The DRONE FUND III Investment Limited Partnership, managed by Kotaro Chiba and Soki Ohmae in Tokyo, Japan, invested in Robotic Skies based on its innovative and scalable business model.

The Robotic Skies business model builds on the direction of commercial drone policy and legislation in the United States, and other Civil Aviation Authorities worldwide, towards requirements for certified maintenance solutions that ensure safety and ongoing airworthiness of unmanned aircraft.

The company’s robust network of repair stations has also positioned Robotic Skies well to respond to the forecast volume of commercial drones and advanced air mobility aircraft that will require certified maintenance support.

Computer Science Teachers Association Adds CoderZ’s Professional Development Program to Curated List of Quality Resources

My experience with CoderZ professional development was very positive. It provided the familiarity I needed to gather valuable data about student performance and helped me to better support my students when they are challenged.

After a rigorous evaluation, the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) has added CoderZ to its online list of professional learning programs. The list enables K-12 computer science (CS) teachers to find quality professional development opportunities and associated curriculum that fit their needs and goals.

An independent committee of experts evaluated the CoderZ professional development programs using a detailed rubric aligned to quality indicators such as the following:

  • Inclusivity
  • Accessibility
  • Feedback and Reflection
  • Scale and Sustainability

The CoderZ professional development program introduces instructors to the concepts of teaching computer science and computational thinking using an online tool. Participants learn robotics and coding best practices as well as strategies to successfully leverage a graphic programming interface. In addition, the program hones the skills needed to reinforce student engagement, application, exploration and use of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

The professional development program is strongly aligned to CSTA programming standards and gives teachers opportunities to connect to Common Core Math, NGSS, and additional CSTA standards. Teachers receive a hands-on learning experience with guided practice. Afterward, they receive ongoing support through a facilitated Facebook community, weekly virtual office hours and email and phone support to process inquiries.

“We customize our professional development to meet educators’ needs,” said Ido Yerushalmi, CEO of CoderZ. “So, as participants learn how to develop and deliver STEM or CS instruction, our program can also help them integrate that new knowledge with their use of approaches such as differentiated and adaptive instruction.”

The CoderZ professional development program has received a lot of positive feedback from teachers who have taken it. One example is Todd Leff, a CS and technology teacher who has been teaching programming at Kingsview Middle School in Maryland. Another is Monica Maldonado, the director of technology for the Diocese of Corpus Christi in Texas.

“I signed up for the training because I wanted to know the ins and outs of CoderZ before I used it with my students,” said Leff. “My experience with CoderZ professional development was very positive. It provided the familiarity I needed to gather valuable data about student performance and helped me to better support my students when they are challenged.”

The schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi had already implemented computer science instruction prior to the CoderZ training. However, they were adding instruction through CoderZ to their STEM learning initiative. “The professional development was designed to provide training to our fourth and fifth grade teachers with small chunks of content and at a pace that would build teacher confidence over time and encourage successes,” said Maldonado.

Maldonado praised the supportive experience that the CoderZ’s professional development team had provided to the diocese’s schoolteachers. “We would definitely recommend CoderZ’s professional development to other teachers because they will adapt their learning approaches to fit your district or diocese to ensure a successful rollout,” she said.

This sensor module is based on the ON Semiconductor AR0239 CMOS imager capable of capturing up to 120dB/20EV of dynamic range at 1080p/30 full HD resolution. The sensor captures 3-exposures per frame that are then merged and tone mapped in the ISP, providing the ultimate HDR video optimized for AI enabled security and surveillance applications.

SigmaSense LLC, the global leader in touch screen performance, announces the world’s first gaming class performance interactive display table. An advantage in the three-billion player gaming space is highly valued among gamers. In a comparison of a popular game, 300Hz touch reporting enabled an accuracy rate of over 90 percent compared to a 60Hz touch report rate accuracy of only 51 percent. The typical 30 Hz or 60 Hz touch report rate barrier for large displays has now been broken ushering in new user experiences and substantial advantages for gamers. Interactive displays equipped with SigmaDrive touch controller technology provide high speed 300 Hz touch reporting.

Large optically superior indium tin oxide (ITO) sensors are higher resistance and difficult to drive at low voltages. When bonded to an OLED display the electrical noise poses additional challenges for reliable touch processing. SigmaDrive touch controller technology easily overcomes both of these challenges and still provides 300Hz touch reporting performance. A new era in the user experience characterized by low lag and smooth touch operation finally enables high speed table top gaming. In addition, liquids and objects on the screen does not affect the touch performance. Until now, touch technology has not supported these high-speed reports with ample electrical noise or contaminant tolerance on large screens.

SigmaSense’s® new gaming class performance in a tabletop display creates all new possibilities for game developers. Finally, game piece recognition, pucks, and pens can be used for more immersive games while high fidelity capacitive imaging enabled by much faster data acquisition will change the limits of the gaming experience. The availability of high speed, high fidelity touch data has opened the door for tabletop gaming from 20 inches up to 100-inch tables with support for “gang play,” whether the gang is there to compete or to play as a team.

The performance of SigmaSense’s gaming tabletop is a breakthrough for the industry. Touch controls will deliver an even faster response than what can be achieved with high-speed gaming mice, and contaminants like a spilled drink will not interfere with touch responses.

WaterField Unveils Two-in-One iPad Pro + MacBook Sleeve: the Slim, Protective Double-Take

To celebrate today’s Apple announcement, San-Francisco maker WaterField Designs introduces the slim and elegant Double-Take iPad and MacBook Sleeve to protect and transport both devices at once. Increasingly, people routinely carry either an iPad Pro and a MacBook or two laptops, one personal and one professional. The modular Double-Take Sleeve, with two padded compartments, a designated Apple Pencil slot, a simple accessory pocket, and the flexibility to transfer it from bag to bag or to carry it over one shoulder, affords dual-device users the agility they need to support their digital lifestyles.

The interior of the slim Double-Take consists of two sleeve compartments sewn together accordion-style from wool-blend fabric reminiscent of a handsome wool trench coat. The wool padding cushions the devices and holds them in place while adding beautiful texture and a pop of color. A custom-fitted Apple pencil pocket inside the front compartment keeps the stylus safe and easily accessible, and a rear, open-topped pocket stows a few papers or accessories.

Impact-absorbing foam surrounds the Double-Take Sleeve on the front, back, top, and bottom. Reinforced side seams and corners blunt force from every angle. Nearly-indestructible ballistic nylon, with water-resistant acrylic backing, envelopes the sleeve’s exterior, and a full-grain leather base creates a solid grip and adds further protection.

While the Double-Take stows an iPad and a MacBook with or without a Smart Case (or similarly thin cover), it functions equally well when carrying just one device plus necessities: the extra compartment can hold files, a notebook, or digital accessories. A metal G-hook fastens the sleeve’s padded, lined flap to a choice of nylon loops arranged like a ladder, so gear inside stays secure regardless of volume.
