“Yes, misinformation and disinformation were around during the Spanish Flu. The difference with COVID-19 is that we are living in an era when exponential technologies have revolutionized the speed, distance and anonymity with which all information can travel.”—Radia Funna, founder, Build n Blaze

As the COVID-19 pandemic takes away lives and livelihoods, it has also opened up a new frontier of misinformation and disinformation that threatens to cause irreparable harm to us and our efforts to stop it. The organizational strategy firm Build n Blaze recently launched #Normal4Now on Build n Blaze TV, a social media campaign to address the reality of COVID-19 in all our lives by sharing facts and busting myths daily @BuildnBlaze or @BuildnBlazeTV on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

The campaign’s primary goal is to tackle misinformation and disinformation by providing neutral and easy to digest information on topics including the symptoms and spread of COVID-19 or how to stay healthy and fit when facing stay-at-home restrictions. For instance, as disinformation about masks fuel an unexpected cultural divide; the program recently spent a week focusing on simple facts about masks: when and how to wear them.

“Less than a year after we launched it as an experiment to bring the youth and those I often refer to as the “unusual suspects” to the world’s most important gathering of global leaders, the United Nations General Assembly; COVID-19 has brought into sharp focus just how much value Build n Blaze TV can continue to provide by democratizing information that shape humanity’s most important priorities.”—Radia Funna, founder, Build n Blaze

Discovery Health Partners does it again, making the Inc. 5000 list for the seventh year in a row

[ad_1]

“Making the Inc. 5000 list for seven consecutive years really puts Discovery in rare air.”

Discovery Health Partners today announced that the company has been named to the annual Inc. 5000 list for the seventh year in a row. Discovery’s three-year revenue growth was enough to bump the company’s ranking to position number 4008 on this prestigious list of the nation’s fastest-growing private businesses.

According to Inc., only a very small fraction of the companies that apply for the list makes the list more than once, and only 1.26 percent of those companies have made the list seven times.

“Making the Inc. 5000 list for seven consecutive years really puts Discovery in rare air,” said Discovery Health Partners CEO Jason Brown. “This is a direct result of the investments we’ve made in new solutions and analytics and a true testament to the incredible work our employees do every day to deliver profound client value. I’m very proud of our team and so happy to have their hard work recognized.”

“We’re very pleased with Discovery’s sustained, positive trajectory and the company’s ability to stay focused on client-centric growth and results. Earning the Inc. 5000 award for a seventh time puts an exclamation point on the fine work the Discovery team is doing,” commented Steve Unterberger, Carrick Capital Partners Managing Director and a member of the Discovery Board of Directors.

Quality Reviews and SPH Analytics Partner to Offer One Integrated Platform for Real-time Patient Experience and Hospital CAHPS Feedback

[ad_1]

Quality Reviews and SPH Analytics Partner to Bring Integrated Platform for Real-Time Patient Experience and HCAHPS Feedback

Quality Reviews and SPH Analytics Partner to Bring Integrated Platform for Real-Time Patient Experience and HCAHPS Feedback

We are excited to work with SPH Analytics to provide the power of real-time patient experience tracking and the ability to administer CMS-regulated Hospital CAHPS surveys on one convenient, integrated, and secure platform.

Quality Reviews, Inc., the leading real-time patient feedback company, today announced a partnership with SPH Analytics, the leader in healthcare quality and experience analytics, to give health systems the ability to track and analyze patient experience on a real-time, digital platform while also fulfilling their CMS-mandated Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) and other provider CAHPS survey obligations.

“We are excited to work with SPH Analytics to provide the power of real-time patient experience tracking and the ability to administer CMS-regulated Hospital CAHPS surveys on one convenient, integrated, and secure platform,” said Edward Shin, MD, CEO and Co-founder of Quality Reviews. “We look forward to bringing SPH Analytics’ portfolio of top-ranked population health and CAHPS solutions to health systems and hospitals focused on optimal patient experience,” he added.

As more health systems focus on the need for real-time, actionable patient feedback to enable service recovery and keep a finger on the pulse of patient sentiment, the Quality Reviews – SPH Partnership gives these forward-looking health systems the ability to view and act on real-time feedback alongside their HCAHPS data.

“While performance as measured by HCAHPS continues to be key to provider reimbursement and providers’ strategy to drive their patient satisfaction, there is an inherent delay between the patient’s actual experience and capturing feedback via the Hospital CAHPS program. As health systems increase their focus on performance improvement, real-time experience tracking becomes a valuable supplemental strategy for them,” said Amy Amick, President and CEO of SPH Analytics. “The needs of our health system clients are evolving, related to understanding patient sentiments during the pandemic and beyond, and we look forward to innovating with Quality Reviews to take patient experience to the next level,” she added.

CAHPS® is a registered trademark of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

NeoTract Designates Dr. Jerry Yuan as UroLift® Center of Excellence

[ad_1]

News Image

“Dr. Jerry Yuan has earned the UroLift Center of Excellence designation for his dedication to improving the lives of men who previously suffered from BPH symptoms and delivering superior patient outcomes with the UroLift System treatment,” said Dave Amerson

NeoTract, a wholly owned subsidiary of Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX) focused on addressing unmet needs in the field of urology, today announced that Jerry Yuan, M.D., Georgia Urology in Johns Creek, GA, has been designated as a UroLift® Center of Excellence. The designation recognizes that Dr. Yuan has achieved a high level of training and experience with the UroLift® System and demonstrated a commitment to exemplary care for men suffering from symptoms associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate.

Recommended for the treatment of BPH in both the American Urological Association and European Association of Urology clinical guidelines, the FDA-cleared Prostatic Urethral Lift procedure using the UroLift System is a proven, minimally invasive technology for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to BPH. The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue.

The UroLift Center of Excellence program is designed to highlight urologists who are committed to educating their patients on BPH and the UroLift System as a treatment option and consistently seek to deliver excellent patient outcomes and experiences.

“Dr. Jerry Yuan has earned the UroLift Center of Excellence designation for his dedication to improving the lives of men who previously suffered from BPH symptoms and delivering superior patient outcomes with the UroLift System treatment,” said Dave Amerson, president of the Teleflex Interventional Urology business unit.

Over 40 million men in the United States are affected by BPH, a condition that occurs when the prostate gland that surrounds the male urethra becomes enlarged with advancing age and begins to obstruct the urinary system. Symptoms of BPH often include interrupted sleep and urinary problems and can cause loss of productivity, depression and decreased quality of life.

Medication is often the first-line therapy for enlarged prostate, but relief can be inadequate and temporary. Side effects of medication treatment can include sexual dysfunction, dizziness and headaches, prompting many patients to quit using the drugs. For these patients, the classic alternative is surgery that cuts, heats or removes prostate tissue to open the blocked urethra. While current surgical options can be very effective in relieving symptoms, they can also leave patients with permanent side effects such as urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and retrograde ejaculation.

About the UroLift® System

The FDA-cleared UroLift System is a proven, minimally invasive technology for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a minimally invasive transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue. Clinical data from a pivotal 206-patient randomized controlled study showed that patients with enlarged prostate receiving UroLift implants reported rapid and durable symptomatic and urinary flow rate improvement without compromising sexual function*1,2. Patients also experienced a significant improvement in quality of life. Over 100,000 men have been treated with the UroLift System in the U.S. Most common adverse events reported include hematuria, dysuria, micturition urgency, pelvic pain, and urge incontinence. Most symptoms were mild to moderate in severity and resolved within two to four weeks after the procedure. The Prostatic Urethral Lift procedure using the UroLift System is recommended for the treatment of BPH in both the American Urological Association and European Association of Urology clinical guidelines. The UroLift System is available in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico and South Korea. Learn more at http://www.UroLift.com.

HashCash’s Blockchain Network to Curate COVID Patient Records Across the USA

[ad_1]

COVID patient records blockchain

COVID patient records blockchain

The leading blockchain development company, HashCash Consultants is extending its proficiency in decentralized technology by aiding hospitals and healthcare organizations across the USA. The company is leveraging its blockchain network HC Net to record and curate medical data of COVID patients over a distributed and interoperable network. The project will ensure the security and accessibility of medical records across the network for a streamlined healthcare system while allowing patients to maintain the privacy of their data.

“In the wake of the pandemic, the lack of interoperability of medical records, and robust digital architecture to curate essential patient data has emerged as one of the major drawbacks within the existing system. HashCash is working with multiple healthcare organizations to streamline the process and create a unified infrastructure with blockchain to mitigate the existing issues and build a futuristic system to avoid repeating the same,” commented Raj Chowdhury, CEO, HashCash Consultants

Most of the healthcare organizations are still managing their operations through outdated and siloed infrastructure that complicates the diagnosis process, making it time-consuming. The use of a centralized database for storing patient records and medical data poses the risk of a single point of failure, identity thefts, financial frauds, and likewise. The centralized architecture leads to a lack of medical interoperability across multiple healthcare organizations, a problem that has majorly affected the COVID-19 response across the country.

HashCash’s Blockchain Solution to Streamline Patient Record Keeping:

HashCash’s scalable blockchain services and products address the healthcare woes directly, offering sustainable and futuristic solutions benefitting both the organizations and the patients. With their new health care venture, the company plans to create a decentralized and distributed architecture, which will process, authenticate, store, and mine medical records and data for future reference. Initially, they intend to apply the process to curate COVID patient records. But, later on, it will be extended to the overall medical record and patient management system.

The entire infrastructure will be built leveraging the scalability of HC Net, collaborating with multiple hospitals and healthcare organizations across the US. All essential data will be collected, and patient records will be authenticated with blockchain digital identity by individual organizations. It will be stored on the distributed network for other participants to access the relevant data easily and quickly whenever needed in case of referrals or case studies. The use of cryptographic encryption will ensure the security and privacy of the information. The immutability of blockchain will make sure that the information, once recorded, cannot be tampered with. For any change in data, a new entry will have to be made in the ledger.

While the organizations will have the public key for access, patients will be provided with a private key so that they have absolute control over their medical records and that it cannot be used unfairly. In the later stage of the project, HashCash will also help in data mining of the medical records of COVID patients to continue research on the disease. The participants within the network will be able to access the records and refer to the same for clinical trials as well.

Mercy Medical Center Recognized as 5-Star Recipient for Gynecologic Procedures and Vaginal Delivery for 3rd Consecutive Year

[ad_1]

Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, MD

Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore, MD

“This designation by Healthgrades is further evidence of Mercy’s reputation for providing quality women’s health care in a compassionate setting,” said Dr. David Maine, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.

Mercy Medical Center today announced that it is a 5-star recipient for both gynecologic procedures and for vaginal delivery for 3 years in a row (2018-2020) as recognized by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems. The 5-star rating indicates that Mercy’s clinical outcomes in both categories are statistically significantly better than expected.

“Mercy Medical Center has a long established, national reputation for being a leader in women’s health. Mercy recently celebrated the 25th year of our acclaimed Weinberg Center for Women’s Health and Medicine. This designation by Healthgrades is further evidence of Mercy’s reputation for providing quality women’s health care in a compassionate setting,” said Dr. David Maine, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.

“Hospital quality should be top of mind for consumers when they evaluate and compare hospital performance,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Women who select a hospital with a 5-star rating can feel confident in their choice knowing that these organizations are committed to providing exceptional women’s care to their patients.”

Healthgrades analyzed all-payer state data for 16 states for years 2016 through 2018. Healthgrades found that there is a significant variation in hospital quality between those that have received 5-stars and those that have not.

For example, from 2016 through 2018, women having a gynecologic procedure in hospitals rated 5-stars have, on average, a 66.5% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals rated 1-star*. Similarly, women having a vaginal delivery in hospitals rated 5-stars in this same timeframe have, on average, a 43.6% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals rated 1-star*.

Cold Chain Management Firm Modality Solutions Releases Timely White Paper on Transport Simulation Methodology

[ad_1]

Simulated Transport Methodologies White Paper

Regulatory expectations are driving the need to incorporate concurrent transport simulation testing into today’s biologics licensing application (BLA).

An understanding of these methodologies is vital to ensure the simulated transport hazards reflect the actual cold chain for each therapy,” explains Gary Hutchinson, President, Modality Solutions

Modality Solutions, a biopharmaceutical cold chain validation engineering firm, is making available for free its new white paper – Simulated Transport Methodologies. Regulatory expectations are driving the need to incorporate concurrent transport simulation testing into today’s biologics licensing application (BLA). In response, Modality Solutions shares an explanation of best-in-class methodologies for today’s biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries.

The simulation transport guide’s goal is to detail how simulated transport is a valuable technique to determine the physical stability of drug product protein solutions, including vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and gene therapies. Large molecule drug products may be susceptible to degradation when exposed to common transport hazards. Simulation testing exposes the product to the concurrent combination of these hazards at worst-case edges of your operating space in the global supply chain. Unlike ASTM-based testing, the hazards are applied with realistic durations and intensities that reflect the supply chain’s risks.

The Simulated Transport Methodologies white paper explains how a transport simulation approach is the most reliable way to create the real-time hazard levels experienced in the cold chain logistics network:

  • The simulation testing concurrently exposes the product to the five major transport hazards affecting drug product quality: shock, vibration, temperature, pressure, and humidity at the edges of your operating space.
  • Analytical results from samples exposed to worst-case transportation hazards demonstrate product robustness during simulated shipping.
  • Non-accelerated profiles are selected because they reflect the energy levels and intensities in the supply chain. The goal is not to accelerate the testing, but to replicate all the hazards in transit.

“An understanding of these methodologies is vital to ensure the simulated transport hazards reflect the actual cold chain for each therapy,” explains Modality Solutions President Gary Hutchinson. “If correctly planned and executed to be included in the BLA, analytical results from samples exposed to concurrent transport simulation are considered industry best practice.”

Modality Solutions’ unique Advantage Transport Simulation Laboratory provides the engineering platform for a biopharmaceutical cold chain network to test drug product formulation development and stability better than any “real-world” shipping study in the marketplace.
