Attorney Rajeev K. Bajaj Examines Essential Measures to Take When Accused of a Crime

News Image

If you’re arrested outside of your home, do not volunteer to go back inside your home as that gives them consent to enter and search your home.

Being accused of a crime can be a traumatic experience. “First and foremost, I firmly believe that anyone facing criminal charges should research criminal defense lawyers who will fight aggressively for them,” said Bajaj, founder of the Law Offices of Rajeev K. Bajaj. “A lot of people think they don’t need an attorney and can handle the situation themselves, and that the police aren’t really going to arrest them. But you definitely need an attorney.”

To further educate people facing criminal charges, Bajaj shares the following three essential steps:

No. 1: Remain silent. It is imperative when accused of a crime that one exercise their constitutional right to remain silent. “You should never talk to the police or friends or family,” stressed Bajaj. “Do not contact the police about the case — let the lawyer handle that. Anything you say to the police will most likely be used against you.”

No. 2: Hire an attorney before speaking to anyone. An attorney knows the process and how to deal with the police. However, do not hire an attorney that guarantees results, because they can’t guarantee anything. “Statements like that and ‘We’ve won every case’ are not true,” noted Bajaj. “Meet the attorney in person and get a feel for them, and ask family and friends if they can recommend an attorney.”

No. 3: Never consent to a search. If one doesn’t consent, the authorities need to get a warrant. “The police could find something completely unrelated and this gives them a reason to charge you with something else,” concluded Bajaj. “If you’re arrested outside of your home, do not volunteer to go back inside your home as that gives them consent to enter and search your home.”

For this holiday season, the Law Offices of Rajeev K. Bajaj will be hosting a holiday toy donation drive for Toys for Tots. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at 3245 West Fullerton Ave., Chicago, IL from November 1 through December 6.

Toys for Tots, whose mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys each holiday season and distribute them as Christmas gifts to children in need, is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which distributes toys to children who may not otherwise receive a gift for Christmas.

Senior Citizen Lawyer Dustin MacFarlane Examines High Cost of Caring for Seniors

News Image

Most people cannot afford this. Unfortunately, when families cannot afford to pay for these needed medical expenses they oftentimes deplete their hard-earned assets, retirement accounts and principal residences to pay for the care that is required for someone they love.

Caring for an elderly loved one suffering from a catastrophic illness or disease, such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, heart disease, stroke or Multiple Sclerosis, can be very expensive and all-consuming. In fact, according to a study by the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 16 percent of women caregivers and 6 percent of men take a less demanding job to care for a loved one, and 12 percent of women and 3 percent of men quit work altogether. AARP research further notes this can lead to a loss of $304,000 in wages and benefits on average over a lifetime.

“Most people cannot afford this,” said elder law attorney Dustin MacFarlane, founder of Senior Citizen Lawyer. “Unfortunately, when families cannot afford to pay for these needed medical expenses they oftentimes deplete their hard-earned assets, retirement accounts and principal residences to pay for the care that is required for someone they love.”

Keep in mind that the vast majority of seniors and older people enter their “Golden Years” without a strategy or plan to protect their hard-earned assets from having to be depleted to pay for long-term health care expenses. Furthermore, if assets are depleted to pay for long-term care or extended hospital stays, there will be nothing left in one’s estate to leave family members, loved ones and children. “This can be devastating to most seniors and their families for years to come,” added MacFarlane.

Although a small percentage of seniors and their families can afford to spend thousands of dollars a day on private nursing and long-term care, a great number of families will lose most, if not all, of their assets and savings in a matter of months paying for these expenses. “Protecting family assets and preparing for your future and the future of your children is Senior Citizen Lawyer’s top priority and what we do best,” concluded MacFarlane. “We have 10 years of unique legal experience and know how to help you and your loved ones protect assets and family legacies for generations to come.”

Reservoire Health Launches Copeify, an Anonymous App for Student Health and Happiness

Ana Bartkiewicz, Copeify Creator and Author of “Struggle Happy”

Young people and those who teach them need to increase their coping capacities and life-skill intelligence in a more regular and accessible way, with complete privacy.

Reservoire Health, the veteran-backed health intelligence network today announces the immediate distribution of Copeify, a 100% anonymous self-care and life-skills application for high schools, colleges and universities. The machine learning application requires no student profile and is designed to help students and faculty grow their life-skills and coping capabilities, pursue happiness and health, and reduce frequency of depression, addiction and anxiety.

The unique model encourages adoption amongst a community that is sensitive to how they are perceived by others and provides a way to explore self-care without being judged. Copeify was originally conceived by a high school student as a way for her peers and teachers to anonymously receive daily notifications and content about nutrition, motivation, health and mindfulness. The use of anonymity to mobilize wellness and mental fitness intelligence goes against the grain of data-hungry networks like Facebook and Google who are getting into health tech with growing data privacy concerns.

“Everyone in school struggles, even faculty, because both life and learning are naturally challenging and competitive,” said Ana Bartkiewicz, inventor of Copeify and student at Miss Porter’s School. “I observed that these personal challenges of stress, identity and academics were quite universal to everyone, and that life-skills were actually available out there if we could find a better way to deliver them easily to the academic environment and without kids feeling the pressure to share anything.”

Copeify leverages the sciences of self-care skills and personal development, coupled with character and lifestyle tips, to help people in an academic environment thrive and improve their personal resilience. The national mandate for distributing life-skills and personal development has grown dramatically with the increased and historic rates of teenage depression, addiction, obesity and hopelessness.

  • 1 in 5 college students have anxiety or depression (Mayo Clinic)
  • Suicide rates have increased 56% from 2007 to 2017 (Centers for Disease Control)
  • 250 million children worldwide forecast to be obese by 2030 (WHO)
  • Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) impact 34% of a child’s health outcomes (HealthIT)

“Young people and those who teach them need to increase their coping capacities and life-skill intelligence in a more regular and accessible way, with complete privacy,” said Major General Malcolm Frost, U.S. Army Retired, the newest Advisory Board member of veteran-backed Reservoire Health. “Copeify provides a regular flow of life-skill tools specific to individual needs. This unique, intelligent and anonymous platform allows kids/young adults and faculty to meet and interact in the same channel so they can thrive in an academic environment.”

Copeify optimizes the 12 key components of resilience and readiness for navigating the years of adolescence and higher education. Without needing a profile or any personal information, Copeify delivers the motivation and means to help students and faculty thrive with:

  • Daily notifications on the aspects of coping and character, health and happiness.
  • Embedded articles and videos about healthy lifestyles, social skills and emotional intelligence.
  • CopeIQ meters that help one track experiential times for measuring their growth in coping skills.

The first version of Copeify beta is already being used by students and faculty in 17 high schools and colleges, such as Avon Old Farms, Miss Porters School, Harlem’s Renaissance School, Bentley College, West Point, Northeastern, Boston College and U Miami.

Copeify is now available to high schools, colleges and universities, and the organizations that support them. Reservoire and Copeify are subsidiary brands of Patriapps Veterans Software Studios.

Israel’s Compulsory Vehicle Insurance Pool selects InsFocus BI as its reporting and analytics system

The Pool, the corporation that manages the Israel’s compulsory vehicle insurance pool and is jointly owned by all Israeli insurance companies has contracted with InsFocus for business intelligence solutions. The Pool was established to provide compulsory insurance for vehicle owners unable to obtain insurance coverage with commercial companies. The insurance risk of Pool policies is shared between all insurance companies writing compulsory vehicle insurance in proportion to their market share. As such the Pool faces unique challenges and needs a robust BI tool to analyze data.

The Pool insures close to 250,000 vehicles a year. Of those vehicles, over half are private, about 40% are motorcycles (the majority of motorcycles in Israel are insured with the Pool) and the rest are other vehicle types. The Pool services the public via a call center, eight branch offices spread throughout the country and its corporate website.

Eran Cohen, Pool CEO: “We decided to use the BI system to improve our ability to analyze data and gain organizational efficiencies. Our decision-making process primarily needs to be based on high quality, timely and reliable data. We believe InsFocus’ insurance-BI system will serve Pool’s management, be the basis for actuarial analysis, and support the claims and underwriting departments in their day to day work.”

InsFocus is a specialized BI software system for insurance companies based on an insurance data model that contains a comprehensive set of insurance measurements, KPI’s and ready-made reports. The system is used by many insurance companies in Israel and around the world. InsFocus is a private company owned by the Taiber family, one of the oldest families in the insurance industry in Israel.

Uri Taiber, InsFocus founder and CEO: “For over a decade, InsFocus has been delivering advanced data warehousing and business intelligence services to insurance companies in Israel and abroad based on its insurance data model combined with an insurance-dedicated BI software system. The company constantly improves its insurance model and software platform based on insurance clients’ feedback. Our aim is to maintain a technological edge and leverage it to be the preferred BI solution in the insurance community worldwide.”

Workit Health’s Digital Addiction Care Joins the Aetna Network

Health plans play a vital role in improving access to quality addiction care via telehealth, and we’re proud Aetna is giving their members more options at their moment of readiness to get help.

Workit Health, the nation’s leading provider of digital addiction care, including telemedicine for opioid use disorder, is now an in-network provider with Aetna Behavioral Health. Workit Health’s online addiction care program offers therapy and medication management from licensed clinicians in California and Michigan.

On a pilot basis, fully insured Aetna members in California and Michigan can now receive treatment from Workit Health’s web and phone apps, including therapy from licensed counselors and a personalized curriculum of evidence-based interactive courses, without a referral. For example, Aetna members who are struggling with addiction such as opioid use disorder can sign up by phone or the app, subject to standard cost sharing, to have access to Workit Health’s Clinic program, which offers low-barrier buprenorphine via telemedicine after a single in-person visit to a Workit clinic or a clinic recommended by Workit. Recovery groups, video clinician visits and drug testing are all completed in Workit Health’s apps.

”The Workit Health team looks forward to delivering results for Aetna members,” says Workit Health’s Co-CEO, Lisa McLaughlin. “We’re proud that Aetna has recognized our commitment to providing better outcomes at lower costs for its members.”

“More than 130 people die of opioid overdose per day, so time is of the essence in expanding access to clinically-proven digital addiction care like Workit Health,” says Robin McIntosh, Workit Health’s Co-CEO. “Health plans play a vital role in improving access to quality addiction care via telehealth, and we’re proud Aetna is giving their members more options at their moment of readiness to get help.”

“We are committed to easy access to evidence-based care for our members suffering from addiction,” said Cara McNulty, DPA, President, Aetna Behavioral Health. “Workit Health allows us to continue to expand the digital solutions we provide to our members, which remove barriers to care and help members receive high-quality care more conveniently. We look forward to working with Workit Health on this pilot.”

Overdose is a leading cause of accidental death in the United States, but many high-cost treatment programs don’t use evidence-based therapy or medication to treat addiction. Workit Health has been the industry leader in expanding access to quality addiction care via telemedicine since 2015. The company was founded by two experienced founders in long-term recovery, and has been working with national clinical experts and organizations since its foundation, including Itai Danovitch, MD, the Commissioner of California’s Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. Both the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse have awarded Workit Health grants.

Workit Health’s Clinic program launched as a direct response to the opioid crisis, and offers two of the three FDA-approved medications to treat opioid addiction via telehealth. After a single in-person visit, members continue buprenorphine care via video visits with a clinician and a licensed care team. After success in Michigan and Northern California, Workit Health launched an additional clinic in Bakersfield, California. Workit Health partners with a diverse group of large self-insured employers, providers, and payers to bring quality addiction care to those who need it most.

About Workit Health

Workit Health is a Joint Commission-accredited B-Corporation offering online, on-demand evidence-based addiction treatment including telemedicine medication for opioid use disorder. We partner with healthcare organizations to deliver an innovative digital health solution that blends the best of human-centered design, technology, and science. Through our mobile and web apps, members meet with clinicians and counselors, join recovery groups, and complete self-set recovery goals. Our interactive curriculum of online courses keep members on track in the comfort of home. We offer 24/7 recovery that fits into daily life, designed by experts.
