Escape to Shape named World’s Best Spa & Wellness Tour Operator 2019 by Worlds Spa Awards 2019

https://www.prweb.com/

“We are honored to be recognized for doing something that we love – sharing our passion for travel and wellness with our guests around the world,” says Escape to Shape founder Erica Gragg.

Escape to Shape, a leader in curating authentic and memorable experienced-based holidays that combine luxury, culture, wellness, fitness, and relaxation, has been awarded World’s Best Spa and Wellness Tour Operator 2019 by Worlds Spa Awards 2019. Escape to Shape was one of six companies in this category which is open to those that combine proven expertise with on the ground specialist knowledge and relationships, to give the spa and wellness tourism consumer the best value for money and the best spa and wellness holiday experiences.

Leading figures of the global spa and wellness industry gathered Monday, October 21, 2019 in Dubai, UAE for the Worlds Spa Awards 2019 – a global initiative to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in the spa and wellness sector. The Worlds Spa Awards launched in 2015 and aims to drive up standards in spa and wellness tourism and foster growth by rewarding the leading organizations in their respective fields.

Curating adventures in wellness, Escape to Shape’s experience-based wellness holidays combine exploring the world while getting fit, practicing mindfulness, and eating nutritiously, all with authenticity, luxury and style. A pioneer in the “wellness tourism” field, Escape to Shape broke the mold of the typical ‘yoga retreat,’ going beyond to incorporate a variety of physical activities (yoga, Pilates, dance cardio, barre–based classes, circuit training, hiking, biking, etc.), as well as meditation, mindful eating, and exploration of the unique culture of each destination.

“We are honored to be recognized for doing something that we love – sharing our passion for travel and wellness with our guests around the world,” says Escape to Shape founder Erica Gragg. “Receiving this award motivates us to continue to offer our Escapes in unique destinations around the world, to take wellness beyond fitness and food, and to offer our guests experiences to explore and elevate.”

The weeklong “Escapes” emphasize a balanced travel experience, beginning with a personalized health and wellness questionnaire for each guest, and a schedule that infuses each day with local flavors – both in the food and the daily activities. Escapes have taken place in 65 countries thus far – from Bali to Botswana to Bhutan – and each trip is meticulously planned and curated by founders Erica Gragg and Francesco Anchisi. Together they scout each destination and activity, and hand-select the staff, including guides, fitness instructors and chefs. The company also offers travel consulting and bespoke trips, providing local transportation arrangement, reservations, guides, a comprehensive packing list, and even assistance with visa applications as needed.

Built on the philosophy that ‘wellness is the new luxury, and experiences are the new things,’ Escape To Shape recognizes that people are hungry for connection and for a total mind/body experience that takes them out of their day-to-day lives, widens their perspective, and provides them with the opportunity not only to connect with like-minded people, but to reconnect with themselves.

About Escape to Shape

Escape To Shape is the vision of Erica Gragg and Francesco Anchisi, two ‘gypsetters’* who believe in a sophisticated yet down-to-earth way of living- blending traveling, local flavors, experiences and entertaining with balance & wellness. Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month Draws Attention to Life-Threatening, Often Misdiagnosed Disease

“Although treatment options exist to help people with PH, early diagnosis is still a problem for many individuals and that is why awareness of the disease is so critical.” – Karen A. Fagan, M.D., PHA Board of Trustees chair and chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine, Univ. of South Alabama

Each November, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) launches a national campaign to raise awareness about pulmonary hypertension (PH), a progressive lung disease defined by high blood pressure in the lungs that can cause right heart failure and death.

In 2019, Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month focuses on promoting risk factors and symptoms by featuring “PHaces of Hope,” courageous individuals who live with PH. The complex disease is thought to affect an estimated 25 million adults and children worldwide, and can occur among those with left-heart disease, along with other associated conditions such as sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or scleroderma, or from congestive heart issues among babies and young children. The disease is significantly underdiagnosed and misunderstood. For example, many people with PH are misdiagnosed with more common illnesses, such as asthma. Symptoms, including shortness of breath, fatigue and chest pain, are not necessarily specific to PH and can lead to dangerous delays in a correct diagnosis.

Although no cure exists, early diagnosis and proper treatment can extend and improve a patient’s quality of life. In addition, advances in treatment and a better understanding of PH have led to effective therapies, better quality of life and improved survival for many types of PH, once diagnosed.

“Although treatment options exist to help people with PH, early diagnosis is still a problem for many individuals and that is why awareness of the disease is so critical,” said Karen A. Fagan, M.D., PHA Board of Trustees chair, professor of internal medicine and pharmacology, and chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Ala. “Our campaign targets awareness among those in the medical community as well as patients, since early diagnosis can lead to better outcomes.”

The “PHaces of Hope” campaign celebrates a community of individuals with PH, along with their caregivers and health care professionals, who continue to inspire and empower others.

PHA asks that people in the PH community submit either a short written or video story by filling out a form at PHAssociation.org/ShareYourHope. Stories from the campaign will be shared on PHA’s social media channels and on the PHA website at PHAssociation.org/PHaces.

PHA’s outreach during November includes social media (including its special “PHaces of Hope” campaign), advocacy and educational components to drive awareness and ultimately a cure for PH. More information about PH, the campaign and how to spread awareness can be found at: PHAssociation.org/AwarenessMonth.

PHA is grateful for the sponsorship support provided by Actelion Pharmaceuticals U.S., Inc. for Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month.

About the Pulmonary Hypertension Association

Headquartered in Silver Spring, Md., the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is the country’s oldest and largest nonprofit patient association dedicated to the pulmonary hypertension (PH) community. Pulmonary hypertension is a rare, chronic and life-threatening disease of the lungs for which no cure currently exists. PHA’s mission is to extend and improve the lives of those affected by PH. To achieve this mission, PHA engages people with PH and their families, caregivers, health care providers, and researchers worldwide who work together to advocate for the PH community, provide support to patients, caregivers and families, offer up-to-date education and information on PH, improve quality patient care, and fund and promote research. Arrow Benefits Group Launches Award-Winning Joint-Partnership Program for Clients

Joining together with a partner in the industry who approaches a situation differently enables both to serve clients on a much broader scale.

Benefits advising is typically a highly competitive industry. But now Arrow Benefits Group is breaking the mold, where Principal Andrew McNeil and Spanish Language Division (Alianza) lead Rosario Avila have teamed up to form The Power of Two, an unprecedented collaboration that has garnered them the prestigious award “2019 Benefits Advisers of the Year” by Employee Benefits Adviser (EBA), the first time this award has been granted jointly. This unique partnership of benefits advisers serves their clients by focusing on being proactive rather than reactive, and this unique perspective is generating results. Arrow customers are already seeing the benefits of this kind of joint-venture “Andrew and Rosario worked with me on a partnership to bring CPR classes to the Spanish-speaking community. They bring varying important perspectives to the table and then work collaboratively to find the best solution. Their differences complement each other and they bring thoughtful, comprehensive solutions to every situation. Working together, they truly demonstrate that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” said Lori Zaret SPHR, SVP Human Resources, Exchange Bank. To book time with this dynamic duo or for more information call: 707-992-3789 or email andrewm@arrowbenefitsgroup.com.

After discussions about the broad and diverse range of needs of their clients, McNeil and Avila recognized that often just one high-level representative who may specialize in a particular area can’t always fulfill the client’s needs alone. They saw an opportunity among their wide breadth of skills and experience as a duo. Joining together with a partner in the industry who approaches a situation differently enables both to serve clients on a much broader scale. “The Power of Two is a way to make each other better, both client and agent,” notes Avila. “They can finish each other’s thoughts; they’re so in sync with one another. But they’re also really different and really complementary,” says Lori Zaret of Exchange Bank. “When we’re jiving on each other’s vibe, the chemistry is really hard to duplicate,” McNeil said. To read more about why McNeil and Avila were selected for the 2019 Benefits Adviser of the Year award, go to: https://www.employeebenefitadviser.com/news/employee-benefit-adviser-names-2019-advisers-of-the-year

Continuing a tradition of industry innovation at Arrow, The Power of Two program has many objectives that buck the traditional approach to benefits advising. Benefits brokers typically meet with their clients once a year and do not necessarily have contact with their client’s employees. This has always been done differently at Arrow, and now The Power of Two project is a strategic plan to review each client throughout the year, as well as working directly with employees and their families to educate them on the benefits provided and to resolve benefits-related issues. This is not the industry norm. These dedicated relationships ensure that the benefits program is what the employer and employees want and need.

Employee benefits are often the second-highest line item in a company’s budget after payroll, and yet if employees do not understand their benefits package, they will not use them to their fullest potential. Underutilization of benefits results in an extreme waste of resources, and ultimately a less healthy workforce. McNeil and Avila’s dedication to benefits education also inspired them to create BenefitsTV, a series of videos posted to social media, after recognizing the lack of digital informational content accessible to lay people wanting to better understand their employee benefits.

Allegheny Health Network Names Pietro Bajona, MD, PhD, Director of Cardiac Surgery at Forbes Hospital

https://www.prweb.com/

Allegheny Health Network is pleased to announce the appointment of cardiovascular surgeon, Pietro Bajona, MD, PhD, as Director of Cardiac Surgery at Forbes Hospital.

“Dr. Bajona is an extremely talented cardiac surgeon and physician leader who has demonstrated a unique ability to envision, develop and formalize programs that provide effective, specialized treatment paths for patients.”

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is pleased to announce the appointment of cardiovascular surgeon, Pietro Bajona, MD, PhD, as Director of Cardiac Surgery at Forbes Hospital.

In this role, Dr. Bajona will guide the hospital’s multidisciplinary heart care team while also assuming full surgical responsibilities. His expertise and practice will strengthen the hospital’s foothold in the eastern corridor while also broaden the full spectrum of care for patients diagnosed with complex heart diseases.

“Forbes Hospital is one of the region’s best kept secrets for the high quality of its cardiovascular medicine and cardiothoracic surgery programs,” said Dr. Bajona. “It’s a privilege to help continue that tradition and work alongside so many talented and dedicated cardiologists and other clinicians as we expand our footprint as a full service center for cardiovascular care in the eastern suburbs.”

Dr. Bajona specializes in complex heart diseases including aortic stenosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), among others, and performs aortic and mitral valve repair and replacements as well as heart transplant procedures.

“Dr. Bajona is an extremely talented cardiac surgeon and physician leader who has demonstrated a unique ability to envision, develop and formalize programs that provide effective, specialized treatment paths for patients,” said George Magovern, MD, chair, AHN Cardiovascular Institute. “His leadership prowess, paired with his clinical practice, will be an invaluable asset for AHN and the local community.”

Tapping into his previous position, Dr. Bajona will also stand up a robust clinical program for the treatment of HCM, a complex heart disease that reduces blood flow and ranks as the top cause for sudden cardiac death in people under 30 years old.

Prior to joining AHN, Dr. Bajona served as the surgical director of the HCM program at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. At UT Southwestern Medical Center, he built a nationally-recognized, multi-disciplinary referral center for patients diagnosed with this disease. It was the first certified surgical center for the treatment of HCM in the state.

Certified by the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (FETCS), Dr. Bajona is an active member of several national and international professional organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Heart Association, the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery.

A graduate of the University of Ferrara Medical School in Italy, Dr. Bajona completed post-graduate training with fellowships at the University of Toronto, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York.

Northern Westchester Hospital launches “We Can Resist” anti-vaping PSA for teens created by teens on President’s Junior Leadership Council

https://www.prweb.com/

The marketing campaign has been so successful that Juul sales to teenagers rose from $200 million in 2017 to a projected $3.4 billion in 2019.

“We urge parents to have honest and open conversations with their loved ones—especially teenagers—about their use of THC oils and the need to stop using them immediately,” says Northern Westchester Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Marla Koroly.

We Can Resist, an anti-vaping public service announcement (PSA) created by teenagers on Northern Westchester Hospital’s (NWH) 50-member President’s Junior Leadership Council is being made available to media, schools, PTAs and community organizations. The PSA, which is also available on YouTube, was funded by a generous grant from the Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation.

The release of the PSA coincides with rising concerns about the dangers of vaping as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified more than 1,000 cases of vaping–related lung disease with 26 deaths reported from 21 states as of October 11.

According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marla Koroly, NWH has diagnosed five cases of vaping related lung injury over the past few weeks, one of whom was a 17-year-old. The hospital has been working with its medical staff, the CDC and the New York State Department of Health in the identification and treatment of these illnesses.

“Although patients with Vaping Related Lung Injury vape both nicotine and THC oils (tetrahydrocannabinol-the active ingredient in marijuana), it seems as though the illness may be related to additional chemicals that are put into THC oils,” says Dr. Koroly. “We urge parents to have honest and open conversations with their loved ones—especially teenagers—about their use of THC oils and the need to stop using them immediately.”

The We Can Resist PSA strives to educate young people by comparing big tobacco’s marketing of nicotine to the recent marketing campaign around vaping. Many teens who would never consider smoking cigarettes believe vaping is safe and are shocked to learn that one Juul contains as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. The marketing campaign has been so successful that Juul sales to teenagers rose from $200 million in 2017 to a projected $3.4 billion in 2019. In fact, a survey released by the National Institute of Health in December 2017, found that one in three high school students tried vaping in 2016.

“We are very proud of our President’s Junior Leadership Council,” says Amy Rosenfeld, MS, RD CDN, community educator, and coordinator of the Council, who worked with the students to create the PSA. “They are outraged that Juul created a new generation of nicotine addicts, and passionate in their efforts to educate their peers. We hope the We Can Resist PSA will be a wakeup call for anyone who vapes.”

The PSA is the latest anti-vaping effort on the part of NWH’s President’s Junior Leadership Council. Two years ago, the prevalence of vaping so alarmed the Council, it recommended the hospital’s community health education and outreach department address the problem. The resulting program—believed to be the only one of its kind—goes into high schools and middle schools to educate students about the hazards of vaping and conducts parent programs through school PTAs/PTOs to raise awareness of this growing health concern. To date, it has visited every high school and middle school in the hospital’s catchment districts, conducting programs for more than 3800 high school and middle school students, and parents.

Research Backed Tips to Supercharge Your Morning Routine and the Rest of Your Life

News Image

“Building a solid foundation for beginning your day will help you achieve success in every area of your life,” says Carter “the hours of the morning are the most critical time of the day.”

Given recent advances in brain imaging and neuroscience, we now know that the brain is affected by every experience, thought, emotion, and every second of stress. How much of your life do you spend in the present moment? How much time do you spend daydreaming, ruminating about the past, or worrying about the future?

“There are many different ways to train your brain and improve your cognitive skills such as mindful reading, writing, brain teasers, —along with getting enough sleep, physical activity and of course a few minutes of meditation,” says Carter, co-author with his wife, Dr. Kirti Salwe Carter, of The Morning Mind: Use Your Brain to Master Your Day and Supercharge Your Life, #1 Amazon Bestseller & Forbes Best Self-Help. (http://www.themorningmind.com).

Carter offers 4 ways to train your brain and supercharge your life

1. Reflect On What Makes You Happy To Be Alive. “The subconscious responds very powerfully to feeling, and the more of a sensory experience you can make your ref, the more effective it will be,” says Carter.

2. Get enough shut-eye. “Sleep is an essential part of physical health,” says Carter “when we sleep, the body performs a vast array of therapeutic and healing functions that detox, repair, and heal the body and brain.”

3. Exercise your body as well as mind. “Take a 15 to 30 minute walk each morning, — or yoga, swimming, dance or do yard work if you prefer,” Carter. “ Exercise stimulates the brain plasticity by stimulating-growth of new connections between cells in a wide array of important cortical areas of the brain.” Carter says,

4. Take control and train your brain with meditation.“Meditation trains the brain to be in the present moment, and to return to that focus when negative thinking and emotions intrude,” says Carter.

Carter says offers 8 simple steps to happiness and achieving a relaxed state of mind in only five to eight minutes. 1) Sit comfortably, 2) Perform a shoulder roll, 3) Gently close your eyes, 4) Breathe in through your nose and count to four, 5) Exhale through your nose and count to four, 6) Be aware of the sensation of the breath entering the nostrils, 7. Keep attention on the breathing and when you become distracted by thoughts, do not try to stop thinking, just observe the loss of presence and return your attention to breathing, and 8) continue this exercise for five to ten minutes or until you experience a calm mind, and practice daily.

Online Custom Sports Socks Company Prepares to Be Knee-High in Breast Cancer Awareness Efforts

News Image

We find that October is a busy month because there are so many wonderful schools, associations, and other community organizations and charities that are focused on fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, turning cities and states pink everywhere. Elite Sports Socks is pleased to announce that it supports Breast Cancer Awareness through its line of custom sports socks, which are often used to raise funds for this cause.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every year in America, from October 1 through October 31. It is an international health campaign that major breast cancer charities organize each October. This campaign is geared toward both increasing awareness of the disease and raising funds. Breast Cancer fundraising efforts typically support research to prevent, diagnose, treat, and cure breast cancer. Part of the awareness component is to educate people about the disease and the importance of early screening.

While the list of fundraising ideas is endless, creating custom socks that can be branded with a logo, special colors, and tailored text can be a great way to support breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for a great cause.

“We find that October is a busy month because there are so many wonderful schools, associations, and other community organizations and charities that are focused on fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness,” Louis Louw, founder of Elite Sports Socks said. “Whether it’s kids raising money for school or adults in associations that want to make fundraising a little more fun, custom sports socks are a great option. They promote team spirit but also community togetherness. People love the options to customize the socks as they see fit and usually get really creative with how they design them. It’s a fun, engaging way to raise money for a great cause.”

Many teams, schools, associations, and organizations come to Elite Sports Socks in October each year to purchase socks at a low cost. They are able to submit a mock-up design to customize these socks and also have the benefit of receiving a detailed marketing plan to make any fundraising effort a success. The organizations can then sell these to other members of their own organization or of the community at large for $5-$8 more than their purchase price.

Most organizations that utilize custom sport socks as a breast cancer awareness fundraising tool report that they sell themselves. These specially-designed socks raise the spirits of everyone they touch and subsequently, raise money for those in the community who need it most. Once one person is seen wearing tailor-made socks, the rest of the community wants to jump on board as well, making it a self-sustaining effort.

“It really is exciting to see the ripple effect that this type of fundraising effort can have once people get really into it,” Louw said. “We’ve had customers report back to us that choosing custom sports socks as their fundraising tool blew the doors off of their initial fundraising goals.”
