Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Shows Untapped Potential to Treat Depression, Survey Finds

Achieve TMS

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment has great potential to help people suffering from depression, but they need to be better informed of its many benefits, according to a new survey commissioned by Achieve TMS, a leading TMS provider in the United States.

The online survey canvassed about 300 adults with depression in California, Oregon and Alaska on their feelings about depression treatments. Those treatments included medication and therapy, as well as TMS, which is an FDA-approved, MRI-guided neuro-navigation system that sends magnetic pulses to the brain to stimulate neural activity and relieve symptoms of depression, OCD and other conditions. In regards to TMS, the survey found:

  • 65% of the people surveyed had not heard about TMS treatment for depression.
  • 73.9% of respondents had not heard of the benefits of TMS.
  • 10.8% of people surveyed were “very confident” that TMS is a viable treatment option for medically resistant depression, while another 15.3% said they were “confident” in the treatment.
  • 21.2% of people believed TMS treatment methods are backed by solid research.

“What this survey tells us is that there are many people who should be taking advantage of TMS, but are missing out because they don’t know about this transformative treatment for depression,” says Dr. Rick Christie, CEO of Achieve TMS. “In addition, there is also some misinformation about TMS that may be holding people back from treatment. For instance, 65% of people surveyed believed TMS isn’t covered by insurance and another 30% were worried about treatment costs. At Achieve TMS, we work with most of the major insurance providers and offer financial payment plans to make this treatment available to as many people as possible. When people in the survey got more information about TMS, they generally believed that TMS treatment is safe with minimal side effects and risks—that is the message we need to promote so more and more people suffering from depression can experience a better quality of life.”

About Achieve TMS

Achieve TMS is a leading and highly trusted provider of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), approved in 2013 by the Food and Drug Administration for treating patients with depression. For more information, visit https://achievetms.com/.

OakLeaf Wellness + Health Partners with Vitalibis to Distribute Full-Spectrum CBD Wellness Products

CBD Wellness Partner

OakLeaf Wellness Professionals Program

“We are excited to work with the OakLeaf team to put quality wellness products into the hands of many patients,” says Steve Raack, CEO of Vitalibis. “Supporting medical professionals and their patients is a strategic pillar for Vitalibis and we are thrilled to be executing these plans with OakLeaf.”

OakLeaf Wellness + Health announces their recent exclusive partnership with Vitalibis, promoting and distributing their high-quality CBD oils and creams to wellness professionals around the country. Beginning with their flagship, Tolk Chiropractic and Wellness Center, OakLeaf is facilitating all aspects of the distribution process, from developing digital marketing assets to providing attractive counter-top displays, and training.

“We are excited to work with the OakLeaf team to put quality wellness products into the hands of many patients,” says Steve Raack, CEO of Vitalibis. “Our companies align very well in many ways and we are grateful for our alliance. Supporting medical professionals and their patients is a strategic pillar for Vitalibis and we are thrilled to be executing these plans with OakLeaf.”

Tolk Wellness Center is the flagship wellness practice for OakLeaf Wellness + Health and was founded 40 years ago by Dr. L. Andrew Tolk, former chiropractor for the NHL Whalers. After only three months of selling Vitalibis products, Tolk Wellness Center has seen a significant increase in revenue and, most importantly, their patients are finding true wellness relief with Vitalibis’ oils and creams.

OakLeaf Wellness + Health now looks to replicate the improved patient-experience, services and products for other practices in need.

“Our goal has always been, and always will be, to improve our society’s healthcare habits by elevating holistic wellness practices and promoting the most effective natural products on the market. We spend a considerable amount of time evaluating high quality products and are proud to partner with the likes of Vitalibis,” says Adam Tolk, Managing Partner of OakLeaf Wellness + Health. “Above all, we understand that health education coupled with best-in-industry products are necessary to promote a sustainable and proactive approach to health maintenance.”

While CBD is a hot topic in the wellness world, many people are still confused about what it is and how it can improve their health. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Because of its association with marijuana, it is often mistaken for having psychoactive effects. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the second main compound found in cannabis, CBD does not induce any mind-altering, psychoactive effects. Instead, it promotes a feeling of wellness in the patient that allows their body to rest and recover without a sedative effect.

Depending on the strain and blend, CBD oils can help boost focus, calm the mind or relieve anxiety to name just a few of the wellness effects. However, not all CBD products are made the same, with many being produced in mass quantities using cheaper methods. Vitalibis, on the other hand, prides itself in its sustainable practices that result in high quality products.

“When it comes to CBD brands, Vitalibis is the cream of the crop,” says Dr. David Tolk, Medical Director of OakLeaf Wellness + Health. “I have so much respect for their company values as well as the level of care they put into all of their products. Every level of their sourcing process is done the right way, for both our patients and the planet. Best of all, they are one of the few CBD companies that I have seen to offer limited liability insurance, protecting both the patient and practitioners..”

The way Vitalibis extracts their oil is their major difference. Where it’s common for brands to extract oil using harsh solvents and CO2, Vitalibis uses pressure coupled with precise bursts of heat. This patent-pending extraction process produces a terpene rich, full spectrum oil containing many beneficial elements. As a result, their oil does not need additional flavoring to taste better.

In addition, Vitalibis only sources their CBD oils from heavily-vetted and environmentally responsible farms in Colorado, USA. Vitalibis maintains strong relationships with all aspects of the supply chain to ensure that only the cleanest and purest oils are being used in the products. In addition, Vitalibis collaborates with independent 3rd-party testers to validate the product’s potency, safety and efficacy.

PMB wins big with three 2019 HREI Awards™ for medical developments in Arizona and California

News Image

One of PMB’s 2019 award winners was the 1100 Van Ness MOB in San Francisco.

We’re proud of the PMB team, which exhibited a great deal of creativity and determination to overcome a number of obstacles and deliver these much-needed medical facilities to their respective communities.

PMB was the big winner this year, becoming the first organization to have three winning healthcare real estate (HRE) development projects in a single year in the prestigious, national HREI Insights Awards™ program.

The PMB winners were: 1100 Van Ness, San Francisco, in the Best Medical Office Building (MOB) 100,000 or more square-foot category; Clinicas de Salud El Centro Health Center, El Centro, Calif., in the Best MOB 25,000-49,999 square-foot category; and Goodyear Medical Plaza, Goodyear, Ariz., in the Best Renovated or Repurposed Healthcare Facility category.

The annual awards, the first exclusively dedicated to recognizing excellence in the areas of HRE development and executive leadership, are presented by Healthcare Real Estate Insights™ (HREI) magazine, a national digital and print magazine that covers HRE development, financing and investment. The awards were presented in nine categories during the GlobeSt Healthcare Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., Dec. 4.

“We are thrilled that the three healthcare development projects PMB entered in this year’s HREI awards were selected winners,” says Mark D. Toothacre, President of PMB. “We’re proud of the PMB team, which exhibited a great deal of creativity and determination to overcome a number of obstacles and deliver these much-needed medical facilities to their respective communities. These three awards are a great honor and a testament to our team’s hard work.”

The 250,000-square-foot, nine-story 1100 Van Ness facility is the first new multitenant MOB constructed since the 1980s in the highly competitive and regulated real estate market in San Francisco. The building is in a prime central location across the street from the new 274-bed California Pacific Medical Center and affords easy access to major San Francisco neighborhoods. The facility has enabled Sutter Health to better serve the growing population and comply with new California seismic building codes. The MOB and Sutter’s new master plan are allowing the health system and other private practices in the facility to consolidate multiple offices and services, which is decreasing their overall footprint and increasing practice and delivery efficiencies.

Murray Wolf, Publisher of HREI magazine, said the HREI Awards judges had a number of positive comments about PMB’s three winning entries, especially the 1100 Van Ness project. “One of the judges said that 1100 Van Ness was the most complicated project of this year’s competition,” says Mr. Wolf. “Another judge said, ‘A once-in-a-career project in terms of scope, complexity, size and quality. An epic development process and schedule in a great American city. This one has got to be the hands-down winner!’”

The new 45,000-square-foot Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo El Centro Health Center (Clinicas) was needed to expand healthcare services and access for the medically underserved, low-income community of El Centro, Calif., and the greater Imperial Valley. The new clinic also provides a much needed location for local students to complete their medical training/internship programs. PMB arranged for Federal New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) to help finance the new MOB with 100 percent of the NMTC benefit going to Clinicas. The new MOB is enabling Clinicas to launch new services, including pharmacy, dental and ophthalmology, create 152 new permanent jobs and increase patient capacity by 85 percent.

One HREI Awards judge said of the Clinicas project, “Kudos for delivering such a nice project to an underserved rural area.” Another judge echoed that sentiment: “Love the concept of using New Market Tax Credits and building in underserved areas.”

The Goodyear Medical Plaza in Goodyear, Ariz., was a challenging adaptive reuse project in which PMB converted the outdated, 1980s former Harkins Palm Valley movie theater into a modern, state-of-the-art medical facility. The new 50,000-square-foot MOB is allowing Abrazo Medical Group, an employed physician group for Phoenix-based Abrazo Community Health Network, to expand in the marketplace and serve the rapidly growing population. It also is enabling the physician group to provide additional office space for its newly recruited physicians. PMB brought the repurposed facility to market approximately 50 percent faster than a traditional ground-up construction project, allowing Abrazo to expeditiously reduce its physician shortage in the market.

The HREI judges were equally complementary about the Goodyear Medical Plaza. One noted, “Great reuse of a unique building.”

PMB-developed projects have been named finalists a total of 11 times and winners seven times in the seven years of the HREI awards.

The #1 reason people won’t return to a fitness class is a sub-par playlist, according to this music tech company

According to the consumers surveyed, the quality of the workout playlist is more important than the quality of the instructor, the time or location, or even the total cost of the class.

Today Feed.fm, the technology platform that makes it easy for brands to seamlessly harness the power of music, share the results of a survey of 1,000 Americans about what moves them when they work out.

The surprising results? The music that moves us can also keep us from coming back to a gym or group fitness class. According to the consumers surveyed, the quality of the workout playlist is more important than the quality of the instructor, the time or location, or even the total cost of the class.

“With boutique fitness locations charging upwards of $30 a class, it’s surprising that people wouldn’t return just because they don’t like the music, but it speaks to how important a great soundtrack is to the quality of a workout,” said Feed.fm COO Lauren Pufpaf. “People would rather eat the cost of an expensive class than suffer through a playlist that clashes with their taste.”

Survey respondents nearly unanimously reported that listening to music had a positive impact on the frequency, quality and intensity of their workouts:

  • 66% said that they’d skip a workout altogether if they couldn’t listen to music;
  • 93% said that music moderately or majorly impacts the quality and intensity of their workout;
  • And 88% agreed that listening to the right mix of music improves their physical performance.

The top 10 artists powering their playlists include an eclectic mix of country (Luke Bryan), hip-hop (Eminem, Drake, Tupac), rock (AC/DC) and pop (Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Rihanna). 62% said that there was no such thing as a guilty pleasure when it came to their workout playlists – just great songs.

In the age of specialty gyms and boutique fitness, what is perhaps more surprising is that ¾ of respondents reported that they primarily workout at home, and ⅔ reported using health and fitness apps to guide their workouts. The most popular workouts? Half of survey respondents run, closely followed by weight lifting, with yoga and cycling tied for the third most popular exercise format.

“For fitness brands, whether they’re building studios or digital experiences (or both!), these survey results show they need to be investing in a second-to-none music experience to keep members engaged,” said Pufpaf. “These results echo scientific research and direct customer feedback that directly ties how frequently and intensely we work out with the music we listen to.”

Feed.fm creates easy-to-integrate, uniquely curated music stations that power 40+ of the most popular at-home health and fitness platforms has seen similar results in their own customer data. According to the company, by baking curated music stations into the fabric of their client’s apps, 79% of their customers double their 90-day subscriber retention rate. Other key metrics, including frequency of use, length of session times, and conversion from trial to paid all see huge improvements ranging from 50% – 1,000%.

About Feed.fm

Feed.fm is a technology platform that makes it easy for brands to legally and seamlessly harness the power of music to engage and retain their customers. Feed.fm’s team handles the licensing and technical integration of curated music stations to help brands increase key growth and customer retention metrics. Senior Living Professionals Reveal Trends Impacting the Future of Operations

Dude Solutions logo

“As indicated by survey responses, the needs of residents, operational processes and tools for planning have changed in the world of senior living operations, but one thing remains certain: Leveraging technology is key to a strong future.”

Dude Solutions, the leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider of operations management solutions, today released their 2019 Senior Living Operations Report, a collection of unique data and survey results providing insight on the trends affecting the future of operations at senior living facilities.

In a market expected to triple in size by 2040, the chief concerns going in to 2020 include workforce shortage, compliance and resident service, while 97% of respondents agree that consumer demands and expectations are increasing. Two-thirds of the surveyed organizations are concerned about facilities failure, yet 30% do not have a capital plan that looks out beyond five years.

Almost half of respondents reported they lack well-documented policies and procedures for their maintenance activities but agree that technology is crucial to their operations. For example, organizations are harnessing facilities-related data for benchmarking by measuring staffing, response time and maintenance cost and rely on software to stay on top of safety inspections and compliance regulations.

The Senior Living Operations Report is a compilation of data collected from over 300 operations leaders and executives at skilled nursing, memory care, CCRC/LPC, senior living and independent living institutions ranging from 1-26+ locations in size. Survey questions focused on the factors impacting today’s operations, including market dynamics, how organizations are differentiating themselves to stay competitive, employee turnover, harnessing data and technology for decision-making, and capital planning.

“As indicated by survey responses, the needs of residents, operational processes and tools for planning have changed in the world of senior living operations, but one thing remains certain: Leveraging technology is key to a strong future,” said Josh Malbogat, director of senior living at Dude Solutions. “With tools like software to track and manage record-keeping, staffing, planning and using data, senior living operators can take their current challenges and turn them into opportunities for growth.”

Key Insights from the 2019 Senior Living Operations Report include:

Middle Market

Addressing the rapidly growing middle market, residents or future residents who fall in the middle of the income spectrum, is a big concern for leaders. Fifty-two percent of respondents offer a product to this consumer today, while 27% are interested in addressing this market segment.

Human Capital & the Changing Workforce

Staffing, turnover, communication and scheduling is the second-most important concern for communities today, but 41% of surveyed organizations do not have a succession plan in place for facilities managers. Respondents ranked resident satisfaction (92%) and compliance (84%) as the top areas of impact for the facilities team.

Technology & Data

The need for technology and data information collection is growing in impact of daily decision-making. Benchmarking data is used with staffing, response time and maintenance costs with over 53% of organizations using it to reduce energy and utility costs.

Safety & Quality

Safety inspections are conducted on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis at 94% of the surveyed organizations. When it comes to quality audits, 86% of respondents indicate they are completed, but at intervals varying from monthly to bi-annually.

Capital Planning

Three-quarters of respondents are concerned about potential risks associated with resident safety, aging facilities and facilities failures. The Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer are most often responsible for creating the capital plan, however, Regional Directors and Facilities Managers are occasionally tasked with this function.
