Catalent and Grünenthal Announce Successful Collaboration to Facilitate Expedited Clinical Development Timelines

[ad_1]

Working with Grünenthal, we have been able to leverage multiple services that have not only reduced Phase 1 development timelines substantially, but have done so using a formulation and delivery technology that is scalable for future clinical and commercial needs as the program progresses.

Catalent, the leader in enabling the development and supply of better treatments for patients worldwide, and Grünenthal, an international science-driven pharmaceutical company and a global leader in pain research and management, today announced their successful formulation design and clinical-phase manufacturing collaboration for an orally dosed small molecule in Grünenthal’s pipeline.

Positive preclinical results from the molecule have allowed Grünenthal to progress its development program to first-in-human studies. In this phase, Catalent supported Grünenthal with the development of a bioavailability enhanced formulation, which, moving forward, enables expedited clinical development timelines.

The two companies have been working together on this program since 2021. Catalent has assisted Grünenthal in reformulating the molecule using a lipid-based drug delivery system formulated in softgel technology to improve its bioavailability. Scientific experts at Catalent’s facilities in Beinheim, France, and Nottingham, U.K., carried out this development work using its OptiForm Solution Suite® platform, which allowed the rapid characterization and screening of dose forms and formulation technologies to optimize dose design.

Phase 1 studies of the molecule will be supported by scientists from Beinheim using the Catalent Xpress Pharmaceutics™ platform, which provides rapid development of clinical formulations and on-demand manufacturing of dose forms at the clinical research organization undertaking the trials. Trials will be run for both single ascending dose (SAD) and multiple ascending dose (MAD) studies based on the real-time results of the adaptive study protocol.

“The OptiForm Solution Suite provides an efficient approach to expedite innovative candidates into first-in-human studies. It does this through assessing a broad range of technical solutions to identify the most suitable formulation for the specific candidate,” said Stephan Bulat, Head of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls at Grünenthal. “The Catalent Xpress Pharmaceutics platform provides the flexibility to efficiently manage our candidates through early clinical development studies, supporting our ambition to achieve best-in-class development timelines.”

“With innovators demanding shortened drug development timeframes, Catalent offers a number of integrated solutions to ensure programs can be accelerated to, and through, clinical phases as quickly and safely as possible, while providing design and delivery technology support to give molecules the greatest chance of success,” said Ricky Hopson, President, Division Head for Clinical Development and Supply, Catalent. “Working with Grünenthal, we have been able to leverage multiple services that have not only reduced Phase 1 development timelines substantially, but have done so using a formulation and delivery technology that is scalable for future clinical and commercial needs as the program progresses.”

Grünenthal is dedicated to creating innovative non-opioid pain treatments that address unmet medical needs. For R&D, Grünenthal executes a distinctive therapeutic area strategy and focuses on four key pain indications: peripheral neuropathic pain, chronic post-surgical pain, chronic low back pain, and osteoarthritis. Grünenthal seeks collaborations in these areas to develop life-changing treatments for patients, independent of the modality and their stage of development. To date, the company has launched six treatment options for patients suffering from pain.

About Grünenthal

Grünenthal is a global leader in pain management and related diseases. As a science-based, privately-owned pharmaceutical company, we have a long track record of bringing innovative treatments and state-of-the-art technologies to patients worldwide. Labor First Rebrands to RetireeFirst, Reflecting its Commitment to Preserving and Enhancing Retiree Benefits

[ad_1]

RetireeFirst Logo

RetireeFirst Logo

Under the RetireeFirst name and with our new brand identity, we look forward to offering our labor, public sector, and commercial clients and partners new services and solutions designed to better meet their needs and the needs of their retired members.

Labor First, a group retiree Medicare benefit manager that serves labor unions, public sector entities, and commercial organizations, today announced its rebrand as RetireeFirst. LaborFirst will become a division of RetireeFirst, recognizing its valued heritage in the labor market.

Although the company name is changing, the organization remains exactly the same with respect to management and personnel, solutions and services offered, client and partner base, and retiree healthcare plans. The driving force behind the rebrand was to create a refreshed brand identity to convey the company’s position as the leading group Retiree Benefit Management solutions and retiree advocacy service provider across all markets it serves.

Founded in 2005, Labor First quickly made a name for itself as a valuable partner that manages every aspect of group retiree healthcare benefit administration – from plan design and selection to plan implementation and ongoing management, creating a better experience for plan sponsors and helping to improve health outcomes for retired members. Now, as RetireeFirst, the company is building on that legacy. In addition to its new name, the company has launched a new logo, website, mission, and vision, focused on preserving and enhancing retiree benefits while reducing costs and administrative burden – ultimately driving significant value for all stakeholders the company works with, including plan sponsors and their Medicare-eligible retirees, benefit consultants and brokers, and insurance carriers.

“Since our inception, we have remained highly focused on addressing our clients’ most pressing needs – reducing the costs and liability associated with post-retirement health benefits without sacrificing the benefits retirees have worked their whole lives for. This focus and dedication has not changed. Rather, we’re intensifying our efforts,” said John P. Dulczak, Chief Executive Officer, RetireeFirst. “Under the RetireeFirst name and with our new brand identity, we look forward to offering our labor, public sector, and commercial clients and partners new services and solutions designed to better meet their needs and the needs of their retired members.”

Over the last five years, RetireeFirst has experienced significant growth, maintaining an impressive client retention rate of 100% and achieving an annual net promoter score (NPS) above 90, a significantly higher ranking than the healthcare industry average of 58.

“The strengthening of our brand and positioning in healthcare benefits comes at a critical time in our company’s life cycle. Never before has the industry been so complex, with costs rising, the Medicare landscape ever evolving, and plan sponsors challenged with managing benefits budgets and risks while making sure retiree member needs are met,” said Rick Kaplan, Chief Growth Officer, RetireeFirst. “We know RetireeFirst is the partner our clients need to solve their emerging challenges, as our approach and expertise enables us to develop solutions to meet client needs without sacrificing our people-centric service model.”

[ad_1]

News Image

The AHN Bariatric and Metabolic Institute announced today its bariatric program at AHN Wexford Hospital has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

MBSAQIP works to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation of bariatric surgery centers. AHN Wexford Hospital joins AHN West Penn Hospital and over 900 bariatric surgery centers across the U.S. and Canada with the designation. Each has undergone an independent, voluntary, and rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical quality standards.

Based at West Penn Hospital, the AHN Bariatric and Metabolic Institute extended its program to patients at AHN’s newest full-service hospital last spring. Since then, patients living in communities north of Pittsburgh have had convenient access at AHN Wexford to one of the region’s most experienced clinical teams providing a range of advanced medical and surgical weight loss solutions.

“This achievement is a testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to providing the most advanced, highest quality care available,” said George Eid, MD, chair, AHN Bariatric and Metabolic Institute. “Their commitment has immeasurable impacts on our patients, many of whom are in need of and very much deserve lifesaving care that affords them the opportunity to live healthier, happier lives.”

Some innovative, minimally invasive surgical solutions for obesity and other metabolic diseases offered at AHN Wexford include laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic-sleeve gastrectomy. Certain patients may be candidates for an endoscopic bariatric procedure in which a small, flexible scope is inserted through the patient’s mouth and no incision is made. The endoscopic procedure aims to significantly reduce a patient’s stomach volume and/or alter other parts of the digestive tract.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates about 93 million adults in the U.S. are affected by obesity. Obesity is linked to more than 40 other diseases including Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancer, orthopedic injuries and infertility.

Spanish-language men’s health book offers candid advice from prostate health to a fulfilled sex life, and everything in-between

[ad_1]

For men living in certain areas, access to healthcare for prostate cancer, is limited. It makes no difference where a man lives; skipping annual physicals and prostate cancer is a recipe for disaster.

I want men to know their lives matter and so does their health. I plan to continue to reach and educate as many men as possible about prostate health and remove the stigma associated with prostate cancer.

Men living in Spanish-speaking countries already have a men’s health book of accurate, up-to-date health information on prostate cancer in their language just for them.

Written by Dr. David Samadi, Director of Men’s Health and Urology Oncology at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York, the book is titled, Hablemos De Hombres (Let’s Talk About Men) and subtitled, Todo lo que necesitas saber para mejorar tu salud fisica y sexual (Everything you need to know to improve your physical and sexual health). Hablemos De Hombres was translated to a Spanish-speaking audience from his first book which debuted in 2020, The Ultimate MANual, Dr. Samadi’s Guide to Men’s Health and Wellness.

“I’m very excited to offer my first book on men’s health as a translated rendition for Spanish-speaking men everywhere,” said Dr. Samadi. “For men living in certain areas, access to healthcare, especially for prostate cancer, is limited which concerns me. Unfortunately, one of these areas is the Dominican Republic, a Spanish-speaking country.”

Dr. Samadi explained, “I’ve worked extensively with the Dominican Republic on achieving better health facilities for men. In 2014, I opened the Samadi HOMS Robotic Institute at the Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago,(1) My team and I educate, do research, and perform robotic prostate cancer surgery for men in this area. After my first book, I knew I wanted it translated to Spanish, offering men speaking this language including their wives, girlfriends, mothers, and sisters, a chance to learn about men’s health, particularly prostate health.”

According to the CDC, prostate cancer is the 9th leading cause of death in the Dominican Republic. Besides prostate cancer, no other cancer is listed in the top 10 causes of death in this country. Even though life expectancy and quality of life have improved in this Caribbean country, there is still room for improvement. As of 2019, the life expectancy at birth of men living in the Dominican Republic is 71 years.

“As a prostate cancer surgeon, my focus is on the health of a man’s prostate,” exclaimed Dr. Samadi. “It makes no difference where a man lives; skipping annual physicals and prostate cancer screenings is a recipe for disaster. One reason is the stigma associated with this disease. Some men are uncomfortable of prostate cancer screening procedures like the digital rectal exam or of the prostate’s connection to erectile dysfunction.(2) I tell men, do not delay seeing your doctor when experiencing symptoms of prostate cancer.(3) Get a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test along with a digital rectal exam. These screening tools help find prostate cancer at an earlier, more survivable stage.”

Besides chapters on prostate health and prostate cancer, the book also addresses men’s overall health and wellness. For example, it covers the power of sexual health on men, exercise, healthy eating, sleep, stress, and various male reproductive system issues.

“I want men to know their lives matter and so does their health,” explained Dr. Samadi. He went on to add, “I deeply care about men’s health no matter where they live. It’s been a privilege taking care of men in my career, and I plan to continue to educate men about prostate health and remove the stigma associated with prostate cancer. And the only way that happens is to keep talking about men’s health and why it’s important, which my book does exactly that.”

L.B. Hall Fireproofing Announces Estefania Roa as Its New CEO, Launches New Logo Showcasing Company Values

[ad_1]

L.B. Hall Fireproofing announces Estefania Roa as its new CEO and unveils a new logo representative of its company values as a women-owned business.

“I receive this CEO position with great humility and enthusiasm to continue learning. I’m excited to make this company a gateway for those who seek more, who are willing to give everything with me and create new opportunities that will elevate both the company and our employees.”

L.B. Hall Fireproofing, a minority and women-owned fireproofing company located in Crystal Lake, Illinois, announces that Estefania Roa will become the company’s new CEO. In 2022, Roa became president and owner. She joined the company in 1990 and has been a dedicated partner since.

Founded in 1990, L.B. Hall has decades of experience improving the fireproofing and insulation of homes, hospitals, schools, libraries, hotels, warehouses, churches, office buildings, and many other facilities. L.B. Hall offers services like intumescent fireproofing, cementitious fireproofing, and insulation. It has completed over 6,940 projects serving over 500 clients in the Midwest region.

“I receive this CEO position with great humility and enthusiasm to continue learning,” Roa said. “I’m excited to make this company a gateway for those who seek more, who are willing to give everything with me and create new opportunities that will elevate both the company and our employees. For me, this position comes with a great responsibility to improve my ethics and my way of leading. This role also gives me a chance to prove to myself that in the face of adversity, I will step up to the challenge! I know I am a voice for many women and an inspiration for the next generations.”

Along with Roa becoming CEO, it was also time to create subtle but intentional changes to the company’s logo design to showcase its values. The new logo presents a beautiful phoenix, an immortal bird associated with Greek mythology that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. The bird is flocked with orange, yellow, red, and pink feathers. This new color palette shows L.B. Hall’s pride in being a women-owned business.

The logo also introduced a more “fluid” design.

“The fluid design signifies our understanding that any situation we encounter takes flexibility, adaptability, and continuous learning to be the best that we can be. This design shines in our logo through the addition of ‘movement,’ which represents the ever-changing industry and our adaptability.“
