HMP Global’s industry-leading ‘WOUNDS’ journal’s digital transition allows for more timely publication of research

[ad_1]

Indexed in MEDLINE/PubMED, WOUNDS is the most widely read, peer-reviewed journal focusing on wound care and research.

Beginning with its July issue, HMP Global’s industry-leading WOUNDS journal is transitioning from print to an online-only, continuous publication model. The shift will allow for the more timely publication of accepted manuscripts thus making research widely available much sooner after acceptance.

Indexed in MEDLINE/PubMED, WOUNDS is the most widely read, peer-reviewed journal focusing on wound care and research. It will continue to publish 12 online issues per year, with articles added to the online issue each month as soon as they are ready for publication. The transition to digital will provide a significant decrease in the time from acceptance to publication, also allowing for faster indexing.

As part of the transition to digital, the WOUNDS website will also introduce a new feature, “Author Insights,” where readers will be able to access videos discussing the articles published in each issue. This new section will highlight researchers, provide deeper insights, and encourage more interaction with the content published in WOUNDS.

“The move from print to digital has many benefits for researchers as well as the greater wound care community,” said Dr. John C. Lantis II, Editor-in-Chief. “Through the continuous publication model, we can shorten the typical time between acceptance and publication by removing the need for printing and without sacrificing quality. We are also giving authors more immediate opportunities for citation and metrics.”

He said the transition provides greater reach, with articles more readily available to a global audience. Also, since online publications are preferred by academic libraries, the move to digital secures academic library access. This platform potentially allows for greater worldwide reach, as well as the allowing for a more malleable reading format, and is better for the environment than a printed magazine.

Though regular print issues of WOUNDS will cease after the June issue, two print compilations of WOUNDS articles will be available in 2023: before and after the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall meeting, to be held November 2-5 in Las Vegas.

WOUNDS equips practitioners with the latest updates to help address traumatic wounds, surgical or non-skin wounds, burn injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, and a myriad of chronic wound conditions affecting their patients. Information disseminated to WOUNDS readers includes research on tissue repair and regeneration, biology and biochemistry of wound healing, and the clinical management of various wound etiologies.

The journal’s multidisciplinary readership consists of dermatologists, general surgeons, plastic surgeons, vascular surgeons, internal medicine and family practitioners, podiatrists, gerontologists, researchers in industry or academia, orthopedic surgeons, infectious disease physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. WOUNDS is part of HMP Global’s Wound Care Learning Network, which features the publications Wound Management & Prevention, Today’s Wound Clinic, and WoundSource, as well as WoundCon, Great Debates & Updates in Diabetic Foot, and SAWC Spring and Fall meetings.

International Pharmaceutical Company Chooses Kansas City for North American Headquarters

[ad_1]

Felixvet, an upcoming manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals in the companion animal industry, has selected Kansas City for its North American headquarters.

“Here in Kansas City, Felix will enjoy proximity to many of their industry clients who call the KC Animal Health Corridor home, as well as abundant access to distribution resources and a robust animal health industry network,” said Kimberly Young, president of the KC Animal Health Corridor.

The KC Animal Health Corridor is pleased to announce that Felixvet, an upcoming manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals in the companion animal industry, selected Briarcliff, a northern suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, for its North American headquarters.

The company, based out of Ireland, decided to establish its presence in the KC region due to the strategic advantages of being situated within the Animal Health Corridor, the world’s largest concentration of animal health companies. The new office will serve as the center to support commercial and regulatory operations throughout the United States and Canada.

“We are confident that Felixvet is poised to become one of the leading companion animal generic drug companies globally,” said Vince Palasota, president of North America at Felix. “With our extensive pipeline, quick response capabilities and deep understanding of ANADA and brand competition strategies, we believe the veterinarian and marketing partners will recognize the significant value-added benefits we bring to the table.”

Neeraj Agrawal, CEO of Felix, stated, “We recently obtained FDA approval for India’s first oral solid dose facility dedicated to animal health pharmaceuticals and are nearing completion of our sterile fill injectable plant. Currently, Felixvet has been granted nine approvals for the United States market, with three additional products anticipated for approval by the end of 2023. These advancements give us a distinct competitive advantage in the animal health sector as we introduce our portfolio of products to the market.”

The KC region is located in the heart of the Animal Health Corridor, encompassing 56% of global animal health, diagnostics and pet food sales. Representing more than 300 animal health companies in the region, the KC Animal Health Corridor— an affiliate of the Kansas City Area Development Council — offers an unparalleled ecosystem for growth and collaboration.

“We are proud to welcome Felixvet, a business committed to advancing animal health through high-quality pharmaceuticals, to the Kansas City region,” said Kimberly Young, president of the KC Animal Health Corridor. “Here, Felix will enjoy proximity to many of their industry clients who call the KC Animal Health Corridor home, as well as abundant access to distribution resources and a robust animal health industry network.”

About Felixvet:

Founded in 2015 by Dr. Shumeet Banerji, Jon Symonds and Neeraj Agrawal, Felix is in the business of developing bio-equivalent generic pharmaceutical products for companion animals upon patent expiry. Felix aims to be the first truly global generic companion animal pharmaceutical player focusing on the top 10 veterinary markets of the world. It aims to make bio-equivalent generics available at affordable prices from cGMP-compliant manufacturing plants.

Peace Education Program at Rehabilitation Centers in South Africa & Globally

[ad_1]

Orlando Towers’ Artwork: a symbol of rehabilitation in Soweto, South Africa

“I’ve had a lot of questions that I would love to learn, like know from life, and I couldn’t just ask anyone. So, when it was introduced to me, it was like a dream come true,” says Isla, Peace Education Program participant at Epilweni Rehabilitation Center.

From Substance Abuse to Self-Respect

For Isla, who is recovering from alcohol and drug abuse, the Peace Education Program offered by The Prem Rawat Foundation is, “Like a dream come true.”

Around the world in 54 different rehabilitation facilities, this powerful program is changing lives. Over 7,100 participants in these settings have experienced its effects.

Many of these individuals say the Peace Education Program enables them to discover their inner-strength, have self-respect, feel empathy and accept responsibility. They learn to see themselves and life in a whole new light.

Amazed by the change in himself, Benin, a participant in the Peace Education Program at the TAG Center in Johannesburg, South Africa, felt moved to help facilitate the program for others. Mental Health professionals agree that the success of any rehabilitation is based on the results. That this program is changing lives and also inspiring a passion to help others do the same, are surely heart-warming results.

Program participants from Zonderwater, a mammoth, maximum security prison in South Africa may not realize it, but their remarkable experiences are inspiring others too. Dezrita, a client of the TAG Rehabilitation Center beams as he identifies the “Zonderwater” video in the program as especially relatable and impactful. In the video, both participants and facilitators share their powerful experiences with the program.

“This programme has enlightened and empowered a lot of offenders to have peace within them and it also taught them to forgive other people. Some of them before the inception of the programme were always having conflict and anger within. After they attended the programme, they started to have peace,” says Head of Zonderwater Correctional Facility, Tivane Makasain, in an official letter to The Prem Rawat Foundation

One important part of this successful workshop series that is helping people rehabilitate from substance and alcohol use disorder is the integration of the self-reflection component. This enables change to come from within and helps those who are shy, cynical or guarded to be self-guided towards seeing themselves in a whole new light.

“I’ve had a lot of questions that I would love to learn, like know from life, and I couldn’t just ask anyone. So, when it was introduced to me, it was like a dream come true,” says Isla, Peace Education Program participant at Epilweni Rehabilitation Center in Johannesburg.

“To see a shift in a young person’s mind, from them not knowing who they are and to them finally discovering themselves and their innate tools, and being able to face and look at life in a different light has been one of the greatest things about facilitating,” says Tumi Mahasha, facilitator, TAG and Epilweni Rehabilitation Centers.

As more clients and facilitators around the world experience success incorporating this program into alcohol and drug treatment efforts, they reach out to others to bring hope and change.

In Pennsylvania, U.S., the James A. Casey House, like many substance and drug abuse treatment centers, uses methodology based on the TAP 19 manual developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

However, James Casey, director of the treatment center emphasizes the success of the Peace Education Program as a complementary resource and explains that its effectiveness is spreading. “Those from the local A.A. and N.A. are now coming to us because they’ve heard so many amazing reports about the program,” says Casey.

Moreover, Casey says that his team is blown away year after year by the effects of the program.

“It is the most significant tool that we have to give people who’ve lost their hope. I’m watching it and seeing it every day… We are seeing a success rate of well above 60% — and that’s incredible, says Casey.

While the U.S. has one of the highest incarceration rates on the planet, the world-wide crisis of drug and substance abuse is a universal, human problem. The Peace Education Program’s success is in addressing the human being, rather than just “the addict.”

The Peace Education Program is an innovative series of video-based workshops that help people discover their own inner strength and personal peace. With over 325,000 participants and counting, The Prem Rawat Foundation provides access to the course materials to organizations and volunteers free of charge. The Peace Education Program is readily available to diverse populations in more than 80 countries and in 40 languages.

University of Medicine and Health Sciences Celebrates Graduating Class of 2023

[ad_1]

UMHS celebrated the Class of 2023 with a graduation ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York.

“Hard work, motivation, determination, and sacrifice … are the values by which you have lived and are the same values that will sustain you in your profession. Your hard work and dedication have finally paid off and you’ve achieved your dream of becoming a physician.”

The University of Medicine and Health Sciences, (UMHS), a small, mission-driven medical school with a commitment to student support and a legacy of successful residency placements, celebrated the graduating Class of 2023 on June 16 at Lincoln Center. The ceremony recognized 165 graduates as they received their Doctor of Medicine degrees and prepared to begin their residency training at leading programs in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The event was recorded and can be accessed by visiting the UMHS YouTube Live Events and Meetings page.

UMHS President Warren Ross noted that this graduating class faced the unique challenge of persevering through unprecedented challenges as the pandemic shifted their medical training to an online format. Students then assimilated to a hybrid model before returning to “boots on the ground” instruction and training.

“I know it hasn’t been easy, but in the face of adversity, in the toughest of conditions, you have prevailed,” said President Ross. “Hard work, motivation, determination, and sacrifice – these were not mere words for you. These are the values by which you have lived and are the same values that will sustain you in your profession. Your hard work and dedication have finally paid off and you’ve achieved your dream of becoming a physician.”

The graduation also featured a keynote address from Dr. Jeet Pillay, MD, Chief of Medicine at DMC Huron Valley Sinai, one of the largest training facilities in the world with 1,100 residents and fellows. Dr. Pillay emphasized that the challenges of the next phase of training as residents will also test the physicians’ ability to improvise, adapt and endure.

“Here you are at this exciting juncture with a well-deserved sense of accomplishment,” said Dr. Pillay. “I wish I could tell you it gets easier from here, but your next stage is much harder. You will make mistakes, but you will learn from them and you won’t be alone. So don’t be afraid of this next stage. Embrace it with confidence and curiosity. Add all this up and you have a competitive advantage.”

Following Dr. Pillay’s keynote address, the UMHS graduation ceremony featured the conferral of degrees, the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath, and special recognition of students graduating with honors. For the first time in the school’s history, President Ross announced two Valedictorians: Dr. Jonathan Coto Davila and Dr. Zachary Vandeveer.

The UMHS Class of 2023 achieved many significant “firsts.” This year, UMHS celebrated the most successful residency match in the school’s history, with graduates securing residencies in 11 medical specialties across 24 states and territories, including multiple matches in California, Texas, Michigan, and Puerto Rico, and the school’s first matches in Oregon and New Hampshire. Two UMHS graduates also matched directly into residencies in Canada through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).

Planet Gymnastics raises funds to support the Dana Farber Cancer Institute

Each year, Planet Gymnastics of Natick holds a Cartwheel-a-thon fundraiser to raise money for a local charity. This year, our charity of choice was the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides expert, compassionate, and equitable care to children, adults and their families, while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of cancer and related diseases.

The participants at Planet Gymnastics gathered donations in two ways, pledging a dollar amount per cartwheel completed within 1 minute or a flat rate donation. Each participating gymnast who got “dizzy for donations” received a certificate for their contribution and efforts.

We are proud to announce that we raised a grand total of $19307.79 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute! A special shout out goes to Noel Drummy, our top fundraiser, who raised an amazing $858. Thank you to all of our athletes, staff, friends and families who supported this year’s Carthwheel-a-thon and supported this meaningful fundraising mission.
