Medical Device Reporting

Best Practices and Common Pitfalls

An FDAnews Webinar

Tuesday, June 21, 2022, 1:30 p.m.–3:00 p.m. EDT

https://wcg.swoogo.com/medical-device-reporting

A medical device reporting (MDR) system could be all that stands between device professionals and Part 803 enforcement action.

A devicemaker’s MDR system is one of the main areas of focus during an FDA inspection. And with Part 803 being one of the least understood regulations, devicemakers cannot afford to miss this webinar.

Pamela Forrest, a partner and co-chair of Covington & Burling’s medical devices and diagnostics practice, will share what attendees must do to build, or adapt, their MDR system to withstand FDA scrutiny.

A 25-year veteran of FDA regulatory compliance, she will break down the requirements, terms and timelines presented in Part 803, one of the thorniest areas of FDA regulation. Ms. Forrest will also advise attendees of the best MDR practices and explain how to avoid common pitfalls, including:

  • The meaning of key MDR regulatory terms and concepts, including “malfunction,” “become aware” and “caused or contributed”
  • Deadlines for submitting MDRs and the types of reports to file
  • What information must be included in an MDR
  • How to document and justify a decision NOT to file an MDR
  • The potential legal consequences of failing to comply with Part 803 requirements
  • Examples of FDA enforcement against firms for failure to comply with MDR requirements

If devicemakers are less than confident if their MDR system is working to prevent Part 803 enforcement actions, they need this webinar.

Tickets On Sale For Karate Combat Season 4: Atamov Vs Levine

[ad_1]

Two world title fights headline Karate Combat in Orlando on 6/25

“This is a landmark event for Karate Combat – the first time that we’re allowing fans to buy tickets. Until now, you could only attend a Karate Combat event by invitation. The atmosphere will be electric and I expect this to be the best event in Karate Combat history.”

Karate Combat, the global phenomenon changing the game in sports-entertainment, heads to Stage 21 on The Backlot at Universal Studios, Florida on Saturday, June 25 for a landmark live event – and for the first time ever, Karate Combat is making tickets available to the public.

Tickets go on sale today, Monday June 6, via Karate.com/tickets

With tickets very limited for this first-time opportunity to experience the world’s most unique fight league first-hand, fans are advised to book tickets early to avoid missing out.

Karate Combat: Season 4 – Atamov vs. Levine is headlined by two world title fights and will also host the Karate Combat debut of former Bellator and GLORY Kickboxing champion Gabriel Varga.

“This is a landmark event for Karate Combat – the first time that we’re allowing fans to buy tickets. Until now, you could only attend a Karate Combat event by invitation. We’re putting on a stacked card at an iconic location, the atmosphere will be electric and I expect this to be the best event in Karate Combat history,” said Karate Combat President Adam Kovacs.

Rhode Island’s Ross ‘Turbo’ Levine will challenge reigning middleweight champion Shahin Atamov of Azerbaijan for the Karate Combat World Middleweight Championship in the headline slot, having earned his shot with a stunning spin-kick TKO victory over Igor de Castaneda earlier this month.

Ireland’s Eoghan Chelmiah, the Karate Combat World Bantamweight Champion, will rematch bitter rival Illies ‘The Madman’ Mardhi in the chief support slot, the two picking up where they left off after their Season 3 bout was cut short due to the French-Moroccan breaking his right hand during the course of a four-round war.

With one Bellator Kickboxing world championship and two GLORY Kickboxing world titles to his credit, Vancouver’s Gabriel Varga is one of the world’s most decorated professional karatekas. He will debut on this card in a lightweight bout, with Karate Combat targeting the winner of next week’s bout between top contenders Vitalie Certan and Bruno Assis as his opponent.

And if legendary competitor Rafael Aghayev wins his bout with Zsolt Habda at this week’s event, he will be added to the Orlando card for a long-awaited showdown with bitter rival Davy Dona. The two have a longstanding beef from their time on the amateur circuit – Orlando may be the place it gets settled.

Also confirmed for the card is the deadly Omaira ‘La Guerrera’ Molina. The Venezuelan’s victories in Season 3 included a jaw-dropping knockout and two awards (Best Female Fighter; KO Punch of the Season) in the fan-voted official End-of-Season awards. Now 3-0 in Karate Combat, she faces Brazilian battler Ana Ferreira Da Silva and will be calling for a world title shot if she wins.

Light-heavyweight contender Elhadji “Black Magic” Ndour returns to The Pit at this event, traveling from New York to face heavy-handed Moroccan rival Achraf Ouchen in a battle which will shape the division’s world title contention picture.

Canadian standout Robbie Lavoie, a longtime student of Raymond “Real Deal” Daniels and member of the Canadian national team, makes his Karate Combat debut against France’s Mouley Oudoud, who is coming off a Season 3 loss to bantamweight champion Chelmiah.

Rounding out the card’s Canadian contingent is Rob Buxton, who faces Adrian Galvan, a Team USA competitor, in a middleweight contest.

The full event card as announced to date is as follows:

Roswell Park Expert to Present on Effectiveness of New Combination for Acute Myeloid Leukemia

[ad_1]

Leukemia expert Dr. Eunice Wang in her lab at Roswell Park

In a talk at ASCO 2022, Eunice Wang, MD, will present long-term results from a phase 2 trial of crenolanib with chemotherapy for treatment of adults with newly diagnosed FLT3-mutant AML.

“Our results were highly promising, with more than 80% of patients who received the crenolanib chemotherapy combination achieving clinical responses after treatment, and more than half still alive after almost 4 years.”

On Tuesday, June 7, Eunice Wang, MD, Chief of Leukemia at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, will present the long-term results of a phase 2 clinical trial combining crenolanib, a second-generation FLT3 inhibitor, with standard intensive chemotherapy for treatment of adults with newly diagnosed FLT3-mutant acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Dr. Wang will discuss the findings at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting 2022, at 11:57 a.m. CDT, in Hall S, room 100a, during the Hematologic Malignancies—Leukemia, Myelodysplastic Syndromes, and Allotransplant oral abstract session (abstract 7007).

In this multicenter Roswell Park-led clinical trial, 44 patients with newly diagnosed FLT3-mutant AML received standard front-line induction chemotherapy with cytarabine for 7 days and daunorubicin or idarubicin for 3 days. Starting on day 9, crenolanib, which is an active inhibitor of FLT3- ITD, TKD and variant AML mutations, was administered three times per day until 3 days before the next chemotherapy treatment. Most patients (75%) had FLT3-ITD mutations, 8 patients (18%) had TKD mutations, and 3 patients (7%) had both ITD and TKD mutations.

After one treatment cycle, 73% of patients experienced clinical responses, and 86% of patients responded to treatment after two cycles. Better responses were noted in younger patients (≤ 60 years) and those with FLT3-ITD mutations.

“Our results were highly promising, with more than 80% of patients who received the crenolanib chemotherapy combination achieving clinical responses after treatment, and more than half still alive after almost 4 years,” says Dr. Wang, principal investigator of the clinical trial and senior author of the study. “We believe that addition of this next-generation FLT3 inhibitor to conventional chemotherapy could significantly improve outcomes and become the new standard of care for patients with FLT3-mutant AML.”

The most common treatment-related adverse events were diarrhea, nausea and febrile neutropenia, and six patients required crenolanib dose reduction during treatment. Approximately 15% of patients experienced disease relapse, but mutational analysis in these patients showed clearance of multiple FLT3 mutations and no new FLT3 clones.

A larger, phase 3 clinical trial (NCT03258931) randomizing patients with newly diagnosed FLT3-mutant AML to receive either crenolanib or midostaurin is underway at 31 sites and currently enrolling patients at Roswell Park.
