Burning Tree Programs, the nation’s leading provider for addiction treatment, announced today the hiring of Joshua New, LCSW, as the Clinical Director of Burning Tree West in Tucson, Arizona.

Joshua brings more than 15 years of experience to Burning Tree Programs, most recently having served as Executive Director for Buena Vista Health & Recovery Centers. Joshua previously held positions as a Primary Therapist at Burning Tree Ranch in Kaufman, Texas, and as Executive Director at Burning Tree West in Tucson, Ariz.

“I am happy to welcome Joshua back home to Burning Tree,” said Peter Piriano, LMSW, LCDC, Chief Executive Officer for Burning Tree Programs. “Knowing our clients will continue to receive clinical care in excellence under Joshua’s leadership secures the future of Burning Tree West as we continue to grow and expand our programming.”

As the clinical director, Joshua will oversee the development and implementation of outpatient treatment services, in addition to supervising case managers, therapists, office managers and other staff members. He will also assist with family programs and day-to-day compliance initiatives. With an advanced certification in addiction studies, Joshua will be able to provide individualized care to clients with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.

“Joshua’s personal experience getting sober as a young adult, combined with his extensive professional experience providing excellent clinical care, will lead to his success in his new role at Burning Tree West,” said Anthony Marengo, Executive Director of Burning Tree West. “I am incredibly grateful to welcome him back to our team, and we look forward to carrying on Burning Tree’s tradition of providing a life of excellence beyond sobriety for young adults.”

As a long-term, successful recovering addict, Joshua leads with personal experience in any position he fulfills. In his early adulthood, Joshua was a chronic relapser who did not benefit from short-term recovery programs. Following a year-long rehabilitation program in California, Joshua began building healthy relationships and started listening to the support of others to help him maintain sobriety. He attributes his recovery success to connecting with other people, a strong family foundation and God.

“Joshua symbolizes the hope we share for our young adults at Burning Tree West,” said Brook McKenzie, LCDCI, Chief Operating Officer for Burning Tree Programs. “Our clients and families will be engaging a clinical director who shares a personal history of getting sober as a young adult, which brings us incredible joy.”

With the transition, former Executive Director for Burning Tree West, Matthew LeBeau, is moving on to pursue his dream of working at a university hospital system. Growing up in an academic family, Matthew has always enjoyed academia and the environment of higher learning. He looks forward to having the opportunity to further his graduate education while working as a therapist at one of the leading academic medical centers in the country, the University of Florida Health Recovery Center at Shands Hospital. Burning Tree Programs has and will always remain a personal and professional part of his journey.

Morgan Pressel Foundation’s 15th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament at St. Andrews Country Club Raises $500,000 for Breast Cancer Research

[ad_1]

Morgan Pressel (in pink shirt holding check) surrounded by LPGA pros and Morgan Pressel Foundation Committee celebrating $500,000 raised at 15th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament.

The success of this event is credited largely to the community of St. Andrews, the professional golfers who donate their time, and our sponsors – all of who believe in our efforts to eradicate breast cancer.

The Morgan Pressel Foundation’s 15th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament to fight breast cancer raised $500,000, increasing the tournament’s 15-year total to $10 million. Pressel’s fellow members at St. Andrews Country Club generously contribute funds through sponsorships, tournament play and a virtual auction. LPGA Tour stars were the highlight of the one-day event; they included Azahara Munoz, Juli Inkster, Lexi Thompson, Brittany Lincicome, Gerina Piller, Brooke Henderson, and Patty Tavatanakit.

The day kicked off with a morning golf session of platinum donors playing nine holes with an LPGA pro. Following a casual barbeque lunch 200 golfers headed out for competitive tournament play on the Club’s Fazio II and Palmer courses. The event capped off with a private dinner and silent and live auctions.

The annual tournament is a tribute to Morgan’s mother, the late Kathryn Krickstein Pressel, who lost her battle to breast cancer when Morgan was only 15. The Morgan Pressel Foundation supports the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Morgan Pressel Center for Cancer Genetics facility at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The mammovan that boasts the same high-tech equipment used by most hospitals was on display at the driving range, lending a prominent backdrop to the day’s events. The Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan makes mammogram screening more accessible by bringing breast cancer screening to areas throughout Palm Beach County.

“The success of this event is credited largely to the community of St. Andrews, the professional golfers who donate their time, and our sponsors – all of who believe in our efforts to eradicate breast cancer. The money we raise each year supports patient care and research,” said Morgan Pressel. “Over the past 15 years we have accomplished so much to help in the cause to end breast cancer. Without the substantial support of everyone involved, this would not be possible, and I am forever thankful for the support of my fellow members, my LPGA friends, and the dedicated sponsors that participate year after year.”

St. Andrews Country Club Board of Governors President Artie Grossbard added, “For the past 15 years the membership of St. Andrews has been honored to support this annual event, each year rallying together to raise a substantial amount of funds during this tournament. Morgan, the Morgan Pressel Foundation Committee and our St. Andrews staff once again delivered an outstanding event with the meaningful outcome.”

“This is my sixth year overseeing this first-class golf tournament and fund-raising effort and the impact of the Morgan Pressel Foundation on the community is inspiring. I am very proud of Morgan, her committee and the St. Andrews Country Club members who join together to fight breast cancer,” said Rick Dente, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at St. Andrews Country Club. “I also want to thank our dedicated team of professionals who deliver a perfectly executed tournament event, year after year, and help make the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament a resounding success.”

The Safeguarding Company and Operation Breakthrough Partner to Support Students’ Mental Health and Wellbeing

[ad_1]

News Image

“It’s incredibly important we effectively support our students beyond academics,” said Mary Esselman, President and CEO of Operation Breakthrough.

The Safeguarding Company, provider of software and training to systemically protect students’ wellbeing, announces a partnership with Operation Breakthrough Inc., a nonprofit organization in Kansas City, which provides a safe, loving and educational environment for children in poverty and empowers their families through advocacy, financial assistance and education.

Together, the two organizations are supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing with MyConcern, The Safeguarding Company’s software tool that makes it simple for all staff to securely and privately record wellbeing concerns about students, and submit supporting evidence. MyConcern modernizes outdated and ineffective methods like sticky notes, paper files or even informal conversations to track concerns about students and enables private and secure asynchronous collaboration both within schools and between teachers and administrators, district personnel and outside agencies.

When students face social emotional and mental health challenges, trauma, abuse and hardships, they risk limiting their academic progress. Safeguarding proactively addresses these risks—setting education leaders up to effectively manage students’ non-academic needs.

“It’s incredibly important we effectively support our students beyond academics,” said Mary Esselman, President and CEO of Operation Breakthrough. “With MyConcern, we’ve created almost an ‘online huddle’ where each adult working with a student can share patterns and trends in the student’s behaviors with others who work with the student, providing a complete view of the student’s mental health and wellbeing. This is something we could not have done efficiently and effectively before.”

Students’ mental health and wellbeing are top of mind for educators right now. According to a recent article from NPR, there were more than 47,000 mental health visits to emergency departments at 38 children’s hospitals around the country in the first three quarters of 2021—nearly 40% higher than the same period in 2020. And the situation has worsened in recent months.

Schools that have implemented MyConcern experience a significant increase in supporting student needs because of the data collected about students’ wellbeing. Staff and teachers can submit concerns through a trusted and secure system with assurance that the student’s case will be properly managed. MyConcern creates a redacted audit trail related to each concern and student case so that administrators have ready access to documentation as needed.

“With the stressors caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, students are dealing with a lot right now—from losing loved ones to worries around school violence,” said Martin Baker, CEO of The Safeguarding Company. “The educators at Operation Breakthrough have done an incredible job supporting their students and MyConcern only increases their impact.”

About The Safeguarding Company

The Safeguarding Company provides software and training solutions that support administrators, teachers and staff in implementing Safeguarding practices. These practices increase the wellbeing of students by reducing the impact of social emotional and mental health challenges, trauma, abuse and other non-academic concerns. Effective Safeguarding practice enables education leaders to identify problems before they arise, deal with concerns more effectively and build a network of support that protects students. As schools practice Safeguarding, MyConcern is the software tool that administrators, teachers and staff use to securely record wellbeing concerns about students. With Safeguarding, administrators can holistically and collaboratively support a student’s wellbeing and take preventative action as needed. Brandon’s primary goal is to impart attendees with a robust understanding of the USP 1207 Method Selection process. By the end of the seminar, attendees will understand the following:

  • That not all CCI technologies are suitable for every use-case.
  • How the lifecycle approach is implemented to reduce risk and increase knowledge of the product-package system (package integrity profile).

  • That multiple technologies may be used based upon the specific products, packages, and lifecycle stages to be considered (the toolbox approach).
