The preceding events (April 2 and June 17), endured record attendance and this conference aims to yield the same audience enthusiasm and excellent participation. A powerful lineup of well-renowned speakers will introduce important topics for discussion including, Coronaviruses: History, Biology and Innate Immune Antagonism, purification of cells from SARS-CoV-2 convalescent samples and potentially infectious materials with fluorescent-activated cell sorting, host and viral transcriptomes during COVID-19 infection, antibody therapy against SARS-CoV-2: a global collaboration, repurposing in COVID-19: can we identify new antivirals, ultra-fast one step RT-PCR protocol for the detection of SARS-CoV-2, and insights into SARS-CoV-2 biology rounding out just a few of the highlighted presentations.

Kicking off the day, Ashish K. Jha, M.D, M.P.H., Dean, Brown University School of Public Health will deliver a keynote address: “The American Response to COVID-19: what went right, what went wrong,” to understand the role of the US federal government in testing and other disease containment strategies, and how the US federalism led to a diversity of responses and outcomes in this pandemic.

Jha will be joined by other impressive notable keynoters including:

Ali H. Mokdad, PhD, Chief Strategy Officer, Population Health, University of Washington – “IHME COVID-19 projections for the US: Strategies to reduce the spread.”

Sumit Chanda, PhD, Director & Professor, Immunity & Pathogenesis Program, Sandford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute – “Discovery of SARS-CoV-2 antivirals through large-scale repositioning studies.”

Jürgen A. Richt, DVM, PhD, Regents Distinguished Professor at KSU, University Distinguished Professor, Director – Center on Emerging & Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (CEZID), NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence – “SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility, transmission and reinfection in domestic cats.”

Nevan Krogan, PhD, Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, UCSF, Director of the Quantitative Bioscience Institute (QBI); and Jacqueline Fabius, Chief Operating Officer, QBI, panel discussion – “The formation of an International Collaborative Network to find COVID-19 Therapeutics.”
