Vinh Duc General Hospital in Vietnam Collaborates with International Medical Relief

The collaboration between Vinh Duc General Hospital and IMR will make healthcare and health education more accessible to underserved communities in the Quang Nam province to reduce health disparities.

IMR has been providing medical relief missions in Vietnam under the authority of the country’s ministry of health since 2016. This partnership with Vinh Duc General Hospital will allow IMR’s medical volunteers to serve a higher level of patient need and treat more complex cases. Surgeries will be able to be performed at the hospital by IMR surgical teams.

“Our partnership showcases a shared commitment to the well-being of communities and the belief that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right,” said King. “Working together, we can create a healthier future for all.”

IMR has been providing healthcare services to disadvantaged and inaccessible populations worldwide since 2002. With a presence in more than 87 countries, the organization brings together medical and nonmedical professionals as volunteers to offer essential medical care and health education to those in need. IMR’s goal of making healthcare accessible aligns with the mission of Vinh Duc General Hospital to serve its community.

“We’re not just providing healthcare,” said King. “We’re building bridges of compassion, understanding, and collaboration.”

NEDHSA, Christal Wheeler Productions seek to inspire region through “Under Construction” stageplay

NEDHSA Executive Director Dr. Monteic A Sizer said the agency “intends to help make Northeast Louisiana a regional creative hub, a preferred destination that will generate much-needed regional economic development, diversity, job creation, and more.”

“We believe there is medicine in creative expression, and the arts can help a person come alive in ways some traditional treatment options can’t,” Dr. Sizer said. “We intend to help create an environment where dreams are realized, families are strong, bodies are healthy, community institutions are thriving, and spirits are renewed.”

Dr. Sizer said the agency is “helping people in our region understand addiction and mental health issues with this innovative prevention approach. We are essentially showing our region the struggles of addiction and mental illness on stage using various creative art forms.”

“We want individuals who are divided racially, politically, economically, and socially to understand that all people have value and potential,” Dr. Sizer said. “This production is designed to show our collective humanity, to challenge us, to sadden us, and to motivate us towards collective action.”

Director Christal Wheeler said the “Under Construction” script focuses on “our individual construction and the factors that build us into the people we become over time.”

“We will explore the roadblocks, detours, and distractions that come in the form of addictions that many may encounter on this road called life,” Wheeler said. “I believe that our audience, whether they have experienced addiction in some form or not, will gain a better understanding of how all distractions can hinder our progress but won’t stop our journey unless we allow it.”

Legacy Nonprofit Hospices St. Francis Reflections and Treasure Coast Hospice Explore Affiliation

Space Coast-based St. Francis Reflections and Treasure Coast-based Treasure Coast Hospice pursue affiliation to improve patient-centric care.

STUART, Fla., Oct. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Space Coast-based St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care and Treasure Coast-based Treasure Coast Hospice announced today that the two organizations are exploring an affiliation. The areas served by the two programs include Brevard, Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties.

St. Francis Reflections was founded in the late 1970s and Treasure Coast Hospice in the early 1980s when hospice care was a volunteer-lead movement searching for better ways to care for people at the end of life. Each program has served its respective communities for more than forty years as a mission-driven, non-profit healthcare organization providing the highest level of quality care to patients, families and the community at large.

“Through an affiliation, our organizations will have the opportunity to achieve a shared goal to provide sustainable palliative and hospice care along with bereavement services for patients and families in the communities that we serve,” said St. Francis Reflections CEO Joseph Killian, CHPCA. “By joining forces, St. Francis Reflections and Treasure Coast Hospice will strengthen our organizations’ ability to expand services and advance care innovation.”

“St. Francis Reflections and Treasure Coast Hospice have the opportunity to dramatically strengthen our combined not-for-profit missions,” said Treasure Coast Hospice CEO Jackie Kendrick, CHPCA. “By working together, our organizations will have the ability to continue to pursue clinical excellence, ensuring that we are prepared to meet the growing needs of our communities.”

Another benefit of affiliation is to improve recruitment and retention of staff during a time of widespread healthcare workforce shortages.

“Our commitment to our employees remains unwavering, and we believe that this affiliation will support continuing education and training and create new opportunities for growth while preserving job security,” continued Kendrick.

St. Francis Reflections and Treasure Coast Hospice leadership teams will continue to work on a comprehensive plan over the coming months with the goal to announce a formal affiliation in early 2024.

St. Francis Reflections and Treasure Coast Hospice employ more than 600 employees, including both clinical and administrative staff. Under the prospective affiliation, each organization will retain its own brand and locations.

St. Francis Reflections serves 3,000 patients annually in Brevard County. It runs two Inpatient Units—one 12-bed unit in Titusville and another 10-bed unit inside Melbourne Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Treasure Coast Hospice cares for 4,000 patients annually in Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties. It offers three Inpatient Units with a total of 32 beds on two campuses located in Stuart in Martin County and Ft. Pierce in St. Lucie County.

About St. Francis Reflections

St. Francis Reflections is Brevard’s longest-serving, and only independent, non-profit hospice and palliative care resource. It was founded 45 years ago to provide extraordinary care for patients and families to help them deal with the greatest medical, emotional and spiritual challenges of their lives. Today, St. Francis Reflections cares for patients in their residences throughout Brevard County, wherever they call home. Its staff and volunteers work with dedication, compassion and great respect for those they serve guided by the mission statement: Uplifting Lives. Uplifting Each Other. Uplifting Our Community.

About Treasure Coast Hospice

Treasure Coast Hospice is a non-profit community organization of skilled professionals and dedicated volunteers whose mission is to provide access to compassionate, caring, expert and professional hospice and grief support services to patients and families at the end of life. Founded in 1982, Treasure Coast Hospice has grown to serve more than 4,000 patients annually in Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties. Assay Platforms for PROTAC in Drug Discovery and Beyond, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

The ubiquitin-mediated destruction of cellular proteins plays a crucial part in many cellular functions by altering the cellular protein concentration. The discovery of specific proteins that are ubiquitylated before degradation in the 1970s led to the 2004 Nobel Prize in chemistry.

Since then, with the catalytically “event-driven” pharmacology, the potency of binding affinity to the target protein is no longer the key aspect of a PROTAC. However, more insights and better assays to help the structure-activity relationship (SAR) for PROTACs are needed.

Register for this webinar to explore in vitro assays for PROTAC and similar applications for molecular glues for targeted protein degradation (TPD).

Join Yuzhou Xu, MS, Senior Director, Biology and Pharmacology, Shanghai ChemPartner, for the live webinar on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11am EDT (4pm BST/UK).

Allergan Aesthetics Pledges Diamond Level Sponsorship for 2023 Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day

“The significance of BRA Day as a symbol of breast reconstruction awareness – and access – has never been more critical,” said Howard Levinson, MD, president of The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF). “ASPS and The PSF are determined to ensure that all patients seeking post-mastectomy care be made aware of their right to coverage and all options available. Partnering with like-minded organizations helps to bolster this ongoing support for breast cancer patients, advocating for their right to make well-informed choices that best serve their needs.”

“At Allergan Aesthetics, we are committed to driving education for patients so that they are empowered to make informed decisions for their personal journey and unique circumstances, and that includes ensuring that breast cancer patients are aware of all their post-mastectomy options such as breast reconstruction,” said Carrie Strom, president, Global Allergan Aesthetics and senior vice president, AbbVie. “We are honored to partner with organizations that share our dedication to supporting the breast cancer community year-round.”

BRA Day brings together ASPS, The PSF, plastic surgeons specializing in breast reconstruction, nurse navigators, corporate partners, breast cancer support groups and organizations to coordinate events this Oct. 18. These events take place across the globe and can include media events, Q&A sessions, lectures, flash mobs, fundraising parties, advertising campaigns, community events and more.

About Breast Reconstruction

Studies show that women who undergo breast reconstruction experience significant improvements in psychological, social and sexual well-being. Every patient deserves to learn about the full complement of breast reconstruction options at the time of diagnosis. In fact, the two main reasons women do not undergo breast reconstruction is that patients are not referred to breast reconstructive surgeons and are not informed of their reconstructive options. Breast reconstruction is part of a comprehensive approach and treatment for breast cancer patients.

Integral to this cohesive team approach, are frequent meetings that occur to discuss each patient and their individualized treatment plan. Members of this group of specialists are breast surgeons, plastic pathologists, reconstructive surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, geneticists, nurses, patient care coordinators and more. Their collective insights guarantee that patients are not only aware of but also have access to a full range of reconstructive procedures, with decisions based on consensus among the team and ultimately the patient.

“Women need choices – they should be presented with the complete range of breast reconstruction options,” said Lynn Damitz, MD, ASPS board vice president of health policy & advocacy. Shared decision-making is the optimal goal where we are all part of the decision.”

For more information on breast reconstruction, visit http://www.breastreconusa.org. Become educated and help educate others about the availability of and access to breast reconstruction and why all women deserve a team approach to breast cancer treatment.
