Datafy Announces Strategic Relationship With Rx.Health

Datafy LLC, creator of an automated SaaS workflow solution that collects and assesses healthcare data privacy criteria, announced an agreement with Rx.Health, an aggregator of health tech applications that integrates with major electronic health record (EHR) systems.

The strategic alignment enables faster onboarding and adoption of clinically-validated health technologies by automating the process of HIPAA compliance reviews.

“Many new medical treatments today incorporate a digital component involving patient data,” said David Barnett, CEO of Datafy. “This proliferation of digital health therapies has placed a tremendous administrative burden upon hospitals, health systems and their vendors to comply with regulations governing the secure handling of information. Our solution automates a tedious process and enables the vendors on Rx.Health’s platform to deliver viable, compliant health solutions more quickly.”

Rx.Health Vice President Gaurav Narang added, “We are very excited to feature Datafy’s automated compliance process as part of our platform’s added value. We validate hundreds of digital assets including apps, remote monitoring solutions, digital therapeutics (DTx) and other digital enablers before stitching them together in rules-based clinically curated digital navigation pathways (DNPs) for both fee-for-service and at-risk population in ACO and bundles. Our relationship with Datafy will reduce the time required for our vendors and clinicians to fulfill a compliance review and allow faster access to newer DNPs.”

As part of the working relationship, digital health vendors will participate in a HIPAA compliance review process led by Datafy, in addition to the clinical validation assessed by Rx.Health. Hospitals, health systems and clinical care providers will know if a vendor on the Rx.Health platform successfully meets minimum criteria for information security.

Originally developed and piloted at Mount Sinai Health System, the Rx.Health platform currently features more than 300 innovative digital therapies available to prescribing clinicians. It offers full integration with existing EHR systems to allow for the inclusion of various digital assets in conjunction with current treatments.

About Datafy:

Datafy streamlines the process of documenting patient data protections and healthcare information security compliance. As a subscription platform, it supports healthcare delivery systems and IT vendors with a simplified, cloud-based workflow that allows for the easy exchange of information and collaboration via a standardized security template. Grove City Medical Center Enters New Era as Part of Allegheny Health Network

“Our organization grows stronger today as we welcome these many exceptional caregivers at Grove City Medical Center into the AHN family,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, AHN President and CEO.

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Grove City Medical Center (GCMC) have finalized an affiliation agreement that officially brings GCMC into the family of hospitals affiliated with and operated by the Pittsburgh-based health system. The newly-branded AHN Grove City provides the network and its patients with a vital new access point for high-quality acute care services between Pittsburgh and Erie, with plans to further expand and enhance those services for residents of Mercer County and the surrounding region.

“Today we celebrate the beginning of an exciting new era of health care excellence in Mercer County as an affiliate of Allegheny Health Network and Highmark Health,” said Timothy R. Bonner, chairman of GCMC’s Board of Directors. “As we expressed last summer when reaching our affiliation agreement with AHN, we could not have found a partner more closely aligned with and committed to the charitable mission, vision and values that have defined our hospital and its dedicated caregivers for more than four decades.”

AHN plans to invest more than $40 million over the next decade to strengthen AHN Grove City’s clinical programs, technological capabilities and physical infrastructure. The network will add or enhance a host of clinical services at the hospital, including primary care, neurology, oncology, cardiology, behavioral health, orthopedics, pediatrics, and general surgery, while also expanding onsite telehealth capabilities to include tele-dermatology, tele-stroke and autoimmune consultations, among other specialties.

One of the first big investments being made at AHN Grove City is an upgrade of the hospital’s information technology infrastructure, including installation of the Epic electronic health record system at both the main campus and affiliated satellite facilities throughout the community. AHN is the largest health care network in western Pennsylvania with a singular integrated electronic health record across its many sites of care.

Through the affiliation, a new independent Grove City Health Care Foundation has also been established with an initial endowment of approximately $30 million that will be spent on local health and wellness initiatives.

“Rural hospitals are critically important to the health and well-being of the populations they serve, and there is no better example than the outstanding services provided to this community by the employees, volunteers and affiliated clinicians of AHN Grove City,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, President and CEO of Allegheny Health Network. “Our organization grows stronger today as we welcome these many exceptional caregivers into the AHN family, and we cannot wait to start working together to provide the residents of Grove City and the surrounding region with more of the high-quality, close-to-home health services they need and deserve.”

AHN Grove City is the network’s eighth acute care facility located in western Pennsylvania and ninth hospital overall. The network is also currently in the process of building five additional hospitals in the greater Pittsburgh area, including a 160-bed full service hospital in Wexford, PA and four smaller scale neighborhood hospitals in suburban communities north, south and east of the city.

Together with Highmark Health, AHN has invested more than $1.5 billion over the past five years to improve access to the network’s services, including construction of the new hospitals, multiple community cancer centers and other outpatient facilities, and the expansion and enhancement of facilities and programs at its existing hospitals.

Residents of the Grove City region have received their medical care from AHN physicians for many years, both through affiliated services and practice locations in the community and transitions to Allegheny General Hospital for higher level care when needed.

About AHN Grove City

AHN Grove City is a 67-bed acute care hospital in Mercer County. The hospital, which employees approximately 400 health care professionals, also operates six outpatient clinics and lab sites throughout its service footprint, offering cancer care, cardiac care, lab services, home health, and imaging services. AHN Grove City opened in November 1981, created through the merger of Grove City Hospital and Bashline Memorial Hospital, both of which were founded in the early 1900s. For more information, visit http://www.gcmcpa.org.

About Allegheny Health Network

Allegheny Health Network (http://www.AHN.org), a Highmark Health company, is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving the greater Western Pennsylvania region. Among the network’s 250 clinical locations are nine hospitals — Allegheny General Hospital, its flagship academic medical center in Pittsburgh; Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Pa.; Canonsburg Hospital in Canonsburg, Pa.; Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Pa.; Grove City Hospital in Grove City, Pa, Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, Pa.; Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa.; West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh; and Westfield Memorial Hospital in Westfield, NY. The network employs approximately 21,000 people and has more than 2,400 doctors on its medical staff. Myant to Demonstrate Connected Textiles for Fitness and Cycling at CES 2020 that Enable New Modes of Textile-Based Performance Optimization

News Image

The quantification of performance has become a critical aspect of training and performance optimization for athletes, who have relied on performance quantification technologies to fine tune their performance, understand how to push harder, and when to pull back to avoid injury.

Myant Inc., pioneers in Textile Computing™, will be exhibiting at CES 2020 in Las Vegas and showcasing a system of connected performance apparel (including a pair of connected cycling shorts) designed to augment fitness experiences, connecting athletes to their bodies, their training partners and coaches. Connected fitness represents just one facet of a life connected through textile that Myant is creating. These garments along with other connected textile form factors are poised to change the way people across society work, care for each other, and play.

The quantification of performance has become a critical aspect of training and performance optimization for athletes, and for cyclists in particular who have relied on performance quantification technologies to fine tune their performance, understand how to push harder, and when to pull back to avoid injury. The objective quantification of performance also serves as a motivational tool, helping to demonstrate progress over time and versus the competition. While many such tools exist, the individual measurement tools are often difficult to swap between bikes and the data generated from various tools are locked in their own platforms making it difficult to obtain a holistic view of performance.

Recognizing these challenges, Myant has been applying their expertise in textiles that can sense and react to the human body and is developing a line of fitness & performance apparel that consolidates numerous performance measurement tools into a single textile-based measurement platform. Different textile form factors (e.g. sports bra, underwear, sweat band, compression tights, etc.) all will have the ability to contribute data towards building a holistic picture of your performance and provide deeper context and understanding on how your broader life off the field (i.e. your sleep, your daily activity, etc.) is impacting your performance on the field. One such garment in development is a pair of connected cycling shorts with EMG sensors knitted directly into the textile which in combination with data captured by other connected garments (such as the connected athletic shoe or ECG shirt) enables access to a variety of performance metrics like fatigue, power output and blood/muscle oxygenation.

Other potential capabilities that can be integrated into fitness & performance apparel include posture detection and haptic feedback to correct form, heart rate via continuous ECG monitoring, respiration monitoring, blood pressure tracking, electrolyte-level monitoring via sweat sensing, activity tracking, electronically-controlled moisture management, and more. The cycling shorts and other fitness & performance interfaces will be on display in Myant’s booth at CES 2020, happening January 7th to 10th in Las Vegas.

The data generated by these textile-based sensors will be fed to the Myant Platform which aggregates these different data types to provide a single holistic view of your fitness & performance. Using machine learning on the Myant Platform, users will also be able to identify and predict performance issues, unlocking a new level of optimization. The insights derived from this data can be shared back to the athlete but also shared with training partners and coaches to augment the training experience. Training partners can share their data via apps connected to the Myant Platform, providing the social motivation to improve and push through.

The optimization of performance through connected textiles is just one of the many possibilities enabled by the Myant Platform, which provides a continuous and ambient connection between people and their bodies, their communities, and their environments across all aspects of daily life (i.e. home, work, and play). Myant’s presence at CES 2020 was designed to encourage others envision these possibilities, inspiring the world to challenge the way they see everyday textile and to reimagine the value that these objects can provide. Myant invites you to visit their booth at CES 2020 (Booth #43925, Sands Expo, Health & Wellness) to discover more about a world connected by textile.

Practicing Active Aging in 2020

As a new year begins, it’s an ideal time to establish healthier habits for the future. For most, making time for physical activity, even a few times a week, can be greatly beneficial for overall health, but this is especially true for older adults.

Regular exercise has been shown to increase cognitive function, prevent many common diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, improve mood, strengthen bones and even reduce risk of dangerous falls. Despite the benefits, the United Health Foundation’s 2019 Annual Report, showed more than 31 percent of Americans age 65 or older reported participating in no physical activity or exercise other than their regular job in the past 30 days.

“No matter your age, fitness level or restrictions, there are countless ways for each and every person to increase their physical health,” said Lakelyn Hogan, gerontologist and caregiver advocate at Home Instead Senior Care. “Whether you choose to try low impact exercises like walking, yoga or water aerobics, or something more adventurous, every little bit is helpful to strengthen the mind and body.”

To avoid feeling overwhelmed at the thought of starting a new exercise routine, Hogan suggests starting slow and working your way towards at least one activity a few times a week. Some ideas include:

  • Start Slow. If you’re not used to exercising regularly, start with activities that will warm up your muscles and joints. Exercises like seated hip marches and ankle rolls help with balance and flexibility, while torso twists and shoulder presses help seniors build strength and muscle.
  • Try a Local Gym. Local gyms may offer group fitness classes, perfect for seniors looking to socialize with friends while working out. Generally led by skilled and certified professionals, classes can often be tailored to unique personal needs. What’s more, classes often occur at the same time each week, so you can make a habit of exercising and add it to your weekly schedule.
  • Seek Out Professional Advice. Working with a personal trainer can be especially valuable for those just getting started. Take this opportunity to discuss what types of activities you’re most interested in trying and what modifications could be helpful. By learning the right exercises for your unique needs, you’ll be able to ensure a safe and beneficial fitness plan. Before you begin any exercise program, it’s worth discussing with your physician.
  • Stroll at Home. You don’t always need equipment, a gym or a trainer to exercise. Sometimes, all it takes is a brisk walk around the neighborhood to help stay fit. The best part about walking is that you can do it anywhere and at any time! To increase the overall health benefits, invite friends or family along for a causal stroll to catch up.
  • Have Fun. Sports like tennis and golf are fantastic ways for seniors to get outside, get active and interact with others. The beauty of these sports is that they are timeless, and you don’t have to be a pro to play. There are many golf and tennis leagues specifically for seniors.

No matter your age, increasing physical activity can help you live a longer, healthier and more independent life. This year, find new ways to achieve your health goals. For more information on how to get started, visit
