The National Lung Cancer Roundtable (NLCRT) has expanded its portal of resources to help Americans fight lung cancer. Efrén J. This year more than 220,000 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer. More than 140,000 will die of the disease — more than will die from breast, colon and prostate cancer combined. Please know that:

  • Anyone can get lung cancer. 65% of people newly diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or are former smokers. 20% have no history of tobacco use at all.
  • If you smoke, talk to your doctor to get support to stop smoking. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer.
  • Lung cancer was once considered a terminal diagnosis, but today new treatments are improving survival for many patients.
  • If you are a current or former smoker – ages 55-to-80 – talk to your health care provider about getting an annual lung cancer screening exam. This low-dose C-T or “CAT” scan is the only test proven to significantly reduce lung cancer deaths and is covered by Medicare and private insurance for those who qualify.
