Catholic App Hallow Passes 1 Million Downloads, Raises $40 Million Series B to Help Christians Around the World Find Peace

News Image

Every day we’re humbled by the support of everyone in the Hallow community and are incredibly excited about this next phase in Hallow’s mission.

Hallow, the #1 Catholic prayer and meditation app, today announces it has completed a $40 million Series B round to help people around the world find peace in God, bringing the total raised this year to over $50 million. Amid the growing embrace of technology in religion, and during a time when many are stressed and anxious about the world around them, Hallow has surpassed 1 million downloads in just two and a half years.

Investors participating in the Series B round include Drive Capital, Peter Thiel, Teamworthy Ventures, Narya VC, Contrary Capital, Uncork Capital, Susa Ventures, and Scott Malpass – the only American appointed by Pope Francis to sit on the Board of the Vatican Bank. Drive Capital led the round. This round follows just a few months after Hallow’s $12 million Series A round in April, led by General Catalyst.

Hallow will use the Series B funding to continue partnering with faith-based creators to build world-class content, make more of its over 3,000 meditations available for free, add new languages, and reach out to a broader group of unaffiliated or fallen-away Catholics and Christians. The Chicago-based company plans to scale hiring to double its mission-driven team.

“When we launched Hallow, we never could have imagined God making such a powerful impact on so many lives so quickly through this app,” said Alex Jones, CEO & Co-Founder of Hallow. “Every day we’re humbled by the support of everyone in the Hallow community and are incredibly excited about this next phase in Hallow’s mission. We believe in the power of re-introducing folks to the beauty of the Church’s centuries-old traditions of spirituality and are thrilled, with this new funding, to take a big step forward in helping the world find peace in God.”

Unlike many meditation and sleep apps, all of the guided meditations on Hallow are rooted entirely in the Catholic Church’s spirituality, teaching, and tradition. Hallow’s welcoming, easy-to-use app combines life-changing spiritual content with modern technology and design, allowing users to step away from their daily distractions to spend time in silence through prayer.

Hallow recently crossed 1 million downloads and 25 million prayers completed with over 35,000 five-star reviews. Over the last year they have added many phenomenal faith leaders to the app including Bishop Robert Barron, Fr. Mike Schmitz, Dr. Scott Hahn, Leah Darrow, Sister Miriam James Heidland, Fr. Mark-Mary, Fr. Josh Johnson, Matt Fradd, Jonathan Roumie, David Henrie, Emily Wilson, Chris Stefanick, Bobby & Jackie Angel, and many more. Hallow has also formed a new Board of Advisors led by Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades. Available in the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Amazon App Store, Hallow is rapidly growing in popularity with 700% more prayers this month than during the same time last year.

“Hallow is an incredible mission-driven company that has already enriched the lives of so many people; and the amazing part is that Hallow is only getting started,” said TJ Dembinski, a Partner at Drive Capital. “The global pandemic has accelerated the embrace of digital technology in every industry and in all aspects of our lives, and religion is no different. Hallow has a massive opportunity to bring faith into the hands of 1.3 billion Catholics around the world, as well as anyone in search of peace and comfort in their lives. We are excited to lead the Series B and proud to support the Hallow team as they continue their amazing work.”

Anyone can download the Hallow app and access content for free. Hallow’s subscription option, Hallow Plus, unlocks the full suite of content for $60 per year ($5 per month) after a 30-day free trial.

Hallow’s Series B fundraise follows a $12 million Series A round led by General Catalyst in April of this year.

Ziegler Closes $32,500,000 Financing For Christian Living Neighborhoods

Will Carney, Managing Director, Ziegler Senior Living Finance added, “Christian Living Communities is a progressive senior living provider whose leadership team moved quickly to capture favorable market conditions and generate significant debt service savings.

Ziegler, a specialty investment bank, is pleased to announce the successful closing of Christian Living Neighborhoods’ Series 2021 Bonds.

Christian Living Communities is a Colorado not-for-profit corporation and 501(c)(3) that provides housing, healthcare, and community outreach programs to over 1,000 seniors and their families. CLC’s mission is to provide a continuum of services and care that reflect Christian love, respect, and compassion that enriches the quality and dignity of life for each resident. CLC owns and operates Christian Living Neighborhoods (“CLN”) which is comprised of three separate and distinct communities in Colorado: Holly Creek, Someren Glen, and Clermont Park. CLN is one of the largest senior living systems in Colorado with a total of 782 units. Christian Living Communities is ranked #96 on the 2020 LeadingAge Ziegler 200.

Bond proceeds, along with other available funds, will refinance the Series 2011 and 2012 Bonds, fund $11.8 million of capital expenditures at Someren Glen, fund a deposit to the Common Reserve Fund, and pay cost of issuance. The Bonds will be non-rated with a 2042 maturity.

CLN’s previous bond issues sized their reserve funds at the individual bond level, but Ziegler recommended using a “Common Reserve Fund” which resulted in lowering the reserve requirement by approximately $2.4M. Since the Series 2011 and Series 2012 Bonds are not callable until January 2022, the Series 2021 Bonds were sold with a 3-month forward settlement to October 2021 (90 days prior to the actual call date). Ziegler recommended this forward settlement in an effort to “lock in” favorable interest rates before market conditions deteriorated. Ziegler estimates that this decision saved CLN approximately 50 bps in yield, or over $150,000 of annual debt service. Net present value savings were approximately $6m or 23% of principal refunded. The average yield to call was a 2.53% and the average yield-to-maturity was a 3.07%.

Bryon Childs, Treasurer and CFO, commented, “We’re deeply grateful for Ziegler’s guidance on the timing and structure of this refinancing to lock in very favorable interest rates. We went to market at the exact right time.”

Will Carney, Managing Director, Ziegler Senior Living Finance added, “Christian Living Communities is a progressive senior living provider whose leadership team moved quickly to capture favorable market conditions and generate significant debt service savings. This refinancing helps better position the organization to afford long-term strategic growth and reinvestment in the future.”

Ziegler is the nation’s leading underwriters of financing for not-for-profit senior living providers. Ziegler offers creative, tailored solutions to its senior living clientele, including investment banking, financial risk management, merger and acquisition services, seed capital, FHA/HUD, capital and strategic planning as well as senior living research, education, and communication. Margaret Fox Shaiebly’s newly released “Jesus Never Fails” is an inspiring story of true love and God’s guiding hand over a lifetime

News Image

“Jesus Never Fails: The Story of Roger and Margaret Fox, Missionaries to Japan”: a potent example of missionary work. “Jesus Never Fails: The Story of Roger and Margaret Fox, Missionaries to Japan” is the creation of published author Margaret Fox Shaiebly, a missionary for forty-four years who retired as missionary in residence at Lancaster Bible College in Pennsylvania at age eighty-two and went to be with the Lord at ninety-one.

Shaiebly shares, “In 1951, Roger and Margaret Fox packed up two small children and a few meager possessions and set off to Japan to serve as missionaries. They found a country still recovering from the devastation of war. They started language studies to be able to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people who a few years earlier were the ‘enemy.’

“They learned new ways to live. They experienced new customs and ways of thinking. They spent three terms of Christian service over fifteen years before they worked themselves out of a job by building a national church with a national pastor in charge of the still-growing congregation of believers. This is their story.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Margaret Fox Shaiebly’s new book is a fascinating private look into the lives of the Fox family.

Inspired at a young age, the author always dreamed of being a missionary to Borneo. Little did Margaret know, the Lord had much more in store for this dedicated Christian.

Brian Gibbons’s newly released “The Contradiction Mystery Has Been Solved” is a compelling exploration of what it takes to be saved

News Image

“The Contradiction Mystery Has Been Solved”: an engaging opportunity for spiritual reflection. “The Contradiction Mystery Has Been Solved” is the creation of published author Brian Gibbons.

Gibbons shares, “For a long time now, there has been a great debate in Christendom as to what is required of a person by God to obtain salvation from him. Is it totally of grace, as some people say, or does it require works as well? Since the Bible seems to talk about both works and grace concerning salvation and since, according to Romans 11, that works and grace are the opposite of each other, it would appear that the Bible is contradicting itself. However, once you come to understand that there is a one true way to interpret the Holy Scriptures, which is one who lives in today’s world has never seen before, then it opens up a whole new understanding as to what the Bible has to say concerning salvation, and that there is no contradiction. And once you know what God truly requires of his people, you can then live your life by this greater, more accurate knowledge to have the salvation of everlasting life given to you someday.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Brian Gibbons’s new book is a thoughtful ponderance on salvation.

Gibbons shares in hopes of encouraging those who seek a stronger connection to God through dedication to the Word of God.

Consumers can purchase “The Contradiction Mystery Has Been Solved” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

Stories and Poems of a Girl Born in the Valley of the Rio Mira” is an engaging exploration of the author’s heritage

News Image

“Mi Cuajara: Stories and Poems of a Girl Born in the Valley of the Rio Mira”: a potent examination of life growing up in an isolated community and the rich historical background of the people found there. “Mi Cuajara: Stories and Poems of a Girl Born in the Valley of the Rio Mira” is the creation of published author Lola M. Laben, a loving wife and mother who was born in the isolated valley of the Rio Mira in Ecuador. Laben married a Peace Corps volunteer in 1977 and immigrated to California.

Laben shares, “The 1960s don’t seem that long ago to many of us. Given how crowded and closely connected the world of the present is, it’s hard to imagine there were places then that had been settled and cultivated for four hundred years but, as recently as the 1980’s, had no electricity, no plumbing, and very little traffic except for horses, donkeys, and (mostly bare) feet. The valley of the Rio Mira in Ecuador was such a place. Jesuit priests brought slaves – including Lola Laben’s ancestors – to farm sugarcane almost four hundred years ago. Slavery was abolished, but the work continued. Agrarian reform came, Lola’s parents became land owners, and the work continued. Lola was born in a mud house identical to the ones her slave ancestors had been born in for generations. She helped her parents farm a little farther downriver in the same manner that her ancestors had farmed. She explored her tropical paradise and wondered about faraway places and listened to the news of the outside world: the world beyond her valley and the city where the train came to and from three times a week.

“Fate determined that the outside world would find her, and she now resides in the most thoroughly modern and up-to-date nation on the planet. Guess what? Her childhood was full of wonder, beauty, adventure, and freedom even though survival was less certain. This book recounts the world that Lola was born into and how her heritage prepared her to meet the challenges of her future.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Lola M. Laben’s new book is a poignant arrangement of personal reflections and poetry.

Laben paints a vivid picture of life in the Rio Mira area in hopes of spreading awareness of the importance of valuing one’s cultural heritage.

Consumers can purchase “Mi Cuajara: Stories and Poems of a Girl Born in the Valley of the Rio Mira” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

Marshall is a piano tuner, technician, and rebuilder with a passion for gardening.
