Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association Releases Whitepaper on Pressure-Reducing Valves

Understanding how pressure-reducing valves work and how they are regulated is key to keeping buildings safe. It will also help fire protection engineers and building owners select and adjust their PRVs, which is why the information contained in this newly released whitepaper is so valuable.

Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association just released a new whitepaper entitled ‘The Ins & Outs of Pressure-Reducing Valves’. The non-profit trade association encourages building managers and fire protection engineers to download and read the whitepaper to learn more about PRV standards and operation instructions.

Most high-rise projects are required by regulations to have automatic sprinkler systems as well as standpipe systems for use by fire departments. In such buildings, installing pressure-reducing valves on each floor can ensure that the pump pressure on the lower floors does not exceed standards established by the National Fire Protection Association while still allowing the minimum acceptable pressure to the top floors. The whitepaper released by Fire Equipment Manufacturer’s Association spells out the requirements and standards for PRVs.

“Understanding how pressure-reducing valves work and how they are regulated is key to keeping buildings safe. It will also help fire protection engineers and building owners select and adjust their PRVs, which is why the information contained in this newly released whitepaper is so valuable,” said Jeff Saunders, president of Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association. The whitepaper is based on a previously-written article the association updated with current information and is being published with permission from the original author.

Building managers, fire protection engineers and other interested parties are invited to read, study and download the whitepaper at https://femalifesafety.org/prv-whitepaper.html. Additional information about Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association can be found at https://femalifesafety.org/.

Comfort Your V Naturally with Heating and Cooling ‘Private Packs’

We give you choices - Hot or Cold Vulva Pads

Heating or Cooling Pick Your Pack

Private Packs intends to start the conversation about vulvovaginal self-care by first honoring vulvas in a natural, therapeutic way.

Private Packs, an emerging women’s wellness company announces the launch of a set of natural, non-invasive heating and cooling pads used to soothe and comfort vulvas from myriad medical and beauty issues, or anytime a woman wants extra care of her vulva.

Women all over the world at one point have experienced vaginal discomfort, with as many as 14 million women in the United States experiencing chronic vulva pain as a result of vulvodynia. Rather than using bulky electric heating pads or shoving frozen vegetables down there, Private Packs is completely reimagining the outdated do-it-yourself solutions that women have been using for decades to get vulva relief. The brand’s food-grade therapy pads are wearable, discreet and reusable for life on-the-go.

“I created Private Packs for myself after a traumatic Brazilian wax. I then became a customer of my own product after stage three breast cancer treatment affected my vagina, which my doctors had not prepared me for,” said Suzanne Sinatra, founder, and chief executive officer of Private Packs. “Since it’s helped me so much I won’t stop until I get this product in the hands of women across the country. Women make up half of the global market and it’s high time we have an attractive alternative to vaginal discomfort.”

According to a March 2019 report from Frost & Sullivan, the Femtech industry is predicted to have a market potential of $50 billion by 2025 and will grow significantly as a result of continued innovation in the space.

“Private Packs addresses many vaginal issues women face, but having a reusable cooling pad that can be used immediately after childbirth for swelling and discomfort is a gamechanger for the approximately 90 percent of women who experience vaginal tearing,” said Dr. Kameelah Phillips, M.D. “Private Packs has integrated feedback from users and physicians to create a unique self-care experience for women unlike anything currently available on the market.”

Private Packs heating pads provide thermal therapy to relieve muscle pain/spasms, soreness, inflammation for relaxing relief. The cooling pads offer cryotherapy treatment that can reduce swelling, bruising, irritation and are refreshing. The products provide treatment options for women experiencing discomfort as a result of menstrual cramps, chronic infections, exercise soreness, post-surgery, pubic area hair removal, sexual activity or vaginal childbirth.

“Patients benefit from heat and ice to relieve their symptoms, so Private Packs is a great option for a variety of issues, but in particular, it fills the need for a non-medical alternative to pelvic floor pain and discomfort,” said Dr. Rachel Gelman, PT, DPT, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Pelvic Floor Specialist in San Francisco.

Private Packs launched today an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for additional inventory to meet the growing demand for its product. To learn more about the crowdfunding campaign, visit http://bit.ly/indiegogopp.

Melanie Elturk Named in Inc.’s 2019 Female Founders 100 List

We’re determined to make hijabs Muslim women always wished they had—or the ones they never imagined were possible.

Melanie Elturk Named in Inc.’s 2019 Female Founders 100 List

Melanie Elturk joins the second annual list of women building America’s most inspiring businesses, along with Rebecca Minkoff, Sallie Krawcheck, Serena Williams, Audrey Gelman, Rihanna, Alli Webb, and Eileen Fisher.

Inc. announced its second annual Female Founders 100 list, honoring an influential, ambitious, and diverse group of 100 women who have transformed every major industry in America.

The final list honors entrepreneurs of every age, background and locale. These women are building and leading innovative companies in a vast range of global industries, including tech, fashion, finance, fitness, consumer products, food, and more.

“As the leading US hijab brand, we serve the hijab-wearing woman with products that elevate her hijab, and more importantly, empower her to feel comfortable and confident in her identity as a Muslim woman,” says Elturk.

Haute Hijab made headlines with their Luxury Collection, launched in early 2018, featured in Elle, Glamour, and Vogue Arabia. The next major collection was Underscarves – merging cutting-edge fabric technology with meticulous design. With this collection they spearheaded a new category of sustainability and wellness-focused hijabs.

The Heritage Collection is the most recent that fuses the brand’s vintage legacy with Islamic art elements. Currently, Haute Hijab is focused on an athletic option to rival Nike’s foray into the hijab market expected to launch in 2020. With almost a year into research and development, they understand an athletics hijab is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

“We’re creating different options depending on the level of athleticism with an emphasis on innovative textiles and sleek design. It’s not enough for us to make good hijabs; we’re determined to make hijabs Muslim women always wished they had—or the ones they never imagined were possible,” explains Elturk.

Inc. editors and writers spent the past year researching a wealth of exciting and accomplished candidates for the list. The founders selected have each made their mark on their industry in the past year, by setting audacious goals or by achieving business milestones. Taken together, they represent the female-led future of business.

“This year’s Female Founders 100 showcases the vast and diverse array of female entrepreneurship in America. From the young women whose startups are transforming financial services and tech, to veteran CEOs who have run iconic fitness and food companies for decades, these women are leading many of the most innovative businesses today,” says Maria Aspan, editor-at-large of Inc.

Introduced in 2018, the Female Founders 100 list quickly established itself as one of Inc.’s most esteemed franchises. This year’s package includes a cover story on The Wing co-founder Audrey Gelman, who makes history as the first visibly pregnant CEO on the cover of a mainstream business magazine; and a survey, done in concert with Inc. sister publication Fast Company, of more than 600 of the world’s top female founders discussing the state of women and entrepreneurship.
