Dental Care Alliance Announces Formation of New Specialty Support Division

Dental Care Alliance Announces Formation of New Specialty Support Division

“I look forward to creating an environment where specialists lead specialists, operations are tailored to their specific needs, and DCA continues to grow as the partner of choice for the industry’s best dental professionals,” Dr. Sarah Balaster, Chief Dental Officer for Adult Specialty and Hygiene

Dental Care Alliance (DCA) has announced a new organizational structure and the creation of a second specialty support division, a model that provides dedicated support to its over 100 allied standalone specialty dental practices encompassing pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery. This restructure is an evolution intended to better reflect the diversity and unique needs of DCA’s supported practices. Under this new model, DCA will now house two dedicated specialty support divisions in addition to support divisions focused on general dentistry practices. The new specialty division will allow for growth and focused support of Adult Specialty (Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, and Oral Surgery), a strategy that has proven successful in the last few years in DCA’s Family Specialty (Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry) division. Each of the divisions will have separate management support teams, positioning each as a unique and fully supported operating unit. With more than 30 years of successful growth and one of the most diversified portfolios in the DSO industry, this reorganization reflects DCA’s plans for future expansion in supporting both general dentistry and specialty practices.

“Today DCA successfully supports approximately 300 recognized specialists, with the vast majority in standalone specialty practices. We understand the different business expertise specialty practices requires, and we have three decades of experience unlocking growth potential for specialists,” states Jerry Rhodes, DCA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Carving out specific Specialty support divisions better represents DCA’s business model and depths of expertise. DCA has more experience supporting specialists than many of the smaller specialty DSOs in the industry, and we want to highlight our success in these areas as we continue to attract and support more allied specialists. This evolution of DCA pairs well with our plans to increase market density across all supported specialties so that our allied practices can meet 100% of patients’ dental needs across their lifetime.”

DCA’s track record of supporting sustained growth of specialty practices is illustrated by a 17% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the segment since 2016. In total, DCA currently supports more than 370 allied practices across 21 states. Specialty accounts for about 35% of the business today, and significant growth is projected into the future.

Dr. Sarah Balaster will serve as Chief Dental Officer for (Adult) Specialty and Hygiene. Dr. Balaster, who will continue to practice one day per week and is board certified in periodontology and dental implant surgery, shared “I am thrilled to serve as Chief Dental Officer for Adult Specialty and Hygiene. The formation of this division will serve both to fully empower and support our allied clinicians in providing state of the art oral health care for patients. I look forward to creating an environment where specialists lead specialists, operations are tailored to their specific needs, and DCA continues to grow as the partner of choice for the industry’s best dental professionals.”

With dedicated specialty support divisions, DCA has established an improved structure that is reflective of its size, scale, and scope and solidifies its role as an agile leader in the DSO space. DCA is the only leading DSO to have distinct support divisions dedicated to each practice type, General Dentistry, Orthodontics/Pediatrics and Adult Specialty. The new structure will enhance DCA’s ability to build market density in key regions across all office types and will further set the organization apart in the DSO space.

Founded in 1991 by Dr. Steve Matzkin, Dental Care Alliance’s mission is to advance the practice of dentistry by partnering with and supporting dental professionals to create a lifetime of healthy smiles. DCA currently supports over 370 allied practices with more than 775 dentists across 21 states. DCA’s allied practices represent all dental specialties and treat patients under more than 140 brand names.

Heightened Focus on Health and Wellness Reshaping Apparel, Footwear, and Sporting Goods Markets, Says NPD

With 44% of U.S. consumers placing more focus on their overall health and wellness today than they did before the pandemic, apparel, footwear, and sports equipment categories rooted in comfort and outdoor lifestyles are growing in sales. Corresponding with consumers’ evolving definition of wellness, January through April sales for comfort and athleisure clothing, performance-based footwear styles, and outdoor and sports equipment grew significantly since pre-pandemic 2019 — and sales also remain elevated compared to last year, according to The NPD Group.

Diet and exercise continue to lead in terms of consumers’ health and wellness priorities; however, areas including wearing comfortable clothing and limiting screen time all grew in importance, according to findings from an NPD survey done in conjunction with CivicScience.

In the apparel market, activewear sales revenue increased by 39%, from January through April 2022, versus 2019, compared to non-active apparel which grew 1%, according to Consumer Tracking Service data from NPD.

“To look their best, people must also feel their best,” said Maria Rugolo, apparel industry analyst at NPD. “And while people still want to look fashionable, comfort and versatility remain key reasons why they make a clothing purchase for themselves. With changing economic times, versatile items that can be worn for various occasions and seasons can ease consumers into making an investment during uncertain times.”

Wellness is making its mark on the footwear industry, as well. Sales of running and hiking footwear grew by about 20% through April, versus three years ago, and walking shoes grew over 30%, as interest in these fitness and leisure activities have increased since the start of the pandemic.

“Today, wellness and comfort go hand-in-hand, and the sales data shows that consumers are increasingly purchasing running and walking shoes for casual, everyday use,” said Beth Goldstein, fashion footwear and accessories analyst at NPD. “Comfort has always been the top footwear feature in terms of importance or purchase driver, but its role has evolved; the comfort has become the fashion.”

In addition to footwear and apparel, sports equipment products enabling consumers to embrace the outdoors and enhance outdoor experiences are also sticking around. In fact, outdoor industry revenue is 25% higher in 2022 than it was in 2019, according to Retail Tracking Service data from NPD. Sales revenue increased for camping accessories, coolers, rock climbing equipment, team sports equipment, high-end bikes, and other products.

“Consumers are broadening their definition of wellness, as the pandemic increased our focus on our inner and mental health,” said Dirk Sorenson, sports industry analyst at NPD. “As we reemerge from the pandemic, there are durable habits that consumers have learned to embrace, from getting outside, to investing in products that bring us joy.”

In its recent “Future of Style” event, NPD analysts discussed how macro retail trends are affecting the fashion, beauty, and sporting goods industries. Click here for more information on the Future of Style 2022.

Author Combines Bible Verses with Easy-to-Follow Explanations to Educate Readers About God’s True Message

News Image

“One of God’s gifts to me is the ability to condense complicated information, leaving the essence to be absorbed without the distractions of unnecessary details,” Cohen said. “This gift and the challenges the Bible presents are the reasons for this book.”

After spending over three decades studying the Bible, author Bill Cohen has written an easily-accessible book to help others expedite the process to accept Jesus as their savior.

In “God’s Only Law,” Cohen describes the journey God has created for people and why that journey is necessary. By transcribing actual verses from the Bible, followed by informative discussions and reasonings, he clearly communicates what God’s “Law of Love” looks like.

“One of God’s gifts to me is the ability to condense complicated information, leaving the essence to be absorbed without the distractions of unnecessary details,” Cohen said. “This gift and the challenges the Bible presents are the reasons for this book.”

Cohen, who has published other books has noble plans for “God’s Only Law.” His main goal is to maximize the number of people who will be introduced to Jesus.

“I want to share that we cannot force someone to love us, so we must love them unconditionally, and accept whatever they choose to do with that,” Cohen said. “God asks us to live this life as we will live in heaven, loving everyone. That is his Law of Love.”

Any proceeds from the sales of this book Cohen plans to use to print more copies and share God’s message.

Whoa Dough, Maker of Gluten-Free, Plant-Based Cookie Dough Bars is First-time Exhibitor at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2022

Whoa Dough edible cookie dough bars

We are thrilled to exhibit for the first time at the Summer Fancy Food Show. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us, and we could not be more excited to get a lot of our cookie dough bars into people’s hands.

Whoa Dough, the maker of a delicious line of healthy, plant-based on-the-go cookie dough bars, will showcase the line’s six flavors at the company’s inaugural appearance at the 2022 Summer Fancy Food Show, June 12-14, at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York. Whoa Dough, which is exhibiting in booth #6205, will be offering free samples.

“We are thrilled to exhibit for the first time at the Fancy Food Show,” said Todd Goldstein, self-proclaimed, “dadrepreneur” and founder of Whoa Dough. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us, and we could not be more excited to get a lot of our cookie dough bars into people’s hands,” he said.

Whoa Dough bars were invented by Goldstein, whose family was looking for tasty but healthier gluten-free snacks for his two young sons, who are both gluten-intolerant, along with Goldstein. The family sought a snack that tasted great and which they all could enjoy. After multiple tries to make the tastiest bar possible, Whoa Dough has become the healthier, better-for-you option for many with dietary restrictions.

The yummy, plant-based Whoa Dough line is Certified Gluten-Free, Vegan, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, OU Kosher, and Non-GMO Project Verified. The bars contain a number of allergy-friendly ingredients like whole-grain oat flour and chickpea flower, and are lower in calories than most comparable snacks (between 140 – 170 calories per serving). Best of all, they taste just like homemade cookie dough.

Whoa Dough bars are available in six flavors: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Brownie Batter Cookie Dough, Sugar Cookie Dough, Sprinkle Sugar Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

Presented by the Specialty Food Association, 2022 The Summer Fancy Food Show is a trade-only event. To register, please visit specialtyfood.com.

About Whoa Dough

Whoa Dough is a cookie dough company on a mission to bring more snack-happiness to the world. Sweet, right? Whoa Dough was launched in 2020 by one smart cookie who, along with his sons, had been diagnosed with gluten intolerance. But what began as a bummer became a big idea that took cookie dough where it had never been before. Today, Whoa Dough is home to wildly craveable cookie dough snack bars that are certified gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and egg-free. Plus, each dough-licious bar contains 4–5g of protein, less than 10g of sugar, and 100% plant-based ingredients. Whoa. Just, whoa.

dicentra Helps NNB Nutrition Achieve Self-Affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) Status for Its Antioxidant MitoPrime® And Exercise Factor MitoBurn®

News Image

“We are very proud to have contributed to NNB’s successful Self-Affirmed GRAS status for their two products MitoPrime® and MitoBurn®,” said Dr. Karol Wojewnik, Partner, dicentra.

Leading contract research organization and professional consulting firm dicentra is proud to announce that their valued client, NNB Nutrition, has successfully achieved self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status for their products MitoPrime® and MitoBurn®.

NNB’s MitoPrime® (L-ergothioneine) is a derivative of the α-amino acid histidine, an essential amino acid. As such, L-ergothioneine is not readily synthesized in the body and is acquired exclusively through diet. L-ergothioneine, NNB’s patented, highly enhanced form of L-ergothioneine, is known in the scientific community as the “longevity vitamin”.

It is an antioxidant and research suggests that it has potent cytoprotectant properties. With antioxidation capabilities stronger than any other product known to mankind, this unique ingredient is available in multiple formats, including topical cosmetic applications.

Some topical application claims Mitoprime® can make:

  • Prevents telomeres Shortening
  • Reverses Sun Damage
  • Improves Smoothness & Luminosity
  • Reduction in Pores
  • Protects Collagen
  • Evens SkinTone
  • Increased Elasticity
  • Repairs Skin Mitochondrial Damage
  • Protects Skin cell Membranes
  • Removes Wrinkle-causing cells
  • Strengthens the Skin Microbes

MitoBurn® (β-aminoisobutyric Acid or L-BAIBA) is an exercise factor released during exercise, that is thought to play a critical role in weight management, by initiating the browning of white fat and improving insulin sensitivity.

NNB, an innovative technological enterprise dedicated to research, development, production, and sales of innovative nutrient raw materials, received GRAS status for both MitoPrime® and MitoBurn® in 2021. In June GRAS status was achieved for MitoPrime® on the basis that the ingredient L-ergothioneine is a derivative of histidine, exists naturally in nature, and can be obtained through diet. In September GRAS status was achieved for MitoBurn® on the basis that beta-aminoisobutyric acid is a known catabolite of thymine and valine metabolism in mammals.

dicentra provided an initial analysis of GRAS requirements, conducted literature searches, evaluated published safety data, prepared independent GRAS conclusions, and compiled the self-affirmed GRAS dossiers for NNB Nutrition. dicentra’s expertise was indispensable in demonstrating that both MitoPrime® and MitoBurn® are safe ingredients.

“We are very proud to have contributed to NNB’s successful Self-Affirmed GRAS status for their two products MitoPrime® and MitoBurn®,” said Dr. Karol Wojewnik, Partner, dicentra. “We value their passion and their dedication to providing innovative products that improve the lives of their end consumers.”

“We are not simply a manufacturer of supplements, what we aim for is bringing completely innovative ingredient ideas from the brain to your life,” said Kylin Liao, the founder of NNB. “All the members of the NNB team keep this mission in mind and pursue it unremittingly through the process of concept creation, idea implementation via technology R&D, clinical study, patent filing, flexible manufacturing and marketing. Compared to fancy benefits claims which don’t have any clinical support existing in the industry, NNB values technology a lot more, which leads us to achieve rapid development in R&D along with a good reputation in the industry during the past recent years.”

Bringing the Superfoods and Exotic Fruits of Ecuador to the World

Felipe Guevara, Founder and CEO, AWÁ Nutrition

I knew there was a point of intersection between my passion for fitness and my career. Ultimately, this led me to transforming Ecuador’s unique crops into amazing added value protein nutritional supplements that could be aimed at health and wellness-oriented consumers.

As an expert food technologist, accomplished entrepreneur, and extreme sports enthusiast, Felipe Guevara continues his journey to the forefront of food innovation in his home country of Ecuador and throughout the world. In his most recent and prominent business venture, Guevara is taking his company AWÁ Nutrition internationally, developing, manufacturing and commercializing nutritional supplements made with ancestral Andean superfoods for everyday health conscious individuals, as well as dedicated athletes.

Following significant success in his home country of Ecuador, Guevara wasted no time in taking the brand to the global marketplace. When some would consider celebrating their success in developing a major national brand, AWÁ Nutrition’s CEO continues to expand the company into new markets, and has most recently entered into the United States.

A Lifetime of Multinational Experience

Born and raised in Ecuador, Guevara developed a vast knowledge of the country’s unique crops, agriculture, fruits and flavors at a young age. Pairing this uncommon expertise with his passions for personal fitness and adventure, Felipe would embark on a 20-year, and ongoing, journey through the food/ beverage and nutritional supplement industries. This would ultimately set the foundation for his success in founding AWÁ Nutrition, quickly becoming a global player in the protein supplements category.

At just 18 years old, Guevara dedicated himself to learning everything he could about Ecuador’s agroindustrial environment. Throughout 2003 and 2006, during his studies and R&D work in Europe, he started developing the first quinoa protein concentrates, a significant and disruptive breakthrough concept at the time. After achieving a Masters Degree in Food Technology in Wageningen University in the Netherlands and having worked for major European multinational players in the protein and human nutrition industry like Friesland Campina and Arla Foods Ingredients, he then founded his first company in 2011, Alimlogia Food Consulting, where he developed the first ready to drink horchata beverage, leading a successful launch to bring the unique herbal elixir drink to consumers in Ecuador.

This food and beverage innovation experience would guide him to seamlessly incorporate AWÁ Nutrition’s unique, plant-based superfood ingredient Andean lupin into their products. The use of Andean lupin fulfills a significant and continuously growing consumer trend in plant-based proteins and exotic fruits. Like acai, which is now widely popular in Western countries, was once just a staple of indigenous populations in Brazil.

The Pursuit of a High Performance Active Lifestyle

Matching his high level of entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen, Guevara incorporates an equally important passion into his daily routine — fitness and exercise. He regularly pursues his love for extreme outdoor sports throughout the landscapes of Ecuador, Isla de la Plata, the Galapagos Islands, as well as in other countries in South America and Europe. When at home managing day-to-day operations for AWÁ Nutrition, Guevara balances his work with his personal fitness routine, combining functional exercise, high intensity cardio and weight training.

“My passion for sports and fitness taught me the need to consume protein supplements and reach higher performance levels. I was always trying new supplements to improve muscle growth and recovery and had tried hundreds of brands and protein supplements. However, I just never found one that had a great amino acid profile, was easy to digest, and would cause little to no inflammation,” Guevara said. “I knew there was a point of intersection between my passion for fitness and my career. Ultimately, this led me to transforming Ecuador’s unique crops into amazing added value protein nutritional supplements that could be aimed at health and wellness-oriented consumers.”

Assisted by his food innovation background, Guevara developed AWÁ Nutrition’s products to be all natural, non-inflammatory, nutrient dense and infused with high nutritional quality vegetable protein. In pursuit of a clean label, the products are naturally flavored with fruit concentrates high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that provide important micronutrients for metabolic health and functional benefits. Each of AWÁ Nutrition’s product creations are developed with the consumer in mind — free of allergens, GMO’s and added sugars.

Devotion to Ecuador and the Andes

Guevara’s lifelong vision and business success comes with a deep appreciation and commitment to his Andean heritage. Ecuador’s food, culture, music, family, and exotic environment of the Andes Mountains, coastal region and Amazonian influence has all contributed to the founding of AWÁ Nutrition and his passion for leading the business to global markets.

This background would culminate in the founding of AWÁ Nutrition, with their products frequently referred to as Ancestral Wellness of the Andes. As the success of his company continues far and wide throughout the United States and beyond, Guevara maintains commitment to his roots and true passion to share the beauty of Ecuador with healthy lifestyle consumers and athletes around the world.

AWÁ Nutrition’s plant-based smoothie-mixes come in two lines for personalized nutrition. The Lifestyle Active series is formulated for the everyday, healthy lifestyle consumer and is available in six Andean flavor mixes. The High Performance series of mixes are ideal for more serious athletes and are available in four Andean flavor mixes.

About AWÁ Nutrition

Based in Ecuador and with offices in Santa Monica, CA, the mission of AWÁ Nutrition is to promote an active lifestyle and encourage mindfulness of nutrition through unique and natural Andean plant-based nutritional products. We source from local, small-scale producers and cater to consumers who consciously seek out quality products with greater purpose. A direct percentage of sales of AWÁ Nutrition products go toward supporting social responsibility and nutrition and sports programs for disadvantaged communities in Ecuador. Olympic Hot Tub’s 6th Honoring Heroes Event Supports Ukraine

Don Riling, President of Olympic Hot Tub, had the great pleasure of presenting a check for $34,700 to Liliya Kovalenko from the Ukrainian Association of Washington State (UAWS). Olympic donated funds from the sale of every Hot Spring Spa, Freeflow Spa, Vita Swim Spa and Covana Automated Gazebo from our 6th Honoring Heroes Event held in April.

“Liliya is a true hero!” said Riling, “We feel blessed to have been able to support the very important work being done by her organization to help Ukrainians during the crisis in their war-torn country.”

Olympic Hot Tub’s donation will go toward the purchase of Newborn Intensive Care Units, so desperately needed in Ukraine.

During our campaign another idea arose: give the kids of Ukraine a little something, as most of them had to flee their homes and don’t have anything left, including any toys. This turned into Warm 106.9 FM’s Operation: Teddy Bear Lift.

Donations are being taken to buy as many teddy bears as possible to load onto the plane that will carry the medical equipment, supplies, and body armor. Donations can help provide a bit of comfort to displaced children in Ukraine through a new fluffy friend. To learn more visit: https://warm1069.com/operation-teddy-bear-lift/

From cultural events to supporting the Fund to Endow a Chair of Ukrainian Studies at U.W., their focus is to bring out what is the best in the Ukrainian community.

Today – their homeland is under attack. And UAWS has these top support priorities:

  • Deliver medical supplies to hospitals in Ukraine (in partnership with Medical Teams International and nonprofits in Oregon and California).
  • Provide civilian territorial defense units defending their neighborhoods with body armor
  • Support civilians in life-saving tactical medicine
  • Help internally displaced families and orphans
