Mercy Medical Center Receives CMS’ 5-Star Overall Hospital Rating

Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland

Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland

“Achieving the 5-Star rating underscores Mercy’s commitment to consistently providing quality health care services to our patients in a caring, compassionate environment.” — Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.

Mercy Medical Center has received a 5-Star Overall Hospital Rating, the highest possible, from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for quality of care. Mercy is among the top hospitals in the nation to achieve the highest quality rating for their stellar care.

“Achieving the 5-Star rating underscores Mercy’s commitment to consistently providing quality health care services to our patients in a caring, compassionate environment. This achievement was only possible due to the hard work and dedication of our physicians, nurses, staff and quality team,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.

CMS updated its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for 2020, assigning ratings of one to five stars to more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide based on their performance across seven areas of quality. Of the 4,500+ hospitals ranked, 407 received a 5-star rating, including Mercy Medical Center.

Publicly reported on the Medicare.gov website, the Overall Hospital Rating is based on performance on several dozen inpatient and outpatient quality measures that are grouped into seven categories, including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care, and efficient use of medical imaging. The overall hospital rating is calculated using a summary score from these categories.

Founded in 1874 by The Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Medical Center is a 183-licensed bed acute care teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Maryland School Of Medicine. Located in the heart of downtown Baltimore, Mercy Medical Center provides a broad range of primary and secondary acute care services, as well as a preferred tertiary referral center in certain select specialties. Mercy has been recognized as a top Maryland hospital by U.S. News & World Report; a Top 100 hospital for Women’s Health & Orthopedics by Healthgrades; and is currently A-rated for Hospital Safety by the Leapfrog Group. RXNT Inc. is starting the new year with the release of multiple product upgrades designed to more actively engage patients in their health, and improve efficiency for healthcare practitioners. Patients will have access to consent forms that can be signed and submitted electronically before their appointment. Consent forms will also be available at other times, such as during patient check-in from the patient profile screen in RXNT’s Electronic Health Record system and the appointment scheduler feature. Functionality that is not changing with these upgrades is a patient’s ability to pay bills online and view lab and test results.

Facial recognition and unlock is now available for RXNT’s iOS (Apple) applications for devices that offer this feature. Touch recognition via fingerprint identification is available for both iOS and Android devices. Facial recognition (iOS only) and touch recognition (iOS and Android) are available for all RXNT apps, except the Hospice app.

Spiritual or Physical” tackles the mental issue of panic attacks and how it impacts one’s faith in God.

News Image

“When Panic Attacks Your Faith: Spiritual or Physical”: a perspicacious read on panic attacks in both personal and spiritual lives that shape one’s perception of life and devotion to the Lord. “When Panic Attacks Your Faith: Spiritual or Physical” is the creation of published author A. T. Sharpe, a loving family man, a devoted follower of God, and a former US Army Veteran.

Sharpe shares, “The church deals with a lot of issues on a spiritual level, and I believe as a Christian we need the Spirit of God to help us with all of the problems we face each day. There are thousands of Christians who suffer from mental illness such as panic attacks every day, but this issue is not a topic the church or most Christians are willing to talk about due to the stigma associated with mental illness. Panic attacks are real and can be debilitating to those who suffer daily. How do we deal with this issue? Is it spiritual or is it physical? What do we do when panic attacks our faith?

“I remember when I experienced my first panic attack, and I didn’t have any idea what was going on with me at the time. Not long after, I began to experience these debilitating attacks four or five times a day, and my life began to spiral out of control. There were days I couldn’t get to work without an attack or get through my college classes without an attack. As a believer, my faith was being tested and I needed to be free of these attacks and get my life back but what do I do? Do I seek spiritual help or mental health help? I believe God can heal any sickness or disease and I believe he can do it in more than one way.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, A. T. Sharpe’s new book hopes to shatter the stigma against people suffering from mental illness and inspire in them a compassionate understanding of how this illness affects them and those around them.

Describing moments of the attacks, the author relates his experiences to how the Christian faith works so readers can prepare themselves to cope with tests that hamper their spiritual growth and wellness.
