CONVERGE CFD Software Allows for Massive Scalability and Improved Accuracy with Release of Version 3.0

https://www.prweb.com/

Simulation of flow and combustion in a multi-cylinder spark-ignition engine. Improved load balancing and reduced memory in CONVERGE 3.0 allow you to run large cases quickly.

At the end of the day, CONVERGE 3.0 opens the door to larger, faster, and more diverse simulations than ever before.

Convergent Science has released the highly anticipated new version of their computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, CONVERGE 3.0. CONVERGE 3.0 builds on previous versions with new features, enhancements, and expanded capabilities. One of the most notable enhancements in CONVERGE 3.0 is a dramatic improvement in scaling—users will see significant speedup when running the software on large numbers of processors.

“In CONVERGE 3.0, we switched from partitioning the domain on blocks coarser than the solution grid to partitioning the solution grid directly,” says Keith Richards, co-owner of Convergent Science and one of the principal developers of CONVERGE. “This allows us to get a good load balance for any solution mesh, including those with very high levels of embedding, and means CONVERGE scales well even on thousands of cores.”

The way CONVERGE stores information during simulation runtime has also been modified in version 3.0, resulting in a greatly reduced memory footprint. Additionally, CONVERGE’s post-processor, Tecplot for CONVERGE, is more seamlessly integrated into the software, creating a smoother workflow for users.

CONVERGE 3.0 offers more flexibility in meshing than previous versions. With autonomous meshing, CONVERGE automatically generates an optimized Cartesian mesh at runtime. In 3.0, users can optionally incorporate an inlaid mesh in a region of the grid to obtain accurate results with fewer cells. Inlaid meshes can be aligned with the flow direction to reduce numerical viscosity, or users can refine the mesh in only one or two directions instead of all three. This allows users to accurately resolve boundary layers, for example, at a reduced computational cost by increasing mesh resolution only normal to the wall.

Among the new features in CONVERGE are two new combustion models. The thickened flame model for use in conjunction with LES (TFM-LES) is useful for simulations with large differences in length scales, like resolving the flame front in a boiler. The second new model, SAGE PDF, accounts for turbulence-chemistry interactions in flames modeled with RANS.

CONVERGE’s chemistry capabilities have also been enhanced in version 3.0. The SAGE detailed chemistry solver has seen significant speedup, especially for large reaction mechanisms, making CONVERGE one of the fastest chemistry solvers on the market. In addition, CONVERGE 3.0 includes numerous new chemistry tools, including new 0D chemical reactors, a new 1D flamespeed solver, and enhanced tools for manipulating chemical mechanisms.

“At the end of the day,” says Richards, “CONVERGE 3.0 opens the door to larger, faster, and more diverse simulations than ever before.”

Unruly Launches Active Play Coding Program for Elementary and Middle Schools

Kids using Unruly Splats in Classroom

Kids using Unruly Splats in Classroom

“We design our experiences to include physical play at the core of coding with classmates. Kids naturally create their own games on the playground, so we want to bring their creativity and rule-making to learning the fundamentals of code.”

Edtech company, Unruly Studios, is bringing their passion for combining physical activity with learning the basics of coding to schools. This Fall, the company launched their one-of-a-kind STEM learning tool and school bundles in schools across the US and Canada.

To encourage kids to be active while they code rather than sitting at a desk, the company created Unruly Splats – super-durable, programmable devices that light up, make sounds, and sense when they are stomped on. Students code Splats using the company’s block-coding app on a Chromebook or tablet to create their own games and play them with classmates. Students have created fun-to-play games like radioactive whack-a-mole, animal relay races, and obstacle courses around school desks to name a few.

Bryanne Leeming, CEO of Unruly said, “We originally envisioned Splats as a way for kids to learn to code at home, but since we announced the product earlier this year, we have had an incredible response from schools. We learned that teachers and principals are looking for an affordable, effective STEM tool and their students love the idea of programming games.”

While visiting elementary and middle schools, Leeming noticed that coding tools like robots and other STEM products frequently sitting unused on a shelf gathering dust.

Leeming explained, “I talked to over 150 principals who told me that many of their teachers are not experienced in computer programming or have never been trained to teach it. As a result, many STEM tools go underutilized. We realized there was a need for ongoing training and just-in-time support to help teachers integrate coding and STEM into their existing curriculum. To meet this need, we created a school plan that bundles our Splats and block coding app with live online training, lesson plans, support videos, and an online community where teachers can share and learn from each other.”

Throughout the development of Unruly Splats and the school plans, Leeming worked closely with Dr. Amon Millner, Olin College professor and co-founder of Scratch, a block-coding language developed at the MIT Media Lab. He played a key role in developing the block-coding system on the Unruly Splats App and provided insights into the needs of educators. Millner also helped create a series of video tutorials for educators using Unruly Splats to familiarize them with the Unruly App and the basics of coding concepts.

Millner explained, “We design our experiences to include physical play at the core of coding with classmates. Kids naturally create their own games on the playground, so we want to bring their creativity and rule-making to learning the fundamentals of code” We also developed a growing library of lesson plans that align with NGSS, CSTA, and PE standards for grades 1-7 to ensure that our offerings add value to a variety of school experiences.”

To kick off the launch of their school plans, Unruly is announcing a Twitter sweepstakes contest open to any school teacher or administrator in the US and Canada. They are giving away a 12-Splat 1-Year School Plan valued at $1,200. The contest is held on their twitter account and runs until October 31st, 2019.

Unruly Studios has already seen the contest take off in the first few days. Leeming stated, “It’s been great to see enthusiastic entries from teachers and hear their creative ideas for Splats! For example, we have had a ton of excitement from PE teachers who are thrilled to bring Splats to their PE classes.”

About Unruly Studios: Unruly Studios is an edtech company that empowers students to learn critical STEM skills through active, social recess-style play! Their flagship product, Unruly Splats, are super-durable, programmable devices that light up, make sounds, and sense when they are stomped on. Splats were designed as an affordable school-wide tool that integrates easily into a variety of elementary and middle school learning spaces, including: STEM, PE, Technology classes, Libraries, After-School Programs, and Makerspaces.

Grow Closer to God by Reading Robert McArthur’s One-Year Daily Devotional, Prayers After God’s Own Heart

News Image

“I made the decision to publish this devotional as an encouragement to others to join me on their own personal journey into intimate relationship with God…There are great benefits to praying prayers that are drawn from the Word of God, because His Word is His will for your life.”

Prayers After God’s Own Heart is a compilation of daily devotionals written by Robert McArthur after committing himself to writing prayers based on God’s Word. The author asks readers to read every biblical passage and personal reflection out loud, this process said to be more effective in helping people focus on each message and allot a few moments of silence to listen to Him. When people develop these good habits, they can build and maintain a more intimate relationship with the Almighty.

In his reflections, the author seeks protection from the evil influences of the enemy so that nothing can get in between him and God’s truth. He acknowledges that the flesh is weak even if the spirit is strong and willing, and he prays for strength against overwhelming odds that may otherwise leave room for doubting His love. This way, everyone has the opportunity to rise above their sins and change for the better, which is what the Lord intends for all His children.

“I made the decision to publish this devotional as an encouragement to others to join me on their own personal journey into intimate relationship with God.” Robert McArthur also explains that, even though each person has a unique experience in relating with the Lord, it does not at all diminish his or her potential to love Him more deeply. “I trust that you will discover that there are great benefits to praying prayers that are drawn from the Word of God, because His Word is His will for your life, just as much as it is for mine.”

Robert McArthur’s daily devotional does not require a person to be well-versed in the Scripture to be able to understand its words. Instead, it welcomes even the undevout members of society and encourages them to take it one step at a time to learn more about God’s Word. He urges people to open their hearts and minds so they can hear the Lord speaking to them. The author also says to look beyond the humdrum of everyday problems, appreciate the beauty of the world He created, and do everything to protect and preserve it as God has tasked mankind to do.

According to the devotional, when a person’s heart is full of love for God and absolutely surrender to His Will, there will be no room for envy, hate, or any form of evil to take root. This way, everyone can follow the example of Christ and be more like Him, which proves the ultimate triumph of good over evil on the day of Christ’s return.

“Remind me that good will always win over evil in the end, and help me to rest in the wonderful hope that if I remain surrendered to Your will, You will set all things right—every hurt, every offense, every injustice—according to the perfect timing of the working of Your plan, in order that You will receive the most glory.”
