The use of electronic clinical outcome assessments (eCOA) is surging in clinical trials. Despite this trend, there is still some hesitation to embrace eCOA for fear that building an electronic version of an existing COA may “break” an instrument’s psychometric properties.

The use of electronic clinical outcome assessments (eCOA) is surging in clinical trials. Despite this trend, there is still some hesitation to embrace eCOA for fear that building an electronic version of an existing COA may “break” an instrument’s psychometric properties.

Fortunately, regulatory guidance and industry best practices have helped researchers to ensure modification to validated COAs when migrated to electronic platform has not undermined the instruments’ measurement properties. Guidance documents recommend mode equivalence studies of varying levels of complexity and associated cost, dependent on the extent to which an instrument is “changed” when migrated to a different mode of administration. The recommended studies can be expensive and time-intensive– requiring recruitment of 10-75 patients and up to 6-9 months to design, execute and analyze the study data.

In recent literature, eCOA experts suggested that mode equivalence testing may be eliminated for instruments that require only minor modifications when migrated to a new mode of administration, provided industry best practices for faithful migration are followed and the resulting screens undergo expert screen review.

SLCC offers new fitness degree, new courses.

The goal is to accommodate the many students, about 75%, in our program who want to work in the industry while going for their bachelor’s degree.

Students at Salt Lake Community College now have a new path to a four-year degree in fitness. SLCC added an Associate of Science degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology as well as several exercise science courses. The new offerings will prepare students for seamless transfer to four-year degree programs at the University of Utah and other state schools.

The new degree and new courses, which include Intro to Exercise Science, Sport and American Society, and Special Topics in Exercise Science, are designed to complement the college’s existing Associate of Applied Science degree in the Fitness Technician program. Now, students who want to gain industry experience while seeking an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science will be able to enter the workforce more quickly by earning the Fitness Technician degree, and some of the credits in that program will fulfill the requirements for the Exercise Science/Kinesiology degree.

Nathan Thomas, associate dean for the Department of Exercise Science, said the added courses and new degree option are more in line with programs offered at other local and national higher education institutions.

“The goal is to accommodate the many students, about 75%, in our program who want to work in the industry while going for their bachelor’s degree,” said Nathan Thomas, associate dean for the school’s Department of Exercise Science.

SLCC worked closely with the University of Utah and other state schools to ensure the changes accommodate a seamless transition to four-year degree programs. The changes at SLCC prepare students for careers and transfer pathways in exercise science and kinesiology, the study of human movement. These new offerings started in August.

Salt Lake Community College is Utah’s largest two-year higher education institution. The college is Utah’s leading provider of workforce development programs and the largest supplier of transfer students to the state’s four-year institutions. SLCC is also a top 10 college nationally for total associate’s degrees awarded and the leading provider of applied technology courses in Salt Lake County.

He also engaged in multi-jurisdictional complex business litigation, including securities class actions and mass actions. He is admitted to practice law in California and in all the state’s federal courts.

Lee has been recognized by the SEC numerous times for his exemplary work, receiving multiple Division of Enforcement Director Awards and agency’s Award for Excellence (the SEC’s highest honor). In 2018, he was appointed by the California Supreme Court to serve as Chair of the California State Bar’s Board of Trustees, the governing body of the largest attorney bar in the country, overseeing over 250,000 licensees. As the Chair, he is charged with overseeing more than 500 employees and the agency’s $250 million budget that runs the state’s attorney regulatory system, including discipline, admissions, education, and critical diversity and access to justice efforts. Prior to his service on the Board of Trustees, Lee was the Chair of the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation, the body statutorily responsible for vetting and rating the qualifications of all potential appointees to California’s trial and appellate courts.

Liberty IT Solutions Awarded $14M Collaborative Terminology Tooling & Data Management Maintenance and Development Task Order


Liberty IT Solutions LLC, which specializes in Health Information Technology has been awarded a 4-year (12-month Base Period plus three 12-month Option Periods) Collaborative Terminology Tooling & Data Management Maintenance and Development (CTT DMMD) Task Order. The goal for this Task Order is to sustain and improve upon the application created to standardize clinical terminology for use across the Veterans Health Administration. Over time, our team will enhance the application with capabilities that the Standards and Terminology Services (STS) office and Knowledge Based Systems (KBS) group require. These enhancements include interoperability connections to HealthShare and the Cerner Electronic Health Record.

Liberty, in collaboration with ManTech International Corporation, Apelon, Inc., and West Coast Informatics, LLC, will sustain and further develop the terminology solutions to prevent roadblocks in achieving interoperability between Veterans Affairs (VA) and non-VA systems, achieve enterprise-wide data reporting, and support clinical decision support and research initiatives.

The team recognizes the importance of maintaining nationally standardized and locally developed clinical terminology standards and creating a more seamless experience for system users. To achieve this, the team will leverage its cloud expertise, providing both cloud administration and cloud support to the CTT DMMD.
