Starboard Medical Launches Clik-FIX™ Neonatal PICC Catheter Securement at AVA 2019

Hub related pressure ulcer injury is a recurrent problem in neonatal patients, we are so glad our design helps reduce that risk

Starboard Medical Inc., a manufacturer of advanced, clinically differentiated IV catheter securement products for the acute-care and home-infusion markets, today announced its participation in the annual scientific meeting of the Association for Vascular Access (AVA) at the Cesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada from October 4 – 6, 2019. Starboard Medical will unveil a new entry in its catheter securement product portfolio at the event.

AVA was founded by healthcare professionals to meet the specific needs of the vascular access specialty. The organization’s multidisciplinary membership advances scientific research, clinical best practices, professional education, and solution development to further patient outcomes. The 2019 AVA Conference, the association’s 33rd annual meeting, is the premier event within the vascular access discipline, offering the benefits of educational sessions, clinical training, and new product demonstrations.

More than 1,500 nurses, clinicians, and solution providers specializing in vascular access and infusion therapy are expected to attend AVA 2019. Over 100 research abstracts will highlight new scientific findings and clinical experience in the field of vascular access. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with colleagues throughout the event. And, the Exhibit Hall will feature more than 65 qualified companies offering face-to-face meetings with product development and customer account teams, allowing all parties to gain insight through hands-on interaction, feedback, and discussion.

Exhibit Hall hours are 5:30 pm-7:30 pm on Friday, October 4th, 11:15 am – 2:15 pm Saturday, October 5th, and 11:15 am – 2:00 pm Sunday, October 6th. Starboard Medical’s line of engineered stabilization devices, Clik-FIX™, will be showcased at the event in Exhibit Hall Booth #618. The company will introduce its newest development the Clik-FIX Neonatal PICC Securement Device. Like all Starboard’s securement products, the Neonatal PICC Securement Device was designed with patient care in mind. Securing a Neonatal PICC is difficult as the surface area for securement is miniaturized due to patient size and materials chosen must accommodate the patient’s delicate skin. Our new Neonatal PICC Securement device helps reduce the risk of catheter hub related pressure ulcers, catheter movement and dislodgement, and infection while being soft and comfortable for the smallest of patients. “Hub related pressure ulcer injury is a recurrent problem in neonatal patients, we are so glad our design helps reduce that risk,” stated Kerry Edgar, President of Starboard Medical Inc.

About Starboard Medical, Inc.

Why Drivers Should Carefully Analyze The Car Insurance Contract Before Signing It

News Image

“It is recommended to read every phrase of the car insurance contract before signing it. You should know exactly for what you are insured”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Autoinsurancequotesave.com has released a new blog post that informs the clients why they should pay attention to the car insurance contract before sealing the deal

For more info and free car insurance quotes online, visit https://www.autoinsurancequotesave.com/why-should-you-carefully-read-the-car-insurance-contract/

Car insurance is required in order to legally drive across the United States. After buying the minimum required by each state (except New Hampshire), drivers can add extra coverage. However, do not be hasty and sign the contract before carefully reading it. Even if this may look complicated and time-consuming, it will prevent unpleasant surprises. Drivers who want to get really advantageous deals should use the free quotes provided by http://www.autoinsurancequotesave.com.

  • Pay attention to the “Declarations” section of the contract. This section can cover one or more pages and it is one of the most important parts of the contract. Here the driver will find listed the item or items that are covered by the contract. This section also provides details about the expiration date and coverage limits.

  • The Named Insured is the section where the policyholder will have to write his address, phone number, email address and other related details. Furthermore, there is a section dedicated to the insured vehicle or vehicles, where multiple details must also be added. This is where car owners can add one or more additional drivers.
  • Carefully look for coverage exclusions. They specify what events will not be covered under the current policy. For example, collision coverage will not cover the insured if the car is vandalized or stolen. Using a personal car for commercial purposes is also a common exclusion.

Autoinsurancequotesave.com is an online provider of life, home, health, and auto insurance quotes. This website is unique because it does not simply stick to one kind of insurance provider, but brings the clients the best deals from many different online insurance carriers. In this way, clients have access to offers from multiple carriers all in one place: this website. On this site, customers have access to quotes for insurance plans from various agencies, such as local or nationwide agencies, brand names insurance companies, etc.

Foundations in Learning Names Mark Mitrovich CEO

Mark Mitrovich, CEO of Foundations in Learning

Mark Mitrovich has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Foundations in Learning

We are thrilled to welcome Mark Mitrovich to Foundations in Learning. His impressive commitment to education and innovation, proven over the course of a long career in numerous high-profile roles, is clear evidence of his perfect fit as our CEO.

Foundations in Learning, creator of the Foundations Learning System™, today announced that Mark Mitrovich has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. Mitrovich joins the company at an exciting time, following the September launch of the Foundations Learning System. The integrated system includes a screener, diagnostic and intervention solution designed to make visible the needs of underserved students in second grade through high school who struggle with reading comprehension and fluency due to poor word recognition skills.

“I am honored to join Foundations in Learning and embrace the opportunity to work closely alongside the company’s co-founders, Dr. Carolyn Brown and Dr. Jerry Zimmermann, to expand awareness and implementation of their timely and innovative solution to address a critical issue in reading failure—one of the most perplexing and persistent problems facing education in this country,” said Mitrovich. “Based on years of research and development in collaboration with scientists at the University of Iowa and school districts, the Foundations System leverages a powerful learning framework from cognitive science and gives school systems a proven way to identify, diagnose and remediate struggling readers who have been left behind despite years of well-meaning interventions. I firmly believe this is not just a reading solution, but a framework to support learning outcomes that truly transform the lives of at-risk students.”

Most recently, Mitrovich was CEO for Global Learning and Leadership (GL2), a not-for-profit consultancy he founded, dedicated to building capacity within school districts and communities to increase student achievement and success. In addition, he brings to Foundations in Learning 35 years of experience as an educator and district leader, including superintendent positions in Gig Harbor, Wash., and Naperville, Ill. Mitrovich was also Chief Academic Officer for the School Services Division of Pearson North America and has consulted for districts across the United States, as well as for state and federal agencies, superintendents’ associations, Apple, Microsoft, the New York City Board of Education, and the Ministries of Education in New Zealand and Victoria, Australia.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mark Mitrovich to Foundations in Learning. His impressive commitment to education and innovation, proven over the course of a long career in numerous high-profile roles, is clear evidence of his perfect fit as our CEO,” said Dr. Carolyn Brown, President and co-founder of Foundations in Learning. “Mark has demonstrated his willingness to tackle a variety of challenges in pursuit of equal access to educational and economic opportunities for all children. We are confident that this same thoughtful and passionate approach will significantly advance our efforts to improve educational equity through literacy.”

One of Mitrovich’s first initiatives in his new role is to ensure that education leaders and stakeholders nationwide have access to an effective solution, in the form of the Foundations Learning System, to help struggling readers reach proficiency. The Foundations System is an innovative solution that applies the learning framework known as the “Varied Practice Model,” which is proven to enhance automatic skill development in many other domains—including sports, music, language and math—to the development of automatic word recognition skills, an essential precursor of fluency and reading comprehension. Using the system, educators can quickly identify and help students whose academic progress has stagnated due to a lack of foundational reading skills, including persistently struggling readers, students with special needs and English language learners.

Mitrovich is also eager to introduce the education community to the depth of research behind Foundations in Learning’s solutions. Dr. Brown and Dr. Zimmermann have spent more than 30 years studying the needs of struggling readers, and the Foundations Learning System is built on 10 years of research and product development. For the development of the screener and diagnostic, they collaborated with Dr. Bob McMurray, Dr. Eliot Hazeltine, Dr. Deborah Read and Dr. Keith Apfelbaum, who are cognitive scientists and/or reading researchers from the University of Iowa. Support was provided by the SBIR program at the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences under contract ED-IES-15-C-0023. Additionally, through a series of National Science Foundation awards, Professors McMurray and Hazeltine have demonstrated that the principles underlying expert skill learning are applicable to learning to read.

For more information on bringing the Foundations Learning System to a school or district, call 888-701-3009 ext. 100 or contact Foundations in Learning by email at info@foundations-learning.com.

TiE Florida Angel Network (TiEFAN) and Seedfunders partner to increase early stage deal flow in the Southeast

Seedfunders, a St. Petersburg-based investment group specializing in pre-revenue technology concepts, announces its partnership with TiE Florida Angels Network.

TiEFAN will refer companies seeking less than $1M to Seedfunders. Those startups that successfully complete Seedfunders’ five-stage vetting process receive lead investment from Seedfunders’ recently announced Catalyst Fund. Investment is also opened up to Seedfunders partners, to TiEFAN and individual TiE members.

“TiEFAN’s investment criteria does not allow it to lead investments in companies that are pre-revenue or companies that are seeking less than $1 million in capital,” said Suhas Apte, president of TiE Tampa Bay.

“We have a lot of entrepreneurs who are at an early stage, raising money from friends and family, but once they get to the next round, there’s been no one to invest in them,” Apte said.

Providing investment capital to pre-revenue companies who typically struggle to secure Angel funding could help them grow to the size where they can meet TiEFAN’s criteria.

“We look forward to growing companies that we can pass back to TiEFAN in later stages,” Joe Hamilton, Catalyst Fund Director, said.

The partnership broadens the geographic reach of Seedfunders, and its Catalyst Fund, to TiE’s four metro area chapters: Tampa-St. Pete, Miami, Atlanta and Charlotte.

“The partnership is an economic development tool that will boost entrepreneurship while expanding Seedfunders’ investment opportunities, and give TiE members new ways to back young companies,” said Irv Cohen, Seedfunders co-founder and partner.

“It drastically expands the pipeline of opportunity to Seedfunders to help us bring the best opportunities to our investors,” Cohen said. “It’s part of the long-term goal to develop the entrepreneurial model in our region.”

About Seedfunders

Seedfunders provides funding and mentoring for pre-revenue technology concepts, with guidance on bringing ideas to market, and maximizing success. Seedfunders also recently launched a new funding organization to back young companies in Orlando.

About TiEFAN

TiEFAN is an investment group made up of some of the members of TiE Tampa Bay — a nonprofit organization that encourages entrepreneurship, one of 60 chapters in 17 countries of Silicon Valley-based The IndUS Entrepreneurs.

Florida Keys hospital breaks ground, NELSON Worldwide implements resilient design concept

Aerial rendering of Fishermen's Community Hospital exterior

Fishermen’s Community Hospital Exterior

Fishermen’s Community Hospital had been serving its island community in Marathon, a small city in the middle of the Florida Keys, since 1962. A critical access hospital, it provided essential primary and emergency care for a small population whose only other option was 42 miles away via a single inter-island highway. In September 2017, Category 5 Hurricane Irma swept through the Keys, devastating the islands and sealing the hospital’s fate. Baptist Health South Florida (BHSF) would close the irreparably damaged facility, set up a temporary field hospital in its place, and enlist its longtime design partner in Miami, NELSON, to help resurrect this important community resource.

Due to reopen in winter 2020, the full replacement hospital will materialize from the passionate commitment and collaboration of the Marathon community, local government, BHSF and NELSON’s team of healthcare experts. The new facility will provide emergency services, diagnostic and imaging, surgical, critical care, lab, pharmacy, and outpatient services in line with the local population’s needs.

But the new Fishermen’s Community Hospital will have to be ready for more than just patients. As global climate conditions continue to evolve, and the Florida Keys remain in the path of hurricane events, NELSON’s architectural team is implementing a resilient design concept tailored to the hospital’s unique geographic risks, including:

  • A building envelope and hospital infrastructure designed to withstand Category 5 hurricane wind events
  • Building flood resistant to three feet above the 100-year flood plain to be prepared for flooding conditions, exceeding FEMA criteria
  • Reuse of the existing hospital’s demolition debris to support the foundation and divert additional waste from landfills
  • A structure composed of concrete tilt-up panels for the building envelope and incorporating regional standard building components to minimize time and manpower on site, accommodating a reduced workforce that resulted from residents leaving post-Irma

As construction begins, the new Fishermen’s Community Hospital promises to return to the Middle Keys stronger than ever, providing a vital asset to local residents with a new level of preparedness for the future.

Enrollment is Open for the New SMART TD Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP)

SMART TD Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP)

This new Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP) was designed to work well with the benefits that SMART TD members already have available to them.”

Since May 2019, SMART TD members have had a new disability benefit available to them. Enrollment for the new Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP) which began in May, ends November 30, 2019. Members can apply for coverage if they are a dues paying member of SMART TD living in the United States and working at least 20 hours per week.

Previously, SMART TD members had Long-Term Disability Insurance available to them through MetLife, but the MetLife Plan ended April 1, 2019. The new plan is underwritten by Amalgamated Life Insurance Company. Members who were enrolled in the previous MetLife plan are guaranteed approved for a monthly benefit of up to $1,000 per month (2 or 5 years duration).

“Applying for the new Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP) is easy, because Amalgamated Life Insurance Company uses simplified medical underwriting,” stated Carl Galdine, the VDP Enrollment Director. “With simplified underwriting, there is no medical exam, only a few medical questions on the application.”

Enrollment packets including a letter, a summary of benefits, and information on how to enroll were mailed to SMART TD members in May and June. Members can enroll online by visiting http://www.smart-vltd.com or by calling the SMART TD VDP Enrollment Center at 224-770-5328 and speaking with a benefit specialist.

Below are highlights of the new Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP):

  • Members can choose between a 2 or 5 year option
  • Members can enroll in a monthly benefit ranging from $300 to $5,000 ($100 benefit increments) (monthly benefit may not exceed 60% of gross earnings)
  • Previous MetLife participants are guaranteed approved for a monthly benefit of up to $1,000
  • Benefit does not offset and pays in addition to all other benefits
  • Benefit starts paying after 180 days (6 months)
  • Pre-existing conditions are covered after 12 months on the plan
  • Benefit covers members on and off the job (24-hour coverage)
  • Benefit is not subject to repayment upon receipt of a FELA or personal injury settlement
  • Members can retain coverage even if they are furloughed or suspended (portable)

“This new Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP) was designed to work well with the benefits that SMART TD members already have available to them,” explained Carl Galdine. “It stacks on top of all other benefits including the Voluntary Short-Term Disability Plan and RRB benefits. Also, this plan starts after a 6-month waiting period when RRB Sickness Benefits typically end.”

Open Enrollment ends November 30, 2019. For more information or to enroll visit http://www.smart-vltd.com or call the SMART TD VDP Enrollment Center at 224-770-5328.
