Delivering Operational Consistency, Quality & Reproducibility to Preclinical Pharma, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

https://www.prweb.com/

Xtalks Life Science Webinars

Both at the sponsor and the contract service provider, value takes the form of price, delivery time, reputation, transparency and security — the kind of efficiencies a software investment is expected to provide.

Fewer than 50 percent of preclinical research studies, conducted at a cost of $28 billion per year, are reproducible. Rigor in bioanalytical method validation is emerging in the form of a global standard: preclinical studies are increasingly outsourced (by some estimates, more than half of the time) and senior scientists add the management of an offshore team to their duties.

How can software increase the reproducibility of preclinical research studies amid the shift towards outsourcing and the convergence of regulation and expectations?

Both at the sponsor and the contract service provider, value takes the form of price, delivery time, reputation, transparency and security — the kind of efficiencies a software investment is expected to provide.

Join Graeme Dennis, Commercial Director of Preclinical Pharma at IDBS in a live webinar on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 10am EDT (3pm BST/UK) where attendees will learn about:

  • What sets apart a successful preclinical informatics implementation
  • How the software market has responded to the shift to outsourcing
  • Where competitive advantage may be gained for outsourced pharma
  • Why software can help improve reproducibility in preclinical studies

This webinar will examine how the deployment of tools in a unit operations or “Workflow-as-a-Service” context can enable reproducible, consistent and transparent work at the scientist bench — while delivering sponsor value at the same time.

Research Demonstrates Impact of 2’-Fucosyllactose (2’FL) on Gut Microbiota and Metabolite Production

News Image

These kind of study approaches can give more understanding on the how HMOs can be utilized by the microbiota with a method that is not invasive, which is important especially in the case of infants.

Continuing its leading research on human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), DuPont released the findings of a new study showing that Care4U™ 2’-FL, a DuPont product, beneficially changes microbiota composition and the production of microbial metabolites in comparison to galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and lactose. The effects elicited to microbiota and metabolite composition by 2’-FL were between the responses elicited by GOS and lactose, which indicates that 2’-FL is selectively fermented by the infant microbes.

“Our previous in vitro cultivation experiments, as well as literature, indicated that 2’-FL is selectively utilized by only certain types of bifidobacteria and Bacteroides species, and this type of modelling with a complex microbiota is a step ahead in our journey to understand the prebiotic mechanisms of 2’-FL,” indicated Krista Salli, M.Sc., Scientist, DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences.

“This study exemplifies the utility of the DuPont™ Enteromix® infant gut simulator to compare the fermentation of the carbohydrates between each other,” said Heli Anglenius, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences. “Over the years, the Enteromix® gut simulator developed in-house in Kantvik, Finland, has been used successfully for a multitude of studies with fecal microbiota sampled from adults, and this study demonstrates its applicability to studies where the microbiota is obtained from infants. This is a great continuation for more than 20 years of expertise using our own pre-clinical modelling.”

Among the study’s other achievements was the comparison of 2’-FL to GOS and lactose.

“While this study was done under simulated gut conditions, it showed the differences between the carbohydrates, especially in the production of microbial metabolites,” said Ratna Mukherjea, Ph.D., Technical Fellow and Global Research and Development Leader-Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMO), DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences. “These kind of study approaches can give more understanding on the how HMOs can be utilized by the microbiota with a method that is not invasive, which is important especially in the case of infants.”

OnePoint HCM engages employees with Complete G Suite Integration.

With 2 million+ businesses relying on Google G Suite to power employee communication from enterprise Gmail and collaboration tools, to calendar or secure file storage, OnePoint HCM has introduced seamless integration with Google G Suite. This new integration gives small and mid-sized businesses the ability to engage in-office and remote employees through connecting the Google platforms within the HCM platform.

“Employee experience and communication are a top priority for companies. With OnePoint G Suite integration business can leverage the superior capabilities of both platforms and streamline a number of critical business processes,” says David Miller, OnePoint HCM President. “From automating user provisioning and increased security with single sign-on and user authentication to streamlining communications and strengthening reporting, this integration offers a wide range of benefits by connecting these platforms,” adds Miller.

Starting with recruiting and onboarding, Google Maps lets SMBs list job openings with company-specific information on their Google Maps pin. The Maps app lets HR identify geographic talent pools for more efficient hiring. During the onboarding process, OnePoint user provisioning can create new user accounts automatically reducing IT administration and improving the new hire experience.

These are just some of several new integrations developed for the OnePoint platform. G Suite, in particular, is an example of the trend toward Platform as a Service technology investment. These integrations showcase how modern HCM platforms can create synergies for employees, managers and HR administrators with other business systems that the legacy payroll systems just aren’t able to support.

Take the Google Calendar connection and employee scheduling example. As employee schedules are created in OnePoint they can automatically synch to an employee’s personal google calendar. This eliminates the need for the employee to wait until the schedule is posted to see their assigned shifts. This automation can streamline shift coverage and expedite any changes/swaps that may be necessary.

Aside from scheduling, the G Suite integration is integral in supporting compliance, workforce analytics and HR reporting that companies use every day. The Google Drive integration means HR can schedule and push reports, graphs, timesheet, payroll information, exemption reports, and other critical documents from OnePoint securely into Google Drive while adhering to the permissions structure. This gives your management the regular data needed to monitor issues and prompt alerts; it can even help to make more informed business decisions.

More information on the one point GSuite integration can be found here:

https://onehcm.com/integrations/google-g-suite/

Additional integrations are planned to follow.

About OnePoint HCM and OnePoint Connect:

OnePoint HCM combines a powerful, enterprise-class HR technology with dedicated support services to help companies strengthen and streamline their workforce HCM. The OnePoint HCM platform is a single-database system that unifies employee data, increases productivity, boosts engagement, and simplifies compliance across the entire organization. OnePoint HCM was recently named to HR Tech Outlook’s 2018 Top 10 Workforce Management Solutions.

OnePoint Connect is the API manager from OnePoint HCM that leverages the single employee record to connect to third party products including Microsoft Office 365, Google G Suite, Box.com, Salesforce, Dropbox, and Indeed with more integrations in development.

To be considered for this prestigious award, nominees are required to qualify in a variety of categories, including innovation in organic practices; service to the industry; expansion of organic business opportunities; and overall achievement in the state’s organic trade.

The recipients of the 2019 Oregon Organic Coalition (OOC) Awards for Excellence were presented awards by OOC leadership during a statewide tour of recipient individuals and organizations. Susan Schechter, OOC Board Treasurer, presented LivBar’s award in Salem to CEO Wade Brooks and Director of Marketing and Operations Jessi Freitag.

Brooks said, “LivBar is honored to be recognized by the Oregon Organic Coalition. We take great pride in making our bars organic and hope to use this award to further educate consumers about the benefits of supporting organic products.”

“We’d like to thank the Oregon Organic Coalition for their support of organic companies like LivBar,” Freitag said. “Everyone at LivBar is passionate about living and buying organic and also sustainability practices, such as compostable packaging. LivBar is setting a new standard for energy bars by creating a bar that is made from organic, whole food in a planet-friendly compostable wrapper. LivBar recently publicly challenged energy bar juggernaut CLIF Bar, and the bar community at large, to switch to compostable packaging in addition to all-organic ingredients. LivBar also does not use a co-packer and instead hand-bakes every bar in Oregon, creating and keeping organic product manufacturing jobs in the state.

This latest award for LivBar comes directly on the heels of the company’s nomination as one of the top gluten free snack bars by the Gluten Free Awards and their win as “Entrepreneur of the Year” from SEDCOR. Earlier in the year, LivBar was awarded “Most Mindful Consumer Packaged Good” by the Mindful Awards.

Sentara Home Care Employs Telehealth to Reduce Hospital Readmissions

We believe in the ability of technology to bolster patient care and highly value patient engagement to promote patient independence.

Sentara Home Care Services has achieved a 30-day all-cause readmission rate of 9.09% for their telehealth patients over seven months; 39% lower than the average hospital readmission rate among Medicare patients in Virginia. In December 2018, Sentara Home Care partnered with Health Recovery Solutions, bringing advanced telehealth and remote monitoring to their high-acuity patients.

Patients enrolled in the telehealth program primarily suffer from CHF, COPD, and other chronic conditions. Sentara telehealth patients show an average acuity of 3.62 according to SHP, placing their risk for readmission 25% higher than Sentara’s non-telehealth patients. Sentara’s telehealth program has maintained an average patient satisfaction score of over 90% from January through June of this year.

Sentara attributes the telehealth program’s success to the care continuum set up by the clinical team. The telehealth clinical team leverages the use of a centralized care model and careful clinical documentation to ensure communication across providers and quality care for all patients.

Patients are enrolled in Sentara’s telehealth program following a direct physician referral or home health nurse assessment. Once enrolled, patients receive a 4G tablet, pre-loaded with HRS’ software, and a suite of Bluetooth devices to record their vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, and heart rate. Via the tablet, patients also have access to educational videos and quizzes, daily symptom surveys, and medication reminders. Patient data, from biometric readings to survey and quiz answers, are forwarded in real-time from the patient’s tablet to the clinicians’ dashboard at Sentara’s central office.

Sentara’s centralized care model places a dedicated team of nurses at the core of the care team. The primary responsibility of the nursing team is to monitor the vital signs and health status of patients on the telehealth program. The telehealth nurses collaborate directly with nurses and physicians when an intervention is required to mitigate a patient’s symptoms or prevent an ED visit or hospitalization.

When a patient’s vitals fall out of normal range, the central telehealth team contacts the patient immediately to retest the patient’s vital signs and document any additional symptoms. An intervention is deemed necessary if the patient’s vital sign abnormalities persist, prompting the central telehealth team to contact the patient’s nurse, as well as send a trending report to the patient’s physician.

The tablet and telehealth software provided by HRS enable continuous communication between patient, clinician, and caregiver through voice calling, three-way video conferencing, and text messaging platforms. In recent months, Sentara’s telehealth team has significantly increased the use of text messaging to improve patient engagement, resulting in monthly patient satisfaction scores over 90%.

“We have experienced an increase in patient engagement when patients utilize all features of the system, i.e. those patients reviewing their disease-specific educational sessions tend to be more engaged in their care, said Kim Bradley, Nurse Executive and Director of Clinical Services at Sentara Home Care. “We believe in the ability of technology to bolster patient care and highly value patient engagement to promote patient independence.”

“Sentara’s Telehealth Team is capitalizing on the full capabilities of a telehealth and remote monitoring platform through their detailed clinical documentation, use of text messaging, and implementation of a centralized telehealth model, resulting in fewer hospital readmissions and healthier patients,” added Nolan Santosa, Director of Client Success at HRS.

The specific breathing exercises are comprised of evidence-based scientifically proven principles, exercises and techniques from numerous methodologies to form one unique comprehensive program.

Breath Control is based upon three main pillars:

  • Biochemistry and composition of the blood
  • Biomechanics of ventilation and functional breathing patterns
  • Psychology and motivational techniques

Breath Control is heavily influenced by scientifically proven Western medical science and psychotherapy techniques while incorporating elements of ancient Eastern practices and philosophies. The Breath Control method is a somatic based therapy that strengthens the coordination between the respiratory system and the nervous system.

Through breathwork, a link can be created between body and mind that enables a person to control stress, increase energy, increase physical and mental performance, alleviate pain, improve health and enhance happiness.

“The breath is the horse and the mind is the rider.”

The average person will breathe 20,000-30,000 times each day and most only utilize 60%-70% of each breath. We waste up to 40% of the body’s main energy supply by inefficient, dysfunctional breathing patterns.

“How we breathe is how we feel, how we breathe is how we live. If we are not breathing fully how can we expect to feel good, feel complete and experience life to it’s fullest.”

Breathing is our #1 source of energy; arguably more important than food or water, yet the breath is often over-looked. Attention to nutrition and hydration is obviously critical to maintaining optimal health but emphasis on breathing should be the paramount priority.

Functional breathing techniques cleanse your body of unwanted waste products, the lungs are strengthened and the immune system is harmonized. Thoughts calm down which enables control over stress levels, pulse is lowered and more energy is acquired to improve resilience and allow clients to reach their full potential. Breath Control training can help clients achieve this in everyday life, while recovering from illness or injuries, at home, at work, for sport performance or in the line of duty.
