Rodkeys and Massage Heights to Impact National CBD Sales With New Partnership

“When people understand that CBD is non-intoxicating and that it prompts the body’s own Endocannabinoid System to do its job, it can help regulate a number of functions and ease ailments, they have a whole new array of options to assist them.

San Antonio-based businesses, Rodkeys and Massage Heights, are about to make a big impact on national Cannabidiol (CBD) product sales through a new partnership announced today. This collaboration has the potential to expand the public’s exposure to and comfort with non-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) CBD products.

A selection of Rodkeys branded non-THC CBD products are now available at more than 85 participating Massage Heights’ stores. An additional roll out to other Massage Heights stores in the company’s 140+ store network is in the works in states where non-THC CBD products are allowed by law.

“Like massage, CBD products are a great tool for alternative healing options,” said Brooke Riley, licensed massage therapist and operation specialist of Massage Heights. “We chose to partner with Rodkeys for this service because of their dedication to quality products and wellness education.”

Rodkeys is a plant-based health and wellness organization focused on promoting balance and vitality through the use of hemp-derived CBD products. Their quality assurance measures include tested and curated raw materials from vetted farms, a GMP certified local manufacturing lab, a Compound Pharmacist on staff, a Physicians Advisory Board, and two-level third-party testing to verify potency, no THC and no contaminants in all the products.

“As a wellness-focused institution, we assist everyday people who are becoming more familiar with the therapeutic potential of CBD,” said Charles Rodkey Jr., chief formulator and founder of Rodkeys. “The key is education and we personalize this to meet the needs of every client. When people understand that CBD is non-intoxicating and that it prompts the body’s own Endocannabinoid System to do its job, it can help regulate a number of functions and ease ailments, they have a whole new array of options to assist them. Partnering with Massage Heights is an important step in educating more people about CBD products and helping them to overcome common misconceptions.”

Interviews are available upon request.

Nanotechnology for disease diagnosis and treatment earns Florida Poly professor international award

Florida Poly assistant professor Dr. Ajeet Kaushik has received the 2019 Universal Scientific Education Research Network (USERN) Prize in biological sciences, an international award recognizing his work in the field of nanomaterials for the detection and treatment of diseases.

Dr. Ajeet Kaushik has received the 2019 USERN Prize in biological sciences.

“The drugs we use now do not go only where they need to go, or sometimes they have side effects. We are treating one disease but creating other symptoms. I’m exploring nanotechnology that can carry a drug, selectively go to a place, and release the drug so we avoid using excessive drugs.”

Dr. Ajeet Kaushik is determined to make detecting and treating diseases easy, accessible, and precise through the use of nanomaterials for biosensing and medicine.

His extensive work and resolute desire to improve the delivery of healthcare has earned Kaushik the prestigious Universal Scientific Education Research Network (USERN) Prize. He was named a laureate in the field of biological sciences during the group’s fourth annual congress on Nov. 8 in Budapest, Hungary.

USERN, a non-governmental, non-profit organization and network dedicated to non-military scientific advances, is committed to exploring science beyond international borders.

“I was speechless for a while,” said Kaushik, who is an assistant professor of chemistry at Florida Polytechnic University.

Kaushik did not attend the awards ceremony in person but did submit a video to be played at the event. He was among hundreds vying for the prize and one of five people who were recognized in different areas of study.

His submitted project, Nano-Bio-Technology for Personalized Health Care, focuses on using nanomaterials to create biosensors that will detect the markers of a disease at very low levels.

“Biosensing is not a new concept, but now we are making devices that are smarter and more capable,” Kaushik said.

He cited the recent zika virus epidemic that affected pregnant women and their fetuses, leading to significant health complications upon birth. “There was a demand to have a system that could detect the virus protein at a very low level, but there was no device. There was no diagnostic system,” he said.

Kaushik worked on the development of a smart zika sensor that could detect the disease at these low levels. “The kind of systems I’m focusing on can be customized in a way that we carry like a cell phone and do the tests wherever we need to do them,” he said.

In addition to using nanotechnology for the detection of diseases like zika, his research on nanoparticles is advancing efforts to precisely deliver medicine to a specific part of the body without affecting surrounding tissue or other parts of the body.

“The drugs we use now do not go only where they need to go, or sometimes they have side effects. We are treating one disease but creating other symptoms,” Kaushik said. “I’m exploring nanotechnology that can carry a drug, selectively go to a place, and release the drug so we avoid using excessive drugs.”

This nanomedicine could be used to precisely target brain tumors or other difficult-to-treat conditions. He has published papers in scientific journals about this work and also holds multiple patents.

“My whole approach is using smart material science for better health for everybody, which is accessible to everybody everywhere,” Kaushik said.

In addition to his USERN prize, Kaushik was named a USERN junior ambassador for 2020 and will work to advance the organization’s mission in the United States.

Former NBA Player Kevin Ollie Partners with Modern Acupuncture to Make Lives Better, Especially for Stressed Out Youth

Stress is a real issue affecting every part of our society and Modern Acupuncture is a potential solution for so many, especially for our youth who are more stressed-out than ever.

Modern Acupuncture™, the nation’s first acupuncture franchise that aims to bring holistic treatment to the masses, has partnered with Kevin Ollie, former NBA player and former head coach for the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team, winning the 2014 NCAA National Championship, to raise awareness about the potential for holistic medicine to transform and save lives.

“My mission is to have Modern Acupuncture knock on every door and deliver a gift of holistic healing wrapped in self-care management. Being a former athlete and national championship-winning coach, I know that this can benefit all of us regardless of our age, gender, race or socioeconomic background,” said Ollie. “Stress is a real issue affecting every part of our society and Modern Acupuncture is a potential solution for so many, especially for our youth who are more stressed-out than ever. I am eager to do what I can to increase awareness and accessibility for all.”

In 2018 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) published an alarming report that the suicide rate in the U.S. had increased by 30 percent over less than 20 years. Dr. Oren Miron from Harvard Medical School, further analyzed the CDC data to understand the impact on adolescents and young adults and found that in 2017 there was a 47 percent increase since 2000 in suicide deaths amongst the age range of 15-19. In fact, suicide is now the second-highest cause of death among people aged between 15-24. Dr. Michael Lindsey, Executive Director, McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research and Constance and Martin Silver Professor of Poverty Studies, studied the impact on black teens and found that the rate of self-reported suicide attempts since 1991 had increased by 73 percent.

While it isn’t exactly clear what is driving these trends, a 2017 Gallup Poll found that eight out of 10 people reported feeling stressed during their day and 44 percent reported that their stress levels had increased over the last five years.

In a 2019 study, Modern Acupuncture identified that stress was one of the leading conditions in which patients sought treatment. Since opening in 2017, Modern Acupuncture has seen over 400,000 patients visits and over 25 percent of these visits were specifically for stress, and anxiety.

“We have been overwhelmed with the positive stories from our patients who have reported turning a corner after suffering from debilitating stress and anxiety’ said Matt Hale, CEO of Modern Acupuncture. “Acupuncture is a game-changer in many people’s lives, and we have developed an approachable solution at Modern Acupuncture that helps demystifies acupuncture in general. Many are adopting acupuncture into their lifestyle and routine as it serves as a tool for people that are dealing with pain and stress. Partnering with Kevin Ollie will continue to spread our mission of making lives better and help people of all ages and backgrounds across the nation.”

Ollie followed his passion and partnered with respected physician and entrepreneur Charles L. Anderson, MD, MPH, MBA to develop the third Modern Acupuncture location in New England in Burlington, Mass., located at the Village at Burlington Mall, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2020.

“I partnered with Corey Bowdre (former Red Sox, Business Development) to help me bring as many people from across diverse backgrounds into this movement. Coach Ollie is a real guy, looking to make a real difference, and I am really fortunate to have him on my team,” said Dr. Anderson.

Unlike traditional acupuncture, a visit at Modern Acupuncture does not require the removal of any clothing to access full-body health. A visit to Modern Acupuncture™ feels like a relaxing retreat, where guests can unwind and possibly even fall asleep, zoning out to peaceful music all while experiencing the healing and/or cosmetic benefits of acupuncture. Sessions are typically 30 minutes or less, and walk-ins are welcome. For more information, please visit http://www.modernacupuncture.com.

New York Gum and Dental Implant Specialist Dr. Bernard Fialkoff Organizes December 9th NYC Dentists Give Back Day to Help NYC Veterans

Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, a New York City Dental Implant, Periodontal and Laser Surgeon of 39 years organized and formed the NYC Dentists Give Back Group at the September meeting of the Fialkoff Dental Study Club. The group of dentists decided to offer no charge dental exams and cleanings to veterans and those in need of dental care as a Holiday Hanukkah and Christmas gift. They did so to acknowledge the Veterans’ selfless dedication to protect the freedoms we all enjoy in the United States of America.

Dr. Fialkoff states, “US Veterans risked their lives to safeguard our nation. But many go without dental care and are living with pain and suffering from infections caused by the lack of proper dental care.” Only 8% of all US Veterans get care from the VA and worse yet, US veterans account for 12% of the homeless population in the US. Many Veterans are unable to receive dental treatment from the Veterans Administration because of strict inclusion criteria. To help, the NYC Dentists Give Back Group members have organized and will be delivering these no charge services at their respective dental offices throughout all five Boroughs on December 9.

Harlem Globetrotter Robert Hunter, Metro Area Veteran Directors Johnnie Williams and Manuel Rodriguez, Development Manager of the Queens Chamber of Commerce Brendan Leavy, Hispanic Dental Association President Dr. Hanette Gomez, Past Presidents of Queens County Dental Society Dr. Robert Trager, Dr. Robert Shpuntoff and Dr. Maria Torres, both club members, and Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, all pledged themselves to make December 9 NYC Dentists Holiday Gift Give Back Day, a day to remember. The group has a new Facebook site: “New York City Dentists Give Back Group”.

Commissioner James Hendon, NYC Department of Veterans’ Services says, “NYC Department of Veterans Services’ Engagement and Community Service team will soon begin to actively spread the word about your event. Also, we will begin to promote the Holiday Humanitarian Day dental services that you are offering on social media. We truly appreciate your generosity in offering one day of free dental services to Veterans and vulnerable members of our society.”

Dr. Fialkoff states, “Each New Yorker is very important to the well being of our city. Life is a group effort and the success of any program begins with the individuals in those groups. Any worthwhile activity begins with individuals and then spreads to family, local groups, the city, the state and then nationally. As community members, we can feel proud of helping our community and improving our city. What better way is there to do this, than help to help the very people who fought for our country’s freedom – our own Veterans.”

Dr. Bernard Fialkoff was Valedictorian of the SUNY at Stony Brook Dental School Class of 1980. He trained and graduated from the Memphis Veterans Administration Hospital Periodontal and Implant Surgical Specialty program in Memphis, Tennessee in 1982, is a distinguished honoree of Pierre Fauchard, as well as a Member of the New York State Dental Association Chemical Dependency Committee.

Dr. Fialkoff’s practice welcomes new patients. The office dedicates itself to helping patients with periodontal, dental implant and cosmetic laser treatments that regain confidence and healthy smiles. For 39 years, at 56-03 214th Street, Bayside, NY, the practice has gained a reputation for honesty, integrity and providing excellent, high quality care in a calm and friendly environment. You can contact the office at (718) 229-3838 or office@bernardfialkoffdds.com.

Configo Health Launches with Investment from Texas Children’s Hospital and Children’s National Hospital

“We are delighted to announce Texas Children’s Hospital and Children’s National Hospital, two of the top children’s hospitals in the nation, as our founding investors,” said Craig Manson, CEO of Configo Health.

Configo Health Inc., a healthcare data and analytics company specializing in pediatrics, launched today and announced it has secured investment funding from Texas Children’s Hospital and Children’s National Hospital. The organization also appointed industry veteran Stephanie Alexander as Chair.

Configo Health addresses the lack of credible benchmarked data accessible both to administrators and clinicians working within pediatric hospitals and to patients and their families. Using both machine learning and more traditional retrospective analytics, Configo Health delivers actionable insight with near real-time relevance to improve patient safety and achieve better outcomes for children.

By creating a dataset that will cover the breadth of pediatric care, Configo Health will provide public ratings organizations with the option to use risk-adjusted performance data to assess the quality of care delivered by hospitals across the country more effectively.

“Today’s six month lag for benchmarked pediatric outcomes data just isn’t acceptable. Configo’s move to near real-time insight will be a game changer for driving improvement,” said Dr. Eric Williams, System Chief Quality Officer at Texas Children’s Hospital. “Quicker access to this validated data means more decisions can be made bedside leading to improved outcomes for the patients and families we serve.”

Experts in extracting administrative data from pediatric hospitals, Configo Health provides HIPAA-compliant processes, secure data storage facilities, data cleansing and sophisticated analytical processing. By analyzing and evaluating data, organizations can reduce serious safety events, reduce mortality rates, optimize length of stay and reduce readmissions.

“We are delighted to announce Texas Children’s Hospital and Children’s National Hospital, two of the top children’s hospitals in the nation, as our founding investors,” said Craig Manson, CEO of Configo Health. “These relationships go well beyond capital and will allow us to develop solutions that truly meet the needs of pediatric hospitals and their patients and families.”

Alec King, Chief Financial Officer of Children’s National Hospital added, “We invested in Configo Health because we believe they have the vision, experience and skills to revolutionize access to clear, actionable data across all functions within our institution.”

Stephanie Alexander, former President of Premier Analytics and most recently CEO of PeraHealth, the leading clinical decision support tool, will join Configo Health as Chair.

“I’m thrilled to join the talented Configo Health team at this exciting time in their development,” said Alexander. “Having pioneered the use of data as a driver for improvement and efficiency in adult care, I’m relishing the opportunity to be part of an organization set to transform the role data plays in pediatric medicine.”
