Workit Health’s Telemedicine Addiction Care a Solution for the Opioid Epidemic, According to JAMA

Workit Health, a telehealth addiction treatment company bringing affordable, evidence-based care to individuals, healthcare organizations, and employers, is featured in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) as a promising solution to fight the opioid crisis.

Over 70% of rural counties disproportionately affected by the overdose crisis lack an opioid use disorder (OUD) medication prescriber – Workit Health is filling this gap in care via telehealth. Rita Ruben’s JAMA article published on August 28th, “Using Telemedicine to Treat Opioid Use Disorder in Rural Areas,” highlights the issues in rural counties where health care professionals aren’t able to treat addiction, and suggests telemedicine as a solution to meet the growing demand.

The JAMA article notes Workit Health as the single company currently connecting prescribers to patients via smartphone app. Programs like Workit Health’s, offering telehealth video visits and online therapy, meet the need for both behavioral health support and medication management required for OUD care, and stand as an underutilized solution for addressing the current crisis. A recent analysis of claims data found relatively low rates of Tele-SUD (substance use disorder) treatment claims, which the authors of the study noted, “Given the severity of the opioid epidemic, low rates of tele-SUD use represent a missed opportunity.”

JAMA talked with Workit Health’s Clinical Advisor Dr. Melody Glenn, who explained the basics of Workit Health’s program: members meet with a clinician in-person, then move to online care via web and phone-apps. Drug testing, online recovery groups, messaging with an expert team, and a personalized set of addiction courses are also included in the program. All follow-up video visits with prescribing clinicians are done via the apps, as well: “It’s a lot like FaceTime,” Glenn explained.

“We’re proud to have our telemedicine work featured in JAMA,” Lisa McLaughlin, Workit Health’s Co-CEO, says. “The studies now show that opioid use disorder treatment with buprenorphine has positive outcomes regardless of visits being in-person or telehealth. We’ve also found this to be the case with our own high rate of patient success.”

“Low-barrier care means helping more people, and saving more lives, so the team is really excited to have JAMA highlight the work we’ve been doing.” Robin McIntosh, Workit Health’s Co-CEO, says. “Lisa, myself, and other Workit staff have lost loved ones to the opioid crisis. We’re connecting experts to those who don’t have rides to treatment, or can’t find childcare.”

Workit Health was founded in 2015 by Robin McIntosh and Lisa McLaughlin, two award-winning entrepreneurs and technologists in long-term addiction recovery themselves, and has since received Joint Commission accreditation for it’s telemedicine addiction therapy program. Workit Health has followed a cohort of it’s telemedicine for OUD program for over a year, with outstanding outcomes: 93% reached abstinence from opioids after the first month in the program, with 84% of them remaining abstinent from opioids after 12 months. It has partnered with the National Science Foundation on a proprietary algorithm to track wellness in recovery, and last year received B Corporation status, solidifying its mission to do social good.

Two Healthy Directions Supplements Named NEXTY Award Finalists for SupplySide West 2019

Healthy Directions LLC, a subsidiary of Adaptive Health, LLC, is proud to announce that two of its nutritional supplement formulas—Omega Q Plus® MAX and LifeBiome® Gut Restore Advanced—were named finalists in the 2019 NEXTY Awards for SupplySide West. NEXTY Awards are considered the premier recognition of excellence in the natural products industry, spotlighting brands and products that demonstrate “innovation, inspiration, and integrity.”

Omega Q Plus® MAX, formulated in conjunction with integrative cardiologist Dr. Stephen Sinatra, combines enhanced forms of omega-3s, CoQ10, turmeric, and chromium with resveratrol, L-Carnitine, and B vitamins to fuel cellular energy and support all aspects of cardiovascular health, including blood sugar and statin drug-related nutrient depletions. Plus, it uses a unique, sustainably sourced omega-3 that eliminates any fishy taste or odor and overcomes the absorption challenges of traditional CoQ10 and turmeric supplements. It’s one of five finalists in the “Best Condition-Specific Supplement” category.

Gut Restore Advanced, formulated with practicing naturopathic physician Dr. Drew Sinatra (Dr. Stephen Sinatra’s son), follows strict “Clean and Green” formulation guidelines, is vegetarian, gluten-free and provides broad microbiome support with 13 billion live probiotics guaranteed in every dose. Unlike traditional probiotic supplements that contain only lactic acid-producing bacteria, Gut Restore Advanced includes 11 different soil-, lactic acid-, and yeast-based strains, along with fermented turmeric, ginger, and chlorella. It was developed with SMART-Release technology that ensures the probiotics reach the gut alive—supporting regularity, less digestive upset, and a boost in mood. It’s one of five finalists in the “Best Digestive Health Product” category.

“When it comes to their health, consumers shouldn’t just have to believe their supplements are making a difference—they should be able to see and feel that difference in their quality of life. That’s why we formulate our products with the highest quality raw materials that have the best clinical research, and we insist on testing at every stage of the manufacturing process,” said Ben Teicher, President of Healthy Directions.

“We know from our customers that all of that effort pays off,” said Teicher. “Now, we’re honored to be recognized nationally alongside other industry leaders for that attention to quality, innovation, and delivering trusted supplements that work.”

Final winners will be announced at the SupplySide West show on Friday, October 18, 2019.

Illinois-Based Marketing Firm Helps Shape the Future of Social Media

News Image

One of the biggest changes to Facebook and other platforms over the last two years is the heavy restrictions they have placed on what can and cannot be in paid ads.

Effective digital marketing is a must in today’s marketplace, and Aurora-Illinois based Strategic & Creative Marketing Inc. (S/C) is at the forefront of the movement. With noticeable expertise in creating paid social marketing campaigns, top online leaders have from Facebook and LinkedIn reached out to S/C’s Director of Social and Digital Marketing, Tami Wloch, requesting her input on their national advisory panels. As a result, Wloch’s contributions and feedback are shaping the direction of social media, while simultaneously providing a strategic advantage to all of her clients.

Currently, Wloch serves on advisory panels for some of the biggest names in social media, including Facebook and LinkedIn. Within this advisory role, she offers customer feedback, product evaluations, and consumer input. This uniquely positions her to gain insight into today’s best social media practices. In turn, Wloch applies this insider knowledge to S/C clients, giving them a leg up in the world of digital marketing.

“One of the biggest changes to Facebook and other platforms over the last two years is the heavy restrictions they have placed on what can and cannot be in paid ads,” Wloch said. “My team and I get updates often from my Facebook contacts about what isn’t allowed. Because of this, about 90% of the time, when we create a post or graphic for a client, it passes the ‘test’ and starts running. Most of the time when clients try to create their own graphics, they do not know the ‘rules’ and their post is rejected with no explanation. If we do get an odd rejection, I can reach out to my Facebook reps and they can approve the post almost immediately, so it starts running.”

Due to their unique insider knowledge, the S/C team crafts dynamic content that achieves better business recognition and product consumption for their clients. This expertise has earned them numerous successful placements in top online platforms, including, CNN, BuzzFeed, Daily Wire, USA Today, BBC News, Huffington Post, Chicago Tribune, RetailMeNot, and Oprah.com.

With demonstrated results, S/C continues to achieve extremely successful audience engagement for both business-to-business and business-to-consumer marketing.

For a 100-year-old law firm client, with zero prior digital marketing experience, S/C generated nearly 25,000 digital impressions in its first month of social media advertising. Today, this same firm regularly receives a 6-7% engagement rate, which has ultimately increased their company’s brand recognition and community engagement.

S/C accomplished similar results in their business-to-consumer marketing approach, where they aided a home inspection company owner in increasing his online visibility by 7,000 views in just a few weeks. Today, his company regularly achieves 8-15% audience engagement.

“The average engagement rate on social media is .05% so our numbers are huge in comparison,” Wloch said.

“It’s absolutely important for every company to maintain a social media presence,” Wloch emphasized. “And now with recent changes on the platforms and increased restrictions, organic posts are not reaching audiences as they did in the past. So, businesses must implement ad buys to reach targeted audiences on social media. We are experts in using the AI (Artificial Intelligence) software to reach the exact individuals that clients want to speak to! We pride ourselves in crafting the right message and reaching the right audience to increase awareness and sales for our clients.”

United Methodist Agency CEO Opens Up About His Breakdown

Everyone needs to keep their soul hydrated and healthy in order to lead well.

Everything was fine … until it wasn’t. Junius Dotson’s new book, Soul Reset, details a candid account of the former pastor’s journey through grief, depression, burnout, emotional breakdown, and his journey to wholeness. Dotson’s journey has led him on a path of sharing principles and practices with leaders who have the awesome responsibility of guiding people. Whether you are leading a corporate team, a congregation, or your family, everyone needs to keep their soul hydrated and healthy in order to lead well.

“It took an actual breakdown for me to realize that I needed a soul reset,” says Dotson, the General Secretary/CEO of Discipleship Ministries, an international agency of the United Methodist Church. “Understanding that anxiety, depression, and the inability to be vulnerable are leading causes of many problems we face, including suicide, it was imperative for me to come clean as a pastor and person of faith about my wake-up call,” Dotson adds. “My refusal to confront what was facing me created insurmountable anxiety in my life that turned into full-blown depression, and it nearly took me out.”

The title, Soul Reset, echoes the “return to factory settings” option on a computer. Sometimes when a computer – or a life – gets so filled with clutter and extraneous matter, the best solution is a hard reset, a process that restores the device to its original setting.

“It [a breakdown] could happen to the best of us,” explains Dotson. “I bought into the myth that what it took to be a strong leader was to never allow myself to be vulnerable.”

Dotson starts the Soul Reset book tour in Dallas, September 6–8. The appearances include half-day leadership summits, signings, and speaking to leaders and congregations about a plan to reset and reorder their lives around spiritual practices and principles. “We are going to have difficult seasons,” Dotson says. “But learning to walk through those challenging times requires us to be connected to a source greater than ourselves,” he said. The book tour and speaking schedule are available at SoulReset.org.

Chicago Area Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Production Company Releases Video of Immersive VR Experience for Medical Training and Treatment of Medical Disease

“The ability to shrink the user down and put them inside the body–it makes for a very engaging experience, and that’s what ends up making it even more educational.”

Virtual Reality content creation company and studio, 321 Next Reality, http://www.321nextreality.com – 773-542-0730 , based in Chicago, has released a video featuring a VR experience showcasing Crohn’s Disease. The video highlights an interactive VR simulation, during which “players” interact using a virtual reality headset to play a VR game called “Attack of the Crohn’s.” The cheeky name for the interactive VR experience is intended to resonate with audiences within the Crohn’s community–audiences who want to know more about the why’s and how’s associated with this particular intestinal ailment. Training and education for many of today’s top industries are being transformed using cutting edge immersive technology, such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.

Today, some of the largest and most well-know companies such as Walmart, Boeing, UPS, BMW, Lowe’s and Marriott Hotels, to name a few have launched programs utilizing this technology with success. From experiential marketing, prototyping and customer service employee training, brand building, and trade show activations, companies are now fully utilizing the power of augmented, virtual, and mixed reality. Some recent examples include:

  • Walmart, the country’s largest private employer, is using virtual reality headsets to test which employees have the aptitude for middle management positions.
  • Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed a new training center that will aid in onboarding new manufacturing employees in a virtual reality environment.
  • Johnson & Johnson launched a new surgical training program for doctors and nurses using VR headsets
  • Farmer’s Insurance trains its agents how to appraise damages using mixed reality technology
  • Ford designers work in real-time with co-workers living across the country using various mixed reality technology.

But Crohn’s is relatively uncommon. And the public sometimes has a hard time grasping and understanding this particular condition. The original impetus for this custom VR content was, in part, an information campaign. An educational whiteboard video commissioned by a pharma client caught on in the Crohn’s and Colitis communities. Once that video went viral, the same pharmaceutical client wanted to build on their success by creating even more attention-getting media. The team at 321 Next Reality ( https://321nextreality.com ) knew that VR for education and VR for healthcare training made perfect sense. They set out working on the virtual reality expansion of their whiteboard video, called “Attack of the Crohn’s.” As is illustrated in the released video, the simulated VR experience is a perfect avenue to make the complex origins and mechanics of any medical, technical, or other complex concept easy to understand and training fun and easy.

View Youtube video of project – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkqnNZ_pVNA&t=65s

“Making this VR immersive activation was a really easy decision,” said Sal Pecoraro of 321 Next Reality. “The ability to shrink the user down and put them inside the body–it makes for a very engaging experience, and that’s what ends up making it even more educational.” Pecoraro went on to discuss the video itself, which shows aspects of the the VR experience intermixed with conference-goers enjoying that experience. The video was an essential way to show the impact on people who stopped to use the VR experience. “Everyone who put that headset on ended up grinning from ear to ear.”

And that highlights the utility of virtual reality and mixed reality, both as a marketing tool and as an educational platform. From a marketing standpoint, having any content that can capture the attention of targeted demographic groups in an incredibly crowded media marketplace is a significant asset. Virtual reality, due to its relative novelty, will turn heads no matter what. But to have any kind of staying power, it needs to be executed properly. As the video released by 321 Next Reality illustrates really well: VR and AR typically work best when they follow the same basic rule as any other marketing: content is king. That’s why 321 Next Reality has developed a well-earned reputation for creating quality VR content.

The video released by 321 Next Reality is designed to showcase not only the engagement generated by the VR content, but also the level of graphic power and technology involved. In part because of the release of VR gaming systems such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, consumers have very high expectations when it comes to the quality and interactivity of VR experiences. One of the reasons why VR technology is being utilized so much–these stories are so beautiful and gorgeous to look at. In part, that’s because the technology has really reached a place where we can be quite artistic with it.

The video about the Crohn’s disease VR experience is making the rounds on YouTube, but it’s no substitute for the real thing. That said, it certainly does whet the appetite of a public eager for new media to consume. If you want to see the video released by 321 Next Reality, check out their YouTube page.
