Fairhaven Health Launches the OvaCue Wireless Fertility Monitor to Help Women Pinpoint Ovulation With Confidence

News Image

Typically, it’s not until a couple decides to conceive that they think about cycles and ovulation. But being proactive is key. OvaCue offers more accurate cycle information than urine-based trackers,” said Peter Rizk, OBGYN and fertility specialist.

Fairhaven Health, a market leader in consumer products for fertility and women’s health, has released OvaCue Wireless, the highly anticipated next-gen update to the trusted OvaCue cycle tracking monitor. Building on the proven technology and proprietary algorithm of the original OvaCue, the new OvaCue Wireless offers an improved user experience.

This simple-to-use monitor connects to smart devices via Bluetooth and integrates with the free OvaGraph fertility charting app to identify peak fertile days, predicting ovulation up to 7 days in advanced, compared to urine-based LH (luteinizing hormone) tests and monitors that provide at most 24-48 hours advance notice. Unlike most other fertility monitors on the market, OvaCue requires no recurring purchases of test sticks or subscription fees – which can, in some cases, exceed $50 per month on top of the initial purchase price of the monitor – making OvaCue Wireless one of the most cost-efficient fertility monitors available.

Using two wireless sensors, OvaCue provides users with comprehensive data easily interpreted to help identify their fertile window and is ideal for those with irregular cycles. The device recognizes signs that ovulation is imminent by tracking electrolyte levels in saliva and cervical mucus, which are impacted by fluctuating estrogen levels. Unlike urine-based monitors that require messy and costly daily urine testing, OvaCue’s reusable sensors use electrolytes to predict and accurately indicate when ovulation has likely taken place. Urine-based monitors compare a woman’s results to predetermined hormone levels which can be problematic for those with hormone imbalances. OvaCue’s technology, in contrast, identifies trends in a woman’s own data for more reliable and personalized results. And unlike monitors relying solely on basal temperature, OvaCue provides users more comprehensive cycle data and does so without the discomfort of a wearable device.

“Typically, it’s not until a couple decides to conceive that they think about cycles and ovulation. But being proactive is key,” said Peter Rizk, OBGYN and fertility specialist. “OvaCue offers more accurate cycle information than urine-based trackers. Most women are fertile just six days a month, so knowing one’s cycle is the single most important part of beginning the journey of trying to get pregnant. OvaCue gives this information 5-7 days in advance, breaking it down into easy-to-read charts and highlighted fertile days giving guidelines for possible conception. Paired with the availability of trained product specialists always there to answer questions, OvaCue is one of the most robust fertility monitors on the market.”

In tandem, Fairhaven Health offers OvaCue users personalized support with knowledgeable product specialists. Women have access to resources and advice along their entire conception journey over email, phone and chat. OvaCue users are also invited to participate in moderated community forums, in which a caring, vibrant group of women share their stories.

“The community and OvaCue support staff are amazing! I receive timely responses to inquiries, and I am beyond impressed with the OvaGraph forum moderators,” said Sarah, an OvaCue user. “They do a fantastic job answering questions and interpreting charts. Secondly, I love its seamless and intuitive integration with the OvaGraph app, which clearly translates the information from the sensors, providing a picture of what is happening each cycle. The magic is in the prediction of the fertile days that appear on your chart ahead of time. I highly recommend it to anyone trying to conceive or who wants to learn more about their own cycles.”

OvaCue syncs with OvaGraph, the official charting tool of Toni Weschler’s best-selling book, Taking Charge of your Fertility. Women can easily and quickly share charts with their OBGYN or nurse practitioner.

EyeMarker Systems, Inc. Announces Funding Plans to Bring Innovative, Portable, Fast, Accurate Concussion Assessment and Tracking Solution to Market

We hope to help by providing a solution to aid in faster, more accurate assessment and lifetime tracking of concussions to empower parents and coaches to make informed decisions about their young athletes’ future health.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a silent epidemic. 69 million people worldwide are estimated to sustain a TBI each year, from a range of causes including traffic accidents, athletic participation, falling injuries, violence, and combat. This epidemic is called “silent” because the injuries and symptoms often go unrecognized and untreated. The problems worsen with repeat injuries, especially if the brain is not given adequate recovery time after an incident. This makes early, accurate detection and ready availability of an individual’s previous results critical for both recovery and prevention of chronic symptoms.

But early, accurate detection based on signs and symptoms is challenging: symptoms vary greatly, are not unique to TBI as a cause, and often don’t manifest until days or weeks later. CT scan, X‑ray, and MRI, are large, expensive devices only available in a hospital or clinical setting, and only minimally effective at detecting milder injuries not involving structural damage.

The common field solutions are a Q&A assessment and the “swinging light test”, both of which rely on the experience of the administering professional and vary widely in their accuracy.

In the swinging light test, a light source is rapidly switched back and forth between the two eyes to determine any difference in the pupil response between the two eyes, known as Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect (RAPD). It takes years for a person to get proficient and confident in the method, and even then, it’s a very rough tool—a simple five-point grading system. Studies show that even trained professionals are unable to detect changes below a certain threshold, and the five-point scale isn’t accurate enough to track subtle changes in an individual over time. The test attempts to make distinctions on the order of 0.15 millimeters and 30 milliseconds—or in familiar terms, the thickness of a piece of heavy copy paper in 1/5 the blink of an eye. Understandably, it’s impossible for humans to consistently perform the test with precision and accuracy.

EyeMarker Systems has developed a Phase 1 solution to this problem in the case of mild traumatic brain injury (or “mTBI”, also called “concussion”): the Brain Rapid Assessment Device (BRAD), an accurate, lightweight, portable device that automates the swinging light test, and the Brain Injury Tracker (BIT), which stores individual incident history in the cloud. The device is simple to operate and requires little training. It can be administered field-side within moments following an athletic injury, or on-scene by emergency personnel immediately upon determination of a possible head injury.

The BIT cloud storage system provides critical support to the BRAD testing. By testing athletes at the start of each season, their results can be compared to their individual baseline, rather than general population averages, detecting subtle changes that might otherwise go unnoticed. With individual tests being no additional cost, they can easily be reassessed before returning to play, helping coaches and parents protect the lifetime health of their athletes.

The device was originally developed at the West Virginia University Eye Institute, and a BRAD prototype is undergoing field trials with the West Virginia University football team. The technology was originally developed for the detection of exposure to highly toxic neurotoxins, as demonstrated with contracts from the Defense Advanced Research and Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

EyeMarker Systems is poised to bring this technology to market, and today announced the details of its fundraising plan, beginning with a Rule 506(c) offering in which it is seeking to raise $4 million to be used primarily to prepare the BRAD and the BIT for regulatory submission and further develop its business model and scale up. To complete the regulatory clearance or approval process and commercialize the BRAD-BIT™ solution, EyeMarker Systems plans to conduct a subsequent Regulation A, Tier 2 (“Regulation A+”) offering seeking up to $30 million.

“This technology has been years in development and testing, and we’re eager to bring it to market,” said EyeMarker Systems CEO, Wes McGee. “It saves lives and saves minds.”

“I’m particularly excited about the application in youth sports,” McGee continues. “There are over 20 million kids participating in high-risk youth sports and the play is getting faster, more complex, and more dangerous. But public awareness campaigns, rule changes, and equipment improvements haven’t stemmed the tide on concussions. We hope to help by providing a solution to aid in faster, more accurate assessment and lifetime tracking of concussions to empower parents and coaches to make informed decisions about their young athletes’ future health.”

The company has engaged Medical Funding Professionals (MFP), a registered investment advisor firm, to guide them through the process, following their Capital Planning Valuation Strategy™ (CPVS). MFP CEO Stephen Brock explains:

“This stepping stone approach offers multiple advantages for the company and investors,” says Brock. “The current Reg D 506(c) offering will provide EyeMarker Systems capital to begin the regulatory process and further develop its business model and processes such as brand awareness and financial reporting. After achieving certain milestones, the intended subsequent Regulation A+ offering would fund the completion of the regulatory process and their go-to-market strategy, with the added advantage of significant exposure to potential customers and strategic partners, as well as a broader base of potential investors.”

“A potential future Regulation A+ offering also provides an incentive for early-stage investors in a Reg D 506(c) offering who may be looking to monetize a portion of their investment as the company grows and achieves certain milestones,” Brock explains. “Regulation A+ allows shareholders to sell a limited amount of their shares subject to state Blue Sky laws and other requirements. All of that while EyeMarker System’s principals retain control of their company when following our CPVS.”

The Rule 506(c) offering consists of up to 1,000,000 shares priced at $4.00 per share, for a total of up to $4 million. Purchasers must be accredited investors and meet certain SEC verification requirements for validation of their “accredited investor” status. For additional details of the offering, visit https://EyeMarkerSystems.com/investors.

Adding Dental And Vision Benefits To Medicare More Popular With Americans Than Lowering The Age Of Eligibility To 60 According to MedicarePlanTips.com Survey

Almost 75% of Americans surveyed are in favor of expanding Medicare to cover dental, vision and hearing aids.

A strong majority of Americans are in favor of expanding Medicare. But a recent study by MedicarePlanTips.com found that adding benefits like dental, vision and hearing aids is more popular than lowering the age of eligibility from 65 to 60.

73% of respondents replied yes when asked if they were in favor of expanding Medicare to include coverage for dental, vision and hearing aids. That’s compared to just 10% who replied no. 17% responded that they had no opinion.

A clear majority was also in favor of lowering that age of eligibility from 65 to 60. In this case, 60% replied yes compared to 19% who replied no. While 21% had no opinion.

The age of the respondent made a significant difference in response to the age question. For those 65 and over, only 36% were in favor of lowering the age of eligibility. The same percentage, 36%, were opposed to lowering the age while 25% had no opinion.

However, for those in the 50 – 64 age range, 65% were in favor of dropping the eligibility age from 65 to 60. This is compared to 18% who were opposed and 17% who had no opinion.

When asked about why Medicare should include additional services such as dental and vision, respondents had two common themes in their responses.

Many share the belief that vision, dental and hearing are an important part of people’s overall health and should be covered. And many also think these services are too expensive for a lot of seniors to afford without Medicare coverage.

As one respondent put it “These things will make people’s quality of life better, and many people go without these things or suffer from severe problems because Medicare doesn’t cover these issues.”

For those opposed to covering these services, the main reason came down to money. Said one “Medicare is already stretched to the breaking point without adding more coverage.”

Similarly, those opposed to lowering the age of eligibility also cited cost as the main reason they were not in favor of lowering the age requirement from 65 to 60. Some were also concerned that it would make people want to retire sooner.

For those in favor of dropping the age of eligibility to 60, one respondent summed things up this way, “Lowering the Medicare eligibility age would not only be life-changing for at least 23 million people, it would also be life-saving for so many people across America who would eventually be able to get the care they need and they deserve.”

MedicarePlanTips.com collected 1474 responses to this survey. To get more details on the survey, visit https://medicareplantips.com/medicareplantips-com-survey-results/

About MedicarePlanTips.com

MedicarePlanTips.com was founded with a simple goal… to help people understand Medicare. What it is. How it works. What it covers.

We created the website to lay out this information as clearly as possible and in plain English (with no confusing medical and/or bureaucratic jargon).

We also realize the Internet may not be the best place for many to get the information they need about Medicare. So the site also features a free search on our site so you can easily find local Medicare resources near you.

Our site is completely independent from Medicare and is not affiliated with the program in any way. Nor are we owned or operated by an insurance company or a company that sells leads to insurance companies.

We’re just regular folks who have been frustrated with the confusing Medicare system and are trying to create the resource we’d like for ourselves to help navigate the world of Medicare. We hope you find the information on this helpful as you navigate the world of Medicare plans, coverage and more.

Invistics Helps Hospitals and Health Systems Track Theft of Non-Controlled Substances

News Image

“Enabling healthcare organizations to track and prevent the diversion of controlled substances has been a top priority for us for many years, but we know that high-value, non-controlled substances are also a major risk factor and can significantly impact hospital finances,” said Tom Knight, CEO of I

Invistics, the leading provider of advanced inventory visibility and analytics software, today announced that hospitals and health systems will be able to use its software to track both controlled and non-controlled substances. The addition of non-controlled substances will help healthcare organizations prevent the diversion of high-value drugs including medications that treat cancer, HIV, and other serious illnesses.

“Enabling healthcare organizations to track and prevent the diversion of controlled substances has been a top priority for us for many years, but we know that high-value, non-controlled substances are also a major risk factor and can significantly impact hospital finances,” said Tom Knight, CEO of Invistics. “With the cost of prescription drugs continuing to increase, hospitals can’t afford the loss of expensive medications. We’re taking active steps in reducing that loss with the help of our machine learning software.”

The theft of high-value, non-narcotic drugs is harder to detect because the drugs are not controlled substances. Additionally, a recent survey conducted by Porter Research and commissioned by Invistics found that 47% of healthcare executives felt that staffing changes due to COVID-19 made it more challenging to prevent drug diversion.

“Hospitals and health systems looking to reduce financial loss should seriously consider improving their drug diversion programs to better detect diversion of all drugs, including both controlled and non-controlled substances,” said Russ Nix, founder of Aegis RX. “We’re seeing more people with financial motivations to steal drugs — due to financial pressure experienced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the increasing costs of healthcare, or something else. Hospitals don’t have to accept the loss, they can take steps to detect and prevent theft of these high-value drugs.”

About Invistics

Invistics is the leading provider of cloud-based software solutions for healthcare inventory visibility, providing advanced analytics and actionable insights for hospitals and health systems who want to detect and prevent drug diversion. Invistics’ solution, called Flowlytics®, tracks the movement of drugs across the complex supply chain – from the time they are shipped from the wholesaler to a healthcare facility, then each time drugs are moved throughout the hospital and administered to patients. Atlanta-based Invistics Corporation also provides inventory visibility for manufacturers, distributors, re-packagers and controlled substance registrants, helping to reduce inventory costs and compliance risks within a single facility or across the extended enterprise. Military-Transition.org joins with USAA and USO to deliver free military transition book this Veterans Day

Veterans and military families should think about what follows their service when they put on the uniform since decisions while serving will impact their future lives. This book was written to ensure they’re aware of the challenges and are able to begin planning early in their careers.

The transition back into civilian life can be difficult for military members. To assist, MilitaryTransition.org developed a guidebook to help service members and their families understand and navigate their future transitions. Together with USAA (United Services Automobile Association) and USO (United Service Organizations | uso.org/transitions), they will deliver the guidebook starting this Veterans Day to help show their support for the military community.

Author and Air Force veteran, Brian Niswander, says, “Veterans and military families should think about what follows their service when they put on the uniform since decisions while serving will impact their future lives. This book was written to ensure they’re aware of the challenges and are able to begin planning early in their careers.”

The 20-page book titled “Truths about the Military Transition” provides lessons from two-decades of research across the military and veteran communities. Key lessons or transition truths include:

  • Every service member will transition
  • You are responsible for your own transition
  • The process can be stressful and confusing
  • Understanding and preparation are essential
  • Everyone has a different experience
  • The best lessons come from those with experience
  • Some veterans aren’t ready
  • Most hiring managers aren’t veterans
  • Compensation is different outside of the military
  • Patience and persistence are required

The book will be available online for download at military-transition.org/ebooks and at select USO transition facilities later this month. Military members, veterans and families can also request a copy via mail by visiting military-transition.org/freebook.

“Last year was truly unchartered territory, and that shaped the way everyone, even physicians, went about their lives. With cases rising daily, there was a lot of apprehension in regard to living in densely populated areas,” said Nathan Miller, Chief Executive Officer at The Medicus Firm.

The Medicus Firm, a national healthcare recruitment firm, released today its 18th annual “Provider Practice & Relocation Preference Survey” to assess providers’ practice and geographical location preferences in a COVID-19 environment.

This survey, conducted in August 2021, had more than 1,200 physicians and advanced practice provider professionals in a variety of specialties respond.

Compared to 2019, the 2020 report found a 20 percent increase in the desire of healthcare providers preference in a rural community over a city, with an 18 percent decrease in preference in 2021. The Medicus Firm believes this is connected to pandemic-induced behavior of the desire to be living in a less populated environment and the increase interest in providing telehealth in 2020.

“Last year was truly unchartered territory, and that shaped the way everyone, even physicians, went about their lives. With cases rising daily, there was a lot of apprehension in regard to living in densely populated areas,” said Nathan Miller, Chief Executive Officer at The Medicus Firm. “Now that we’ve adapted to a pandemic-sensitive lifestyle, we’re seeing geographic preference level out with the increase in demand for healthcare services and more opportunities available in larger cities,” said Miller.

Other notable findings from the survey reflected the effect of the shut down and result of elective cases being put on hold, limiting an anticipated income increase in 2021. Those findings include:

  • 52% stated they did not have quality or value-based income in 2020.
  • 20% of respondents stated Covid-19 would limit income in 2021.
  • 79% of respondents stated that 0-10% of their 2020 income came from telehealth.

“As the pandemic and its aftermath continues, many physicians had expectations of a compensation increase in 2021 due to the rise in patient volumes with Covid-19,” said Jacob Simon, Chief Operations Officer at The Medicus Firm. “On the other side of the pandemic’s effects, burnout is a real issue for physicians. In a survey we conducted earlier this year, it was found that 57 percent of provider respondents considered changing employers in the last 12 months due to burnout and 35 percent said that burnout is a primary factor of early retirement. That’s a scary reality,” said Simon.
