CHESS Health Measures Record App Usage During COVID-19 Crisis

CHESS Health, the leading provider of addiction management technology, today announced record usage for its patient-facing Connections app during the COVID-19 pandemic and the release of its new functionality to support growing use of telehealth. Isolation caused by the need for social distancing has resulted in cancellations of in-person treatment programs and 12-Step recovery meetings on a national (and global) basis, leaving many without the connection and support needed to maintain healthy recovery and avoid life-threatening relapse.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic those struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) will be faced with new obstacles as they quarantine from jobs, friends and peers in recovery,” said Hans Morefield, chief executive officer of CHESS Health. “The Connections app offers digital access to support, peers, motivating content, and digital eTherapy necessary to keep SUD patients connected and confident in their recovery in this stressful time.”

Usage of the Connections app is up 150% week-over-week and new patient enrollment increased 34% during the same period. One individual shared: “I am loving this app. It’s very helpful to have all these great messages while I’m teleworking and at home!”

“Our new telehealth coordination and communication functionality addresses a challenge we’re hearing from providers using Zoom and Google Hangouts –how to best tell groups and individual patients about telehealth sessions without re-keying all of our patient data into a video platform, “explained Morefield. “Our customers already use CHESS to communicate with their groups and patients, including pushing appointments and reminders, so it was a natural extension for us to add functionality to help coordinate and communicate telehealth sessions through multiple channels.”
