In the past, many people might have eaten a meal and felt groggy or lethargic later, but that was all we knew. This technology allows consumers to test how nutrition and diet directly impact the way we feel even days later. -Henrik Torstensson, CEO of Lifesum

The nutrition app, Lifesum has collaborated with Amazon on Amazon Halo, which allows consumers to test over time how specific foods directly impact their health and wellness. It’s all part of the new Amazon Halo Labs. In the Lifesum labs for Amazon Halo, each lab helps members understand how their nutritional habits impact other areas of their life, such as their body composition and sleeping patterns.

The CEO of Lifesum, Henrik Torstensson, says this new technology can help consumers connect the relationship between diet and sleep.

“This is the future of health and wellness technology and we are excited to work with Amazon on this new application in the wellness space,” says Torstensson. “In the past, many people might have eaten a meal and felt groggy or lethargic later, but that was all we knew. This technology allows consumers to test how nutrition and diet directly impact the way we feel even days later.”

Lifesum is introducing interactive nutritional challenges and health content in the Amazon Halo app, enabling users see how their nutrition may impact their mind, body, and overall well-being.

The in-house registered dietitian for Lifesum, Kajsa Ernestam, says their challenges and health content are designed to bring long-lasting behavioral change that will improve the overall health of consumers.

“Nutrition is always individualized by the person – there is no one diet or routine that fits everyone,” said Ernestam. “Together, Lifesum and Amazon Halo are helping users find the health and nutritional approach that works best for them.”

Melissa Cha, Vice President of Amazon Halo, says new collaboration with Lifesum gives consumers the opportunity to connect their nutrition to how they feel.

“Nutrition is a critical part of any health and wellness journey, so we are excited to offer Amazon Halo members labs from Lifesum’s team of experts,” said Cha. “Together, we will help customers discover what works best for them based on their individual needs.”

How Technology Helps Consumers Improve their Health

Amazon Halo Labs are 1-4 week challenges or experiments that help members discover healthier habits that work for them. Currently, Halo members will have access to 10 Lifesum-developed labs, which will guide them through simple, trackable nutrition-focused challenges that test the impact small changes can have on their health over time.

Each Lifesum Lab is backed by science and ranges in length from one to four weeks. For example, cutting down on ultra-processed foods – like candy, fast food and potato chips – can improve a person’s body composition and reduce a person’s risk for lifestyle-related diseases. Through the Halo app, members are encouraged to replace these ultra-processed foods with lean protein, complex carbs, healthy fats and lots of greens. At the end of the lab, members are able to see how their health metrics changed after this behavior shift.

In addition to labs from Lifesum, Amazon Halo members can choose from more than 100 science-backed labs created by health, mind, body and social life experts, helping users feel their best.

Amazon Halo is a new service dedicated to helping customers improve their individual health and wellness. It is anchored by a mobile app and an accompanying wrist band. With Amazon Halo, members can track their Activity and Sleep, analyze their Body composition and tone of voice, and discover labs that work best for them personally.
