HealthChampion Announces Inaugural Expert Advisory Board

The experts on our Advisory Board come from a variety of backgrounds – tech, clinical medical, entrepreneurial – each of which will provide valuable insight as we evolve to meet our users’ changing needs.

HealthChampion, a digital health analytics company and creator of the world’s first consumer-driven health platform, today announced the formation of its Advisory Board comprised of physicians, healthcare experts and technology innovators. The Advisory Board will serve to inform HealthChampion’s product development and business strategy as it accelerates its mission to empower users to improve their own health outcomes. The seven members of the Advisory Board include Dr. Joseph Donzelli (an otolaryngology specialist), John Flavin (co-founder of Pyxis Oncology), Cathy Kenworthy (founder of Health Hippo), Dr. Ari Levy (founder of SHIFT), Suzi Meschbach (EVP at IntellaTriage), Arti Pullins (founder of Pundit Consultantz) and Dr. Sapan Shah (Managing Partner of Alera Group’s HPL Division); brief bios for each are below.

Dr. Joseph Donzelli

Dr. Joseph Donzelli, MD is an otolaryngology (ear, nose & throat) specialist in Naperville, IL and has been practicing for 22 years. He views his role as a part of a care team to serve as an educator and director, and feels strongly that patients should be involved in the decision-making process. He attended The Chicago Medical School and completed his residency at Loyola University Medical Center, and is active in lecturing for continued medical education programs and Physician Assistant training. Joseph has been recognized as an AAO-HNS Fellow and has been featured as a Checkbook Top Doc and in West Suburban Living Magazine.

John Flavin

John Flavin, Founder & CEO of Portal Innovations is a seasoned life sciences entrepreneur and executive. Prior to forming Portal earlier this year to incubate and grow life sciences companies at Fulton Labs in Chicago, he was the CFO of Endotronix, a heart failure medtech company where he led the $70 million financing to advance the Cordella wireless sensor and remote management system in to pivotal clinical trials. In parallel, he co-founded as Chairman and led the $22 million series A financing for Pyxis Oncology, a biotech company developing antibody therapeutics to promote the body’s immune response to cancer based on new insights into the tumor microenvironment. Over his career, he has co-founded, taken public and scaled several life sciences companies as President and CFO such as Advanced Life Sciences and MediChem Life Sciences and has also co-founded and led transformative life sciences incubators including MATTER and the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago.

Cathy Kenworthy

Cathy Kenworthy recently founded Health Hippo on the belief that well-structured information has the power to transform entire industries, and it’s more than time for that transformation in healthcare. Cathy also serves as President of ConceiveAbilities, a fast-growing agency that has helped intended parents start families by matching them with gestational carriers and egg donors for the last 25 years. Additionally, Cathy serves on several boards, including on the Board of Managers for Ascension Ventures, a well-regarded investment fund that seeks innovative answers in healthcare; on the Board of Directors for Yenkin-Majestic Paint Corporation; Board of Directors for The Chicago Network where she is also leads the Programs Committee; Metropolitan Chicago Board of Directors for the American Heart Association; and on the Advisory Board for AFFIRM Research. Previously, Cathy was with Interactive Health, a provider of workplace wellness programs, from 2013-2018. In 2015, as CEO, Cathy led the company through a successful liquidity transaction on behalf of majority equity owner CI Capital. During Cathy’s leadership term, the company doubled in size and become more profitable. Cathy also has significant management and operating experience in financial services serving as an executive at JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and GE Capital and worked as a consultant with McKinsey and Company for six years.

Dr. Ari Levy

Dr. Ari Levy is the Founder & CEO OF SHIFT. He is in the business of helping people live better. Focused on the intersections of neuroscience, immune-physiology, and allostatic load (wear-and-tear on the body), his work and research is redefining the way we think about managing and building health and personal well-being. He believes that sustainable change to one’s health is within reach if the appropriate structure and plan are put in place. Ari earned his undergraduate degree in History and Sociology from Emory University, his MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and his MBA at the University of Chicago. He was featured in Crain’s 40 under 40 and by the Chicago Sun-Times for pairing medicine with fitness. He has spoken about fixing broken healthcare. Ari served as a member of the physician team for the Chicago Blackhawks during all three Stanley Cup seasons.

Suzi Meschbach

Suzi Meschbach’s career has centered on the healthcare industry at the intersection of service and technology. As a serial entrepreneur, she has founded and worked at several companies in the healthcare space. Once such company, IntellaTriage, consists of a network of nurses across the country who provide telehealth services to the homecare, hospice, and physician group markets. Suzi currently serves as Executive Vice President at IntellaTriage.

Arti Pullins

Arti Bedi Pullins is a strategic, data-driven entrepreneur with nearly 20 years of experience in business strategy, product innovation, digital marketing and end-to-end deployment. In 2017, she founded Pundit Consultantz, a healthcare innovation and creative services design consultancy. At the forefront of human-health thinking, Pundit combines consumer & patient centered design, product strategy development and business consulting to help organizations embrace emerging technology, in order to address their most complex business challenges. Arti partners with clients in the healthcare, medtech, emerging technologies and recruitment industries to drive innovation, define and execute strategic transformational plans, creating partnerships that allow for rapid expansion into new markets and channels. Prior to founding her business consultancy, Arti held senior leadership roles with SessionM, Glassdoor and CareerBuilder.com. She earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and communications from Michigan State University. Arti has been featured by Crain’s Chicago as one of the Notable Entrepreneurs of 2019.

Dr. Sapan Shah

Sapan Shah M.D., J.D. is the Managing Partner of Alera Group’s HPL Division and a Board Director of Alera Group, a national insurance and financial services firm. Sapan joined Alera in 2017 when Alera acquired Flagship Healthcare, which he co-founded in 2008. Being a physician and an attorney, Sapan has a unique perspective on medical professional liability issues and innovative business strategies in healthcare. Sapan is also an active Angel Investor in Hyde Park Angels (HPA) in Chicago, having invested in 40+ startups. He is also on the Board of Directors of Kaizen Health, a Board observer for Blueprint, and was previously a Board Director for Regroup therapy, all HPA healthcare portfolio companies. Sapan is admitted to the Illinois Bar and is also on the Board of Advisors for the Burke Neurological Institute in White Plains, NY. Sapan lives in Libertyville, IL with his wife, Rachna Shah, M.D., an allergist in private practice.
