Northwest Houston gains an Edge on health

Edge Weight Loss & Fatigue (http://www.edgeweightloss.com) has expanded their successful Northwest Houston wellness clinic with the addition of a second location in Katy, Texas.

The new office is located at:

23530 Kingsland Blvd. Ste. 201

Katy TX 77494

The primary Edge location in Spring (17819 Stuebner Airline) has been successfully helping Texans and beyond achieve their health and weight loss goals for years. Their goal is for patients to achieve health and wellness, naturally, with more energy and drive, and at their ideal body weight.

“Patients are demanding more natural approaches to health and wellness and are becoming more active participants in their health” says Robert Pinard, Owner. “Physicians and patients alike are coming to the realization that the over prescribing of drugs and pay-for-play medicine is no longer a viable solution. We’re focused on creating a healthier community with more energy and focus and we’re leading the way.”

Patients of all types and with varying goals make their weekly visit to the clinic for their boost of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, hormones, and more. Edge’s new office in Katy will help reduce client drive times and ensure personalized wellness is more accessible than ever in both the Spring and Katy area.

“Our goal has always been to provide optimal personalized health for our clients, that’s affordable, convenient and effective!” said Robert Pinard. “Our Spring/Tomball location certainly felt the demand, so we have opened a satellite office in Katy to ensure office visits at both locations will continue to be convenient and affordable, while we help as many people as possible to pursue a more full and healthy life with our natural and cutting edge treatments.

Edge Weight Loss & Fatigue is a truly personalized approach to wellness tailored to each individual biochemistry and individual goals with services including: General Wellness, IV Nutrient Therapy, Medical Weight Loss, Medical Diet and Nutrition, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Vitamin Therapy, Sports and Fitness, Body Composition, Low Energy/Fatigue, Skin Rejuvenation, and more.

“We see patients of all types, everything from weight loss to fitness competition prep and everyone in between,” says Pinard.

The demand for natural health alternatives and anti-aging medicine that fueled Edge Weight Loss & Fatigue’s success and rapid growth has also led to plans for a future Edge Medical center in Tomball, Texas. Edge Medical will provide Primary Care, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary & Critical Care, Sleep Medicine, Allergy & Immunology, Cardiology, and an affordable pharmacy with the goal of getting patients off the abundance of prescription medicines and onto a healthy lifestyle, naturally. Edge Medical is slated to open October 2019.

Simply Connect Launches “Marketplace”

Simply Connect announced Tuesday, September 17th the launch of Marketplace, a new product from Simply Connect that will help service providers increase community census through robust and customizable search.

“This new technology has the potential to increase service community census by up to 20 percent in a mere matter of weeks,” said Simply Connect CEO Craig Patnode. “This is about utilizing our proprietary search capabilities to target potential customers with speed and accuracy, in ways that are commensurate with how patients look for care.”

Finding a provider who is covered by a patient’s insurance or other healthcare coverage is often time consuming and frustrating and can cause individuals to give up before receiving care. With Marketplace, patients, caregivers and providers can:

  • Browse lists of available care providers by such filters as location, primary focus, community type, services and insurance carriers.
  • View the details, program requirements, language services, age groups accepted, program requirements and more of various communities.
  • Request appointments and make referrals for potential and existing clients.
  • See at a glance the wider provider network that is available to provide care.

Marketplace does not only assists providers with community census, it also benefits individuals and their natural supports in helping to self-manage appointments, search for specific providers and foster follow-up activity.

To learn more about Marketplace and its integration with Simply Connect, please contact Leah Schwintek at leah.schwintek@simplyconnect.me or 651-328-7872.

Conscious Discipline and Reflection Sciences Partner to Assess and Improve Executive Function in Children

News Image

“We noticed a strong alignment between Conscious Discipline and our focus on reflection in the context of supportive relationships to develop strong executive function skills,” said Dr. Carlson, Co-founder and Chief Science Officer at Reflection Sciences.

Conscious Discipline, a leader in social-emotional learning and classroom management best practices, has partnered with Reflection Sciences in an effort to better measure and improve executive function in children. Reflection Sciences was founded by Phil Zelazo, Ph.D., and Stephanie Carlson, Ph.D., researchers at the University of Minnesota and creators of the Minnesota Executive Function Scale (MEFS). The MEFS App™ is a direct digital tablet assessment and the most accurate measurement of executive function available today.

Beginning in mid-2019, Conscious Discipline will be selling access to the MEFS App™ and training materials through its website. After purchasing the app and integrating it into instruction, users will receive specific Conscious Discipline intervention activities tied to each child’s executive function development, their age, and their performance on the game-like assessment.

Student data gathered through the MEFS App™ can be used to monitor progress, track the development of executive function and evaluate the effects of interventions and curricula. The assessment is brief, reliable, and valid and can be administered starting at age two and extending through adulthood. Children may be assessed multiple times throughout the year with the purchase of the MEFS training and one license per student.

Executive function is a set of skills that are essential, not just for school achievement, but for life happiness and success. Executive function helps people pay attention, plan, organize, make decisions, stick to their goals, control emotions and impulsivity, learn from past mistakes, and take other people’s perspectives. These neuro-cognitive skills include working memory, inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility. Executive function is often a better predictor of academic and life success than traditional IQ tests, and it helps protect children from adversity-related risks.

“Conscious Discipline improves executive function in children. Through our partnership with Reflection Sciences, educators and schools can not only measure this improvement, but also implement interventions and track measurable goals,” said Dr. Becky Bailey, founder of Conscious Discipline. “This partnership gives teachers, schools and parents a more tangible way to track progress and clearly see the growth achieved with Conscious Discipline.”

“We noticed a strong alignment between Conscious Discipline and our focus on reflection in the context of supportive relationships to develop strong executive function skills,” said Dr. Carlson, Co-founder and Chief Science Officer at Reflection Sciences. “We are now excited to go to market together with Conscious Discipline so more young children globally can benefit from both of our services.”

Child Trends conducted an evaluation with 700 young children in the state of Ohio in conjunction with the University of Dayton and Preschool Promise and concluded that Conscious Discipline’s SEL curriculum led to growth in executive function performance as measured by the MEFS App™.

About Conscious Discipline

Conscious Discipline provides a comprehensive, trauma-informed social-emotional program that is based on current brain research, child development information and developmentally appropriate practices. All aspects of Conscious Discipline focus on creating a safe, connected environment for children to learn and practice the skills needed for healthy social, emotional and academic development. Conscious Discipline methodology is recognized by SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP), and it was named as a national model for character education by the Florida State Legislature. Research shows that Conscious Discipline decreases aggression, impulsivity and hyperactivity while creating a positive environment in the school or home. In schools, Conscious Discipline has been shown to decrease discipline referrals while increasing teaching time and academic achievement. Learn more at http://www.consciousdiscipline.com.

About Reflection Sciences

Reflection Sciences, Inc. (http://www.reflectionsciences.com) provides professional development, training, intervention curricula, and tools for assessing and improving executive function skills. The Minnesota Executive Function Scale (the MEFS AppTM) is the first objective, scientifically based, and normed direct assessment that validly and reliably measures EF skills in children from two years of age and up. The MEFS App™ is a quick (5 minute), fun game for students, but it provides vital data for educators and parents on a student’s executive function skills.

Windsor Vallejo Care Center Celebrates Volunteers at Annual Appreciation Dinner

Windsor Vallejo Appreciation Dinner

“Each year, we host a special Appreciation Dinner for all our volunteers,” says Cumay-Ao. “We feel it is very important to recognize the selfless efforts of these amazing individuals.”

Windsor Vallejo Care Center, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center located in Vallejo, California, recently held its’ annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, recognizing the valuable services their volunteers provide to the residents at the care center.

The Volunteer Program was initially launched in 2003 by Norma Cumay-Ao, Activities Director at Windsor Vallejo, to meet the spiritual needs of the residents. Based on her assessment, residents at Windsor Vallejo belonged to 27 different religious denominations. Cumay-Ao recruited volunteers from dozens of religious organizations in Vallejo and within 3 months, pastors, clergy, ministers and religious leaders responded to the invitation and scheduled their services.

The program subsequently expanded to include a range of activities for residents, including: arts and crafts, exercise classes, one-on-one reading and conversation, entertainment (musicals, dances and other presentations), and discussion groups. Civic and religious organizations are invited for holiday events, and local and county officials volunteer as guest speakers for special events.

“Each year, we host a special Appreciation Dinner for all our volunteers,” says Cumay-Ao. “We feel it is very important to recognize the selfless efforts of these amazing individuals. This year, close to a hundred volunteers, special guests and staff attended the dinner. We presented volunteers an award and a Congressional Certificate from the Office of Congressman Mike Thompson. The Mayor of Vallejo, Bob Sampayan, was also present and addressed the attendees. And of course, we served great food and provided musical entertainment.”

There are currently over 100 active individuals from various religious groups who volunteer weekly at Windsor Vallejo.
