Pow! Wow! Long Beach Adds a Splash of Art to the Regency Palms Long Beach Building

Artist Luise Ono's mural on the Regency Palms Long Beach building

Artist Luise Ono’s mural on the Regency Palms Long Beach building

Through POW! WOW! I wanted to express how I felt about the mural, so I had chosen these flowers for this mural.

In a celebration and support of the arts, the fifth annual Pow! Wow! Long Beach Street Art Festival approved Meridian Senior Living’s Regency Palms Long Beach Assisted Living and Memory Care (RPLB) located at 117 E. 8th Street to don one of the 21 beautiful large-scale murals installed by internationally renowned artists. Originating from Los Angeles to other parts of the world, artists enhanced the urban landscape of Long Beach in painting their amazing murals during the Pow! Wow! celebration.

Based in Tokyo, artist Luise Ono enhanced the side of the RPLB’s building with “greater than life” Hawaiian-like flowers and greenery. It was quite a spectacle to see Ms. Ono transform a dull wall over seven very hot days into a striking garden creating a splash and wow! for visitors walking by.

Growing up in a single-parent, low income household, Ms. Ono loved to draw at a young age. At 21, Luise was motivated after the death of her mother to live her life as she wanted; consequently, she became an artist. In 2010, she started live painting and was self-taught building up her career to accomplish a painting project for a television commercial in 2013. Luise participated in the first POW! WOW! in Japan in 2015 which was a turning point in her career that inspired her desire to paint globally. While the majority of her murals are located in Japan, she is always seeking for a chance to paint abroad and actively looking for international opportunities.

In describing the RPLB mural, Ms. Ono elaborates, “This mural consists of motifs of alstroemeria, lilium auratum, crocus, and the blanket flower. Each flower has a flower word and it is continuation, fun, life, memories, unity, and admiration for the future. Through POW! WOW! I wanted to express how I felt about the mural, so I had chosen these flowers for this mural.”

The public is welcome to visit Luise’s beautiful mural at RPLB’s building located at 117 E. 8th Street, Long Beach, CA. For more information about RPLB and their upcoming events, visit the community website at: https://msl.life/RPLB or call (562) 205-8110.

Loving Kindness Healthcare Systems Wants Healthcare Industry to Put Patients Before Profits

News Image

The healthcare industry has focused on profits and reporting metrics — instead of the patient — for far too long. It is time for all healthcare providers to become fully invested in patient-centered care.

The patient-centered care model advocates for a stronger relationship between a patient and his or her team of providers, and Loving Kindness Healthcare Systems is on a mission to change America’s healthcare system.

“The healthcare industry has focused on profits and reporting metrics — instead of the patient — for far too long,” said Scott Taylor, Director of Business at Loving Kindness Healthcare Systems. “It is time for all healthcare providers to become fully invested in patient-centered care.”

According to American Nurse Today, the patient-centered care model advocates for healthcare providers to incorporate their patient’s values, beliefs, and preferences into their care. As opposed to seeing patients as simply a receiver of care, providers establish sincere connections with their patients, empowering them to take an active part in their own care.

There are two major problems that arise when providers do not practice patient-centered care, according to Taylor. The first is a lack of communication and coordination between healthcare providers. Patients with chronic conditions often work with many different providers, which can lead to dangerous overlaps or gaps in care. Often patients with multiple medical conditions feel that their voice is not being heard, and that they are simply bouncing from one appointment to the next without being fully understood as a patient and individual.

“Our goal is to promote the patient’s maximum independence, improve their overall quality of life, and decrease future hospitalizations — and this is simply not obtainable in a vacuum,” Taylor added. “In order to do this, we must be able to coordinate care with all of the physicians and specialists our patients are seeing.”

In addition Loving Kindness wants to shed light on the lack of understanding regarding the unique bond that a home care nurse has with their patients. This relationship is often minimized, without realizing that the home care nurse is usually their patient’s biggest advocate. This dynamic is the main component of the patient-centered care model — the home care nurse serves as a liaison between their patients and the list of providers the patient is seeing, providing a detailed clinical narrative for all providers with valuable information necessary for effective coordination of care between all involved.

Patients look forward to their skilled nursing visits, knowing they can share personal details of what is going on not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Regular interaction between the nurse, patient, and their family positions the home care nurse to have a more in-depth understanding of the patients’ needs, values, and healthcare goals. Providers should be seeking out home care nurses to provide the necessary information to fill in the gaps between office visits. This concept of patient-centered care is what Loving Kindness would like to be the focus moving forward for all of healthcare, and hopes that more small, independent healthcare companies will take root in the coming years.

“I want young healthcare companies to believe in their ability to be as great as the institutional giants in our field,” Taylor concluded. “We need more quality patient-centered care in communities in Pennsylvania and beyond.”

About Loving Kindness Healthcare Systems

The mission of Loving Kindness Healthcare Systems is to provide home healthcare and/or private duty services to consumers of all ages. The goal is to maintain the consumer’s sense of dignity and quality of life in the familiar and comfortable environment of the client’s own home or its personal care facility. Ambry Genetics’ Data Reveal that Expanding Genetic Testing Guidelines Could Identify More Patients with Increased Risks of Cancer

Ambry Genetics

This study identifies specific opportunities to expand the current testing guidelines to identify more individuals facing increased cancer risks, who would benefit from more intensive cancer surveillance and/or preventive surgeries.

Ambry Genetics (Ambry), a leading clinical genetics testing company, announced today new opportunities to improve genetic testing guidelines. In the largest cohort study of its kind, Ambry presents novel, detailed evidence on how to improve the guidelines to identify more at-risk patients.

Clinicians use guidelines to inform decisions about which patients should receive genetic testing for hereditary cancer and for those patients which genes should be tested. These guidelines also have implications for how insurance plans cover genetic testing, and for appropriate medical management of patients after testing is complete.

In their recent study published in Genetics in Medicine, researchers from Ambry and Mayo Clinic applied genetic testing criteria from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology to 165,000 patients who underwent multigene, hereditary cancer panel testing.

Ambry specifically looked at the testing guidelines for BRCA-Related Breast and/or Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOC) and for Lynch Syndrome to better understand how the guidelines for these two common, inherited conditions might be improved to identify more at-risk patients.

The study found that updating the BRCA1 and BRCA2 and Lynch syndrome testing criteria to include more medically actionable, cancer-predisposition genes – and relaxing current criteria, such as age-at-diagnosis constraints – would identify more patients at risk for developing hereditary cancer.

The study found that:

  • 1 in 4 (409/1518) patients with pathogenic variants in Lynch syndrome genes would have been missed using current Lynch syndrome testing criteria;
  • 1 in 17 (302/5200) patients with pathogenic variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2 would have been missed using current BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing criteria; and
  • 3 in 5 (7647/12,847) patients with pathogenic variants in clinically actionable breast and/or ovarian cancer genes would have been missed if tested for BRCA1 and BRCA2 only.

“This study identifies specific opportunities to expand the current testing guidelines to identify more individuals facing increased cancer risks, who would benefit from more intensive cancer surveillance and/or preventive surgeries,” said Holly LaDuca, lead author on the study and senior manager of Clinical Affairs Research at Ambry Genetics.

In addition, this study revealed several new gene-cancer associations that have the potential to impact patient care. For example, pathogenic variants in BARD1 were associated with a 2-fold increased risk for breast cancer. However, there are no recommendations for increased breast cancer surveillance for these variants like there are for other genes associated with similar risk.

“Results from this study refined several gene-cancer associations for which there are no rec-ommendations for increased surveillance and/or preventive surgeries. More studies are need-ed from the genetics community to better understand how these new gene-cancer associations have the potential to impact patient care,” added Ms. LaDuca.

Nsure.com, the First Licensed, Digital Home/Auto Insurance Agency, Expedites Home Insurance Purchase by Integrating Wind Mitigation-4 Point Inspections in Online Process

https://www.prweb.com/

Nsure.com

“By using Nsure.com consumers can speed up and simplify the inspection process by arranging for such reports at the exact same time they are applying for homeowners insurance,” said Wojtek Gudaszewski, Co-Founder and CEO of Nsure.com.

Nsure.com, America’s first digital home and auto insurance agency, operating throughout the State of Florida, today announced it has partnered with multiple statewide Wind Mitigation and 4 Point Inspection companies to remove the hassle of arranging inspections by customers and expedite the home insurance purchasing process. This is critically important for Florida residents who annually deal with hurricanes.

Consumers working through Nsure.com will have the required inspections identified during the online application process. They will also be able to schedule these inspections in a timely manner (usually within 24 hours). That will help make the process of binding far more efficient and hassle free.

“Consumers have told us they find the process of obtaining Wind Mitigation and 4 Point Inspection Reports difficult and hard to arrange on their own. By using Nsure.com consumers can speed up and simplify that process by arranging for such reports at the exact same time they are applying for homeowners insurance,” said Wojtek Gudaszewski, Co-Founder and CEO of Nsure.com.

A Wind Mitigation Inspection documents wind-resistant features of a home and is extremely important as it allows homeowners to receive significant discounts for their home insurance premiums… very often 60% or more. Inspectors look for wind-resistant features of a home, such as: hurricane impact windows and doors, hurricane shutters, the age and shape of the roof, roof covering, etc. These features can reduce the amount of damage a home may suffer in the event of a hurricane or strong windstorm.

“We always educate consumers about the importance of Wind Mitigation Inspection reports and their impact on reducing insurance premiums. We are surprised that so many homeowners were previously insured without Wind Mitigation credits and as a result it’s unfortunate they were overpaying significantly for their home insurance,” said Adrian Dzielnicki, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Nsure.com. “We are finding savings for about two-thirds of our customers,” added Dzielnicki.

Beyond Wind Mitigation, the other very important inspection is the 4 Point Inspection. Most insurance companies require 4 Point Inspections to provide insurance coverage for homes older than 30 years. They want to know that an older home has been well maintained and the 4 major systems in the home are in good working condition. These 4 major systems include: Roof, Electrical Wiring and Panels, Plumbing, HVAC.

In addition to Wind Mitigation and 4 Point Inspections, many homeowners will need additional inspections and reports including an Elevation Certificate for homes located in high-risk flood zones.

“All these inspections must be performed by certified independent inspectors. Nsure.com partnering with multiple statewide inspection companies removes the hassle of our customers having to arrange inspections on their own and expedites the home insurance purchasing process,” said Dzielnicki.

It is estimated that Americans overspend for their home and auto insurance by $30 billion annually. Beyond that, the current insurance purchase and inspection processes are time consuming, not transparent, and often results in fake insurance quotes and constant spam and sales pitches.

Nsure.com, http://www.nsure.com, is finally changing the way Floridians can buy home and auto insurance for good. The fully-licensed company has introduced technology that promises time- and cost-savings (up to 45%) to consumers by providing them instant – real, not estimated – quote comparisons for home and auto insurance through a user-friendly digital platform that can complete an entire purchase within minutes.

Nsure.com uses proprietary technology that generates free, real-time quotes from up to 25 different carriers in a matter of seconds. That technology auto-fills most data in any application – from VIN numbers to home construction information – thereby dramatically expediting the process and delivering a hassle-free customer experience.

Nsure.com’s technology also simplifies the entire insurance buying experience while creating the transparency customers want and the insurance industry has needed. Customers can now compare similar policies from multiple insurers side-by-side and purchase the most attractive one in as little as five minutes. When it’s time for a policy renewal, Nsure.com automatically informs customers about the best offers in the market before their policy expires.

Among the other benefits of purchasing through Nsure.com is the ability to compare insurance prices in three coverage options. And, with a simple slide bar/drop-down menu, customers can immediately increase or decrease coverage and deductibles to receive custom quotes to fit their needs. Furthermore, the company uses data mining technology to automatically recommend the right coverage levels.

All policy, transaction information and quotations are stored on a buyer’s own secure Nsure.com account. The buyer can request policy changes or cancellations anytime. The company does have licensed insurance agents available to answer any questions, and guide clients through the claims process. These agents are not salesmen; they are highly trained, licensed specialists trained to help customers with any insurance question.

The Nsure.com service is available only to Floridians right now. The all-digital company has plans to expand its offerings – and geographic reach – in the coming months.

About Nsure.com

Based in Florida, Nsure.com is the first all-digital licensed insurance agency that provides auto and home insurance via its secure website. Employing the most advanced data technology to track up-to-the-minute, real, not estimated, quotes from more than two dozen insurance carriers, Nsure.com enables customers to take complete control of the insurance buying process on their smartphones, tablets and computers. The company’s platform delivers a hassle-free experience, from a streamlined application process and instant quotes to no sales pitches and a simple renewal process that automatically updates quotes just prior to expiration so that customers can take advantage of the best rates and coverage possible.

Shift Labs Receives Small Business Innovation Research Phase II Award From US Air Force

“We see this as an opportunity to transform and modernize a critical component of healthcare,” said Beth Kolko, Shift Labs CEO. “A connected DripAssist allows us to build a new data set that will dramatically improve insights into drug dosing and patient outcomes.”

Shift Labs, Inc., a Seattle-based company that designs and manufactures innovative, high-quality infusion technologies, announced today that it has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract by the United States Air Force (USAF) through the AFWERX innovation program.

The Phase II contract will allow Shift Labs to develop wireless capabilities for the DripAssist Infusion Rate Monitor platform and integrate the device with patient monitoring and digital health solutions for both military and civilian customers.

DripAssist is the first monitored gravity infusion device that allows easy management of infusions without a conventional intravenous (IV) infusion pump. By adding data connectivity, the DripAssist platform will now capture and communicate previously unexplored data about treatments, patient response, and compliance related to medication delivery. Seamless integration of this data across multiple care sites will deliver key insights previously only available with complex equipment or expensive hospital visits.

Military healthcare providers regularly deliver gravity IV infusions throughout the care continuum and they need ways to improve data capture and information sharing, particularly during patient hand-offs. Outside of hospitals, civilian markets have the same problem; in homes, nursing facilities, or infusion suites, IVs are delivered via gravity or with pumps that lack real-time data sharing capability, meaning there is no easy way for distributed healthcare teams to monitor treatments. Accessing real-time IV infusion data is a key component of compliance and is especially crucial for health systems seeking to reduce rehospitalization for at-risk patient populations.

“We see this as an opportunity to transform and modernize a critical component of healthcare,” said Beth Kolko, Shift Labs CEO. “More and more IV medication is being delivered outside of hospitals, and surprisingly often this is via gravity infusion with little to no data captured. A connected DripAssist platform allows us to bring the power of data science to this growing healthcare segment and build a new data set that will dramatically improve insights into drug dosing and patient outcomes.”

While the Air Force is funding development of a wireless DripAssist to improve field care, Shift Labs is simultaneously developing the DripAssist technology to record gravity infusion data and share it to a multitude of civilian systems, including remote patient monitoring platforms, EHRs, infusion pharmacies, and clinical research organizations.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to pursue this dual-use technology and partner with organizations leading the charge to better understand how patients respond to treatment,” added Kolko. “Additional impact will come from our partnerships with Clinical Research Organizations as we explore how the DripAssist platform adds new layers of data to digital clinical trials and potentially improves drug discovery timelines.”

In a prior SBIR Phase I award, DripAssist was successfully evaluated as an effective tool to improve the administration of intravenous (IV) infusions in austere care settings such as field medicine, forward surgical teams, aerovac, and prolonged field care. DripAssist is already in use across environments as diverse as US home care to Ebola treatment centers.
