Team Novo Nordisk Switching Over to Shimano Disc Brakes for 2020 Season

Team Novo Nordisk will race the 2020 season on Colnago frames complete with Shimano di2 components, disc brakes, and power meters while wearing GSG-designed kits.

“Shimano is proud to continue its long partnership with Team Novo Nordisk. The team’s mission to bring global awareness to the diabetes epidemic aligns perfectly with Shimano’s goal to promote health and happiness,” Shimano’s Road Brand Manager Nick Legan said.

Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, will race the 2020 season on Colnago frames complete with Shimano di2 components, disc brakes, and power meters while wearing GSG-designed kits.

Team Novo Nordisk first raced on Colnago bikes in 2013, its first professional season, and has continuously raced on the iconic Italian brand since 2016. For the 2020 season, Team Novo Nordisk’s men’s professional team will race on Colnago’s C64, Concept, V2r and V3r bikes on the road and the K-Zero during time trials. This will be the team’s first season on the V2r and V3r.

These frames are from Colnago’s high-end road range and are designed with the renowned Italian company’s tailor-made precision. The C64 features carbon fiber tubes and lugs glued together, which are made entirely by hand in Cambiago, Italy. The Concept, V2r and V3r frames push the boundaries of aerodynamics. The Concept was designed in a wind tunnel and is suitable for racing on flat terrains, fast, and sprints. The V2r is a compromise between lightweight and aerodynamic that makes it ideal for climbing thanks to its versatility. The V3r is the newest edition with improved lightness and aerodynamics that provides a stiffer and more comfortable ride.

For the first time in its eight-year history, Team Novo Nordisk will race on disc brakes. Industry-leading cycle component manufacturer Shimano’s disc brakes dominate the global market thanks to their superior modulation, heat management, and all-weather stopping power. Additionally, Team Novo Nordisk men’s pro team will race on Shimano’s Di2 shifting system and use Shimano power meters. The integration of the digital precision behind Shimano’s Di2 shifting and its critical power meter data will provide the athletes with instant, accurate shifting and precise data at the most intense time during a race.

“We couldn’t be more excited for the season ahead, Team Novo Nordisk’s first on Shimano disc brakes, and wish all the riders and staff the very best of luck.”

The significant change to Team Novo Nordisk’s 2020 GSG-designed navy-blue jersey is the addition of “99th year” in various locations throughout the kit. This highlights the fact that insulin, the lifesaving drug for people with diabetes, was discovered 99 years ago. The jersey continues to predominantly feature the words “Changing Diabetes” across the chest and white text with the team’s mission ‘inspire, educate and empower’ repeating around the torso. The light blue circle serves as the global symbol for diabetes awareness. The 2020 changes are designed to bring awareness to Team Novo Nordisk’s mission to inspire, educate and empower everyone affected by diabetes.

Team Novo Nordisk will kick off its racing season in February at the Tour Colombia following a 10-day training camp in Altea, Spain.

Team Novo Nordisk’s men’s professional team will race the 2020 season on:

  • Colnago frames
  • Shimano components including groupset, wheels, power meters, pedals and shoes
  • GSG Cycling Wear
  • lululemon off-the-bike apparel
  • Veloflex tires
  • Polisport helmets
  • Wahoo power trainers, computers and heart rate monitors
  • Selle Italia saddles
  • Bee1 socks

Lifecycle Biotechnologies announces the new line of chemicals and reagents filled in their 1L and 4L CHEM+POUR Bags, which were designed to provide an evolved experience as compared to bottles and to support aseptic Manufacturing. All specifications have been aligned with what the life science industry is accustomed to purchasing, to provide a simple plug and play solution. The new Simple Lifecycle line of ready to use chemicals and reagents includes:

  • Water, Sterile Filtered – Meets Specifications for USP Sterile Water for Irrigation
  • 0.9% Sodium Chloride – Meets Specifications for USP Sterile Saline for Irrigation

  • USP 71 Sterility Tested, Sodium Azide 5% w/v
  • 10% Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO)
  • 20% Ethanol
  • 0.1M Sodium Hydroxide

“Fact is supply chains are complicated. The demands of running a business doesn‘t allow for a slow process to get what you need. When you have a need you need an immediate solution. This is where our new line of Simple Lifecycle products come in,” said Aaron Schieving, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Lifecycle Biotechnologies. “It will allow our partners, existing and new, to simply get what they need quickly to best fulfill their needs and meet their timelines.”

With the Simple Lifecycle line of products also comes the benefit of an 84% reduction in waste that the CHEM+POUR bags provide, as compared to bottles. Other than using the CHEM+POUR Bags, there is no other action necessary to gain this reduction in waste. To enhance the sustainability and reduce waste even further, these products would also be eligible for their Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program. As a medical grade plastic manufacturer, Lifecycle is committed to making a difference; their commitment starts with a recycling program unlike any other life science supplier for their packaging. The CHEM+POUR Bags are eligible for their Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program and as part of this program Lifecycle will collect the packaging waste once empty, to clean, cut, regrind, and repursue into new plastic products. This program ensures this packaging waste is kept out of the landfill or the oceans and will help break the negative impact associated with the industry’s plastic addiction.

“The fact that we can simultaneously simplify your supply chain and build sustainability in your process with these new Simple Lifecycle products is a big deal. We are excited about it as it truly allows us and our partners to make a difference.” said Schieving. “You start by doing something different, even if it feels like it’s really small and really pointless as even small actions like that can have a ripple effect that lead to a much greater impact. Will you help us make a difference?”

Lifecycle also offers septum caps, spike adapters, luer to spike connectors, as well as other supplementary components to support a multitude of applications in addition to pouring for the Simple Lifecycle products.

National Survey Highlights Importance of Social Connection in Improving Well-being among Veteran Community

This survey highlights that providing free access to a wide range of community activities is creating much needed social connection — the fundamental ingredient for improving physical and mental well-being – to our military veteran population.

Service members and veterans find that attending events in their community improves their relationships, depression and PTSD symptoms, and overall well-being which can ease reintegration periods according to a major new survey released by the nonprofit Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix).

The annual survey received input from more than 52,000 currently serving military personnel and veterans who have signed up for Vet Tix’s benefits to free tickets to sporting events, concerts, performing arts and family activities. Service members and veterans tend to experience challenges as they reintegrate into their families, communities, and eventually, into civilian life. In order to better serve this population, Vet Tix’s survey investigated multiple areas in relation to Vet Tix’s impact, including community involvement and sense of belonging, social support, well-being, mental health, reintegration issues, event attendance and relationship impact.

Survey results showed positive impact on relationships and well-being, as 97% of respondents reported that attending Vet Tix events improves their relationships. Also, 61% of respondents reported that attending Vet Tix events has reduced their depression, anxiety, or PTSD symptoms.

View more results and the Vet Tix Impact Survey Overview here: https://www.vettix.org/impact-survey.php

These results strongly suggest that increasing social interaction and creating new, positive memories is helping our ‘VetTixers’ overcome mental health problems and PTSD.

“This survey highlights that providing free access to a wide range of community activities is creating much needed social connection — the fundamental ingredient for improving physical and mental well-being – to our military veteran population,” said Vet Tix CEO Mike Focareto. “Maintaining a sense of connection to one’s community during and after service is essential to many transitioning personnel and shows us just how impactful a Vet Tix event can be for veterans, service members, and their families. This is especially true in helping military families adjust to new communities after a relocation.”

“Vet Tix is evermore encouraged by the feedback from our community that Vet Tix enriches the lives of veterans and their families by increasing their community engagement and diversifying their experiences,” continued Focareto.

ABOUT VETERAN TICKETS FOUNDATION

Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides free tickets to sporting events, concerts, performing arts and family activities to currently serving military, National Guard and Reserves, veterans of all eras, immediate family of those killed in action, and VetTixers’ caregivers. Since 2008, Vet Tix has provided over 8 million free event tickets to more than 1.4 million members. In 2018 Vet Tix launched 1st Tix, which provides the same service to our nation’s current and retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs. These events help veterans and first responders reduce stress, strengthen family bonds, build lifelong memories, and encourage them to stay engaged with American life and their local communities. When Do We Treat Overeating?

Many people use the terms “binge eating” and “emotional eating” interchangeably, not knowing there are distinct differences. Even though binge eating and emotional eating can be similar, knowing when to treat clients for overeating is a crucial counseling skill. At the 2020 iaedp Symposium interactive workshop, Binge Eating Disorder Vs. Emotional Eating: When Do We Treat Overeating, participants will learn how to effectively treat binge eating disorder while supporting clients to have a healthy relationship with food, which may include emotional eating as an appropriate response to life circumstances.

Slated for March 26 – 29 at the Omni at ChampionsGate in Orlando, the 2020 iaedp™ Symposium will offer this workshop on opening day from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. as well as over 70 other presentations and networking events. More than 1,000 eating disorder treatment professionals are expected to attend the annual conference. For more information, visit iaedp.com.

According to primary presenter, Jennifer McGurk, RDN, CDN, CEDRD-S, Binge Eating Disorder is under-diagnosed and under-treated. Many people often interchange binge eating with the term emotional eating, not realizing or accepting an eating disorder diagnosis.

Binge Eating Disorder is on the rise, estimated to affect about five percent of the total population. This statistic dramatically increases to 30 percent of individuals seeking weight management interventions.

McGurk’s session will focus on behavioral health interventions and medical nutrition therapy for the treatment of binge eating disorder, while redefining emotional eating as being a positive outlet in a client’s life. The session also will focus on the many subjective definitions of emotional eating, including when emotional eating is truly Binge Eating Disorder that deserves eating disorder treatment. True emotional eating will be presented as a coping skill for healthcare professionals to use with their clients to enhance a client’s life.

The workshop presentation team of McGurk and Elyssa Toomey RDN, RYT will help healthcare professionals better understand best care practices for Binge Eating Disorder that may include some appropriate emotional eating to a client’s life circumstances.

Xtalks Life Science Webinars

This webinar will appeal to individuals working at companies with molecules in late Phase 1 or Phase 2, or in need of advanced dose form for life cycle management purposes.

In 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released updated guidelines on drug development. That same year, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) also took the initiative to implement additional regulations supporting drug development in Europe. Since the release of these guidelines, overlooking factors such as acceptability, excipient considerations and caregiver instructions are no longer an option.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 11am EST (4pm GMT/UK), join Matt Ling, Ph. D., Director of Scientific Services, at Catalent and Rachel Meyers, Pharm D., BCPS, BCPPS, FPPA, Clinical Associate Professor at Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers University and Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist, Saint Barnabas Medical Center for a live webinar where they will discuss:

  • The impact of age-appropriate dose forms for pediatrics
  • Insights into caregiver perspectives
  • A case study on real-world medications and acceptability assessment
  • Solutions that address the challenges of pediatric drug development
  • Factors in excipient decision-making
  • Technologies for creating ideal dose forms

This webinar will appeal to individuals working at companies with molecules in late Phase 1 or Phase 2, or in need of advanced dose form for life cycle management purposes.
