InScribe, which delivers game-changing digital community solutions, today announced a partnership with the School of Professional & Continuing Education at James Madison University (JMU) to create interactive online spaces that increase student engagement within its adult degree completion program. JMU’s digital communities give their students a place to find help and resources, share insights and ideas, and connect with one another.

“At JMU, we believe that access to support and community should not be limited by proximity to campus. We strive to ensure every student – whether in person or online – feels as though they belong and has the opportunity to connect and collaborate,” said Dr. Melissa Lubin, Dean of the School of Professional & Continuing Education. “We are excited to work with InScribe to boost student engagement in new and meaningful ways. JMU students are each other’s biggest fans, and we know that the relationships they will form in these digital spaces will help fuel their success.”

Ranked a top 50 Best Online Learning School by Newsweek and Statistica, JMU sought a technology partner that shared its forward thinking approach. InScribe’s platform breaks free from overcrowded inboxes and static one-way communication, to create dynamic learning communities that increase engagement and promote student success. From advice about courses, to a listening ear, to career connections, InScribe’s digital communities give students a place to turn when they need a helping hand so no student ever learns alone.

JMU will be integrating InScribe into the school’s Canvas LMS, providing students with simple, straightforward access to a network of people for connection and support anytime, anywhere.

“We are excited to be a part of JMU’s mission to support pathways for degree completion for non-traditional learners so they can continue to progress in their careers,” said Katy Kappler, CEO of InScribe. “Digital communities not only facilitate connection and create a sense of belonging, they also give students another avenue to collaborate, a skill that JMU emphasizes and one that can strengthen a student’s workforce readiness and on-the-job performance.”

BeSmartee Enters the Commercial Market through An Acquisition of Financial Spreading Software Company FlashSpread

BeSmartee Acquires FlashSpread

“The FlashSpread team has created the absolute best docs-to-data system in the marketplace and we are excited to expand upon their strength to better the lending ecosystem.”

BeSmartee, award-winning fintech firm and founder of modern digital mortgage platforms for financial institutions, announced today that it has acquired FlashSpread, a financial analysis as a service company, specializing in instant tax spreading for commercial lenders and fintech companies. FlashSpread’s commercial lending technology is a natural complement to BeSmartee’s digital mortgage platforms, and will accelerate BeSmartee’s growth strategy under which the brand has prioritized increased automation.

As a proven innovator, BeSmartee takes a leading role in facilitating true end-to-end digital mortgages, helping more borrowers experience the power of home. With FlashSpread’s technology, BeSmartee will serve the commercial lending market with an efficient data digitization and aggregation engine, enabling lenders to make error-free, data-driven, credit decisions in flash.

Additionally, BeSmartee will leverage the FlashSpread technology for mortgages, converting docs to data, which will help streamline some of the company’s manual processes and improve automated decisioning.

FlashSpread’s services will remain completely uninterrupted, including access to integration and API’s. FlashSpread customers will continue to enjoy the user experience they have come to know and love. BeSmartee will continue to grow the FlashSpread application to go deeper into the commercial lending process, faster — adding resources to support a higher caliber of customer success.

With FlashSpread’s proprietary algorithms, lenders will introduce efficiencies across the commercial loan process from origination to servicing by converting scanned tax returns into customized financial reports, such as global debt service with a click of a button — “click, spread, done.”

Automation of manual processes are required at every step of the lending process — from origination to servicing. FlashSpread will remove the manual entry to help:

  • Reduce time
  • Eliminate errors
  • Increase efficiencies
  • Lift revenues
  • Control costs
  • Manage regulatory risks
  • Increase compliance

Building on its existing momentum, FlashSpread will continue to grow its document library to support financial statements, launch a no-code reporting module to instantly deploy custom reports and release an ongoing credit monitoring tool.

“We are excited to welcome FlashSpread and Ariel Trybuch to the BeSmartee Family,” said BeSmartee CEO and Co-founder Tim Nguyen. “This is an acquisition that not only brings new clients, technologies and talents to BeSmartee; but one that also sparks further innovation into all lending verticals, including mortgages, consumer and commercial. The FlashSpread team has created the absolute best docs-to-data system in the marketplace and we are excited to expand upon their strength to better the lending ecosystem.”

“Joining forces with BeSmartee will allow FlashSpread to better serve the digital lending community that it has built over the last five years,” said FlashSpread founder and General Manager Ariel Trybuch. “Our unified vision is to create a transparent, efficient, lending process that makes lender’s lives easier. This partnership will provide the resources necessary to support the hyper-growth FlashSpread is currently experiencing, as well as allow us to provide our customers with an even higher level of customer support, rapidly introduce new features and functionality and expand our ever-growing library of supported document types. Through this strategic acquisition, we can now apply the same level of automation to the mortgage space.”

FlashSpread is currently integrated with some of the largest LOS’s in the commercial lending space and helps more than 100 financial institutions automate many of their manual processes.

FlashSpread will continue to operate independently as a product under the BeSmartee umbrella, with the company’s founder and CEO Ariel Trybuch serving as General Manager. The operating entity will be renamed, “FlashSpread, a BeSmartee Company,” and will be led by BeSmartee CEO and Co-founder Tim Nguyen.

The transaction was finalized November 3, 2021. BeSmartee plans to continue its focus on M&A activity to fuel value creation, as well as long-term growth and expansion.

Apcela announces new AppHubs in Canada

Apcela has proven themselves to be an incredible Equinix Partner around the world. We could not be more excited to see the unique expertise, capabilities, and agility that Apcela offers expand to further serve our Canadian clientele, from coast to coast.

Apcela, a leading innovator in software-defined, cloud-optimized network services, is expanding the AppHub footprint into Canada to better serve the Northern America market. The proprietary AppHub, a virtual data center in the cloud, operates at the center of Apcela’s solution.

In addition to the existing AppHub in Toronto, Apcela now has locations in Montreal and Calgary. The new locations will serve Apcela’s already global footprint by providing additional routes and increased service capacity.

Apcela is not alone in increased attention in Canada. The leading Cloud Service Providers such as Google Cloud Provider (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Oracle OCI have been expanding into Canada as a part of a larger trend towards increased interest in the Northern American region. AWS in particular has plans to open an infrastructure region in Alberta, Canada in late 2023/early 2024. “Our infrastructure in Canada has allowed customers to transform the way businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies serve their stakeholders. With another AWS Region in Canada, customers will see even lower latency for emerging solutions like 5G-enabled applications and machine learning at the edge, and it will strengthen their ability to architect their regional infrastructure for even greater fault tolerance, resiliency, and availability,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS. (1)

Equinix has also expanded into Canada – by acquiring 13 Bell Data Centers in Canada. “The deal solidifies Equinix’s position as a leading digital infrastructure provider in Canada, enabling Canadian businesses, as well as multinationals with a presence in Canada, to leverage a trusted platform to bring together and interconnect the foundational infrastructure to power their success.” (2) As a result, Apcela has strengthened its partnership with Equinix in order to serve joint use cases for Canadian customers.

Chad Arnold, Equinix’s Senior Director of Sales in Canada, shares that “Apcela has proven themselves to be an incredible Equinix Partner around the world. We could not be more excited to see the unique expertise, capabilities, and agility that Apcela offers expand to further serve our Canadian clientele, from coast to coast. Our partnership with Apcela allows customers to get back to focusing on their core business by taking on the management of the complex networking and security required to achieve their digital transformation goals -on time & on budget.”

Why Canada? Canada is the third largest economy in the Americas, and the 10th largest in the world. Jason Bremner, Research Vice President, IDC, says “It is home to a thriving aggregation of multinational corporations that are seeking a clear and rapid migration path to digital transformation. We expect to see Canadian spending on digital transformation [increase] as companies look to accelerate their digital initiatives.” (2)

“Expanding our global footprint will allow us to further assist enterprise customers in expanding their scope of the cloud optimized, distributed network and security deployments” says Apcela CEO Mark Casey. “By investing in additional AppHubs in Montreal and Calgary, we can assist our existing Toronto connections by providing additional routes.”

Apcela’s 60+ AppHubs globally provide a complete application delivery stack in the cloud and are located at carrier neutral cloud exchanges around the world. Starting with core switching, routing, and load balancing, Apcela can customize AppHubs to meet enterprise needs. This includes layering in SD-WAN, lifting and shifting a security solution to the cloud; and enabling edge compute and storage with a hyper-converged, private cloud. With the benefit of customers being in the same exchanges as major SaaS and IaaS services without establishing individual physical connections, the AppHub does the heavy lifting.

Casey continues, “The AppHub serves as the entry and exit ramp for Apcela’s low-latency, global backbone, helping transform the enterprise WAN from a centralized and siloed IT architecture to a next-generation, cloud optimized network.”

Apcela AppHubs work with the Arcus Platform to deliver a software-defined, cloud optimized network, including SASE and Multicloud. This allows the network to truly extend to the edge – rather than deployed natively in public cloud, which can be repetitive and cost-prohibitive.

Hypersonics Advanced Manufacturing Test Capability (HAMTC) Awarded to Fiber Materials, Inc. and Purdue Applied Research, Inc.

S²MARTS has announced that Hypersonics Advanced Manufacturing Test Capability Test (HAMTC) has been awarded to Fiber Materials, Inc. and Purdue Applied Research, Inc.

With modern hypersonic weapons capable of traveling over five times the speed of sound, technology has never moved faster than it does today. As U.S. adversaries are developing multiple hypersonic weapons that are reaching Mach 10 speeds, deterring those weapons is difficult as response time for defense is limited. To assure the national security of the United States, the Department of the Defense (DoD) is prioritizing the development of hypersonic weapon systems.

OSD Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program partnering with NSWC Crane and S²MARTS are addressing these critical capabilities through advanced manufacturing of hypersonic technologies. In June 2021, the Hypersonics Advances Manufacturing Test Capability (HAMTC) opportunity was created to directly address the hypersonic weapons development gaps.

Hypersonic vehicles are complex weapons to manufacture. Their mission requirements dictate they must endure extreme environments, sustain under immense heat, be durable through descension of the atmosphere and must also be lightweight and agile for maneuverability.

Through the HAMTC award, Fiber Materials, Inc. and Purdue Applied Research, Inc. are overcoming critical hypersonic weapons manufacturing challenges by developing a prototype that refines advanced materials manufacturing proof-of-concept for hypersonic vehicle applications for vertical supply chain integration. This will include the utilization of digital engineering tools and advanced Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes that will be implemented by OSD ManTech.

“The OSD ManTech office is excited to see advanced manufacturing investments to complement hypersonic systems development,” stated Keith DeVries, Program Manager, Manufacturing Science & Technology Program, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. “We are glad to be partnering with NSWC Crane, S²MARTS, Fiber Materials, Inc. and Purdue Applied Research, Inc. to bring advanced manufacturing principles and practices to meet this challenging mission.”

The OSD Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) program focuses on cross-cutting defense manufacturing needs to advance capabilities that ensure warfighter technical dominance. Upon completion of HAMTC, Fiber Materials, Inc. and Purdue Applied Research, Inc., with support from OSD ManTech, will greatly reduce time and cost in the development of essential hypersonic weapons and also deliver enhanced Advanced Manufacturing capabilities to the DoD for future mission requirements.

About S²MARTS

TRX Systems Selected by the U.S. Army to Deliver Dismounted Assured PNT System (DAPS)

TRX DAPS Dismounted A-PNT Device

TRX Systems, developer of NEON® GPS-denied location solutions, has been selected by the U.S. Army to provide a next-generation Dismounted Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) System (DAPS). The TRX DAPS solution employs a lightweight soldier-worn device that enables dismounted warfighters to successfully conduct operations when operating in GPS challenged, degraded, or denied environments.

Military equipment can be the subject of enemy electronic attacks, potentially resulting in a loss of location awareness that can put Army missions at increased risk. The TRX DAPS solution alerts the user when their position isn’t reliable and then leverages multiple sensors and timing sources to provide the best soldier position possible within the GPS degraded operational environment. The solution is designed to replace the Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR) with support for both a standalone configuration and integration with the Nett Warrior ensemble.

The TRX DAPS solution leverages the company’s proven experience in delivering GPS-denied location technology to thousands of military, public safety, and security users worldwide. The solution combines inputs from small, body-worn sensors and other sources to provide assured PNT while meeting the challenging Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) needs of dismounted soldiers already physically burdened with heavy equipment loads.

“Maintaining assured PNT is paramount to the situational awareness of U.S. warfighters in the many conflict zones around the world,” said Carol Politi, President and CEO of TRX Systems. “When initial units are fielded in mid-2022, the TRX DAPS solution will deliver a balance of the highest possible level of integrated PNT capabilities with the smallest package that can be fielded for dismounted warfighters.”

About TRX Systems

TRX Systems is the developer of NEON GPS-denied location solutions, delivering location, mapping, and proximity solutions where GPS is not available or is unreliable including indoors, underground, in dense urban areas, and where GPS is jammed or erroneous. NEON delivers ubiquitous, low-cost, GPS-denied location through use of advanced sensor fusion, ranging, and patented dynamic mapping algorithms. NEON location technology provides the foundation for several commercial applications, including NEON Personnel Tracker and NEON Signal Mapper.
