Karviva Wins Leadership Award For “Mindful Innovation of the Year” In 2022 Mindful Awards Program

News Image

We feel that we bring the fundamental principle of mindfulness as a core tenant of our business. We aim to empower individuals to make wise choices on their path to wellness through our connection of ancient wisdom and modern science – Karviva CEO and Founder, Angela Zeng, PhD.

The 2022 Mindful Awards Program, an independent recognition platform highlighting conscious companies and products that mindfully make waves in the ever-expanding world of consumer-packaged goods, today announced that Karviva Beverages has been selected as the winner of the “Mindful Innovation of the Year” award in the Leadership Category.

Karviva Unwined wine replacement juice is Karviva’s latest innovation. Inspired by the rich fruity flavor and chewy texture of Malbec wine, it’s a sophisticated blend of aronia berry and dark cherry – two anti-inflammatory powerhouses. Additional ingredients include schisandra berry and mulberry, two adaptogens that are known to boost immunity, relieve stress, calm the mind and protect the heart. Together, this strikingly burgundy-red juice simulates a perfect taste of Malbec with a smoky aroma, layers of fruitiness and a tantalizing balance between sweet and tannin.

This first-of-its-kind, product, Karviva Unwined, is singular in that its production bypasses the labor intensive and wasteful de-alcohol process while also providing a wide range of health benefits in comparison to other non-alcohol products. A 12oz bottle of Karviva Unwined contains only 80 calories with no added sugar or sweeteners.

Karviva beverages offer the convenience of a single serving portable option – ideal in today’s fast-paced world; the bottle is lightweight, easy to carry and uses BPA free, recyclable level 1 plastic. Karviva only uses real whole fruits, with all edible parts included to maximize the prebiotics, antioxidants and anti-microbial compounds that naturally exist in the fruit skins, therefore minimizing food waste.

The company’s patented production process utilizes a vertical in-house hydroponic garden to grow key ingredients, reducing water usage by up to 90% compared to traditional farming. Their juicing process is designed to eliminate unnecessary storage and transportation steps, reducing their overall carbon footprint.

“We are incredibly grateful to be singled out for a Mindful Award. We feel that we bring the fundamental principle of mindfulness as a core tenant of our business. We aim to empower individuals to make wise choices on their path to wellness through our connection of ancient wisdom and modern science. Out of respect for the mind, body and earth, each drink is produced sustainably,” said Karviva CEO and Founder, Angela Zeng, PhD. “We focus on the selection, sourcing and farming of functional ingredients. Our patented production process reduces waste and has a low carbon footprint and our award-winning package design focused on recyclability – all contributing to our ‘Food Is Better Medicine’ philosophy.”

The mission of the Mindful Awards program is to honor conscious companies and products that do what’s right for people and the planet. Recognizing the best in transparent, fair, natural, organic, sustainable, healthy and delicious products. This year’s program attracted more than 1650 nominations from companies all over the world. All nominations are evaluated by an independent panel of experts within the consumer-packaged goods industry, with the winning products and companies selected based on a variety of criteria, ranging from brand principles, environmental impact, health, taste and transparency.

“Karviva is truly setting the bar for how mindful companies are operating in today’s conscious environment. From start to finish, their Karviva Unwined replacement juice follows a mindful ethos of compassion, sustainability, environmental and personal health and responsibility,” said Travis Grant, Managing Director, Mindful Awards. “Karviva’s Unwined is a great wine alternative to spice up an alcohol-free lifestyle. It’s a functional and innovative wine substitute that is mindfully and eco-consciously produced on every level while maintaining its amazing health benefiting flavor. Congratulations on winning the ‘Mindful Innovation of the Year’ award.”

Karviva is committed to freshness, transparency and using clean ingredients, reflected in their artfully designed bottles, so that consumers can feel confident they are enjoying premium functional ingredients in every sip.

The Anabolic Window For Muscle Growth

WSJ Bestselling book, Weightlifting is a Waste of Time – So is Cardio

“When you go to the gym, you’ll see lots of guys dropping their weights and picking up a shaker cup containing a protein drink because they think they’ve got to get their nutrition precisely within an anabolic window”. John Jaquish, PhD

Scientist, Inventor, and author Dr. John Jaquish, didn’t set out to investigate falsehoods circulating in the fitness industry — erroneous concepts often learned at the gym. Rather, he was digging through studies on nutrition timing and exercise to formulate training regimens that could optimally build muscle and burn fat. It was during this research he discovered that there was no scientific merit to one of the fitness industry’s most widely-shared myths – “the anabolic window”.

The “anabolic window”, aka Fitness Myth #9 in Dr. Jaquish’s book Weightlifting is a Waste of Time, refers to a period post-workout said to be the most critical part of nutrient timing; the time when the body is more apt to absorb protein and enhance muscular growth. The window represents a period of time 30-60 minutes after exercise.

“When you go to the gym, you’ll see lots of guys dropping their weights and picking up a shaker cup containing a protein drink because they think they’ve got to get their nutrition precisely within an anabolic window,” says Dr. Jaquish. “But nearly 100 studies on nutrient timing suggest otherwise. No matter when you nourish yourself you’re going to build muscle as long as you’re getting enough protein and working with heavy enough resistance.”

Dr. Jaquish suggests that the anabolic window myth perhaps came about from bodybuilders who temporarily use carbohydrates to enlarge muscles. “Bodybuilders often restrict carbs until right before a show, then consume a stack of Snickers bars. The carbs immediately go into the muscle, and the muscles just blow up. They look huge. Unfortunately, even with this type of timed eating, the effect is temporary,” says. Dr. Jaquish.

“The truth is, significantly elevated protein synthesis in response to exercise occurs for approximately thirty-six hours after training, a process which normally happens when you’re sleeping,” says Dr. Jaquish.

In his book, Weightlifting is a Waste of Time – So is Cardio, Dr. Jaquish explains meal timing as a part of one’s exercise program and the studies to support this. “Muscles don’t care about timing. They’ll grow under the right conditions no matter when you choose to have a meal.”

Containing an eye-opening collection of fitness industry falsehoods, the book is packed with research results, cutting-edge data on fitness, and details of a better way to have a strong, lean body and good health.

Tickets On Sale For Karate Combat Season 4: Atamov Vs Levine

Two world title fights headline Karate Combat in Orlando on 6/25

“This is a landmark event for Karate Combat – the first time that we’re allowing fans to buy tickets. Until now, you could only attend a Karate Combat event by invitation. The atmosphere will be electric and I expect this to be the best event in Karate Combat history.”

Karate Combat, the global phenomenon changing the game in sports-entertainment, heads to Stage 21 on The Backlot at Universal Studios, Florida on Saturday, June 25 for a landmark live event – and for the first time ever, Karate Combat is making tickets available to the public.

Tickets go on sale today, Monday June 6, via Karate.com/tickets

With tickets very limited for this first-time opportunity to experience the world’s most unique fight league first-hand, fans are advised to book tickets early to avoid missing out.

Karate Combat: Season 4 – Atamov vs. Levine is headlined by two world title fights and will also host the Karate Combat debut of former Bellator and GLORY Kickboxing champion Gabriel Varga.

“This is a landmark event for Karate Combat – the first time that we’re allowing fans to buy tickets. Until now, you could only attend a Karate Combat event by invitation. We’re putting on a stacked card at an iconic location, the atmosphere will be electric and I expect this to be the best event in Karate Combat history,” said Karate Combat President Adam Kovacs.

Rhode Island’s Ross ‘Turbo’ Levine will challenge reigning middleweight champion Shahin Atamov of Azerbaijan for the Karate Combat World Middleweight Championship in the headline slot, having earned his shot with a stunning spin-kick TKO victory over Igor de Castaneda earlier this month.

Ireland’s Eoghan Chelmiah, the Karate Combat World Bantamweight Champion, will rematch bitter rival Illies ‘The Madman’ Mardhi in the chief support slot, the two picking up where they left off after their Season 3 bout was cut short due to the French-Moroccan breaking his right hand during the course of a four-round war.

With one Bellator Kickboxing world championship and two GLORY Kickboxing world titles to his credit, Vancouver’s Gabriel Varga is one of the world’s most decorated professional karatekas. He will debut on this card in a lightweight bout, with Karate Combat targeting the winner of next week’s bout between top contenders Vitalie Certan and Bruno Assis as his opponent.

And if legendary competitor Rafael Aghayev wins his bout with Zsolt Habda at this week’s event, he will be added to the Orlando card for a long-awaited showdown with bitter rival Davy Dona. The two have a longstanding beef from their time on the amateur circuit – Orlando may be the place it gets settled.

Also confirmed for the card is the deadly Omaira ‘La Guerrera’ Molina. The Venezuelan’s victories in Season 3 included a jaw-dropping knockout and two awards (Best Female Fighter; KO Punch of the Season) in the fan-voted official End-of-Season awards. Now 3-0 in Karate Combat, she faces Brazilian battler Ana Ferreira Da Silva and will be calling for a world title shot if she wins.

Light-heavyweight contender Elhadji “Black Magic” Ndour returns to The Pit at this event, traveling from New York to face heavy-handed Moroccan rival Achraf Ouchen in a battle which will shape the division’s world title contention picture.

Canadian standout Robbie Lavoie, a longtime student of Raymond “Real Deal” Daniels and member of the Canadian national team, makes his Karate Combat debut against France’s Mouley Oudoud, who is coming off a Season 3 loss to bantamweight champion Chelmiah.

Rounding out the card’s Canadian contingent is Rob Buxton, who faces Adrian Galvan, a Team USA competitor, in a middleweight contest.

The full event card as announced to date is as follows:

Shahin Atamov (AZE) vs. Ross Levine (USA)

Middleweight Championship Bout (185 lbs / 84 kg)

Zuf Globus introduces MEL, the world’s first line of non-infused, natural herbal honeys, to the U.S.

Zuf Globus Healthy beehive products from plants

Zuf Globus Healthy beehive products from plants

The difference is in the bees’ diet!

MELs are far different from traditional honey. One spoonful of traditional honey has about 120 active ingredients. One spoonful of MEL contains thousands of active ingredients. That’s because traditional honey production relies on the bees foraging on nearby nectar and pollen.

Zuf Globus’ honey bees are fed special extracts created from plants known for their wellness properties, as defined in the World Health Organization Pharmacopeia. Zuf Globus researchers have discovered that when honey bees are fed these special extracts, they significantly increase the potency of each ingredient and create new active beneficial compounds that didn’t exist in the original herbs. Their final products are safely and easily absorbed by the human body.*

Available on Amazon, consumers can choose from these highly effective bee-based formulas:

  • LifeMEL: The most popular in the MEL lineup, LifeMEL is made using 16-herbs known to support the immune system during stressful times.
  • BronchoMEL: Contains a unique blend of herbs and botanicals, including Black Elderberry and Eucalyptus, well known to support respiratory and immune health.
  • ClearMEL: Ideal for smokers, this contains an antioxidant-rich blend of herbs that support the healthy lining of the lungs, in addition to the overall respiratory system.
  • DefenseMEL: Uses the power of plants to support the body’s natural detox process and supports healthy immune function.

Gynecomastia Surgery Study in Young Men Highlights the Benefits of Male Breast Reduction in Patients of All Ages, says Dr. Michael Jazayeri

Dr. Michael Jazayeri is a board-certified plastic surgeon with offices in Newport Beach and Santa Ana, California.

Patients have consistently reported feeling much greater confidence and comfort in their own skin in a wide variety of social situations, including during times when they are fully dressed.

A May 26 article on EurekAlert covers a study looking at outcomes of breast reduction surgery in boys and young men suffering from gynecomastia (enlarged breasts). The study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), found that reduction procedures for young men led to “significant improvement in self-esteem and almost every aspect of quality of life.” Researchers also found that the participants in the study experienced these benefits even in cases where they were dealing with highly treatable minor complications. Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Jazayeri says that his experience with adult patients showed a similar pattern of success.

Dr. Jazayeri notes that patients like those featured on his website’s gynecomastia treatment before-and-after gallery have consistently reported feeling much greater confidence and comfort in their own skin in a wide variety of social situations, including during times when they are fully dressed. The doctor adds that a great many men, many of whom may have had weight issues as youngsters, have painful memories of being mocked or bullied due to “man boobs,” especially during and after puberty. When these issues linger, the sting can last well into adulthood and have real social and psychological impacts.

The plastic surgeon adds that, even in a society where excess weight is widespread, men who may be otherwise comfortable being seen by a pool or at the beach with a “dad bod” are nevertheless likely to be excessively embarrassed if their breasts are unusually large. He adds that cruel teasing is not unheard of even among full-grown adults who should know better.

Dr. Jazayeri adds that, while a lot of gynecomastia is associated with being overweight or obese, it may also occur in the most physically fit male specimens. The doctor notes that ultra-muscular superstar Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson has gone public with a gynecomastia procedure earlier in his career. Johnson credits the surgery with giving him greater confidence in his frequently shirtless career as a pro-wrestler and actor. The board-certified plastic surgeon notes that, perhaps because oversize breasts are such a sensitive and painful matter for many men of all body types, his male breast reduction patients are consistently thrilled and relieved by their outcomes.

Readers can learn more about Dr. Michael Jazayeri by visiting his website at https://drjaz.com/ or by calling (714) 834-0101. The doctor offers his services from two Orange County locations in the cities of Newport Beach and Santa Ana.

PRI Makes Strides Towards Clearer Manuka Honey Labeling & Testing Transparency With a Whole New Look

Manuka Honey jars with new honey drip labels

PRI Manuka Honey’s All New Look

Manuka Honey Label-reading just got easier

Customers don’t have hours to spend researching everything. After months of deliberation, and gathering feedback from loyal customers PRI is excited to announce that they are moving to a quick and easy rating system that will help customers be able to understand their honey at-a-glance.

In June 2022, P.R.I. will be moving to a single-number MGO on the label, and a scannable QR code (for those of who crave all the juicy details about what’s in their jar.)

“We believe making a purchase shouldn’t require hours of research! To that end, the PRI team has long been in discussion to find the best way to label our Manuka Honey strengths in a clear and transparent manner. As the original importer of manuka honey to the U.S., we have used the standard rating systems originally used by all, to differentiate the strengths of Manuka.

However, over the years, our understanding of what makes manuka honey unique has expanded tremendously & testing and regulations have evolved along with that knowledge. MGO has now become a standard around the world for labeling the strengths of Manuka Honey. Our first step was to introduce the MGO level on our labels, putting this next to our original rating numbers. We hoped this would help customers in the transition and be able to easily compare our Manuka to that of the newer Manuka companies that have popped up over the last few years. Over the last 6 months, we have been gathering feedback from our customers and other experts in the field, and we decided to relaunch our Manuka range with just 1 number – MGO. Additionally, we are giving our customers a way to easily access test results for each batch of manuka honey we sell via a QR code* right on the label. Simply scan the code with your phone for all the details about your honey!”
