HEMP & CBD CONNEX CONFERENCE- Portland, Oregon

Hemp & CBD Conference

When the farm bill passed in December 2018, there were 500 farmers growing 11,000 acres of hemp. We saw a demand for hemp biomass and smokable flower with a limited supply. Biomass was selling for $35-$45 a pound. Fast forward to 2019: this looked like the “Field of Dreams”. Applications increased to 1,900 farmers registered and over 60,000 acres farming hemp. We estimate that over 50% of the crops failed in 2019 for many reasons: lack of planning, bad genetics, and harvest and drying roadblocks. Mother nature brought record rainfall and a hail storm that damaged over 1,000 acres. With any new industry and no limit to how many acres could be grown, farmers planted too many acres, not realizing the massive undertaking and hurdles they would encounter. In 2019, farmers soon realized this was not the “Field of Dreams” with overproduction and prices plummeting to $5-$15 per pound and finding reputable buyers makes for a challenging year.

The Hemp & CBD Connex Conference is a collaboration of the entire hemp supply chain from seed to harvest to products on the shelf. Invest two days in educating yourself in all aspects of the industry. Here is your chance to have one-on-one contact with the pros that will guide you in best practices for your business. Oregon & Washington Department of Agriculture and the USDA will present updated rules and regulations and offer clarity to the confusing, evolving nature of these regulations. The conference will feature hands-on displays and demonstrations, will address roadblocks and offer solutions for best production and profit. Visit the “Farmers, Processors & Buyers Lounge” to consult on selling your biomass. Learn about crop insurance, farmer co-ops, futures contracts and partnering with processors for splits and toll processing.

With 30+ educational seminars and nearly 60 speakers, the CCC 6.0 Hemp + CBD Connex offers educational sessions, providing up-to-date data on Regional and Federal legislation. We are honored that USDA Under Secretary, Greg Ibach has the Chief of the U.S. Domestic Hemp Production Plan for the USDA, Bill Richmond, joining us to review and provide updates on the Interim Hemp Regulations. Ben Thiel, USDA Risk Management Agency Regional Director, will discuss NEW Hemp Crop insurance as well as Whole Farm Revenue Protection. Regionally, both Oregon and Washington will be providing updates via their Departments’ of Agriculture representatives, Sunny Summers and Steve Howe, and via their cannabis programs with Steve Marks and Rick Garza.

Dr. Jeffrey Steiner from the Oregon State University Global Hemp Innovation Center will touch on Hemp Research. Economic analysts Beau Whitney and Chase Hubbard will discuss issues regarding economic impact and global market hemp supply chain that limited the market in 2019, and what it will take to be successful in the future. Additional topics below will be covered by representatives from the likes of Big Sky Scientific, Canopy Growth, CO2 Dynamics, Empower Bodycare, Lazarus Naturals, Strength of Hope and Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm.

The INDUSTRIAL HEMP SHOWCASE will feature displays of the many industrial uses made from hemp-fiber, including hempcrete, biofuel, livestock feed, paper, rope, bioplastics. The is even discussion about Hemp as a replacement for Kevlar. Hemp offers many different uses that can promote a more sustainable world. Hemp products can be recycled, reused and are 100% biodegradable. Proponents of hemp claim that it can help reduce global warming because it takes out large amounts of carbon dioxide per acre, more than most plants.

The CBD MARKETPLACE, a shop within the expo, will offer a wide variety of hemp and CBD products to review and purchase, from health food products, topicals, transdermal patches, edibles, beverages, pet brands and much more. On January 30th, consumers are invited to try products, meet the producers and consult with medical professionals about the benefits of CBD products.

In this 6th year of the conference, we explore the expansion of the Hemp industry highlighting the vast potential of HEMP and CBD products. We are grateful for the many people who donated their time to help others in this industry, including top pros and regulators sharing their insights. We’re proud to offer this conference at an amazing value compared to other higher-priced events. Oregon is at the forefront of establishing a business model that can be shared with other states. We’re focused on fostering the innovators so they can learn, share and help build the industry. The Hemp & CBD Connex Conference is brought to you by the Cannabis Collaborative Conference.

Las Vegas’ Healor Primary Care Practice Offers Affordable Care

Access to the wholesale pharmacy allows patients to buy noncontrolled medications at cost, a significant reduction in expense for potentially life-saving drugs. Healor offers the discount as a community service that stands as unique in the state.

Healor Primary Care announces the arrival of affordable medical care with economic wellness plans and a wholesale drug pharmacy.

The unique concept offers access to complete medical services for everyone and extends a welcome to anyone who cannot afford to pay traditional fees.

An elite member program allows patients to receive unlimited visits for medical exams and consultation, prescription discounts at cost from the wholesale pharmacy and exceptional professional care.

“We improve patients’ quality of life and life expectancy through comprehensive treatment plans that everyone can afford,” said Dr. Raj Singh, M.D., FACP, FASN. “Our practice offers helping hands to ones who need it the most.”

At Healor, patients can receive the full range of health care services with wellness plans that cost as little as $40 per month. The primary care practice accepts Medicaid.

Access to the wholesale pharmacy allows patients to buy noncontrolled medications at cost, a significant reduction in expense for potentially life-saving drugs. Healor offers the discount as a community service that stands as unique in the state.

An emphasis on approaching each medical issue with curiosity about root causes supports the practice’s focus on wellness and prevention. The Healor philosophy incorporates accessibility and economy that encourages patients to seek medical attention sooner rather than later.

Typical services at Healor include annual checkups, blood and urine tests, X-ray interpretation, screening for dangerous illnesses and management of high blood pressure and diabetes. Patients may also seek treatment from specialists for weight loss, fatigue, male and female sexual health, hair loss, transgender issues and hormone balancing. The practice fills a space that Dr. Singh considered neglected by traditional medical approaches.

The need for weight management motivates the health care professionals at Healor who have concerns about the effects of obesity on patients and its influence on other health issues. The emphasis on wellness helps patients establish a healthy lifestyle that promotes good habits of diet and exercise with medical supervision.

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) point to the need for preventive medicine that forms the basis for treatment at Healor. The condition that affects type 2 diabetes, some forms of cancer, heart disease and stroke occurs in more than 93 million American adults, about 40 percent of the population. As the leading causes that CDC presents as preventable, premature death, the condition may motivate patients to seek therapy through accessible treatment, low-cost medications and exceptional care at Healor.

The practice started in 2017 to offer lower priced services, accurate diagnoses and appointment availability. Dr. Singh practices internal medicine with a focus on wellness and health management, hormonal balance, weight loss and anti-aging therapies. An associate professor at the UNLV School of Medicine and speaker at national and international conferences, Dr. Singh shares his knowledge of wellness and anti-aging best practices.

Surrogacy is Increasingly Accepted as Just One More Way to Grow a Family, says Global Surrogacy Services

All kinds of people are now taking advantage of gestational surrogacy to grow their families.

Families turn to surrogacy for a number of reasons and it’s crucial all involved have the information they need to make an informed decision.

A December 24 article in The Salt Lake Tribune reports on the growing acceptance of surrogacy and the safeguards that are increasingly protecting everyone involved in the process of bringing a new child into the world. Naturally, the parental journey looks different for every family, and the article discusses the importance of careful consideration before entering into the surrogacy process, both for intended parents and potential gestational surrogates. As the article mentions, families turn to surrogacy for a number of reasons and it’s crucial all involved have the information they need to make an informed decision. Global Surrogacy Services says that one of its main goals is to provide intended parents and surrogates all of the necessary information needed to make a truly informed decision.

Global Surrogacy Services states that its team of highly experienced medical and legal professionals covers an extremely wide range of tasks. These include selecting the very best fertility specialists and obstetricians as well as finding the knowledgeable legal professions needed to navigate each aspect of the surrogacy journey appropriately. The firm adds that one of its most important offerings is its highly detailed screening process for women who are interested in becoming surrogates, which includes both physical and psychological screening. To become a surrogate is a life-changing decision and requires a special kind of woman who truly wants to help a family know the joy of parenthood and who is also physically and mentally ready to do so, says the agency.

Intended parents, as well as potential surrogates, will be interested in the basic requirements for a woman to become a surrogate with Global Surrogacy Services. Women should be between the ages of 21 to 38, must have previously given birth without complications, and must currently have a child at home. Naturally, it is also a requirement that the gestational surrogate is a non-smoker with a smoke-free household, has no history of substance abuse and must live in a generally safe and healthy environment. Of course, having a child under any circumstances is no small task and surrogates are compensated for their effort and time, says the agency. It notes that former-surrogates often take advantage of their windfall to make significant improvements in their lives such as going back to school or buying a long-needed family car.

As for intended parents, Global Surrogacy Services says that, while some intended parents try to go it alone, the medical and legal complexities involved with arranging a gestational surrogacy makes that not only a herculean task but one fraught with potential risks. With any task this complicated, it is best to allow professionals who understand the details handling the process. The agency notes that it has helped couples and individuals of all walks of life and orientations enjoy a smooth and fulfilling parental journey.

Best Sanitizers, Inc. Introduces New Versatile Line of Alpet® Peracetic Acid Sanitizers to Help Food Processors Reduce the Risk of Pathogens

Best Sanitizers, Inc. announces their new line of peracetic acid products.

Peracetic acid is an effective and versatile sanitizer and this new Alpet PAA product line is the perfect addition to our current surface sanitizing and cleaning product family.

Best Sanitizers, Inc. announces the release of their new line of peracetic acid products. PAA (peracetic acid) is widely known in the food manufacturing industry as an effective and versatile sanitizer. Depending on the dilution, peracetic acid can be used to sanitize food contact and non-food contact surfaces, but can also be added to brines, washes and ice to slow spoilage and add shelf life to produce, meat, poultry and seafood. Peracetic acid is an ideal antimicrobial agent and is highly effective against a broad range of microorganisms, making for a powerful solution for food processors in the fight against pathogens. This new product line will further compliment Best Sanitizers’ existing product offering of surface cleaning and sanitizing products and provide the right solution for a facility’s specific needs.

A rundown of the product line is as follows:

Alpet® PAA 5.6% is an ideal antimicrobial agent due to its high oxidizing potential. When prepared as directed, Alpet PAA 5.6% is an effective sanitizer for food contact surfaces, conveyers and equipment for meat, poultry, seafood, fruit, nuts and vegetables, and casings, shell or hatching eggs, food prep utensils, tableware, and other items found in a processing facility. Alpet PAA 5.6% is highly effective against a broad range of microorganisms. And with an OMRI certification, it can be used in sanitation of both organic and conventional food and beverage plants. Alpet PAA 5.6% has an NSF listed D2 classification, and is OMRI, Kosher, Pareve and Halal certified.

Maximize the cleaning power of Alpet PAA 5.6% with the foaming additive Perafoam™. Perafoam is a very high foaming concentrate specially designed for use in conjunction with Alpet PAA 5.6%. It is a foam booster additive and has very stable, long-lasting foam characteristics. This thick, shaving cream-like foam clings well to vertical surfaces of equipment, tanks, and drains, and prolongs dwell time. Perafoam contains only food-grade ingredients and if used as a cleaner in conjunction with Alpet PAA 5.6% in accordance with the directions for use, it does not need a rinse prior to start-up when used in conventional food production. A sanitizing rinse is required for all organic production. It can also be used as a general-purpose foam additive for other types of uses, but a potable water rinse on food and beverage processing equipment is required if used with any product other than Alpet PAA 5.6%.

Best Sanitizers’ Alpet® PAA 15% is a more concentrated version of the Alpet PAA 5.6%. It is a broad-spectrum oxidizing biocide and contains 15% peracetic acid and 22% hydrogen peroxide. It is more than an excellent surface sanitizer; when prepared as directed, Alpet PAA 15% can be used as an additive in water that contacts fruits and vegetables. It can be used in water or ice that contacts raw or fresh, post-harvest or further processed fruits and vegetables for the control of spoilage and decay causing bacteria and fungi in commercial operations and packinghouses. This product is safe for discharge to land or for surface irrigation. And with an OMRI certification, it is ideal for use in organic facilities. Alpet PAA 15% is OMRI, Kosher, Pareve and Halal certified.

Alpet® PERA FC 15% is an FDA-approved antimicrobial product specifically formulated for use in ice and water that directly contacts meat, poultry, seafood, fruits and vegetables. When used as directed it will help to reduce contamination and cross-contamination of edible food products. Best Sanitizers’ new Alpet® PERA FC 22% is a concentrate version of Alpet PERA FC 15% developed for use in Federally Inspected meat, poultry, and seafood processing locations. Both products can be applied by spray or using submersion applications. These products help reduce spoilage and improve shelf life in poultry, seafood, ready-to-eat and fruit and vegetable applications. Alpet PERA FC 15% and Alpet PERA FC 22% can be used in washes and brines, water or ice that contacts non-raw fruits and vegetables, water or ice used to commercially prepare or store seafood. Both products are FDA approved and Kosher certified and Pareve.

“Peracetic acid is an effective and versatile sanitizer,” added Ryan Witt, Best Sanitizers’ Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “and this new Alpet PAA product line is the perfect addition to our current surface sanitizing and cleaning product family.”

Best Sanitizers’ new Alpet PAA products come in various SKUs and sizes including jugs, pails, drums and totes. For more information on the new Alpet PAA line or any of our other products, please visit us at http://www.bestsanitizers.com.

USARAD Holdings announces a successful collaboration with Siemens-Healthineers on Artificial Intelligence projects

News Image

It is clear that AI is transforming our industry in a radical way. By leveraging deep learning and artificial intelligence technologies USARAD is well positioned to continue its global leading position.

USARAD Holdings Inc., the leading US Joint Commission Accredited teleradiology and telemedicine company backed by Siemens Healthineers and several healthcare VC firms announces successful collaboration with its partner, Siemens Healthineers. The companies collaborated on the lung nodule detection part of the AI-Rad Companion Chest CT software which assists radiologists in detection of pulmonary nodules. This software was awarded the CE mark in Europe as well as 510k FDA approval and can start to be marketed as a medical product effective immediately.

Dr. Matthias Mitschke coordinated the project and worked together with Dr. Anna Jerebko and her team who oversaw the development of the lung nodule detection software. Anna and Matthias championed this collaboration which involved multiple steps. According to Siemens specifications, USARAD together with MDW developed specialized AI annotation software and radiology workflow for the project. USARAD then leveraged MDW technology to assist in obtaining over 10,000 deidentified computed tomography cases, radiology reports and annotations from its data partners. The image data as well as the clinical reports were carefully anonymized in compliance with HIPAA. Unique heterogeneous acquired CT data was obtained from over 100 imaging centers in multiple states throughout USA. Siemens Healthineers, USARAD and MDW then collaborated to oversee numerous radiologists who provided annotations in multiple phases which included providing input for an FDA submission.

Anna stated, “We are pleased to work together with USARAD on data collection for AI development. It is very important to ‘stress test’ medical imaging and computer aided detection algorithms on as much data as possible with a large variety of different acquisition protocols, scanner models and patient populations to ensure stable performance thus assessing its generalizability and for use in medical practice. The massive amount of chest CT scans were read and annotated by multiple experienced radiologists. In this manner, the performance of the AI algorithm could be benchmarked against the opinions of experts. It is a very common pitfall in AI development when an algorithm is trained and tested on a limited amount of data acquired from a single site possibly with scanner(s) from a single vendor and interpreted by only a few radiologists. This type of evaluation can lead to conclusions on algorithm results that are too optimistic and can manifest in a suboptimal performance in clinical practice. Stress-testing the AI algorithms for chest CT on a massive amount on clinical data has shown a significant improvement compared to existing standard CAD algorithms.”

Previously USARAD and Siemens Healthineers have announced a world-wide distribution partnership with USARAD services to be offered via a global cloud-based sharing and collaboration platform as part of the teamplay digital health platform. This partnership is currently being expanded to include AI collaboration and the integration with teamplay environment is ongoing. USARAD is excited to deploy this solution and other algorithms in its daily practice upon FDA approval. At the same time, USARAD plans to deploy multiple additional algorithms which are not yet FDA approved in research setting using the teamplay environment.

It is anticipated that algorithm’s outputs will become part of reporting to facilitate radiologists’ workflow with an overall anticipated significant improvement of speed and efficiency. USARAD is also excited to continue collaborating with Siemens Healthineers on multiple new AI projects.

“It is clear that AI is transforming our industry in a radical way. By leveraging deep learning and artificial intelligence technologies USARAD is well positioned to continue its global leading position and will accelerate its quest to affordably bring high quality healthcare around the world,” explained Michael Yuz, M.D. MBA, CEO and founder of USARAD Holdings Inc.“ Dr Yuz is considered to be both the leading expert physician and serial entrepreneur in the field of Artificial Intelligence. He has helped develop algorithms as well as has invested into health-related AI platforms since 2005. He added, “Our involvement with AI is quiet strategic, because not only are we able to provide assistance in developing these AI algorithms, but, when they gain required approval status, we are also able to immediately integrate these algorithms into the production, workflows and day-to-day practice.”

The ISA Foundation’s $40,000 grant will help expand IDEA’s farming program, which infuses classrooms with hands-on learning focused on cultivating and eating fresh, locally grown food.
  • Partnership for a Healthier America: Based in Washington, D.C., the nonprofit’s goal is that all children — especially those disproportionately affected — will live healthier lives, growing up to be adults free from obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions. The ISA Foundation’s $50,000 grant will help the group expand its fresh food initiative to uplift the health and well-being of food-insecure children and families nationwide by providing more fresh food in food banks.

“Each grant cycle has brought tremendous nonprofit organizations to our attention, allowing us to partner with people who are as passionate as we are about providing much-needed assistance to communities around the world,” said Isagenix Chief Legal Officer and ISA Foundation Board Member Justin Powell. “We’re honored to help our latest grant recipients fulfill their missions and make a lasting impact.”

Since its inception in 2018, the ISA Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million to nonprofit partners in the United States and Canada that align with the foundation’s focus on healthy nutrition and support for underserved children, wellness education for all, and aid for those affected by natural disasters. To view a list of previous grant recipients, visit the foundation’s impact page.

The foundation will accept its next round of grant applications from U.S.-based nonprofits from March 15 to April 15. Isagenix will announce the recipients in July.

In addition to awarding grants, the ISA Foundation is also giving back through sales of IsaKids® Super Smoothie, a nutritious snack option for kids. For each bag sold, Isagenix donates one meal to a child in need through the foundation. So far, nearly 72,000 meals have been donated, including 7,192 meals from a special “buy one, donate two” promotion during the product’s launch in August.

The foundation is also helping others through volunteer initiatives, including a recent service trip with one of its first grant recipients, SERV International, a Georgia-based nonprofit that uses food as a catalyst to transform lives. An Isagenix employee, eight of the company’s independent distributors, and two SERV employees traveled to Kenya, where they helped pack over 56,000 SERV Food meals, distributed meals in local villages, and visited with children in SERV’s House of Hope orphanage.
