ShoreView Moving and Storage and Bayshore Help Deliver Over 112,000 Pounds of Food to Local Food Banks

ShoreView Moving and Storage and Bayshore teamed up with Move for Hunger in May to deliver thousands of pounds of non-perishable foods to families in need as part of the 27th annual Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive.

The two moving companies received donations collected by postal workers in May 2019 during their local mail routes. The moving teams at Shoreview and Bayshore helped to transport over 112,000 pounds of non-perishable goods from the Stamp Out Hunger® food drive this summer, equivalent to 93,000 meals.

According to Move for Hunger, an organization that connects moving companies to communities in need, food banks face their greatest need during Summer months when low-income children are no longer receiving free or reduced cost meals from school. Summer being “moving season”, is the best time for moving companies to collect the greatest amount of non-perishable food items. Movers, like ShoreView, ask their customers to set aside any non-perishable foods that the families are not bringing with them to their new home.

The Stamp Out Hunger campaign allows letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities across the U.S. collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and at local post offices every second Saturday in May. Moving companies like ShoreView and Bayshore donated their time to ensure these donations reach communities in need by delivering the food items to local food banks.

Last Call for “Holiday in Humboldt with Hard Luck Mfg. and Friends”

Flyer for Holiday in Humboldt

At “Holiday in Humboldt,” skaters from the local community will join forces with special guests from other parts of California to raise funds for new skateparks in Humboldt County

“Events like Holiday in Humboldt boost the economy and enhance our community,” said Hannah Whyte, Emerald Queen Farms. “We live in Humboldt and are always thinking about ways to help to capture more visitor dollars and enable our rural community to thrive.”

Humboldt Skatepark Collective, along with numerous business sponsors, will host its annual fundraiser, “Holiday in Humboldt with Hard Luck Mfg. and Friends,” on Saturday, September 14 from 10:00 am-6:00 pm PT at Cooper’s Gulch Skatepark, 1720 10th Street in Eureka, CA.

“Humboldt Skatepark Collective is developing a more robust network of skateparks on the North Coast, and boosting awareness of skateboarding as an outdoor recreational sport in Humboldt County,” said Charlie Caldwell, Executive Director, Humboldt Skatepark Collective. “With skateboarding scheduled to debut in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, the time has never been better to spread the word about skateboarding as a well-respected and fully embraced sport in Humboldt.”

At Holiday in Humboldt, skaters from the local community will join forces with special guests from other parts of California to raise funds for new skateparks in Humboldt County. The event will feature a professional skating demonstration with a number of high-profile skaters, such as Jason Jessee, Jaws (Aaron Homoki), Evan Smith, Monica Torres, Wes Kremer, Jake Brown, Kiade Huston, Jimmy Cao, Figgy, Chelsea Castro, Chris Blake, Janthavy, Eli Williams, Brian (Slash) Henson, Ethan Loy and many more special guests.

The “Holiday in Humboldt” event is sponsored by a number of leading skate brands, including Hard Luck, Thrasher Magazine, Santa Cruz/NHS Fun Factory, Toy Machine, Vans and Ace Trucks, as well as a number of high-quality craft cannabis producers from Humboldt County, including Emerald Queen Farms, Barrett Farms, Aloha Humboldt, Trinity Sungrown Humboldt Terp Council, Papa and Barkley, and True Humboldt.

“Holiday in Humboldt is our 2nd annual competition and fundraiser, we know from last year’s success that this will become an anticipated event going forward,” said Hannah Whyte, Emerald Queen Farms. “Calling the fundraiser ‘Holiday in Humboldt’ is a play on how we are working to bring the skate community together off the beaten path for a trip to Humboldt, reckoning our community a destination for all things outdoors, including skating. The North Coast is such a beautiful place to live, and this is just one more reason to visit. Events like Holiday in Humboldt boost the economy and enhance our community. We live in Humboldt and care deeply about the health and success of the community, so we are always thinking about ways we can help to capture more visitor dollars and enable our rural community to thrive. This event is about furthering the collective good.”

The event will include a competition for local skaters, along with great food, local craft beer, and music. Dj Goldilocks will be pumping the tunes all Saturday at the event. North town coffee will provide the food for Saturday with beer from Redwood Curtain and Mad River brewery. It’s Alive kombucha will be serving local brew kombucha and Pharlee will play the after party, along with Oakland favorite Elderly Abuse.

The mission of Humboldt Skatepark Collective is to develop a more robust network of skateparks on the North Coast, and boost awareness of skateboarding as an outdoor recreational sport in Humboldt County. Proceeds will go toward building new skateparks in Humboldt, park enhancements and expansions at Willow Creek and other locations, and providing skateboards, helmets, and other gear for kids.
