‘The science behind acupuncture,’ a report from San Luis Obispo’s Intuitive Acupuncture

[ad_1]

acupuncture San Luis Obispo

The effectiveness of acupuncture has been shown to be the result of allowing the body to release naturally produced opioid and non-opiod neuropeptides that play a role in cellular function in the limbic and central nervous systems.

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that was first documented in China during the Ming Dynasty. Some anthropologists believe there is evidence that a form of primitive acupuncture was used during Neolithic times. Despite, or maybe because of, its ancient roots, the effectiveness of modern-day acupuncture is being supported by scientific research. Intuitive Acupuncture in San Luis Obispo has summarized some of the most recent studies that help explain why acupuncture is effective for helping with so many conditions.

Although acupuncture has been around for a very long time, it only started gaining popularity in the United States following former president, Richard Nixon’s, visit to China in the 1970s. Since then, the practice has become so accepted in the United States to the point it is now covered by many medical insurance plans and by Medicare since January 2020.

Stringent training is required to become a licensed acupuncturist and many licensed acupuncturists are also educated with degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Today, acupuncture is practiced in pain management, dentistry, veterinary medicine, as well as for a wide range of human medical and emotional circumstances.

Two thorough summaries of the science that makes acupuncture a highly-effective science-based treatment for a variety of conditions that are recommended by the San Luis Obispo acupuncture clinic are:

  • Exploring the Science of Acupuncture,” a November 2021 article by Catherine Caruso that was published in the Harvard Medical School News and Research. Caruso reports that a team of Harvard Medical School neuroscientists have discovered that acupuncture, especially electro-acupuncture, is especially effective at stimulating the molecular messengers known as cytokines that help regulate inflammatory responses. Cytokines are part of the immune system and also regulate the body’s response to disease and infection by communicating with receptors on certain cells. In studies conducted on the hindlimbs of mice, the team discovered that acupuncture was effective in areas where cytokines are present and responding to inflammation from injury, disease, or infection.
  • Acupuncture: An Overview of Scientific Evidence,” a ground-breaking summary of scientific research of acupuncture by Mel Hopper Koppelman, DAc, MSc for the research group, Evidence Based Acupuncture. Koppelman’s report summarizes and cites a wide range of science-based research studies.

The effectiveness of acupuncture has been shown to be the result of allowing the body to release naturally produced opioid neuropeptides along with non-opioid neuropeptides that play a role in cellular function in the limbic and central nervous systems. Research demonstrates that acupuncture can directly initiate a process called purinergic signaling, a primitive signaling system in the body that communicates with and regulates all the tissues and organs in the body. Purinergic signaling plays a central role in headaches, including migraines, inflammation, most diseases including cancer, autism, Alzheimer’s and even the development of the embryo. When the release and distribution of neuropeptides and other neurotransmitters become balanced, the limbic and nervous systems as well as the brain, become able to function at a healthier level.

The licensed acupuncturists at San Luis Obispo’s Intuitive Acupuncture have 19 years of combined experience to help their patients recover from illness and injury and improve health and well-being. The combination of Kristo Kucaric and Johathan Olcott’s life experiences, training and education is the foundation for their integrated, patient-centered care.

Serving the Central Coast since 2013, their goal is to help their patients recover from chronic pain and health issues that include:

  • Back pain and musculoskeletal pain.
  • Migraines, and other headaches.
  • Gastrointestinal issues.
  • Stress and anxiety.
  • Women’s health issues.
  • Men’s health issues.
  • Allergies and asthma.
  • Addictions, including smoking.

Stonk Tech Launches Free App Providing Extra Support To Retail Investors

[ad_1]

Making it possible for everyone to trade freely is only the first step in liberating the secondary market, the second comes down to gearing retail traders up with knowledge, a toolbox, and support from veterans. And that’s what we are doing here at Stonk.

Stonk Tech Inc., the leading platform that supports and guides retail traders across their investment journey, is excited to announce the launch of the Stonk app.

Stonk was designed with socialization and information sharing at the core of the product, so retail investors can easily access all the collected wisdom from the community, tools, information, and markets free of charge. Co-Founders of Stonk, Mike Wu, Lic Zhou, and Marc Chen know that the institutional trader’s executions are usually powered by a huge support team including, but not limited to an equity researcher, risk analyst, quantitative engineer, and tech support. Most retail investors don’t have any of that, and the imbalance of resources makes this an unfair game for them.

“With the rise of commission-free trading in the past years, access to the secondary market is no longer a roadblock for everyday investors. However, with the inflow of new investors and beginner traders, lack of access to tools, information, and communication became the new problem. Making it possible for everyone to trade freely is only the first step in liberating the secondary market, the second comes down to gearing retail traders up with knowledge, a toolbox, and support from veterans. And that’s what we are doing here at Stonk; let’s trade smarter, together,” stated Co-founder Mike Wu.

Lack of help and support isn’t the only issue; not enough infrastructure, such as tools and access to different markets makes it difficult for retail traders to outperform traditional institutions. Many strategies run by institutions and funds require exposure to many different markets such as equity, bonds, forex, and sometimes even costumed derivatives from market makers at the same time. Access to resources, like a simple option trade scanner, or dark pool orders, could easily cost a retail investor 150$ a month. So, to make this game fairer to everyday investors, the Co-Founders of Stonk liberate the retail investing market and finish what Robinhood has failed to do.

“We thought that the only way a retail investor could get the same amount of help as institutional traders do is through other retail investors. Working together and being each other’s support team is the only way out of this imbalanced match, and that is the reason we made socialization and sharing information the core of our product” expressed Co-founder Lic Zhou.

Stonk is committed to leveling the playing field, by providing retail traders the information they need to compete against legacy investors. No one wants to enter a contest with one arm tied behind their back; the Stonk Tech App ‘unties the arm’ of the retail trading market.

“We provide many professional tools to our users for free because the idea of being charged a few hundred bucks for the data that retail investors have also helped to contribute does not really make sense to me,” declared Co-founder Marc Chen.

Stonk Tech Inc. main features focus on sharing knowledge and support:

  • Social media designed for everyday investors and traders: See and understand other traders and investors’ behavior, why they buy or sell. Connect, interact and ask questions via live streams and subscriptions.
  • Investing and trading Bootcamp with experts in your hand: Free video and live streaming by all types of trading experts, for you to find your role model to become the type of trader or investor that you want to be.
  • Professional trading tools made it easy and free for retail investors: Free dark pool and options flow access, which instantly will help you to save hundreds of dollars. Zero commission for stock and options trading coming soon!

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Launches English, Spanish Versions of 2nd Volume of Successful Latinx/e in Social Work; 23 social workers share challenges, successes

[ad_1]

News Image

“Countless people have told me how they finally saw themselves reflected in a social work text and how meaningful it was to have their experiences validated throughout the book.”

New York-based CEO and Founder of Latinx In Social Work Inc. Erica P. Sandoval, LCSW, is continuing to educate readers on the importance of having Latinx/e social workers helping clients in their communities with the launch of her new anthology “Latinx/e in Social Work Vol. II.”

Published by Fig Factor Media, “Latinx/e In Social Work Vol. II” features 23 authors from the social work field presenting their stories, challenges, and successes while navigating their careers and serving their communities. Recently, Sandoval and the new authors presented their stories during a special book launch in New York City.

“The authenticity of our stories in Volume II will allow readers to process their own journeys and feel supported,” Sandoval said. “The book has also allowed us to create a mentorship network and connect social workers from different industries. This kind of networking hasn’t been done before but is desperately needed.”

Sandoval knows that this book and the one launched last year – “Latinx in Social Work” – resonated with many readers who sent her positive responses.

“Countless people have told me how they finally saw themselves reflected in a social work text and how meaningful it was to have their experiences validated throughout the book,” she said. “When the book was released, we were a No. 1 bestseller in Amazon’s social work category. Schools of social work have clamored to include the book in their curricula. We were thrilled to collaborate with the New York University Silver School of Social Work on a discussion series about racial discrimination within social work and the importance of mentorship, which more than 1,000 people attended.”

Volume II authors are the following:

  • Ernest Gonzales, PhD, MSSW
  • Leticia L. Cavazos, DSW, LMSW
  • Anderson Torres, Ph.D., LCSW-R
  • Virgen Luce ACSW, LCSW-R, MSW, BA
  • Olga Preciado, LMSW
  • Budy J. Whitfield, LCSW
  • Basiliso Moreno, LMSW
  • Harleny Vasquez, LMSW, SIFI
  • Monika C. Estrada Guzman, BSW, LMSW, SIFI
  • Elizabeth Conde, LMSW, SIFI
  • Yaberci Perez-Cubillan, LCSW-R
  • Rosita L. Marinez, MS-NPL, ADV-CSW, MSW, SIFI
  • Jean Carlos Osorio, LCSW-R,CDBT, SIFI
  • Emilio Tavarez, MSW
  • Giselle Rodriguez, LCSW
  • Julissa Vasquez, LCSW SIFI
  • Antonio Morales, LCSW
  • Karen Conlon, LCSW CCATP
  • Carolyn Peguero Spencer, MA, LCSW, BC-TMH, PhD (c)
  • Kevin Caraballo Barrios, LMSW
  • Gisselle Pardo, LCSW, MPH
  • Dianne Morales, MS, EdM
  • Erica P. Sandoval, LCSW-SIFI

Sandoval added that she has generously donated 100% of the retail proceeds of Volume I to Latino Coalition Scholarship Fund Inc. for scholarships for Latinx/e students pursuing their Master of Social Work degrees. Since the first book, she has donated $5,000 to help these students with tuition and licensing exam fees.

Sandoval explained there is an important need for Latinx/e social workers.

“According to a Pew Research Center statistic, the US Latinx/e population is up from 62.5 million in 2021 from 50.5 million in 2010, making us one of the fastest-growing demographics,” she explained. “However, the number of Latinx/e social workers is not nearly proportionate to our share of the population. On top of that, there are still several barriers to accessing mental health for the Latinx/e community, from lack of linguistically appropriate service (only 5% of licensed US therapists provide services in Spanish, according to the American Psychological Association) to the lack of access to health insurance (20% of Latinx/e folks don’t have health insurance, per Mental Health America). More than 10 million Latinx/e folks reported having a mental health illness, and only 34% of them receive treatment, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Sometimes mental health treatment is something not talked about openly and could be seen as a weakness. Let’s open up a discussion about mental health and raise awareness.”

Enthusiastically supporting Sandoval and the authors is the president of the Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund, Luisa Lopez.

“I am thrilled at the publication of the second volume of ‘Latinx/e in Social Work’ and know that just like volume one, this book will have a major impact on generations of social workers to come,” said Lopez. “We are honored to have been selected to be the recipient of the donations, which will go a long way in ensuring that there is a vibrant and robust pipeline of Latinx/e social work students ready and able to serve in our most vulnerable communities. I thank Erica Sandoval for her generosity, and all the excellent authors for authentically sharing their stories for the benefit of the future of social work.”

“Latinx/e In Social Work Vol. II” is available for purchase on Amazon. A recording of the virtual launch can be viewed here.

Gilead Sciences, Inc. Is Partnering with the ISPE Foundation to Establish a New Technology Without Borders Initiative

[ad_1]

“My vision is to make the technology and information accessible and work with the key stakeholders in these regions so there is an ecosystem of people who can help support the further development and implementation of this knowledge,” said Antonio Moreira, 2022-2024 ISPE Foundation Board Chair.

The ISPE Foundation announced Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Gilead) is partnering with the Foundation to establish a new Technology Without Borders initiative. This new program was created to fill a critical gap in the availability of ISPE’s Guidance Documents and the necessary training to adopt this guidance into practice in countries where socioeconomic conditions or language barriers may otherwise limit access.

Gilead’s generous support of the Technology Without Borders program will be applied towards the translation of biotechnology-relevant ISPE Guidance Documents and delivery of the respective technical training to the local workforce, academia, and key stakeholders in Brazil. ISPE International will fully manage the dissemination of all Guidance Documents and deliver all training.

“A capable and skilled workforce is required for medicines developed by the pharmaceutical industry across the globe and the ever-advancing technologies used in their development. Often, they need access to Guidance Documents, training, and information in various languages, facilitating the transmission of this knowledge,” said Antonio Moreira, Vice-Provost, Academic Affairs, University of Maryland, Baltimore County and the 2022-2024 ISPE Foundation Board Chair. “My vision for the Technology Without Borders program is to not only make the technology and information accessible but then to work with the key stakeholders in these regions so there is an ecosystem of highly skilled people who can help support the further development and implementation of this knowledge.”

“Gilead is committed to bringing transformative medicines to patients worldwide and is pleased to partner with the ISPE Foundation on the Technology Without Borders initiative to support these efforts,” said Joydeep Ganguly, Senior Vice President of Corporate Operations at Gilead Sciences. “Educational equity and knowledge exchange are critical to the success of the pharmaceutical industry. We are delighted to partner with ISPE on a program that enables broad access to core engineering standards and best practices, making them more readily available in emerging economy markets.”
