Helping to raise awareness for the World Tuberculosis Day effort amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Mediaplanet today announces the launch of its first-ever “Tuberculosis Awareness” campaign. This editorial feature will educate healthcare professionals and the public on the devastating effects tuberculosis still has on lives and economies around the world.

The digital campaign features a collection of articles written by expert contributors, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Lung Association, and the National TB Controllers Association. The articles, which can be found at: https://www.futureofpersonalhealth.com/campaign/infectious-diseases/ are distributed nationally through a vast social media strategy and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets.

In his submitted editorial, Philip LoBue, M.D., FACP, FCCP, director of the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination at the CDC, releases new data and shares the CDC’s plan to support TB elimination. “To accelerate progress towards elimination, CDC supports a dual approach that includes diagnosing and treating every case of TB disease, and preventing future cases by expanding testing and treatment for people with latent TB infection (LTBI),” writes LoBue.

Dr. Albert Rizzo, chief medical officer of the American Lung Association, urges people to take the same precautions to prevent TB as coronavirus and other respiratory infections. “Since TB is a respiratory infection, the way to prevent infection is to follow the tried and true recommendations that should be followed for any respiratory infection that is transmitted by aerosol or droplets from cough or sneeze,” Rizzo writes. “Avoid being around known sick individuals. Frequent hand-washing with soap and water especially after contacting surfaces or other individuals (i.e., handshaking). Avoid touching your mouth, nose, eyes, or face in general with unwashed hands.”

This campaign was made possible with the support of the CDC, WHO, National TB Controllers Association, American Lung Association, and Oxford Immunotec.
