Team Novo Nordisk – World’s First All-Diabetes Pro Cycling team

https://www.prweb.com/

Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, will race its eighth season with a roster of 16 athletes from 12 countries.

“2019 has been a banner year for the team. It has been a season where teamwork clicked race after race, month after month, and we are looking forward to building upon this momentum with ambitious objectives for 2020,” Team Novo Nordisk CEO and Co-Founder Phil Southerland said.

Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, will race its eighth season with a roster of 16 athletes from 12 countries. Two new riders, Hamish Beadle (NZL) and Gerd de Keijzer (NED), will be part of Team Novo Nordisk’s 2020 roster.

“2019 has been a banner year for the team. It has been a season where teamwork clicked race after race, month after month, and we are looking forward to building upon this momentum with ambitious objectives for 2020,” Team Novo Nordisk CEO and Co-Founder Phil Southerland said. “As we race around the globe, we get the chance to work directly with the diabetes community and this impact is proving priceless. Witnessing those moments gives us a great sense of pride and it is humbling to receive that support and gratitude from the diabetes community. Together we are changing diabetes.”

To become a member of Team Novo Nordisk, all athletes must have type 1 diabetes. Since its launch in December 2012, the organization has focused heavily on identifying and developing endurance athletes from around the world with diabetes, building junior and development squads currently totaling 30 athletes. Both of Team Novo Nordisk’s new athletes are products of its development program. Beadle’s selection was announced in September.

In addition to Beadle and de Keijzer, Team Novo Nordisk proudly announces it has extended contracts with standout riders Andrea Peron (ITA) and Charles Planet (FRA). Planet’s extension was announced earlier this month.

“Andrea had a nice season and I am proud of his results along with his positive attitude. I believe his results were partly due to the addition of Peter Kusztor, who has a tremendous ability to rally the guys around protecting Andrea,” Team Novo Nordisk General Manager Vassili Davidenko said. “We’ve known Andrea for nearly a decade, and he has always delivered on his dreams. He dreams of winning a professional race; hopefully, we can make that dream come true together.”

Peron helped lead Team Novo Nordisk to its most successful season to date by earning nine top 10 finishes including third on Stage 1 and eighth overall at the Tour of Estonia, eighth on Stage 7 of the Tour of California, and eighth on Stage 3 of the Tour de Pologne. The last two results serve as Team Novo Nordisk’s first top 10s at World Tour-caliber races.

“By far my proudest memory of the year were the two top 10s. I always enjoy a race where the start list is the best in the sport,” Peron said. “It was a big year for me, both with strong results and with the birth of my son. All of this served as a boost and I want to thank my coach, Federico Fontana, who also deserves credit for this season.”

While new to the roster, the 25-year-old de Keijzer raced three seasons with Team Novo Nordisk’s pro team from 2014-2017. The Dutchman briefly stepped away from the professional ranks before returning in 2019 to Team Novo Nordisk’s development squad to gain experience. Based on his results, he earned a spot back on the pro team for the 2020 season.

“It is extremely hard to earn a professional contract in bike racing, so I’m proud of this. For the 2019 season, I had one goal and that was to show the best me both on and off the bike. It was probably one of the best years I’ve had in cycling and I can’t wait to continue this growth into next year,” de Keizer said. “I spent time with the development squad years ago and being back this past season made it clear how it has grown in professionalism and strength. All of Team Novo Nordisk raise each other to a higher level and that’s what you need within a successful organization.”

This season, the Team Novo Nordisk men’s professional squad competed in four World Tour races: UAE Tour, Milan-San Remo, Tour of California and Tour de Pologne. The squad wore jerseys at each of the World Tour stage races and placed a historic four riders in the breakaway at Milan-San Remo.

Across 24 races in 15 countries, Team Novo Nordisk had its most successful season to date including two top 10s at World Tour races, podium results at the Tour of Estonia and Tour of China I, and more than two dozen top 10s overall. Standout results include Planet earning the Most Active Rider jersey at the Tour of Pologne, the team’s first overall World Tour jersey in its seven-year history. He also wore the Intermediate Sprint jersey for four days at the UAE Tour, the King of the Mountains jersey for three days at the Tour of Pologne, and the Most Courageous Rider jersey following the opening stage of the Tour of California. David Lozano (ESP) won the overall King of the Mountains jersey at the Tour of Taiyuan while Sam Brand (GBR) wore the King of the Mountains jersey for one stage at the Tour of Estonia.

“Looking ahead, I want to see some victories. We’ve gotten a taste of success this year with a record number of podium appearances, which has translated into a massive confidence boost throughout the entire organization,” Southerland said. “From a scientific standpoint, we had a big year of data collection, and now we can make some small interventions that we believe will help level the playing field for our riders. These small gains could be real difference-makers for the 2020 season, which serves as the 99th year since the discovery of insulin. It is a big year for us, a big year for people with diabetes, and it is our chance to do a big leadout so that 2021 can be the best year for everyone affected by diabetes around the world.”

The full 2020 roster includes:

Hamish Beadle – NZL

Oliver Behringer – SUI

Mehdi Benhamouda – FRA

Ōmcare partners with Ecumen and Thrifty White Pharmacy to improve medication adherence for older adults

The Ōmcare® Telemed System is designed to improve medication adherence, reduce costs, and assist caregivers.

Ecumen and Thrifty White are ideal partners for this pilot because they share our passion for innovation and they have the infrastructure and expertise to test and validate the ability of the Ōmcare system to deliver on our promise of right pill, right time, right person.

Ōmcare, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anser Innovation, announced today that it will partner with Ecumen, a leading provider of housing and care resources for older adults, and Thrifty White Pharmacy, a Midwest-based pharmacy chain of retail, long-term care, and telepharmacy locations, to evaluate the ability of the Ōmcare® Telemed System to improve medication adherence, reduce costs, and assist caregivers.

According to Lisa Lavin, founder and CEO of Ōmcare, the pilot will launch in early 2020 at select Ecumen assisted living communities in Minnesota. As part of the pilot, residents who currently receive door-delivered medication assistance will instead receive medication assistance from their caregivers via the Ōmcare Telemed System. The two-way, interactive Ōmcare video and medication dispensing system will be preloaded with pouched multi-dose medications from Thrifty White Pharmacy, per each individual’s prescription drug regimen.

The Ōmcare Telemed System gives caregivers of all types – physicians, pharmacists, care providers or family members – the ability to see and speak to those who need assistance with medication adherence and to confirm right pill, right time, right person. The easy-to-use Ōmcare system is designed to facilitate remote monitoring via visual confirmation of a patient’s actions, which supports telehealth and virtual care services and gives family members greater peace of mind.

“Ecumen and Thrifty White are ideal partners for this pilot because they share our passion for innovation and they have the infrastructure and expertise to test and validate the ability of the Ōmcare system to deliver on our promise of right pill, right time, right person,” said Lisa Lavin, founder and CEO of Ōmcare. “By combining remote care via video technology with the convenience of multi-dose packaging, we hope to demonstrate that this approach can save money while improving patient outcomes and the caregiving experience.”

Multi-dose packaging for pharmaceuticals is expected to grow at a rate of 5.9% between now and 2023. This growth is due in large part to the connection between the use of multi-dose packaging and improved medication adherence, which ultimately influences clinical outcomes and health care costs.

“We’ve been actively working to identify the best innovations in technology to support the independence and individual needs of those we serve,” said Brett Anderson, vice president of health and clinical services, Ecumen. “Specific to medication administration, multi-dose packaging is both efficient and secure. We’re excited to move towards a pilot in partnership with Thrifty White Pharmacy and Ōmcare to test this interactive technology.”

Like Ōmcare and Ecumen, Thrifty White Pharmacy is also well-known for its innovation and commitment to integrating telemedicine capabilities into pharmacy delivery. In 2003, the company opened its first telepharmacy site. This concept allows a trained, certified and experienced pharmacy technician to fill and dispense prescription medications that have been verified by a pharmacist over an audio-video link. The success of this solution allowed Thrifty White Pharmacy to provide pharmacy services into communities that otherwise would have no prescription services.

“Our partnership with Ōmcare and Ecumen will allow us to help patients maintain independence as long as possible, while supporting the concept of aging in place in a way that has never been done,” said Tim Weippert, chief operating officer, Thrifty White. “Because medication adherence is one of the primary needs of our aging population, technology like the Ōmcare system can promote healthy outcomes and quality of life for patients and caregivers.”

Novarc Technologies’ Spool Welding Robot to be Implemented by Global Engineering Firm

https://www.prweb.com/

Novarc’s Spool Welding Robot

Our welders’ expertise coupled with robotics is creating new opportunities for our people, greater productivity for our customers, and increased safety for all.

Novarc Technologies, a Canadian-based robotics company specializing in the design and commercialization of collaborative robots for industrial applications, announced today that a global Engineering Procurement and Construction Company is going to implement three Spool Welding Robots as part of their suite of welding solutions. Novarc will be demonstrating its Spool Welding Robot (SWR) at FABTECH in Chicago, November 11-14 at Booth B19062.

“Our welders’ expertise coupled with robotics is creating new opportunities for our people, greater productivity for our customers, and increased safety for all,” said the company.

“We’re excited to provide our collaborative welding solution to these global leaders in the construction industry. This partnership represents the completion of a major shift in construction paradigm of transitioning from manual welding by rig welders, to using lower skilled welders and welding robots in the fab shop to significantly lower the cost of welding, while achieving an even better weld quality,” says Soroush Karimzadeh, CEO of Novarc Technologies.

STRATUS Integration

Novarc also announced the SWR’s integration with STRATUS, taking automation in the fabrication process to a whole new level.

“With the Spool Welding Robot and STRATUS integration, we can now transition the weld data in construction models to the SWR, and enhance its capabilities as a Shop Fabrication Tool,” says Karimzadeh.

“This is a very exciting integration for our STRATUS customers. Incorporating tools with STRATUS is one of our core competencies and an area our clients are pushing us to continue. The tie-in of the digital spool from STRATUS to the Novarc’s SWR will give our clients the ability to maximize shop resources; minimize manual data entry; streamline and digitize QA and QC processes; and, increase visibility of project status,” says Todd Liebe, President of GTP Services, creator of STRATUS.

Novarc’s SWR has already been proven to increase productivity and shop capacity, while demonstrating superior weld quality and improved welder ergonomics, and this integration between STRATUS and SWR will only heighten its role as a valuable fabrication tool.

Novarc also announced today that Pitt Meadows Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Ltd. – an innovative mechanical contracting company servicing the construction industry in building new medical facilities, schools and high-rise residential buildings – has purchased a SWR, which will be incorporated with STRATUS.

“This technology from Novarc brings a new level of quality and consistency with every weld as well as an embedded video of the weld into the BIM model. At Pitt Meadows Plumbing we are always looking for ways to improve the quality of the product as well as to provide an embedded QA/QC report on every joint,” says Steve Robinson, President of Pitt Meadows Plumbing who is both a Novarc and a STRATUS customer.

Global Distribution

Earlier this year, Novarc entered an exclusive global partnership with ABICOR BINZEL, the leading manufacturer of manual welding equipment and robotics welding torches and accessories for medium and high automation production. As a result of this partnership, the company has recently expanded

to new markets outside of North America in Europe and the Middle East.

ABOUT NOVARC TECHNOLOGIES:

Novarc Technologies is a Canadian-based robotics company specializing in the design and commercialization of collaborative robots for industrial applications. Novarc’s Spool Welding Robot (SWR) is the world’s first of its kind in pipe welding applications. As a proven pioneer in the field, Novarc has a dedicated team of engineers and scientists to solve challenging industrial automation problems that improve customers’ bottom line.

Lead Singer of Five Finger Death Punch, Ivan L. Moody’s Health and Wellness Company, Moody’s Medicinals, Debuts New Product Online and In-Person at The Grove in Las Vegas

Photo advertisement of Moody's Medicinals featuring Ivan Moody

Ivan Moody for Moody’s Medicinals

Moody’s Medicinals specializing in both cannabidiol (“CBD”) and non-CBD health and wellness products launched its first trailblazing line of high-quality products in June 2019. Today, they announced that a new range of sugar-free AM and PM shots, as well as a new personal CBD diffuser pen that can be enjoyed in three new formulas are now available online at moodysmedicinals.com. They will also be available in-person at an exclusive launch event in Las Vegas, attended by Ivan L. Moody.

The three new formulas for the personal diffuser pen are: Relax (made with organic blackberry and blueberry waters), Energize (made with organic grapefruit and orange waters) and Silver Bullet (made with menthol and mint with vitamin B12 and ginseng).

The Moody’s Medicinals AM Shot is a refreshing Raspberry Lemonade flavor and the PM Shot is a calming Lemon Iced Tea flavor. Both shots are certified pure CBD.

Ivan Moody realized that Moody’s Medicinals, as a health and wellness innovator, could provide better ingredients, quality, and potency across its products. “Moody’s Medicinals was created to support me whether I’m on the road, at a shoot, writing music, or just living life. Everyone knows that life is demanding, and that’s what Moody’s Medicinals helps the most with – life,” said Moody, creator of Moody’s Medicinals.

Five Finger Death Punch’s world-renowned lead vocalist, Ivan L. Moody, created the company because taking CBD helped him personally manage his anxiety symptoms, PTSD, and OCD. However, he noticed a gap in the marketplace concerning the extreme amounts of additives the competitors used. He set out to deliver a variety of CBD & non-CBD health and wellness products that do not contain sugars, alcohols, and unnecessary additives.

The official launch event for the new products will be at The Grove (4647 Swenson St, Las Vegas, NV 89119) on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. This corresponds with the kickoff for Five Finger Death Punch’s U.S. headlining arena tour (through December 15 before heading overseas in the new year). The best-selling rock band’s two exclusive shows in Las Vegas are on November 1 and 2 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (4455 Paradise Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89169).

“Whether it’s our AM and PM shots to help you start and finish the day calm and focused or if you use it to tame anxiety like I do, they’re special products. They keep me sustained when I’m unable to eat on a fixed schedule when I’m on the road, and anything that helps you manage your appetite is an obvious plus,” added Moody.

All of the Moody’s Medicinals product lines, including the new products, are available for purchase online at MoodysMedicinals.com.

The company continues to comply in full with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations as the company develops its CBD/hemp extract product lines. Moody’s Medicinals is a registered trademark of ILM Distribution, Inc.

Innovation at the forefront of WesternU’s future

Western University of Health Sciences held Innovation Day Oct. 29, 2019 to showcase the many roles innovation and technology play in educating the next generation of health care providers.

The event, organized by WesternU’s Center for Innovation, featured hands-on learning opportunities and presentations by WesternU administrators and representatives of companies working with the University on a range of projects.

“Our job is to use innovation to motivate ourselves and our students to value it, to contribute to it, and to always ask the critical questions. How does this make me a better provider? How does it make us better educators?” said WesternU Senior Vice President and Provost David Baron, DO, MSEd. “We can all feel proud that our University has made the commitment to this. Not to take away from our core mission, but to add to it. To contribute to it. To say that we’re proud at WesternU on how we’re using innovation to help our students become better providers.”

Deans from the colleges of dental medicine, graduate nursing, optometry, health sciences and veterinary medicine talked about how each college has embraced innovation in collaborative and unique ways. Pomona Vice Mayor Victor Preciado presented a city proclamation to the Center for Innovation.

“We congratulate the Center for Innovation on a successful Innovation Day 2019,” Preciado said. “We are proud to have such a renowned organization in Pomona and we commend you for your outstanding leadership in innovation, entrepreneurship and education in the field of medicine. We wish you and your impressive staff and students the best in all your future endeavors.”

Senior Vice President for Research Devendra Agrawal, PhD, MBA, said WesternU already has a lot of strong research taking place in each college. His goal is to bring these researchers together.

“How we can integrate the research activities and expertise of our faculty in such a manner that we can realize the potential of the intelligence and the brilliance of our faculty and develop a collaborative, multidisciplinary research program. That is what my initiative is,” Agrawal said. “I’m trying to identify the expertise and the different resources, and then bring them together in a multi-disciplinary manner.”

His office has created research clusters that will meet regularly to share resources and ideas.

Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Clive Houston-Brown, EdD, said a critical aspect of supporting innovation is facilitating connectivity into action and collaboration.

“If you are going to have innovation you must have that human element. You must have the ability to interact with one another,” he said. “As we design a conference room that used to be just a table and chairs, we now infuse it with a lot of technology to make sure that collaboration can go on not just in that room but elsewhere across the world. So when we have partnerships in places like Ireland we have the ability to communicate across the waters.”

A panel discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) featured experts from Southwest Research Institute and ElectrifAI.

“We obviously are a big believer in the future of AI as it relates to health care,” said WesternU Chief Innovation Officer Nicholas Webb. “If you think about the challenges we have in health care, they are to deliver a lot more health care much more quickly and more accurately. So when you’re looking at lots of data and you’re trying to have accurate outcomes from that data, and you want to increase speed, really the best way to do that is to have the machine do the heavy lifting.”

Shahin Rahman, vice president of data science at ElectrifAI, said his company is working with medical schools on admissions. The goal is not to replace the admissions committee or admissions process, but to use AI to empower those entities in a way that will benefit both the institution and the students.

How are students best matched to a particular university so that both the institution and the student are successful as possible? Trying to predict a result that is four or five years in the future is difficult. Traditionally, universities have looked at standardized test scores and grade point average, but is this enough? Rahman said.

“Can we do better? Can we empower that admissions committee so they can spend time and attention on relevant information rather than get overloaded by a flood of information?” he said. “That’s where we try to bring a more streamlined process and to bring some level of consistency into that process, and we want to go beyond just the standardized exams, or GPA. Reading through thousands of essays, that is time consuming. Can we extract key information from the essay that will be predictive of the student’s fitness to the program that the institution provides?”

David Chambers, principal engineer at Southwest Research Institute, said his company’s markerless motion capture can identify joint locations and estimate their poses from a single camera.

“The really cool thing about this, outside of high-performance athletics, (is that) we can do these for medical studies as well,” Chambers said. “There is a lot of correlation with gait. There is correlation of injury with the way you recover. There is a lot that can come out of this data. It’s very information-rich, and it’s something that we have been applying specifically looking at gait analysis for predicting dementia earlier than other predictors.”

Innovation Day also provided hands-on activities that promoted teamwork, problem solving and design thinking. The first session of the Cupcake-A-Thon was won by first-year College of Podiatric Medicine students Katherine Gutierrez and Nesem Mergen and WesternU guest Nadia Jam. The challenge was to design a bridge using cupcakes, Rice Krispies treats and other materials. Their team decided to use Rice Krispies treats as the foundation and build from there, Gutierrez said.

“We really like working with our hands,” she said. “It’s fun to be able to do something hands-on.”

She also enjoyed learning more about innovation at WesternU.

“I’m excited about the technological advances we are making that are being put into practice,” Gutierrez said. “Part of lifelong learning as doctors is to be able to keep up with technology and serve the public.”

WesternU’s iSquad, led by College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Associate Dean of Academic Innovation Edward Barnes II, MD, FACP, facilitated another hands-on exercise, “Can You Make It Better?” Participants studied several futuristic heath device mobile tools and used the tenets of design thinking to think of ways to improve that device. Among the devices were a Bluetooth blood pressure cuff and a Butterfly iQ ultrasound device.

“What I hope participants walk away with is expanding their knowledge on the tenets of design thinking and empowering them to grow a larger capacity to be creative in the way they approach problems,” Barnes said.

“It was interesting to see all the technology being developed and what other new things that could come out from this,” said third-year COMP student Elenie Philippas, who participated in the iSquad activity. “I want to go into family medicine, so I think that all these new technologies can help in the clinic, especially if you are in a rural area and doing family medicine where you don’t have available professionals like specialists.”

The Brain That Changes Itself and Eating Disorders

Norman Doidge, M.D., is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, essayist, and poet, on faculty at the Departments of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and Columbia University, Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. He is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis. His book, The Brain

that Changes Itself was chosen by the Dana Brain Foundation USA’s journal, Cerebrum, from among the 30,000 books written on the brain, as the best general book on the brain.

While eating disorder behaviors and attitudes may be rigid, this does not mean that the brains of patients with those disorders are rigid or lack plasticity; the illness is in part a product of how they use their plasticity, which is a product of their development. We will discuss approaches to the common developmental inhibitions, conflicts and psychodynamics, self-fragmentation, trauma, hopelessness, borderline personality organization and pathological defenses in the therapy of eating disorder patients. The important role of imbalances between our two hemispheres in eating disorders, and right hemisphere-based dissociation from the body, will be highlighted. The lecture will illustrate how to combine a thought and emotion-based, neuroplastically-informed, hemisphere-balancing psychotherapy, with neurofeedback and other modalities, to help patients access their full neuroplastic potential, stimulate dormant brain functions, improve self-regulation and neuromodulation, and develop a more integrated, differentiated view of themselves. When this occurs, patients can develop more life- affirming goals that make ED behaviors less necessary or attractive to them, so that they can grow out of a reliance on them, and mature psychologically at the same time
