Amazon Release of “Happygram,” Award-Winning Documentary Revealing Mammograms Ineffective for Detecting Breast Cancer in 40% of Women, Those With Dense Breast Tissue

“Happygram is to mammography what Blackfish was to Seaworld.”

Happygram will be released to the public on Amazon on September 27, 2019, in advance of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in October.

In March of 2019 the FDA proposed a change to reporting guidelines for the first time in 20 years to include breast density information in mammogram reports that are sent to patients. This information is already collected and provided to the referring physician.

Women advocates had demanded this change for a decade, and were forced to enact state legislation to require “density reporting” while the FDA resisted calls for the change. As a result of this advocacy, 38 states had enacted some type of density notification laws as of 2018, although not all laws required notification to a woman about her own density.

“Dense tissue” refers to having more than 50% non-fatty vs. fatty tissue in the breast. 40% of women who get mammograms have dense breast tissue, which appears white on a mammogram, and can obscure cancers. 70% of invasive cancers occur in women with dense tissue and cancers are often missed by a mammogram for years until they have metastasized.

Density Fact Sheet: http://www.happygramthemovie.com/press.html

Women with dense tissue have a higher risk for breast cancer. Women with > 75% density have 4-6 times the average risk for cancer, a higher risk than if your mother had breast cancer.

“Happygram” is the term for the form letter women receive stating that their mammograms are “normal,” when they actually have an invasive cancer that is missed by the mammogram.

The documentary was inspired by the friendship between Director Julie Marron, of Rhode Island, and Hallie Leighton, of New York, her close friend who died after mammograms missed her breast cancer until it had metastasized. Ms. Leighton was instrumental in the effort to enact the New York state legislation in 2013 before she passed away. The film has won awards across the country, including First Prize for the Providence Film Festival Award at the prestigious Rhode Island International Film Festival.

“Happygram features several women who were not informed of their breast density, of the increased cancer risk that dense tissue poses, or of the fact that mammograms miss cancers when you have dense breasts,” says film director, Marron.

The film explores alternative and adjuvant FDA-approved screening modalities which are more effective at detecting cancer in women with dense tissue. “The film includes interviews with medical experts, politicians, and attorneys advocating for awareness and action on this life-and-death issue,” Marron states. More info: http://www.happygramthemovie.com/about-us-.html

“What stands out in all the stories in this film is that everyone’s cancer was missed for years by the mammogram, and you just don’t hear about that when breast cancer awareness month rolls around,” Marron said. “We hope to highlight the importance of knowing your breast density, so that no woman ever has to go through what these women did.”

“Plump Up Your Profit” Viora Announces the Launch of PlumpRF™, An Innovative Non-Injectable Treatment for Lip Plumping

https://www.prweb.com/

Viora’s CORE™ technology enables practitioners to deliver sufficient energy fluence in order to create a rejuvenated effect which increases dermal thickness and restores the lips to their natural red color.

Viora is thrilled to unveil PlumpRF™, the fully customizable, wholly better alternative to injectables. Using advanced technology completely unique to Viora, this revolutionary treatment opens lip plumping up to an entirely new clientele while keeping current patients more satisfied than ever.

The reality is, everyone may want fuller lips, but not everyone wants to be pricked with needles to achieve them, especially if the result ends up looking unnatural. Now, an option exists for all patients to attain natural, full, desirable lips without the risk of discomfort, bruising, and downtime.

This is how it works. PlumpRF integrates Viora’s CORE™ (Channeling Optimized Radiofrequency Energy) Technology, the only delivery system on the market that penetrates precisely into the gentle lip tissue to produce the volumetric heating required to stimulate fibroblast activity, collagen regeneration, and increased blood microcirculation. The result is a look that appears as though it had been surgical, but amazingly was not.

Delivered through the Viora bipolar RF, V-ST hand-piece, 10-minute PlumpRF treatment is quick, safe, painless, and requires no downtime. Plus, the V-ST hand-piece can be utilized to offer many additional facial and body tightening treatments beyond lip plumping, compounding its value. Best long term results are achieved with packages of 6-8 treatments and spread across three months followed by bi-annual maintenance, creating an excellent opportunity for recurring revenue. This, in addition to the financial benefits already realized by simply bypassing the over commoditized market of injectables, make PlumpRF irresistible to patient and practice alike.

Dr. Inna Belenky (Ph.D) | VP Marketing & Clinical Affairs

“Regardless of a person’s genetic makeup of the lips, external factors such as a poor diet, smoking, dehydration, sun damage and more, influence the color, shape and vitality of our lips. Our lifestyle and aging processes lead to the loss of connective tissue (collagen and elastin), moisture and reduced blood microcirculation which can lead to dull color and a thin dermal layer. Viora’s CORE™ technology is a perfect fit for the human lips. CORE™ technology’s ability to cool the epidermal layer makes the treatment totally pain-free, even on such a sensitive area as the lips. In addition, employing CORE™ technology enables practitioners to deliver sufficient energy fluence in order to create a rejuvenated effect which increases dermal thickness and restores the lips to their natural red color. While hyaluronic acid fillers just stuff the lips to produce more volume, the natural regenerative processes achieved by bipolar RF, restore vivid and youthful appearance of the lips.”

Before Viora’s PlumpRF, surgical-level results of lip plumping were only available to clientele who were willing to undergo discomfort and risk. Now, everyone can have the full, beautiful lips they’ve always desired without the pain and encumbrance.

Schedule a financial analysis and technology overview of the PlumpRF treatment with your Viora representative today.

BioFactura Awarded $67.4 Million Advanced Development Contract for its Smallpox Biodefense Therapeutic

News Image

“We look forward to working with BARDA in this new chapter of product development as we bring an important defense to our citizens,” shares Dr. Darryl Sampey, President and CEO of BioFactura

BioFactura, Inc. today announced a contract awarded by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) valued at up to $67.4 million for the advanced development of its Smallpox Biodefense Therapeutic as a potential medical countermeasure (MCM) for the treatment of smallpox. This product has the potential to fulfill an unmet need in preparedness for a second anti-viral therapeutic with a different mechanism of action to the current stockpile to guard against potential host resistance.

This contract for the development of the Smallpox Biodefense Therapeutic consists of a base phase, valued at approximately $9.5 million, and three option phases over a total of 5 years. Under the base period-of-performance, work will focus on the development of manufacturing processes for the drug components, final product formulation, analytical method development, stability studies and regulatory activities to support formal engagement with the FDA. In addition to the base, the contract also includes U.S. Government options that may be activated to support process optimization and clinical manufacturing, additional non-clinical development studies to support an Investigational New Drug filing, and a first-in-humans Phase 1 clinical study.

While smallpox was declared eradicated in 1980 by the World Health Organization after an extensive vaccination campaign, the threat of bioterrorism and/or inadvertent release remains. Although TPOXX® (Tecovirimat, SIGA Technologies, Inc.) received FDA approval for smallpox treatment in 2018, Variola Virus (VARV), the causative agent for smallpox infections in humans, can become resistant to treatment suggesting that the best medical countermeasure approach would utilize complementary therapeutics. To fill the need for additional treatment options, BioFactura, in partnership with BARDA, is advancing the development of its monoclonal antibody-based Smallpox Biodefense Therapeutic in a stepwise approach building upon years of early product research and development and a strong foundation of cell line, process, analytical and

manufacturing development experience and expertise.

Dr. Darryl Sampey, President and CEO of BioFactura, stated, “This advanced research and development contract award marks the culmination of decades of discovery and development work performed by our team, our partners at the National Institutes of Health and our principal government collaborator Dr. Jay Hooper at the U.S. Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. We look forward to working with BARDA in this new chapter of product development as we bring an important defense to our citizens.”

“This government contract for the development of a novel smallpox therapeutic countermeasure is the result of years of cutting edge biotechnology research, the perseverance of forward-thinking scientific entrepreneurs, the risk appetite of loyal investors, and the dedication of the Department of HHS/BARDA to maintain the safety and security of the United States population,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Hausfeld, BioFactura’s Chief Medical Officer and Chairman. “It is truly an evolving American success story and one which as a physician and Chairman of the Board of BioFactura, I am proud to be a part of.”

This project has been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services; Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response; Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, under Contract No. 75A50119C00054.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Promises to Enable Universal Access to rh-Insulin by Reducing Prices to Less than 10 US cents /Day for LMICs

At Biocon, we are guided by the conviction that a lifesaving product like insulin cannot be priced out of the reach of those that need it on an everyday basis, whether in advanced economies like the United States or in Africa, or anywhere else on the planet.

Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Philanthropist and Founder of Biocon, today, announced her personal commitment towards enabling universal access to high quality insulin by offering recombinant human Insulin (rh-Insulin) at less than 10 US cents / day in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). These countries, which form most of the world, contribute to 80% of the global disease burden.

The announcement was made at an United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) side meeting on innovation and universal health access convened by UNAIDS Health Innovation Exchange, in the presence of the President of Ethiopia, the First Lady of Namibia, Health Ministers from Botswana and Malawi, and representatives from the Private Sector and Development Agencies. The forum on ‘Accelerating Innovations and Investments for Access to Healthcare’ was co-sponsored by UNAIDS and the Center for Global Health and Development.

Biocon Biologics’ recombinant human insulin has been developed using the scientific expertise and world class R&D and manufacturing facilities that have allowed it to bring multiple biosimilar medicines to the US and Europe. The Company is committed to use its science, scale and expertise to shift the access paradigm for patients in need of insulins. Biocon is a leading global insulins player with over 15 years of experience in addressing the needs of patients with diabetes, having provided over 2 billion doses of human insulin worldwide, thus far.

The announcement by Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is guided by her conviction that a life-enabling product like insulin cannot be priced out of the reach of those that need it on an everyday basis, whether in the United States or in Africa.

Biocon’s Recombinant Human insulin offer of less than 10 US cents / day in LMICs is for vials sourced by the government directly from Biocon, assuming an insulin dosage of 40 IU per day.

Currently, the blended median patient prices in LMICs are US$ 9** per 10 ml vial translating to 36 US cents/ day. The current US list price in retail is over US$ 5*** / day.

Biocon, an India-based global biopharmaceuticals company is committed to affordability and access and will work with healthcare systems and payers worldwide to ensure that Insulin pricing is not a constraint to the well-being of individuals and of communities.

She also called upon insulin delivery devices manufacturers to join the movement towards ensuring affordable access to insulins by ensuring lower prices for the insulin pens and needles required to administer the drug.

Biocon Biologics is willing to work with governments to ensure ways to overcome price barriers, including through special pricing and setting up low-cost manufacturing facilities via public-private partnerships in order to address the huge cost burden borne by people with diabetes.

In high income regions like the US, Biocon believes it can make a dramatic impact on the current insulin pricing crisis if its ongoing discussions with the regulators allow the Company to scientifically bridge its clinical data to US reference product.

This will reduce clinical development costs and bring the product years earlier to patients who cannot afford insulin therapy.

Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is a healthcare visionary and philanthropist. Her vision is to enable universal access to high quality medical products, particularly to address the global chronic disease burden. She is a pioneer of India’s biotech industry and founder of the country’s leading biotechnology enterprise, Biocon. A thought leader and a global influencer, she has been ranked among ‘World’s 25 Most Influential People in Biopharma’ by Fierce Biotech. She was No. 1 in the Business Captains category on the ‘Medicine Maker Power List’ 2018, an index of the 100 most influential people across the globe in the field of medicine, where she has been among the Top 10 continuously since 2015.

She is a full-term member of the MIT Corporation, the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and member of the National Academy of Engineering, US. She is on the board of directors of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) and has previously served as a member of the board of trustees of the US Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). She has been conferred with the Advancing Women in Science and Medicine Award for Excellence by the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, US and Othmer Gold Medal by the Chemical Heritage Foundation, US.

Biocon Limited, publicly listed in 2004, in India is a fully-integrated, innovation-led global biopharmaceuticals company committed to enhance affordable access to complex therapies for chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer and autoimmune diseases, benefitting a billion lives.

Biocon Biologics is its wholly owned subsidiary engaged in providing affordable access to high quality biosimilars to patients across the globe. It is driven by its vision to transform patients’ lives across the globe through innovative and inclusive healthcare solutions. Biocon’s rh-Insulin and Insulin Glargine products are already benefiting people with diabetes in many emerging and developed markets. In multiple countries like Mexico and Malaysia, nearly all insulin-requiring diabetics take Biocon’s insulins. Its rh-Insulin is registered in over 40 countries worldwide.

The Company is serving patients in U.S., EU, Japan, Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Turkey and the Asia-Pacific regions through its high quality biosimilars for diabetes and cancer. Biocon’s large scale, state-of-the-art bio-manufacturing facilities are qualified by various regulatory agencies from developed and emerging markets.

Five Consumer Safety Guidelines When Vaping from Integrated Healthcare Solutions

https://www.prweb.com/

Legitimate CBD vaporizers are different from e-cigarettes and do not draw carcinogens into the body. Consumers should always check for a Certificate of Analysis (COA) on packaging.

While vaping options are vast, not all cartridges are alike. That’s why we’ve put together five general safety guidelines to help consumers find quality vaporizers and make sure they get the outcome they expect.

As a result of hundreds of lung disease cases linked to e-cigarettes and vaping, Integrated Healthcare Solutions Inc. (IHS), a leading innovator in cannabidiol (CBD) products, has released new guidelines to help consumers choose safe, legal and effective CBD vaporizers.

According to Dorian Knape, CEO of woman-owned IHS, many of the cases stem from products that contain THC, nicotine and vitamin E acetate as well as impurities, so consumers should do their research before vaping.

“While vaping options are vast, not all cartridges are alike,” said Knape. “Consumers can take a few simple steps to make an informed buying decision. That’s why we’ve put together five general safety guidelines to help consumers find quality vaporizers and make sure they get the outcome they expect.”

1) Choose a Vaporizer Instead of an E-cigarette – Vaporizing is different from an e-cigarette and does not draw carcinogens into the body. Many e-cigarettes contain propylene glycol (PEG) and nicotine-flavored juices, which can be harmful, whereas Urban Bio vaporizers blend naturally derived floral terpene profiles with CBD.

2) Check the Certificate of Analysis (COA) – Consumers should be wary of products that lack a COA, which involves testing by an independent lab for THC, heavy metals, microbials, pesticides and other concentrates. Most reputable CBD manufacturers will feature a QR code on their product labels, which enables consumers to access the COA by lot number. The COA should note THC levels or ensure that contents are THC-free. Consumers should also make sure the COA indicates the product does not contain vitamin E acetate, solvents, microbes, pesticides and heavy metals. These additives can affect the body’s cells, causing inflammation of the lungs.

3) Investigate Cartridge Content and Brand Legitimacy – Avoid low-grade ingredients such as polypropylenes (PG) and PEG, vegetable glycerin (VG), nicotine and psychosomatic substances such as THC. Choose an established company and brand with address, web site and phone number clearly on product packaging.

4) Know Your Source – Don’t buy from street vendors or sources that can’t produce product documentation such as lot or batch numbers and current COAs, which indicate a track and trace process. Before choosing a vendor, consult your healthcare provider to determine safety.

5) Investigate the Power of Terpenes – Terpenes are natural aromatic compounds that produce a spectrum of scent associated with foods, perfumes, etc. Different strains of terpenes carry different therapeutic benefits. Established companies will clearly state the terpene profiles within their vape cartridges. This broadens the choice of effect sought by consumers and eliminates the need for nicotine and THC.

“At IHS, we’ve taken extensive steps to provide consumers with exceptionally pure vaporizers that are free of THC, nicotine, vitamin E acetate, heavy metals, microbes and other contaminants – and we back that up with third-party lab testing as demonstrated by our COAs,” said Knape. “Consumers can be confident when they vaporize with our Urban Bio Pure Inhalation Cannabidiol (PIC) Cartridges.”

Sourced from hemp extract, Urban Bio PIC Cartridges are high in antioxidants and available in nine organic terpene profiles. Each 400 MG, one-gram cartridge features a 510-threaded connection for universal compatibility. In addition to PIC Cartridges, the Urban Bio product line includes transdermal relief creams, rejuvenation skin creams, gummies, and water-soluble Oral Drops as well as Pure Nano Drops.

Integrated Healthcare Solutions Inc. is a woman-owned enterprise and leverages the collective talents of more than 130 employees to help people stay active and live pain free. The company has a 30-year track record in healthcare through its affiliates, including medical devices by VQ OrthoCare, exercise and rehabilitation by VQ ActionCare and certified-organic nutrition by Pucker Urban Farms. Today, IHS boasts the power of its proprietary nano-amplified CBD as a path to maintaining wellness, supported by a rigid quality assurance program and an insistence on product purity. The company markets its growing portfolio of CBD products and services directly to consumers, through premier retail and wholesale channels, and through established medical professionals.

Silicon Valley Hair Institute Announces Update to FUE Transplant Information for California Patients Seeking Hair Loss Restoration

FUE transplant California

FUE transplant California

Bay Area locals have to remember that we are a bit spoiled in Silicon Valley. New technology is so normal here we forget that other people in the state of California are not so lucky!

Silicon Valley Hair Institute, the Bay Area leader in robotic hair transplantation at http://siliconvalleyhairinstitute.com/, is proud to announce a new post focused on information for California patients curious about Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). The post explains that easy access to the newest advances in medicine nearby could be regular for Bay Area locals, but that easy access to medical breakthroughs might be more difficult for California residents living in other less technology-focused regions in the Golden State.

“Bay Area locals have to remember that we are a bit spoiled in Silicon Valley. New technology is so normal here we forget that other people in the state of California are not so lucky,” explained Miguel Canales, of Silicon Valley Hair Institute. “We care for patients who come from all over California just to get the innovative hair transplant technology Bay Area locals take for granted.”

California residents can review the Silicon Valley Hair Institute’s updated informational page on FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplantation at http://siliconvalleyhairinstitute.com/fue-hair-transplant/. Men and women from outside the Bay Area can visit the institute to receive the best FUE transplantation surgery in the state. Interested persons can also learn about the ARTAS robotic system to help in hair loss surgery at http://siliconvalleyhairinstitute.com/artas/. California residents in search of the latest treatment for hair loss can reach to the clinic for a confidential, no-obligation consultation.

Patients Travel Far and Wide to Receive the Best FUE Transplant Surgery in California

Here is the background for this release. California’s leadership in new technology could give the impression all Californians have easy access. It may be simple to attain innovative medicine in larger cities around the state. State residents of rural, more remote areas, however, might need to travel further to gain access to new medical breakthroughs. Men suffering from baldness, or women searching for the latest hair thickening treatments, may be willing to drive several hours for the best FUE transplant in California.

The Bay Area clinic provides California-wide support for hair loss treatments. Many cities and towns throughout the state may not offer access to the latest in FUE robotic technology. People suffering from hair loss can travel for hours from Truckee, Sacramento, Livermore, or Pleasanton to find help at one of the best hair transplant specialists in the Bay Area.

A team of hair loss specialists supports patients from all over the state of California. Innovative treatments, including PRP Therapy and FUE robotic technology, can help out-of-towners find answers to thinning hair. For these reasons, Silicon Valley Hair Institute announces an update to the FUE transplant informational page.

PRMA Plastic Surgery Celebrates 25 Years of Providing Advanced Breast Reconstruction

PRMA Plastic Surgery 25th Anniversary, San Antonio, TX, Advanced Breast Reconstruction

PRMA Plastic Surgery Celebrates 25th Practice Anniversary

To date, PRMA has performed over 9000 breast reconstruction surgeries, including over 8000 microsurgical free flap procedures, making PRMA one of the busiest breast reconstruction practices in the world.

PRMA Plastic Surgery, a world leader in advanced breast reconstruction, celebrated their 25th anniversary on Friday, September 20th, 2019.

Twenty-five years ago, co-founders Dr. Peter Ledoux and Dr. Steven Pisano set out to change the lives of women affected by breast cancer by providing the most advanced forms of breast reconstruction to the San Antonio community.

Today, PRMA Plastic Surgery specializes in advanced breast reconstruction techniques with a focus on natural reconstruction using the patient’s own tissue, restoring breast sensation following a mastectomy through sensory nerve reconstruction, and surgical treatment options for patients suffering from debilitating effects of lymphedema.

Unlike traditional tissue “flap” techniques, PRMA specializes in procedures that preserve the patient’s muscle. This helps patients maintain their muscle function long term and makes recovery from surgery easier and faster.

The preferred reconstructive technique at PRMA, the DIEP flap, is the most advanced “natural” breast reconstruction option available today. Using the patient’s abdominal skin and fat to reconstruct a new breast, the DIEP flap procedure preserves the abdominal muscle, unlike the similar TRAM flap. Since all the abdominal muscle is saved, patients feel less pain after surgery, enjoy a faster recovery, and have a lower risk of abdominal complications such as bulging or hernia.

“It is an absolute honor to celebrate the 25th anniversary of PRMA. What started out as a small dream has transformed into something much larger than I could have imagined. We are blessed to have such an amazing team and I look forward to see how this practice transforms over the next 25 years,” stated Dr. Steven Pisano.

Dr. Peter Ledoux followed by saying, “This 25 years has gone by fast. What an honor to be a part of this team who has the same heart and goal of rebuilding lives after breast cancer.”

To date, PRMA has performed over 9000 breast reconstruction surgeries, including over 8000 microsurgical free flap procedures, making PRMA one of the busiest breast reconstruction practices in the world.

Since opening their doors in 1994, PRMA has grown to include a team of seven surgeons with two locations and is one of the most renowned breast reconstruction centers in the world.

About PRMA

PRMA Plastic Surgery in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in state-of-the-art breast reconstruction. Procedures offered include the DIEP flap, SIEA flap, thigh flaps, buttock flaps, fat grafting, lymphedema surgery, sensory nerve reconstruction and nipple-sparing mastectomy. PRMA is in-network for most US insurance plans and routinely welcomes patients from across the globe.

PRMA’s Mission

We are dedicated to promoting an environment of compassion, concern and support for every patient regardless of social or economic status and regardless of type of insurance. We will strive to not only support the patient and their family but also to support each other as the ever-changing field of medicine becomes more complex. Honesty and integrity, compassion and caring, make up the foundation of PRMA and at no point shall these principles be compromised.
