furthers its leadership in value-based strategies, results like these are proof that a shared commitment to identifying the right medicine and approach in a priority therapy area can improve patient outcomes.”
