Congenica Partners with Genomenon to Integrate Mastermind into Congenica Clinical Platform

Congenica and Genomenon partnership

Mastermind brings a new dimension to the Congenica platform, aiding variant interpretation by reducing the manual effort required to curate the rapidly growing body of genomic research, improving the likelihood of finding key genetic insights that could be critical for diagnosis.

Genomenon® announced a partnership with Congenica Ltd today that incorporates Mastermind® Genomic Search Engine results into Congenica’s clinical decision support platform for genomic data interpretation. The goal of the partnership is to put the most up-to-date genomic research at the fingertips of geneticists diagnosing genetic diseases.

Congenica® is state-of-the-art software for the analysis and interpretation of complex genomic data, enabling healthcare professionals to increase diagnostic yield and case throughput, maximize their workflow efficiency and improve confidence in every diagnosis. Interpreted genomic data from Congenica supports rapid and accurate diagnoses, helping to provide patients with the treatment they need, faster than ever before.

With this partnership, Mastermind will be available to all Congenica users, including the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) as part of Congenica’s arrangement as the exclusive decision support platform provider for the NHS Genomic Medicine Service. Each Congenica user at the national network of UK laboratories that provide genetic testing for NHS patients will be given access to Mastermind Professional Edition, directly integrated within the Congenica platform.

Congenica users will be able to quickly access the genetic evidence associated with their patients’ variants and, with a single click, gain access to the full list of articles within Mastermind to shorten the search time required to clinically interpret a variant and support its pathogenicity.

A key driver in the decision to incorporate Mastermind is the breadth and depth of its coverage of genetic variants and published literature. Mastermind has indexed nearly 7 million full text articles and 500,000 supplemental data sets and covers over 4.9 million variants found in the medical literature.

“Mastermind brings a new dimension to the Congenica platform, aiding variant interpretation by reducing the manual effort required to curate the rapidly growing body of genomic research, improving the likelihood of finding key genetic insights that could be critical for diagnosis,” said David Atkins, CEO of Congenica. “We believe that our growing number of global users will find a great deal of benefit from having Mastermind available with the Congenica platform.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with Congenica to put the most comprehensive and up-to-date genetic research in the hands of geneticists making clinical diagnoses.” said Mike Klein, CEO of Genomenon. “Our relationship extends Mastermind’s global reach, and coupled with Congenica, provides significant value in cutting turnaround time and increasing diagnostic yield for genetic labs.”

Historic Factory Renovation into 4.5 Acre Business Campus Opening Next Spring

The Colony will be located in the heart of Lambert’s Point and tie together the City of Norfolk’s technology zone with Old Dominion University.

IPConfigure, a video surveillance software development company headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, announces a new 4.5 acre campus scheduled to open in Spring 2020. The campus, named the Colony, will be located in the heart of Lambert’s Point and, as the future site of IPConfigure’s headquarters, will tie together the City of Norfolk’s technology zone with Old Dominion University.

The City of Norfolk has geographically been an important part of the company’s growth and continued success. With the help of the City of Norfolk’s Economic Development Department and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, IPConfigure selected the Innovation Research Center at Old Dominion University as its headquarters starting in 2009.

In 2018, with the rapid growth of the company, IPConfigure embarked upon a year-long journey searching for a facility in Norfolk that could host the company’s expanding tech business while supporting the increasing need for manufacturing and freight handling amenities.

“The nature of IPConfigure’s business presented some unique challenges when searching for an office. Our needs are surprisingly contradictory since we host software engineers, sales staff and light manufacturing teams at our headquarters. We were excited to find the Bowdens Ferry Road property which will not only allow us to customize the space to fit our needs, but represents a historic contribution,” said Christopher S. Uiterwyk, president and CEO of IPConfigure.

Originally home to the Linde Gas Factory and built in 1939, the buildings on the property supported the manufacturing of acetylene gas, which was in high demand and supported the regions maritime role during War World II. Before purchase by Uiterwyk, it was home to Dublin Metals. Now a vacant shell, the space beacons for a new purpose.

Uiterwyk enlisted a team of regional experts to assist in revitalizing the historic buildings and bringing life back to the property. The team will restore the historic brick facade, iconic Linde Gas factory chimney, and many of the original historic details, such as the 1939 windows and doors.

“Much credit goes to the owners of IPConfigure, who have consistently pursued a sensitive renovation and restoration of this important piece of Norfolk’s history. The project architect, WPA, has found a way to preserve the distinct character of this building while accommodating a modern and technologically advanced company. This project exemplifies the best of preservation – protecting the cultural and built heritage of Norfolk, while accommodating the dynamic vision of the new owner. CPG is proud to be a part of such an impressive effort,” said Paige Pollard, from the Commonwealth Preservation Group.

With an overall investment of over $7M, the development of the Colony campus will create 30,000 square feet of building space. 10,000 square feet of which will be leasable space for four additional tenants. Uiterwyk hopes to rent that space to a retailer, restaurant, fitness center or other lifestyle brands that will contribute to the Colony’s campus theme.

A World Free of Preventable Disease

https://www.prweb.com/

Our readers are looking for the science behind wellness and inspiration to lead healthy, happy lives, so we are eager to share each month’s Moonshot theme with them. My hope is that we’ll continue to build a community of people committed to personal and global health.

The Global Wellness Institute™ (GWI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to empower wellness worldwide by educating the public and private sectors about preventative health and wellness, today announced a special collaboration with Hearst’s Prevention magazine for 2020. Every month, Prevention will dedicate a full page to the theme of the GWI’s The Wellness Moonshot Calendar. The calendar will be featured in both print and digital editions of the magazine, inspiring an additional 13 million people to eradicate preventable, chronic diseases and reduce the staggering human and economic costs associated with them.

“Prevention has been a trusted health resource and wellness thought-leader for 70 years, so partnering with the Global Wellness Institute on The Wellness Moonshot was a natural fit,” says Sarah Smith, content director, Prevention. “Our readers are looking for the science behind wellness and inspiration to lead healthy, happy lives, so we are eager to share each month’s Moonshot theme with them. My hope is that we’ll continue to build a community of people committed to personal and global health.”

The Wellness Moonshot Calendar concept was conceived and designed by Jessica Jesse, CEO of BuDhaGirl, and revolves around the cycles of the full moon, the period of the lunar cycle that emits the most vibrant energy, inspiring new ideas and habits. The 2020 calendar takes its cues from nature, and Jesse says, “Preventing chronic disease is something everyone at every level can do. The Moonshot Calendar was designed to help individuals, families, companies and communities champion wellness in a creative, engaging manner. The moon is always with us; it is a great anchor of energy, of time, of myth and of hope.”

As we embrace a new year, January is about “emerge”—what it means to grow as wellness leaders who consciously empower the health and happiness of our families, workplaces and communities, while also cultivating our personal wellbeing. For February, the theme is “include,” highlighting the joy that comes when we embrace wholeness at work and at home, as well as within ourselves. Renee Moorefield, CEO of Wisdom Works, curates each month’s tips and articles.

“The Wellness Moonshot Calendar’s impact is growing exponentially. Last year, our focus was on wellness in the workplace, where we engaged with the leaders of over 350 businesses and organizations reaching over 500,000 individuals to get them to commit to healthier work cultures,” says Susie Ellis, GWI chairman and CEO. “We are thrilled to be extending the reach of The Wellness Moonshot to the readers of Prevention magazine and providing them with a monthly roadmap for meaningful change.”

As an umbrella organization that brings together often siloed forces and sectors all working to build a healthier world, the GWI is committed to bringing the issue of preventable disease to the forefront of its research and education efforts. The Wellness Moonshot: A World Free of Preventable Disease was launched in 2017 at the Global Wellness Summit by Ellis and Dr. Richard H. Carmona, 17th Surgeon General of the United States and current chief of health innovation, Canyon Ranch.

Dr. Mehmet C. Oz, professor of surgery, Columbia University and host of The Dr. Oz Show, commented at the launch: “We have to be brave enough to take on this Moonshot—we really need to accelerate the focus on prevention.”

Organizations and individuals can support The Wellness Moonshot and receive the 2020 calendar by making a donation to the nonprofit GWI, signifying their commitment to creating a culture of wellness within their organization or community.

If you are interested in getting involved to help spread the message to underserved communities, please contact Michelle Gamble michelle.gamble@globalwellnessinstitute.org.

GHX Survey Finds Supply Chain Data Key to Accelerating Healthcare’s Shift to Value-Based Care

Our survey found these Best 50 providers are not only pushing for greater levels of automation and standardization within supply chain processes, but also for ways to drive integration with clinical processes.

In support of the Association for Healthcare Resource & Material Management’s (AHRMM) annual National Healthcare Supply Chain Week, October 6-12, 2019, Global Healthcare Exchange, LLC (GHX) today announced the results of a survey conducted among its Best 50 provider organizations regarding healthcare supply chain priorities for 2020. The survey underscores the growing role of data derived from the supply chain as a key contributor in solving the cost/quality/outcomes equation in healthcare, as well as understanding and improving overall financial performance.

Today’s supply chain professionals are tasked with bringing increased levels of automation and standardization to supply chain processes to support the healthcare industry’s shift to a value-based care model. Process and efficiency improvements rely on accurate accessible data. Survey results show respondents are implementing initiatives that will empower them to make data-driven decisions to improve efficiency, reduce costs and gain visibility into the true cost of care.

“The GHX Best 50 represent an elite group of supply chain professionals who consistently demonstrate the powerful role supply chain plays in understanding the true cost of care,” said Bruce Johnson, president and CEO of GHX. “Our annual survey provides a pulse check regarding the direction in which these leaders are headed. In keeping with the theme of this year’s AHRMM Supply Chain Week, ‘Health Care Supply Chain: Advancing Health Care Through Clinical Integration,’ our survey found these Best 50 providers are not only pushing for greater levels of automation and standardization within supply chain processes, but also for ways to drive integration with clinical processes.”

GHX Best 50 supply chain leaders identified two primary initiatives that will support the move to value-based care:

Better Use of Data and Standards to Support Value-Based Care

The shift to a value-based care model requires that the healthcare industry finally understand the true cost of delivering care, including the costs of products, which products deliver the best outcome at the best price, and how to reduce clinical variation around what works best for the patient. Standardized supply chain data allows all stakeholders to understand the relationship between the cost to deliver care and the outcomes achieved. Standardization enables supplier and provider organizations to take a more strategic and informed approach to a broad range of clinical and financial systems, including EHRs, patient billing, recall tracking, value analysis activities and comparative effectiveness research. For example, GHX Best 50 provider Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS) is using standardized and enriched supply chain data to better understand the cost of providing patient care and how variation affects both cost and quality.

Supply Chain and Clinical Systems Integration

The integration of supply chain and clinical systems will become increasingly critical to reduce variation in costs and quality and accelerate the necessary adjustments to improve outcomes. To account for the products used during a care episode, prepare for recalls, and capture a greater percentage of case charges, healthcare must ensure the systems supporting every aspect of care are connected and able to share timely and accurate data. For example, Stanford Health Care has created tighter integration between its supply chain and clinical systems, which allows supply chain professionals and physicians to collaborate on standardization and cost reduction initiatives

GHX Best 50

To select the Best 50, GHX evaluates the performance of more than 4,100 hospitals in the U.S. and Canada currently connected to the GHX electronic trading exchange. Annually, GHX identifies the top 50 healthcare provider organizations that are driving down costs and improving operational performance based on key utilization and exception management metrics during the calendar year. The 2018 Best 50 were announced in February 2019.

“Wallflower,” A Movie About Washington’s Deadliest Mass Murder, Is Sending a Message of Hope and Healing with Help from a Psychiatrist Who Knows

https://www.prweb.com/

Dr. Adler testifying recently in a high school shooting case

This movie will powerfully reach the hearts and minds of filmgoers. That’s the magic of movies.

“Wallflower,” favorably reviewed by Variety, (https://variety.com/2017/film/reviews/wallflower-review-1202463549/) will begin its US theatrical rollout this Friday, October 4, 2019 at the historic AMC Empire 25 in New York City. Additional screenings are being planned for Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Las Vegas and Seattle.

Forensic Psychiatrist, Richard S. Adler, MD, has had an exciting career. He testified at the sentencing hearing for “The Barefoot Bandit,” was a consultant to the Defense in the Kandahar Massacre of 16 civilians in Afghanistan, continues to work on death penalty and school shooting cases across the US. It was in 2012, that he was tapped to be the consulting co-producer for “Wallflower.”

As part of his duties, Adler obtained original source documents, interviewed first-hand witnesses, provided input on creative content, worked with the male lead, helping him prepare him for the role, and most important of all, organized a special screening of the movie for survivors. Adler insisted on active efforts to avoid glamorizing the murderer as well as violence in general. The psychiatrist helped the creative team better understand the true-life backstory of the murderer, adding to the haunting power of Wallflower’s storytelling.

Dr. Adler will be moderating the Q & A session that will immediately follow the New York premiere. The panel will consist of lead male actor David Call, director Jagger Gravning and producer John W. Comerford.

Friday afternoon, before the premiere, The John Jay College of Criminal Justice will be hosting Dr. Adler’s presentation, “The Successful Interaction of Forensic Practice With The Media: Lights! Camera! Movie Premiere!” Nationally-recognized legal commentator, lattorney Anne Bremner (@AnneMBremner) and John Jay Professor, Gerard Bryant, Ph.D, will both add their insights prior to a formal Q & A opportunity for students and faculty.

Steel City Re Develops Corporate Checklist for Forging Reputational Resilience

https://www.prweb.com/

Nir Kossovsky, CEO of Steel City Re

“With a record number of CEOs losing their jobs last year, and the number of reputation-based lawsuits over board-level oversight surging, corporate leaders clearly need a preemptive reputational risk management strategy.”

Although the reputations of companies and their leaders are more vulnerable than ever, there are seven practical steps they can take to forge reputation resilience, reports a white paper https://steelcityre.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Pub-0036-Reputation-Risk-Management-Checklist-20191001.pdf from Steel City Re, which provides insurances and reputation risk governance advice.

“With a record number of CEOs losing their jobs last year, and the number of reputation-based lawsuits over board-level oversight surging, corporate leaders clearly need a preemptive reputational risk management strategy,” says Steel City Re CEO Nir Kossovsky.

“Ninety percent of the S&P 500 refer to reputation in their SEC filings as a material risk – but most never describe their strategy for mitigating it,” says Kossovsky. And yet, says Kossovsky, most corporate leaders do not fully appreciate that reputation risk is actually the peril of angry disappointed stakeholders. It is not a marketing problem. “When boards disclose reputation as a material risk without truly understanding it or appropriately mitigating it as a governance and operational problem, they are putting themselves and their companies in even greater peril.”

Milestones on the road to corporate reputational resilience lay in a seven-point checklist, cited in Steel City Re’s latest white paper:

1.    The board of directors comprehends the true nature of reputational risk – economic damage and go-forward losses resulting from the behaviors of angry and disappointed stakeholders, as opposed to merely negative media coverage.

2.    A board committee oversees the corporation’s enterprise-wide policies, practices and procedures that mitigate and manage reputational risk.

3.    Senior management sets appropriate stakeholder expectations by bridging risk management and marketing silos—so that aspirational messaging doesn’t outpace actual performance.

Students with Hearing Loss Awarded Scholarship from HearStrong & the NFL Players Association’s PAF

Todd Honas accepts the first scholarship from the partnership back in 2016

Since I have hearing loss, I have always provided a unique perspective on life, yet I have never let that stop me from doing what I love, pursuing excellence at all times, and working beyond my limits.

The HearStrong Foundation and the NFL Players Association’s Professional Athletes Foundation launched the fourth annual scholarship program for student athletes with hearing loss. Through the program, six students received $1,000 to go toward their higher education.

The HearStrong Foundation and the NFLPA have been tackling issues surrounding hearing loss together for years. A not-for-profit organization dedicated to recognizing remarkable adults and children with hearing loss, HearStrong partners with the NFLPA to empower and inspire others. In fact, many former professional athletes have joined the cause as HearStrong Ambassadors throughout the years.

The scholarship program was born in 2016 in an effort to inspire a new generation of athletes who have overcome challenges surrounding their hearing loss. The program is open to high school juniors through college sophomores who have played at least one year of high school varsity sports and are attending – or have plans to attend – a college or university.

Casey King was one of the six recipients of this year’s scholarship when she was entering her sophomore year in college at Capital University. Casey says,

“Since I have hearing loss, I have always provided a unique perspective on life, yet I have never let that stop me from doing what I love, pursuing excellence at all times, and working beyond my limits.”

Jacob Hartman, another recipient entering his freshmen year at Glenville State College, has also demonstrated excellence in all areas of his academics and athletics.

“I set the example of how an athlete should act on and off the field and hope that those that watched will continue to follow me and will set the bar high for what they want to accomplish,” said Jacob. “You can do anything you want and never let anyone discourage you from it.”
