People are required to carry several devices in order to complete their jobs and it has become a burden. We want to minimize this burden.

KOAMTAC®, Inc., a leading manufacturer of Bluetooth companion barcode scanners, barcode and RFID Sleds, mPOS solutions, and smartphone/tablet charging solutions has announced a 20pin OtterBox® uniVERSE Adaptor for their SmartSleds and Charging Cases.

The 20pin OUA connects directly to a phone or tablet using a magnetic connector for power and data transfer. The adaptor was created for use with the OtterBox® uniVERSE Case System® series of cases for Samsung Galaxy® devices.

The 20pin feature allows for faster data transfer. KOAMTAC is already supporting DeX using this adaptor and is ready to support Android Desktop. Both DeX and Android Desktop allow the device to cast a PC-like experience to a big screen with the same apps a user already uses on their phone.

“People are required to carry several devices in order to complete their jobs and it has become a burden,” said Dr. Hanjin Lee, CEO of KOAMTAC. “We want to minimize this burden by empowering the phones they’re already carrying with the ability to read barcodes, scan RFID tags, take payment, and even display a presentation or video. This adaptor is the key to that functionality. When combined with OtterBox uniVERSE’s easily swappable feature and Samsung’s DeX feature, a business user is limitless.”

The 20pin OUA allows a user to connect a KOAMTAC KDC470/475 Barcode SmartSled, HF or UHF RFID reader, and mPOS directly to the device using OtterBox uniVERSE case as well as DeX adaptor or cradle. For users without a need or desire to collect data, the 20pin OUA add the ability to charge their device via a KOAMTAC Charging Cradle or any wireless charger. The 20pin OUA also allows for the addition of KOAMTAC’s 2000mAh Extended Battery for a power boost.

The 20pin OUA is ideal for enterprise businesses with a need for cross-functionality of their mobile devices and retails for $79.00. It is best purchased directly through KOAMTAC sales who can be contacted at sales@koamtac.com.

Digital Disruption in Healthcare – Six Ways to Engage Patients for Better Consumer and Provider Outcomes: A Healthcare Industry Analysis by Loyale Healthcare, LLC

https://www.prweb.com/

Patient preferences are driving unprecedented disruption in the U.S. healthcare industry, so providers must adapt to stay relevant

Transparency is certainly part of the picture. But game-winning patient experiences call for a much bigger strategy. One that empowers healthcare providers and their teams to predictably and systematically deliver financial and administrative experiences that are on par with their clinical care.

In some ways, the American healthcare industry looks a lot like the retail industry that many of us remember from the 1990s and earlier. If you wanted something, you had to go get it. Depending on how much time you had, you might take the time to travel to a couple of stores or make a few phone calls to compare prices and availability, but for the most part we were happy with what we could get from the brands we trusted and called it good. We didn’t expect much more than the product we were seeking and a little courteous service from sales staff.

Until very recently, consumers of healthcare in the U.S. had a similar kind of experience. If they felt like they needed care, they went to the provider in their health plan’s network and got what the provider offered. How much it cost wasn’t particularly important because the plan paid for most of it.

That all began to change in the 2,000s. Healthcare’s opaque pricing structure led to year after year of outsized cost increases and the introduction of high-deductible health plans by employers who were no longer able to bear the burden of the higher cost of care. As a result, average family premiums topped a record $20,000 per year in 2018 according to a Kaiser Family Foundation survey. Facing high deductibles and copays, suddenly patients began asking “How much will it cost?” and “How will I pay for it?”. For too many, the answers have been, “I don’t know. They won’t tell me” and “I can’t afford it.”

At the beginning of the millennium, few of us would have guessed that online shopping would soon completely transform the American retail industry. Yet, according to analysis published by Digital Commerce 360, in 2018 alone online purchases in the U.S. amounted to $517 billion, up 15% from the previous year (compared to just 3.9% overall). Perhaps more significantly, this growth in eCommerce led to the closure of 1,521 retail storefronts and accelerated industry consolidation with 21 all-retail acquisitions among companies striving to stay relevant and profitable. Any way you look at it, the business of retail has changed forever.

Transformation in Healthcare is Inevitable

A similar kind of transformation is underway in the American healthcare industry, driven largely by patients. Emboldened by difficult personal financial circumstances and enabled by rapidly advancing technologies and the emergence of new entrants like Haven Healthcare, Walgreens Health, CVS Health and others, patients are demanding more.

Patients are finding allies in state and federal government where the list of proposed legislation and regulations to control costs and improve access contains 927 different bills. Patients, who once represented a small portion of healthcare’s overall operating revenue, are now the third largest (behind only Medicare and Medicaid). As consumers, patients are finding they have a choice when it comes to where and how they get their care. For executives and strategists, patients are now a force that must be reckoned with.

According to the Top health industry issues report from PwC, “The US health industry has often lagged other industries when it comes to modernizing. Once thought to operate outside the greater US economy, the industry—with its byzantine payment system, complicated regulatory barriers and reliance on face-to-face interactions—is being disrupted. Finally, there’s robust evidence that what PwC calls the New Health Economy is kicking into gear.”

This report’s reference to the “New Health Economy”, acknowledges patients’ growing influence and their increasing willingness to break away from traditional care delivery models. The report’s authors note that “54% of consumers would be likely to try an FDA-approved app or online tool for treatment.” Additionally, it challenges providers to “Create the Southwest Airlines of healthcare”, by finding ways to serve patients who are un- or under-insured and do it profitably.

This comparison to a well-recognized consumer brand is not an accident. More than ever, healthcare providers are now in the business of winning and keeping patients and the revenue controlled by the choices patients make. One example is HCA Healthcare’s recent acquisition of 24 MedSpring urgent care centers, growing its urgent care network to 160 centers across the country. In response to increasing demand for healthcare services that are closer to where people live and work, HCA is adapting to “provide more convenient access for our patients”. Significantly, these outpatient services are also less costly for patients and providers, as studied in this recent Loyale article.

For Patients, It’s Only One Experience

Healthcare providers have made significant investments in technologies and systems to improve the quality of clinical care and comply with regulatory requirements for health information privacy, security and portability. Advanced clinical applications and the industry’s virtually universal adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems represent some of the important and beneficial outcomes of these multi-billion dollar investments.

Great as these improvements are, the industry is only now facing the fact that patients don’t measure their experiences by clinical metrics alone. To win and keep patients’ healthcare “business”, every patient touchpoint must be understood and addressed. For many, that process begins with price transparency, something the current administration and CMS have made a high priority as a means of “enabling patients to be active consumers of healthcare”.

For us at Loyale, transparency is certainly part of the picture. But delivering game-winning patient experiences calls for a much bigger strategy. One that empowers healthcare providers and their teams to predictably and systematically deliver financial and administrative experiences that are on par with their clinical care. We believe that this will be the new standard by which healthcare providers are judged in the New Health Economy.

Six Ways to Engage Patients for Better Consumer and Provider Outcomes

As healthcare providers turn their attention toward patients’ experiences in dimensions other than clinical care, they are considering new ways to structure and deliver multi-dimensional care experiences that are more affordable and convenient. To compete and win in the new consumer-driven healthcare market, Loyale has learned that each of the following six elements must be present in order to remove obstacles to care and address deteriorating patient satisfaction that results from unsatisfactory nonclinical experiences.

1.    Full scope payment integration – A coherent, integrated bridge to make payment the outcome of engagement, not just an isolated transaction. This is characterized by automated fund distribution, full-scope tender types and technologies, refund management and electronic refunds, lowest-cost merchant routing, single-threaded control and reconciliation

2.    Omnichannel engagement – Intelligent, context-sensitive communications where patients want it and/or where their behavior shows they are most responsive. Adaptable for clinical communications too: This includes virtual consolidated bills, messaging via email and mobile SMS, secure chat, fully integrable with RCM vendors

3.    Open architecture – Solutions like Loyale Patient Financial Manager™ operate a single, secure hub that enables seamless interoperability between all existing and future technologies and processes for long-term durability and value: this structure facilitates integrated, unbiased vendor management, single sign-on for both clinical and financial portals

4.    Affordability, for patients and providers – The Loyale Affordability Workbench™ delivers pricing and payment strategies that align with provider objectives for improved access, lower costs and better patient collections while making care more affordable for patients – all configurable by setting

5.    Staff and enterprise-friendly – Process improvement tools and reporting to improve staff productivity and satisfaction and deliver best-in-breed revenue cycle decision analytics: User-friendly, provider facing functionality that gives providers visibility into behavioral patient intelligence, real-time patient experience assessments, intelligent collection workflows and enterprise analytics, all HIPAA, PCI, HITRUST, SOC2 audited

6.    End to end coherence of data, process, point solutions, analytics and management for a One Bed, One Bill experience: Full integration of all systems, single source of payers’ behavioral truth, a fully controllable patient financial experience offering peerless visibility into revenue cycle vendor performance

Loyale has been optimizing the payment behavior of consumers and patients for nearly thirty years. We were among the first to recognize the growing importance of patient choice in a changing healthcare marketplace, so we designed and engineered Loyale’s Patient Financial Engagement Platform to address each of these six patient experience imperatives. Now operating for more than 12,000 healthcare facilities across 48 states and processing more than 100,000 patient encounters daily, we’re pleased to play an important role in healthcare’s transition to the “New Health Economy”.

Emergency Reporting® Fire Department Software Provides Free Training for Fire and EMS Personnel

We can help you solve your data management challenges in a focused, friendly and fun environment. Our newest webinar series is just the ticket for sharing tried and true solutions. – Tom Louis, ER Senior Data Analyst.

Emergency Reporting® (ER), the global leader in cloud-based reporting and records management software for Fire and EMS agencies, is now offering free, semi-monthly educational training webinars to customers and non-customers alike.

The Twenty for 2020 webinar series is designed to set departments up for success for the coming year. Each session is one hour and provides a deep dive into a specific topic that’s standards-based, data-driven, and crucial for departments to run efficiently. Some topics include PPE Management, ISO Success, Annual Reports, and streamlining inspections. All of the webinars are recorded and posted on ER’s YouTube channel for anyone to view if they can’t attend the live training.

The webinars are led by ER Senior Data Analyst, Tom Louis, who previously served 22 years in the fire service as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain, and Battalion Chief. When asked about the webinar series, he commented, “We can help you solve your data management challenges in a focused, friendly and fun environment. Our newest webinar series is just the ticket for sharing tried and true solutions.”

Emergency Reporting is dedicated to serving the fire/EMS community by providing the tools they need to be successful. Knowledge and training are a large part of that service, which is why ER offers this educational series to any fire/EMS personnel who wants to take part. The topics will cover some aspects within the ER system but focuses on general tips that can be used by non-ER users as well.

Continued education and training are key factors in any job but are especially so in the fire service where their work directly affects the communities around them. One of the core values that Emergency Reporting was built on is fire service advocacy. They believe that investing time and resources into creating training materials can help firefighters keep up to date on changing technologies and data management needs. Because of this value, ER also provides other resources in addition to training webinars such as free educational white papers, case studies, and blog posts on their website, including a recent blog series highlighting Community Risk Reduction tools and best practices.

Louis continued, “Most of us in the fire service didn’t sign up to be data analysts, but if we’re honest, data touches every part of our jobs from incident reporting to training records. In order to compete for funding, effectively serve our communities, and keep our crews safe, we need to get a handle on the volumes of data a fire department generates every day and use it to our advantage. Every fire department has a story to tell. Emergency Reporting can help you tell that story better than ever with our Twenty for 2020 webinars.”

Each installment of the Twenty for 2020 webinar series will be held on a Thursday at 11am Eastern time. View the full schedule and register for a session here.

B2i Healthcare certified as EHDEN data transformation partner

News Image

B2i Healthcare

EHDEN’s generous grant opportunities will allow many hospitals and primary care networks to explore the transformative power of data analytics across a harmonized electronic healthcare record standard.

B2i Healthcare (B2i) has been certified by the European Health Data & Evidence Network (EHDEN) to transform data to a common data model and unlock the potential of real-world healthcare data. Through this program, B2i will work with healthcare data owners to standardize their electronic healthcare records to a common format. Each healthcare provider can receive a grant of up to 100,000 EUR from the EHDEN Harmonization Fund to support B2i’s data harmonization activities.

Orsolya Bali, B2i’s Managing Director stated, “We’re delighted to be one of first SMEs trained and certified to ensure high validity transformation of data to the OMOP common data model. EHDEN’s generous grant opportunities will allow many hospitals and primary care networks to explore the transformative power of data analytics across a harmonized electronic healthcare record standard.”

EHDEN is an Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) project which aspires to harmonize 100 million anonymized health records across multiple data sources. The project will support other IMI projects within a wider Big Data for Better Outcomes program and will collaborate strongly with other key stakeholders in Europe, such as the European Medicines Agency. This will ultimately result in a Europe that more smartly manages and shares research methodologies – and expands education in open science and collaboration.

“We believe EHDEN is a flagship project, and it will be significantly influential,” said Nigel Hughes, Project Leader for EHDEN at Janssen, “building on the heritage and developments of prior and current projects in and out of IMI, and it will establish 21st century tools for 21st research.” Prof. Peter Rijnbeek, Erasmus Medical Center and Coordinator of EHDEN added, “As such it will impact on European health records research for years and decades to come, and will enable better health decisions, outcomes and care.”

Central to EHDEN will be the standardization of health data to the OMOP common data model and the utilization of analytical tools such as those developed by the international Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) open science collaboration (http://www.ohdsi.org), and others.

“Charles Iker is equal parts Dr. Seuss and Dr. Phil. This absolutely gorgeous book does what the best children’s stories do: educate, entertain and comfort.” —Mike Reiss, Emmy-winning writer “The Simpsons”

Almost half of all marriages end in divorce, and the children suffer emotionally. If their feelings are left unaddressed, children of divorce can grow up to be unhappy adults, unable to achieve successful relationships or healthy lives.

Charles M. Iker, LCSW, ACSW, BCD, is a psychiatric social worker with thirty-five years of experience working with children who have suffered from the effects of divorce. As a father and a therapist who went through divorce and who watched the emotional impact it had on his child, and later on his stepson, he conceived and wrote Little Fergen’s Fish Feelings.

The story is simple: Fergen is a happy little fish. He swims and plays with his sisters in the sea. But, when Fergen gets the unexpected news that his parents are going through a divorce and that he and his sisters will have to move into a new home, his carefree life as a free floating fish is turned belly-up. In the end, the story offers a positive approach to help a child learn to cope with the volatility and emotional reality of divorce.

“When left unprocessed, these feelings can have an extremely negative effect on people and become the foundation for anxiety disorders, depression, behavioral problems, and other physiological difficulties,” Iker states. He recommends that therapists and parents use Fergen as a psychological aid, to read to their patients or to their children. For parents in the process of divorcing, he suggests that each parent read Fergen to their children separately, to provide continuity and reinforcement.
