PerSys Medical Earns FDA Clearance for the NIO Infant

News Image

NIO Infant

The NIO Infant is going to make it easier than ever for medical providers to gain vascular access, in what has been traditionally thought of as a challenging patient population. Dr. Mike Simpson”

PerSys Medical, a global leader in the development and marketing of innovative products for pre-hospital and hospital emergency medical situations, proudly announces today it has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for the NIO Infant.

The NIO Infant is a manual intraosseous (IO) access device that administers intravascular fluids and medications through the proximal tibia as an alternative to IV access during emergency medical situations. Its innovative stepped needle design allows for graduated penetration to the bone marrow cavity. Sensory feedback, in the form of resistance, indicates to the user that the needle is inserted correctly in the bone marrow cavity, thus preventing over penetration. The NIO™ Infant is a single-use, sterile device, eliminating the risk of cross contamination. It does not require batteries or an external power source, thereby making it a well-suited for hospital use, and the pre-hospital setting.

“The first automatic intraosseous device was introduced by WaisMed Ltd, a subsidiary of the PerSys Medical, over two decades ago. It revolutionized the way intraosseous access was established during traumatic medical events” adds Roee Madai, CEO of WaisMed Ltd “After an arduous and comprehensive R&D process, we are excited to introduce the NIO Infant and offer a complete NIO product line for adult, pediatric, and infant populations.”

WaisMed Ltd was founded in 1994 and acquired by PerSys Medical in 2004. WaisMed Ltd quickly established itself as a global leader in the intraosseous access market. In 1998, WaisMed Ltd brought to market the world’s first automatic intraosseous access device, the Bone Injection Gun (B.I.G.). It launched an additional line of intraosseous devices, the NIO (Next Generation IO), in 2014.

The NIO Infant is a continuation of an elite line of vascular access devices which includes the NIO Adult, NIO Pediatric for children ages 3-12, and the NIO Simulation, the most realistic IO training device available. The NIO Adult provides rapid intraosseous (IO) access through the humeral head or tibia insertion site in 10 seconds or less. The NIO Pediatric provides rapid intraosseous (IO) access through the tibia insertion site.

Dr. Mike Simpson, Medical Director of PerSys Medical says, “I am extremely excited about what FDA clearance of our new NIO Infant means. This will be a huge step forward in capabilities to treat emergencies in patients less than three years of age. The NIO Infant is going to make it easier than ever for medical providers to gain vascular access, in what has been traditionally thought of as a challenging patient population.”

PerSys Medical will begin commercial distribution of the NIO Infant in the US in the coming weeks.

Vium and Biomere Announce Collaboration to Provide Preclinical Research Services using Vium’s Smart Cage Technology

Vium Logo

Vium, Inc. http://www.vium.com, the scientific leader in delivering digital biomarker driven insights from preclinical in vivo research and Biomere http://www.biomere.com, a preclinical contract research organization (CRO) who delivers a personalized approach to drug discovery and development, will attend the American College of Toxicology (ACT) conference together in Phoenix, AZ. At the conference, Biomere will feature Vium’s innovative digital biomarkers now available as part of Biomere’s unique preclinical service offering around specialty animal models.

“Collaborating with Biomere, a leading specialty preclinical CRO with deep scientific experience, will allow researchers greater access to the Vium technology enabling them to leverage our unique digital biomarkers to derive deeper insights from their preclinical studies,” said Laura Schaevitz, CSO of Vium. “Traditionally, researchers are limited in the data that can be collected from each animal on study. The Vium platform is fundamentally changing that paradigm. Digital biomarker data are collected continuously on each animal throughout the study with the goal of using these large data sets to create algorithms that more reliably and accurately predict disease and compound efficacy.”

“The Vium alliance allows Biomere to enhance existing service offerings providing additional assessments in a variety of pharmacological models,” said April Hall, executive vice president of Biomere. “Early and accurate detection of specific biomarkers will support our clients in their drug discovery efforts.”

The state-of-the-art platform, including Vium’s Smart Housing™, Vium Cloud, and Research Suite is the gold-standard in vivo platform combining computer vision, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and sensor technology to non-invasively collect digital biomarkers from the animal in its home cage. These digital biomarkers include data on animal activity levels, breathing rate, and other behaviors. By providing continuous, rich data sets, the platform enables researchers to identify which digital biomarkers, or combinations of biomarkers, are the strongest indicators in a specific disease model. Currently, Vium, in collaboration with pharma, biotech, and academic partners, have explored digital signatures of more than 45 different animal models of disease.

“Vium is committed to bringing innovative technology to drug development,” said Wendel Barr, CEO of Vium. Five of the top 10 global pharmaceutical companies now have Vium’s Smart housing™ system in their labs but we recognize that not all researchers have access to a vivarium. By collaborating with a leading preclinical CRO provider like Biomere, we combine their scientific expertise in preclinical research and customer service with our advanced digital platform and insights to benefit all researchers.”

The American College of Toxicology Conference (ACT) hosts toxicologists, pharmacologists, and other preclinical researchers to discuss advancements in toxicology.

Leveraging AI and digital sensors to replace manual monitoring improves the quality and reliability of data, while at the same time reducing stress on the animal, which can also impact experimental results. It also allows researchers the ability to collect more data than is possible using manual methods. Vium is the frontrunner in developing a full stack solution that includes hardware, software, and scientific insights.

About Vium, Inc.

Vium is the first company to create a fully digital end to end Digital Vivarium® platform which is transforming in vivo research. NowRx Partners with Parata Systems to Significantly Streamline Pharmacist Verification, Increase Accuracy

News Image

NowRx is leading the charge in reinventing the pharmacy space from the ground up and we are pleased that our technology is helping advance their mission of increasing pharmacy efficiency and safety

NowRx, the same-day, free-delivery pharmacy, and Parata, a leader in automated dispensing with high speed and accuracy, today announced a technology partnership to create an industry-first process that significantly streamlines pharmacist verification and fill speeds.

Through a unique combination of Parata’s Max®, a vial-filling robot with image capture, and NowRx’s automated image analytics software, NowRx believes it can improve prescription verification efficiency by more than 25% compared to the manual processes typically found in traditional pharmacies. In addition to increased efficiency, this technology dramatically reduces verification errors.

Researchers at the University of Arizona found that traditional community pharmacies average a prescription dispensing error rate between 1.4% and 1.8%(1), equating to more than 80 million prescription dispensing errors on the nearly 6 billion annual prescriptions dispensed throughout the U.S.(2) NowRx’s technology significantly reduces these dispensing errors which are common in traditional pharmacies who use older technology or manual processes.

“NowRx is leading the charge in reinventing the pharmacy space from the ground up and we are pleased that our technology is helping advance their mission of increasing pharmacy efficiency and safety,” said Mark Longley, EVP of Sales and Marketing at Parata.

By integrating Parata Max into its custom Pharmacy Management System, QuickFill, NowRx is able to utilize Parata Max’s image capture before capping to automatically run an imprint analysis. This enables NowRx’s pharmacists to more rapidly verify prescriptions. This technology partnership further fuels NowRx’s disruption of the $330bn pharmacy space and the goal it shares with Parata of improving patient prescription adherence, increasing healthcare efficiency and, ultimately, bettering the health of its customers.

“A critical component of NowRx’s vision for modernizing pharmacy is a better fulfillment process than counting trays and counting in fives – a system that has remained practically unchanged for 50 years. We knew automation was the key to re-engineering pharmacy and Parata Max offered us the most innovative solution on which to build,” said Cary Breese, CEO of NowRx. “Automations like these are the only way to be successful in a same-day delivery pharmacy offering, while raising the bar for patient safety. This is just the beginning of a number of innovations that we are developing to further revolutionize the pharmacy space.”

About Parata Systems

Parata provides pharmacy technology solutions to reduce costs, improve health outcomes, and enhance the patient experience by offering the most comprehensive pharmacy automation portfolio with medication adherence packaging, high-speed robotic dispensing technologies, and pharmacy workflow solutions. North Carolina-based MCO Eastpointe Selects Altruista’s Technology Platform to Enable Integrated Care Management for Health Plan Members

News Image

Altruista Health has strong experience in clinical health plan operations, behavioral health and the social determinants of health. This experience makes it the best choice for us to improve our member services — Eastpointe CEO Sarah N. Stroud

Altruista Health, an innovative provider of care management technology solutions for health plans and provider organizations, today said that Eastpointe, a public managed care organization, has chosen Altruista’s GuidingCare® technology platform for care management of its health plan members. The decision will support Eastpointe during North Carolina’s move to fully integrated Medicaid managed care. This migration is the largest change to North Carolina’s Medicaid program in more than 40 years.

Eastpointe is a managed care organization that coordinates public behavioral healthcare in 10 counties in eastern North Carolina for people with mental health challenges, substance use issues, and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Altruista Health has strong experience in clinical health plan operations, behavioral health and the social determinants of health. This experience makes it the best choice for us to improve our member services,” said Eastpointe CEO Sarah N. Stroud. “We’ve been focused on behavioral health and delivering whole person care. Adding physical health care and pharmacy requires us to have a comprehensive foundation in technology to continue to serve our members with excellence.”

As one example of the expertise Altruista brings to the table, the company’s executive vice president of clinical services, Mike McKitterick, held a senior clinical operations role at Colorado Access, a non-profit health plan providing behavioral and physical health services to more than 1 million Medicaid members. His experience in applying technology solutions to clinical and operational challenges is considerable, especially for behavioral health.

“Eastpointe has all of the fundamentals to translate their expertise in behavioral health to a broader health plan paradigm because the biopsychosocial approach also works well in chronic care management,” McKitterick said. “We are well-positioned to support them from a technology and people standpoint because we have tools and expertise in both realms. Our blended perspectives can enable a smoother transformation for Eastpointe.”

Altruista also holds a leadership position in addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH) that especially affect Medicaid populations and create barriers to care. GuidingCare was the first care management platform to directly integrate SDOH supports into the member care plan, providing real-time access to social services search-and-referral tools. Eastpointe will be using Altruista’s Mobile Clinician app, which extends GuidingCare functionality into remote and rural areas that may have unreliable internet connectivity.

About Altruista Health

Altruista Health delivers care management and population health management solutions that support value-based and person-centered care models. Its GuidingCare® technology platform integrates care management, care coordination and quality improvement programs through a suite of sophisticated yet easy-to-use web applications. GuidingCare is the largest and most widely adopted platform of its kind in the United States. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in the Washington, D.C. area, Altruista Health has grown into a recognized industry leader, and was named twice as one of the Top Population Health Management Companies to Know by Becker’s Healthcare. Health plans and healthcare providers use GuidingCare to transform their processes, reduce avoidable expenses and improve patient health outcomes.
