Greenlight Guru Releases The AI in MedTech Trend Report 2023

  • Just 32% of respondents use AI tools in their day-to-day work, yet 85% were interested in exploring AI applications further.
  • AI adoption varies by role: Manufacturing & Operations (50%), Clinical roles (40%), and Quality & Regulatory Affairs (28%).
  • Over 80% of respondents are using ChatGPT. Other popular tools include Bard, Fireflies, and Midjourney.
  • Respondents cited concerns about the accuracy of data or answers, decision-making errors, and potential regulatory, privacy, and cybersecurity issues.

“What the Trend Report tells us is that there is tremendous interest in AI tools in the MedTech space, but that interest is tempered by concerns about data accuracy, especially when it comes to making key decisions based on AI outputs,” said Tyler Foxworthy, Chief Data Scientist at Greenlight Guru. “The industry needs more MedTech-specific AI tools they can trust both for patient safety and regulatory purposes.”

The Trend Report is part of Greenlight Guru’s larger push to integrate the power of AI into the MedTech space. In May of 2023, the company released Risk Intelligence, which helps users identify and assess the most relevant risks for their devices using AI and advanced statistical models powered by real-world data. The forthcoming Digital Guru, currently in Beta testing, is the only chat solution specifically trained on MedTech industry regulations, requirements, and best practices, and specifically tailored for MedTech companies. This solution will enable MedTech professionals to get instant and accurate answers to commonly asked questions about a range of industry topics, from product risk profiles to regulatory changes.

“Our focus has always been on helping the MedTech industry deliver safe and innovative products that will improve the quality of life for patients around the world,” said David DeRam, CEO of Greenlight Guru. “As we continue to add AI applications to our products and develop new solutions, that focus will help ensure that our customers and the patients they serve are at the forefront of everything we do. The Trend Report confirms that the demand for AI tools is high, but so is the bar we’ve set for quality in the MedTech industry.”

For a closer look at the findings, you can find the full AI in MedTech Trend Report 2023 here.

Greenlight Guru will host a free virtual event covering AI in MedTech on December 7, which will include an in-depth presentation on the report findings. More information and event sign-up can be found here.

Freshpaint Unveils Healthcare Privacy Platform Empowering Privacy-First Marketing That Ensures HIPAA Compliance

With a dedicated privacy platform, healthcare organizations will be in compliance with HIPAA through technology that allows them to understand and govern the data shared to third-party tools. The Freshpaint Healthcare Privacy Platform includes:

  • Embedded video support: Allows healthcare organizations to use tools like YouTube on websites, while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
  • Web tracker monitoring: Gives marketers visibility into all third-party web trackers that may be running on websites and other digital platforms. With this information at their fingertips, companies can swiftly identify and address any potential privacy risks, ensuring patient data remains protected at all times.
  • Data governance verification: Gives healthcare organizations a clear picture of exactly what data is being shared to end destinations. This transparency not only builds trust but also ensures that organizations can quickly spot, and stop, any irregularities.
  • BAA-supported platform: Replaces non-HIPAA compliant tracking technologies and centralizes the collection of website visitor data in a platform backed by a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).
  • A safe-by-default approach: Helps eliminate human error by giving users an opt-in approach to data sharing for tools that aren’t HIPAA compliant.
  • Built-in deidentification: Creates an anonymous visitor ID and uses irreversible cryptographic hashing to de-identify data. Analytics platforms use that anonymous ID to create the complete visitor journey without knowing the visitor’s identity.
  • Industry-best marketing integrations: Prevent protected health information from inadvertently being shared with tools that healthcare marketers rely on, like analytics, direct response advertising, and programmatic ads.

“In today’s post-guidance world, many healthcare organizations are pleading for a clear and durable path forward that balances HIPAA compliance and high-performance marketing,” said Steven Fitzsimmons, CEO and co-founder of Freshpaint. “We are giving healthcare organizations the power to take a privacy-first approach to marketing, not just today but in the future as privacy regulations change.”

Freshpaint’s Healthcare Privacy Platform is already used by Baptist Health, Vybe Urgent Care, Boulder Community Health, and other healthcare organizations of all sizes. With Freshpaint’s Healthcare Privacy Platform, the healthcare sector can look forward to a future where digital innovation and patient privacy go hand in hand.

Veradermics Doses First Patient in a First-in-Human Clinical Trial for VDPHL for the Treatment of Pattern Hair Loss (Androgenetic Alopecia)

VDPHL is a once-daily non-hormonal oral therapeutic being developed as a treatment for pattern hair loss

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 7, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Veradermics Inc., a clinical-stage medical dermatology company with a pipeline of first-in-class product candidates targeting highly prevalent immunologic and dermatologic conditions, today announced it has commenced dosing in a First-in-Human clinical trial of VDPHL, an investigational, proprietary, non-hormonal oral treatment being developed for pattern hair loss.

Pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is the most common form of hair loss in the world, impacting 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. alone. Existing treatments include topical minoxidil, which faces high discontinuation rates, and oral finasteride, which is only FDA-approved for men and can be associated with unwanted sexual side effects. Veradermics’ VDPHL, a non-hormonal oral therapeutic, has the potential to become a preferred treatment approach for both men and women suffering from pattern hair loss.

“Veradermics is extremely excited to take a step towards addressing the pervasive therapeutic challenge associated with treating pattern hair loss,” said Reid Waldman, MD, CEO of Veradermics. “VDPHL is our second proprietary product candidate advanced into clinical trials in 2023, highlighting the company’s steadfast commitment in and progress towards developing treatments for common skin conditions.”

In 2023, Veradermics also announced the initiation of a Phase 2 trial evaluating VDMN, an immunostimulatory dissolvable microarray patch containing Candida Antigen Extract, for the treatment of common warts. Veradermics’ five-asset pipeline also includes product candidates targeting conditions including alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis, and molluscum contagiosum. The company plans to advance multiple additional product candidates into the clinic in 2024.

“The pattern hair loss treatment landscape urgently needs evidence-based solutions,” added Tim Durso, MD, President of Veradermics. “An oral, non-hormonal treatment like VDPHL has the potential to dramatically change the way hair loss is treated. We are thrilled to announce the dosing of our first patient and are optimistic about the potential impact of VDPHL in this therapeutic category.”

About Veradermics:
Veradermics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company led by experts in dermatology, drug development, and pharmaceutical commercialization that is backed by leading investors in biotech. RevSpring Meets Unique Needs of Small, Rural Healthcare Systems

Engage IQ is facilitating one connected experience to deliver an unmatched level of personalization—which inspires patients in rural healthcare markets to participate in, and pay for, their healthcare—and empowering providers to offer an overall better patient experience while reducing stress on staff. The platform is particularly relevant for healthcare systems and safety net hospitals in rural markets that frequently face greater barriers than larger counterparts.

These barriers include prohibitive technology costs, staffing constraints and limited IT resources for integration. Stretched front desk staff and a frequent lack of call center support also create strains on patients and staff during pre- and post-care engagement. Engage IQ integrates well with existing EHRs to round out engagement and payment capabilities. Other costs are streamlined—such as the need for multiple bolt-on vendors—to deliver an overall affordable solution that returns positive ROI and a better patient experience.

“End-to-end technology solutions from RevSpring are giving rural healthcare systems all the benefits of innovation enjoyed by much larger health systems in urban markets,” said Scott MacKenzie, CEO at RevSpring. “We are delighted to help smaller independent healthcare systems reap the rewards of connected intake, clinical reminders, and billing and payment systems all working together. Such integration puts smaller rural healthcare providers on a more level playing field in today’s financially stressed healthcare industry.”

Fisher-Titus, an independent rural community healthcare system in northern Ohio, recently discontinued relationships with three disparate vendors by adopting Engage IQ. The not-for-profit healthcare system now has access to RevSpring’s complete solutions for patient payments, revenue cycle management and merchant services. Fisher-Titus also is using essential Engage IQ Pre-Care tools—appointment reminders and digital forms—to make patient intake faster and more accurate, and to reduce no shows.

Since implementing the new solutions in March 2023, Fisher-Titus patient use of the Engage IQ payment portal has increased 46.8%, days to pay has decreased from 13.5 to 10.1 and paper volume use has decreased by 39%. Engage IQ Pre-Care tools have reduced patient no-show rate by 2.8%. Fisher-Titus also has seen an increase in patients adopting payment plans without involving customer service reps in the process.

“Partnering with RevSpring is delivering tremendous benefits to Fisher-Titus and our patients,” said Laura Lay, vice president, Revenue Cycle at Fisher-Titus. “I’m especially pleased to hear how much patients appreciate the ability to choose payment plans entirely in private through the payment portal. This respects their financial circumstances and the desire for privacy in a small rural community where everyone knows each other.”

About RevSpring
RevSpring leads the market in engagement and payment solutions that inspire patients to participate in and pay for their healthcare. The company has built the industry’s most comprehensive and impactful patient engagement suite, spanning the clinical, administrative and financial experience. RevSpring’s OmniChannel communications and payment solutions are backed by behavior analysis, propensity-to-pay scoring, contextual messaging, and user experience best practices. Using proprietary data analytics to tailor the engagement from preservice to post-service to payment, RevSpring improves the patient experience and outcomes for providers, members and patients.
