Princeton Medspa Partners has closed on the acquisition of Kovak Cosmetic Center, founded by Dr. Stanley Kovak, who will spearhead the creation of PMP’s Medical Advisory Board.

“Kovak Cosmetic Center is the exact kind of established, blue-chip medical spa we want to build our company around,” states Nick Williams, Princeton Medspa Partners CEO.

Princeton Medspa Partners has closed on the acquisition of Kovak Cosmetic Center, a Chicago suburbs-based medical spa. Kovak Cosmetic Center was founded in 1995 by international speaker and cosmetic medical textbook author Dr. Stanley Kovak. Both the practice and Dr. Kovak have earned numerous awards and distinctions and have been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

“There were a lot of companies interested in my practice, but in the end, Princeton Medspa Partners was the only one that made sense. They are partnering with best-in-class medical spas and have made a real commitment to focusing on a patient care-centric model,” says Dr. Stanley Kovak.

Dr. Kovak will remain the lead physician at KCC, continuing his more than 20-year run as one of Chicago’s top aesthetic medical providers. Dr. Kovak will also spearhead the creation of PMP’s Medical Advisory Board, a physician governed body that will present medical leadership support to the PMP portfolio of clinics, as well as provide service line coaching and training.

“Kovak Cosmetic Center is the exact kind of established, blue-chip medical spa we want to build our company around. The value that KCC brings to PMP is immense, but the thought leadership that Dr. Kovak will personally bring to this company is even more intriguing. I am very excited to see him get the Medical Advisory Board established, as I strongly believe that the increased focus we are placing on physician input and thought leadership in the company will truly set us apart in the market,” states Nick Williams, Princeton Medspa Partners CEO.

“I have known Dr. Kovak for a very long time, and I have even shared the podium with him on more than one occasion. This partnership is an incredible addition to the PMP brand, and is going to further supercharge our growth, both in clinical performance as well as attracting new partnership opportunities to the business,” says PMP President Francis Acunzo.

Smartphone psychotherapy trial with MGH reveals multiple patterns of effective engagement in mental health treatment

Building on previous research on the effectiveness of smartphone-delivered CBT to reduce the severity of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, a new study by Massachusetts General Hospital and Koa Health found multiple ways of engaging with therapy apps associated with improvement in mental health conditions.

– Use of Koa Perspectives’ smartphone-delivered CBT was associated with a reduction in the severity of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) compared to a waitlist

  • Multiple ways of engaging with the app were associated with reductions in symptoms
  • An app-based approach to care is promising, as it allows users to take control of their therapy and work at their own speed
  • The Koa Perspectives app has been identified by the British National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a promising new medical technology and conditionally recommended for rapid deployment into the National Health Service (NHS)

New research from Massachusetts General Hospital, founding member of Mass General Brigham, and Koa Health has found that people have varying preferences around how to use smartphone therapy apps and there are multiple ways of engaging associated with improvement in the digital treatment of mental health conditions.

The study, published in Internet Interventions, developed a new methodology to measure and study smartphone psychotherapy engagement, building upon a previously published study that found Koa Perspectives’ smartphone-delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to be effective in reducing the severity of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

While numerous studies support the use of CBT for BDD, many patients are unable to find providers with expertise in this therapy modality or cannot afford treatment. App-based treatment—if engaged with effectively—may offer a practical alternative.

Extended analysis of the 12-week randomized waitlist-controlled trial results showed improvement in BDD severity across three types of users who exhibited different patterns of engagement with the app, namely samplers, deep users and light users. Samplers used the app frequently and widely, but engaged briefly, and perhaps more superficially. Deep users engaged with the app less overall, but when they did log in, engaged more deeply for a longer time. Light users were active on the app for shorter sessions and less frequently than the other two user types. Deep users experienced marginally higher levels of improvement than light users, but the results suggest varying levels of engagement can be efficacious. Furthermore, due to the currently limited data around how people prefer to engage with psychotherapy apps and what constitutes effective engagement, these results provide a useful framework for how to evaluate and improve behavioral engagement in digital interventions.

Developed by Sabine Wilhelm, PhD, Hilary Weingarden, PhD, and Jennifer Greenberg, PsyD from the Center for OCD and Related Disorders (CORD), and the Center for Digital Mental Health in collaboration with Koa Health, Koa Perspectives is coach-supported and was recently identified as a promising new medical technology and conditionally recommended for rapid deployment into the National Health Service (NHS) by the British National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Dr. Aleks Matic, Research and Development Director at Koa Health said:

“Digital solutions have given us the potential to redefine how people engage with therapy—they allow patients to progress on their terms and achieve positive outcomes. Positive treatment response isn’t about volume, but rather about engagement, and our research points to there being more than one type of engaged user that benefits from digitally-enabled care.”

Dr. Sabine Wilhem, Chief of Psychology and founder and director of Body Dysmorphic Disorder Clinic and Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital said:

“Body Dysmorphic Disorder is notoriously difficult to treat, and the method that we’ve seen to be among the most effective, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is time-intensive and costly for many patients. Our study results indicate that an app-based approach can be of help across a range of engagement levels.”

Dr. Hilary Weingarden, Assistant Director at the Center for Digital Mental Health and assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, and lead author on this piece said:

“It’s exciting to see that not everyone has to use therapy apps in exactly the same way. People can use Perspectives BDD when and how they prefer to use it, to fit within their lives.”

Dr. Anna Mandeville, UK Clinical Director, Koa Health said:

“When I trained as a therapist there was no option but to do everything in the one hour session, in-person. We had to help people feel comfortable and build trust, explain theory, set goals and assign homework. Unfortunately, some patients lost their homework sheets, or forgot what goals we planned, because at that point they were really struggling to cope— and anyway it’s hard to remember! Digital mental health takes some of the heavy lifting out of therapy sessions, because it helps patients to check back on theories, remember goals, plan activities and track their progress, for example, on a dashboard, in between therapy sessions. Some people worry digital therapies take the ‘humanness’ out of therapy. From what I’ve seen they don’t. Digitally-enabled therapies provide more continuous support for patients and create space for mental health professionals to be really effective by concentrating on collaborative problem solving, progress blockers and celebrating successes in scheduled sessions. What an improvement!”

Dr. Oliver Harrison, CEO at Koa Health said:

“Digitally-enabled treatment allows people to take control of their own therapy in a way they weren’t previously able to. This makes a lot of sense, as people have different learning and engagement styles, with some taking more or less time to absorb new information than others. The exciting news is that the data from our study of Perspectives BDD shows that there’s no one ‘right’ way to engage with a digital solution, as users with a variety of engagement styles achieved very similar, and very positive clinical outcomes.”

The agenda comprises track sessions on emerging technologies and novel implementations, single-cell genomics, multi-omics methods and applications, long-read sequencing, representation in genetic and genomic studies, new approaches in molecular diagnostics, infectious disease diagnostics and surveillance, advances and applications in liquid biopsy, precision medicine in clinical practice, moving beyond mutation, and precision diagnostics. Thousands of conference attendees will be intrigued to learn more about health outcomes, novel therapies and advancements in health systems and personalized medicine today.

The first day of the conference encompasses over a dozen presentations by recognized speakers focused on Genetics and Genomics, and a keynote address titled, ‘How Do We Enable Precision Health at Scale for All’ with live Q&A presented by Carlos D. Bustamante, PhD, Founder and CEO, Galatea Bio, Inc. Shortly after, a second keynote talk titled, ‘The Path to Universal Newborn Sequencing” with live Q&A, by Robert C. Green, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of Genomes2People Research Program will explore the current state of genomics research and its potential to improve human health through personalized and preventive medicine.

Day two kicks off with three stellar scheduled keynote deliveries highlighting the precision medicine topic along with additional presentations available for immediate viewing when the doors open. Dr. Howard L. McLeod, Medical Director, Precision Medicine, Professor of Pharmacy and Medicine at Utah Tech University will explore “Precision Medicine as a Population Health Strategy” with a live Q&A session. The next keynote presentation titled, “The Impact of Clinical Practice Gaps on the Implementation of Personalized Medicine in Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (aNSCLS) with live Q&A will be shared by Daryl Pritchard, PhD, Senior Vice President of Science Policy, Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC) discussing what impact each clinical practice gap has on the population level delivery of precision oncology. Following, Dr. Stephen Little, Founder of Yourgene Health, will present a keynote talk featuring live Q&A on a high-level view of healthcare systems and suggest strategies to ensure successful translation of a CDx into clinical practice.

“Both wellness and disease management have come into focus, with an individual’s genetic variation emerging as a practical way to identify risk and personalize care,” said Dr. McLeod, Director, Center for Precision Medicine at Utah Tech University. “Advances in genome technology, applied informatics, and therapeutic interventions are expanding the impact on a patient’s health. This session on the Labroots platform will show how ‘cutting-edge’ is becoming ‘routine’ for many clinical areas.”

“While personalized medicine in oncology provides opportunities to improve outcomes, many cancer patients do not receive the most effective personalized treatments because of challenges associated with integrating predictive biomarker testing into clinical care,” said Daryl Pritchard, Senior Vice President of Science Policy, Personalized Medicine Coalition. “In this Labroots virtual session, we will discuss how clinical practice gaps involving operational inefficiencies, limited understanding of biomarker strategies, inappropriate testing result usage, and access barriers have led to inefficient clinical adoption of precision oncology in advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Insights from this discussion can inform efforts to optimize biomarker testing in clinical practice and therefore help drive the delivery of personalized medicine to all cancer patients.”

“The idea of using a diagnostic test to help select patients likely to respond well to a particular therapy is hardly new – Herceptest to predict response to Herceptin first appeared in 1998 and the field has continued to grow from there,” said Dr. Stephen Little, Founder of Yourgene Health. “Once quite a novel concept Personalised Medicine is now firmly established as part of normal healthcare practice. Using the Labroots platform I will give a high-level view of healthcare systems and what we have learned over the years to ensure successful translation of a companion diagnostic into clinical practice.”

Day three concludes the Genetics Week event bringing even more thought-provoking discussions relevant to the discipline of molecular diagnostics. A lineup of distinguished speakers on this day will cover topics such as on the advantage of combining short read whole genome sequencing, optical genome mapping and transcriptome analysis in constitutional and cancer diagnostics, the difference in standard of care (SOC) testing and self-collection sampling (SCS) for STI testing and where current regulations stands, achieving efficient and sensitive rare cell capture for culture and downstream molecular analyses, and advances in diagnostic testing for the bacteria, viruses, and parasites behind infectious gastroenteritis, plus more.

Produced on Labroots’ comprehensive platform, while connecting across all desktop and mobile devices, the interactive environment provides an immersive educational experience. StorMagic SvSAN Ranked a Global TOP 5 HCI Solution by Data Center Analyst Firm DCIG

“Features that catapulted SvSAN as a top solution included minimal and flexible hardware requirements, high availability, ease of management and ease of procurement through StorMagic’s extensive partner network.”

StorMagic®, solving the world’s edge data problems, today announced that storage analyst firm DCIG LLC named StorMagic SvSAN a global top five HCI solution. The “2023-24 DCIG TOP 5 Rising Vendors HCI Software Solutions” report evaluates offerings from eleven rising vendor HCI software solutions to provide IT decision makers with succinct analysis of the market’s HCI solutions.

“Our research shows that HCI software addresses the challenges associated with managing IT infrastructure for small to medium-sized enterprises,” said Ken Clipperton, DCIG lead analyst for Storage. “Features that catapulted SvSAN as a top solution included minimal and flexible hardware requirements, high availability, ease of management and ease of procurement through StorMagic’s extensive partner network.”

StorMagic SvSAN is unique in the hyperconverged infrastructure market because of its 2-node architecture. Using SvSAN, organizations are able to massively simplify their edge IT infrastructure while retaining high availability and reducing both CapEx and OpEx costs. SvSAN makes it easy for end users to get value from essential data at and from the edge.

“StorMagic SvSAN was designed for customers with just a few or many thousands of sites – like remote and branch offices, retail chains and healthcare organizations,” said Bruce Kornfeld, chief marketing and product officer, StorMagic. “DCIG’s report is timely and a terrific resource for customers who are moving from the cloud to HCI solutions at the edge, to efficiently and affordably manage data where it is being created.”

SvSAN attributes that secured the DCIG TOP 5 award include:

  • Minimal hardware requirements. Organizations benefit from SvSAN’s minimal hardware requirements, which simplifies components and costs. The two nodes in an SvSAN cluster can use different hardware configurations, so customers aren’t required to use the identical solution for all nodes.
  • Simple high availability. Edge locations generally lack on-site IT support, lengthening outages when failures occur. An SvSAN two-server solution delivers all the features necessary to ensure 100 percent uptime at these remote sites.
  • Simple management oversight. SvSAN is simple to install and once installed, runs in the background without needing daily or weekly maintenance. Customers can monitor a large fleet of SvSAN installations from a single location.
  • Extensive partner network. StorMagic’s sales model is 100% channel based so customers acquire SvSAN through its partner ecosystem of server OEMs and a global network of VARs.
